Reading this brought me back to my Pentecostal roots.

The Scriptures make some remarkable promises about prayer, and the Robesons take those promises about as far as you can take them. They make the argument that since Jesus defeated sin on the cross, Jesus defeated all of the effects of sin for His children. This means His children should not suffer sickness, depression, or mental illness. At first glance, it sounds like the prosperity gospel, but the Robesons are quick to repeatedly denounce any form of greed or materialism. It’s hard to debunk their arguments at face value, but they do seem to treat spiritual warfare like a game where certain inputs get certain outputs. The tone of the book implies that physical victory in this world is guaranteed as long as we have faith and avoid sin. The Bible paints a world that is a lot more complicated than that. But at the same time, it was nice to hear the testimonies that God does indeed do amazing things through prayer.
