Published in Ohio at the brink of the American Civil War, I am curious how well this massive 800 page book was received and also its circulation. The timing suggests political motivation, but the concise content points to a work aimed more towards academia. Additionally I wonder how much of an impact it had on inflaming the anti slavery movement in comparison with Harriet Beecher Stowe's 'Uncle Tom's Cabin'?
