This book offers guidance from the Bahá'í Writings for all those of any age who are interested in developing a good marriage, based on the assumption that marital success depends on the moral and spiritual qualities of both partners. The book includes two sections. The first, “Preparation for Marriage” contains the • A New Approach to Marriage • The Spiritual Foundation for Marriage • Becoming Acquainted with One Another’s Character • Developing Spiritual Qualities • Chastity • Laws which Govern Bahá’í Marriage The second section, titled “Once Married”, includes chapters • Married Life • Tests • Spiritualizing Your Marriage • Efforts to Avoid Divorce The book finishes with a chapter on “The Importance of Obeying Bahá’u’lláh’s Laws, and also includes the Marriage Table and A Questionnaire for Greater Self-Knowledge. Although you can read either of the sections separately, both singles and married couples comment that they find it useful to read the whole book. It gives singles an idea of what to expect after marriage, and married couples profit from deepening on the qualities that contribute to an enduring union. All agree that is is an exceedingly practical guide.

Joan Barstow Hernandez is a world citizen. She was born and grew up in the United States. She became a Baha’i during college, and immediately after graduating, moved to Guatemala as a Bahá'í pioneer. After 19 years in Guatemala, she moved to Bolivia in 1990, where she began her work with Nur University.

She is best known for her work on Moral /Transformative Leadership. The Spanish edition of the book Moral Leadership is in its 4th edition and has been used in educational programs throughout Latin America.
The English version, titled Transformative Leadership: Developing the Hidden Dimension, was published in 2014.

Ms. Hernandez is the author or co-author of more than twenty books related to leadership, education, family life, socio-economic development, and the Baha’i Faith. Her books in English can be found at http://www.amazon.com/-/e/B009CCSLA8

Very different view on dating and courtship than the society is accustomed to, but very interesting.
