Some things are beyond the comprehension of human mind. What we think is real can be a phantom of this strange world. Eyes can be deceiving and emotions can be misleading. What if reality was a carefully crafted illusion and every truth we thought we knew was a mirage? "Twisted Tales And Turns" is going to be a different perspective altogether with its strange, uncanny stories separated in different groups and topics. Just when you think you have it figured out, the unexpected will leap at you from a page, leaving you stunned and breathless.

"Twisted Tales And Turns" is an anthology collection of twenty stories that will surprise you with their unanticipated endings. This is a unique book in which we can explore this world from some unconventional perspectives. From unimaginable supernatural occurrences to futuristic plots, one story after another, I was shocked with the endings. They take bends at the end without warning that you get compelled to feel awe and wonder. The book is divided into four groups of stories. My personal favourite was the first two groups.

Coming to the writing style, writing is very seamless. The amazing quality of writing is what made this book stand out. It's a quite fast paced book, can be read in one go. Recommended to everyone especially beginners because of it's engaging storylines.

Short story writing is an intricate art that demands brevity, precision, and the ability to convey depth in a limited space. Crafting compelling short stories is undoubtedly challenging, but creating exceptional ones that resonate with readers on multiple levels is an even more formidable task. However, "Twisted Tales and Turns" defies the odds and makes the craft appear deceptively effortless. Each story within the anthology is a testament to the author's mastery, effortlessly weaving together captivating plots, well-developed characters, and thought-provoking themes. The seamless flow of narratives and the seamless interplay of emotions in these stories make it seem as if the author effortlessly conjured them from thin air. In truth, the apparent ease with which this collection delivers powerful storytelling is a testament to the author's exceptional talent and skill, proving that the ability to create extraordinary short stories is indeed a mark of a true literary artist.

"Twisted Tales and Turns" is an enthralling collection of short stories that takes readers on a captivating journey through a diverse range of emotions and experiences. Divided into four distinct sections, the book delves into a myriad of themes, showcasing the author's prowess in storytelling and her ability to evoke a plethora of emotions in readers. From heartwarming tales of love, acceptance, and self-discovery to suspenseful narratives filled with unexpected twists, each story in the book leaves a lasting impression.

"Out of this World," the captivating opening section of the anthology, sets the stage for an enthralling journey into the realms of the extraordinary. The section commences with the intriguing short story, "The Figure in the Charpoy." As the protagonist delves deeper into this mysterious phenomenon, the boundaries between reality and the supernatural blur, culminating in a spine-chilling climax that lingers in the mind long after the story ends. With each turn of the page, the sense of eerie fascination intensifies, leaving readers on the edge of their seats. This opening story serves as a perfect introduction to the anthology, inviting readers to embrace the unexpected and venture into the unknown as they prepare to embark on a literary odyssey like no other. Another story in this section is "Top of the World" which takes center stage, painting a poignant portrait of a young girl awaiting her soldier father's return from a distant war. Amidst the raging elements of nature, the story captures the enduring love between a father and his daughter, leaving readers emotionally moved. The narrative explores themes of loss and hope, immersing readers in the resilience of a child's heart and the impact of war on families.

The second section, "Not Too Far into the Future," presents a captivating collection of futuristic short stories that delve into the realms of science, technology, and human nature. The story, "Throwback to History," introduces us to a talented writer, Maneka, and her husband, Mayank, who grapples to understand and appreciate her literary aspirations. The narrative explores the societal challenges faced by women pursuing their passions in the twenty-third century and how history and fiction from earlier eras still resonate with the present. Another story from this section, "Guided Missiles, Misguided Men," delves into the realm of high-stakes military operations and international intrigue. A top-secret missile test takes an unexpected turn when a mysterious UFO interferes, leading to unforeseen consequences and raising questions about the nature of global conflicts and hidden powers beyond Earth. As these thought-provoking tales unfold, readers are invited to ponder the complexities of human choices, the impact of advanced technology, and the potential consequences of our actions in the near future. The section "Not Too Far into the Future" captivates with its imaginative storytelling, leaving readers both thrilled and introspective about the course humanity might take in the years to come.

In the third section titled "All Doesn’t End Well," we encounter different stories with contrasting emotions. The story, "The Mask of Pretence," follows Sanya, a driven and ambitious woman about to make a significant presentation for her firm. However, as she faces her competitor, Karan, from her past, memories of love and heartbreak resurface, causing her to reflect on the sacrifices she made for her career. In another story, "The Perfect Abode," we meet Suhasi, who moves into her dream home with her family. Despite the idyllic surroundings and efforts to create the perfect space for her daughter, Sonali, tragedy strikes as Sonali falls ill during the pandemic and eventually passes away. Suhasi's dream home turns into a haunting reminder of her profound loss. This section illustrate the unpredictability of life and how it can be fraught with emotional challenges.

In the fourth and final section titled "Love Comes in All Hues," the stories delve into themes of self-discovery, acceptance, and the various forms that love can take. In "The Consent," the protagonist, despite being hesitant at first, gradually embraces the love and care offered by her father's new partner, ultimately finding a sense of belonging and acceptance within their family. The story beautifully portrays the power of love in bridging gaps and forming strong connections. On the other hand, "A Matter of Her Identity" follows a woman who has undergone a significant life-changing transformation. She awakens from a pleasant dream to find herself finally at peace with her own identity. The story revolves around her acceptance of her true self as a woman and her liberation from the constraints of societal expectations and gender norms. It explores the profound impact self-discovery can have on one's life, leading to a newfound sense of confidence, contentment, and self-love.

Having read and enjoyed Smita Das Jain's previous two works "A Price to Love" and "A Slice Of Life," diving into her latest book, "Twisted Tales and Turns," was an absolute delight. Once again, Smita's storytelling prowess shines through as she effortlessly weaves an array of emotions and themes into her narratives. Her ability to delve deep into the human psyche and explore the intricacies of relationships is truly commendable. With each story, she takes us on a rollercoaster ride of emotions, leaving us guessing until the very end with her masterful plot twists. "Twisted Tales and Turns" not only showcases the author's growth as a writer but also reaffirms her talent for crafting compelling and relatable characters that stay with readers long after the final page.

With its unique blend of genres and thought-provoking plots, "Twisted Tales and Turns" offers a compelling and unforgettable reading experience that will keep audiences engaged from the first page to the last. The skillful storytelling and well-crafted characters allow readers to immerse themselves in different worlds, exploring themes of human relationships, personal growth, and the complexities of life. I highly recommend "Twisted Tales and Turns" to anyone looking for a compelling, immersive, and emotionally resonant reading experience.

Smita Das Jain's Twisted Tales and Turns is a brilliant short story collection that will keep you hooked from start to finish. With 20 mind-bending tales spanning genres from the paranormal to futuristic sci-fi, there is something for every lover of the short story form. The themes of fate, destiny, and sacrifice are explored throughout the anthology. Many of the most memorable stories rely on plot twists and surprises at the end.

The collection kicks off with "The Figure in the Charpoy", a paranormal tale of an unlikely bond that forms between a grandfather and his sceptical grandson. As grandfather shares tales of his intimidating military past, grandson Ujjwal can't see him as the terrifying figure he once was. But a shocking twist leaves Ujjwal's mother startled, highlighting themes of familial bonding.

Several stories take readers into the future and tackle themes of technology, societal change, and humanity's place in an increasingly mechanized world. In "Not Too Far into the Future", we are immersed in a world of military secrets and hypersonic missile tests. An unexpected UFO sighting causes Prachand, India's hypersonic missile, to dramatically deviate from its intended trajectory, ultimately crashing into the Atlantic Ocean. These stories serve as warnings about relying too heavily on technology at the expense of human connection.

Smita Das Jain's writing style is crisp and minimalist, keeping the focus squarely on her intriguing plot twists and complex characters. Many stories leave the reader with more questions than answers, reflecting the mysterious and open-ended nature of human experience.

Overall, this is a rich and varied collection that showcases Smita Das Jain's talent for spinning captivating yarn. Readers who enjoy short stories that examine the unexpectedness of life's twists and turns will find much to love in Twisted Tales and Turns. This is a collection I'd highly recommend to fans of the short story form looking for something surprising, poignant, and downright weird.

Hi folks,

Life is nothing without twists and turns. While some takes us by surprise, some definitely change our perceptions and lives.

Twisted Tales & Turns by @smitadjain is a compilation of 20 short stories, which are categorised under 4 subtitles - Out of this world, Not far into the future, Love doesn’t end well & Love comes in all hues.

Every story has a twist and turn that come when you least expect it and leave a lasting impact on the lives of characters. The author has weaved stories with various themes ranging from supernatural, fantasy, dystopian, relationships, aliens, etc.

What I liked about the book is the author’s vivid imagination in weaving futuristic stories with AI in our lives. Few of the stories emotionally connected with me as it was written exceptionally well. Stories like Purchased Love, The Mask of Pretence, Kaleidoscope, The Consent were my favorite of the lot. The writing is fast paced, with gripping narratives and most of the stories have a lasting impact.

There were also few stories that I felt disassociated with, however it depends upon the reader’s preference. So, if you are looking for a short read that can keep you engaged, I urge you to read this book.

This book scored a 3.7/5 for me.

QOTD: Do you enjoy reading books with twists and turns? If yes, do you guess it even before you get into that part?

Review :
This is my second book by the author and while the first book was fiction and I really enjoyed it, this book is a collection of short stories and I like it more.

The book has been divided into four parts and each has five short stories in it. And what makes them unique is each carries various genres and topics. From supernatural tales to futuristic stories, to relatable life stories and bittersweet endings to showcasing different definitions of love.

Even though each story is short, the author did not fail to portray intricate details of human emotions. This is truly an emotional rollercoaster read. And every story perfectly portrays the lines - "What if reality was a carefully crafted illusion, and every truth you thought you knew was a mirage?"

A good collection of short stories if you're in the mood to read some, definitely recommend this one.

'Twisted tales and turns : A journey through the unexpected' by Smita Jain is a really enthralling read. It is basically a short story collection but with a twist to it.
The book is divided into four parts and each part contains a collection of stories relating to the title of the part. The parts are namely, 'Out of this world' , 'Not too far into the future' , ' All doesn't end well' and 'Love comes in all hues'.
Each section has a set of stories that dwell into love, relationship, UFOs, lost love, women and their fight for equality, quest for self love and discovery, pandemic, career and the sacrifices it asks of us, memories of lost people etc.
Some of my favourite stories include ' A matter of her identity' and 'Throwback into history '. These really made me question some of my pre conceived notions of society.
The way the stories are told is really engaging. Just when we think that we have the story figures out, a twist suddenly comes up, making this read an absolute page turner. The short stories cover a myriad of emotions and topics making it available for a wide range of audience. The different themes also makes us connect to various emotions as we deem fit.
The word building is really beautiful. The cover is really pretty and the title suits the stories written within the pages of this book.
A really good short story collection.

This book is a treasure trove of 20 captivating short stories, each artfully exploring different facets of life. Divided into 4 distinct themes, the stories offer a diverse range of emotions - from mystery to sadness, from fear to happiness. What struck me most was the consistency of each story with its designated theme; it added a layer of coherence to the collection.

The title 'Twisted Tales and Turns' is an apt descriptor, as every story is a rollercoaster of unexpected twists.

The author adeptly addresses societal concerns like gender bias through her stories, offering a contrasting view of a father's love for his daughter amidst the backdrop of female infanticide.

One story that particularly resonated with me was "Top of the World," which beautifully depicted the profound love between a child and her father. Although some endings seemed predictable to me due to their relatability to previously read tales, newcomers to the genre will likely enjoy these engaging short stories.

The journey begins with 'Out of this World,' a section that challenges the boundaries of reality and introduces readers to the enigmatic. 'The Figure in the Charpoy' sets a haunting tone, blurring the lines between the supernatural and the mundane. This sets the stage for the anthology's remarkable exploration of the unknown.

As the book progresses into 'Not Too Far into the Future,' the narrative transforms into a futuristic tapestry of tales that delve into the intersection of technology and humanity. Stories like 'Throwback to History' and 'Guided Missiles, Misguided Men' offer imaginative visions of the future, where the consequences of our present actions are played out in the most unexpected ways.

In the third section, 'All Doesn't End Well,' Jain delves into the complexities of human emotions, crafting narratives that resonate with readers on a deeply emotional level. 'The Mask of Pretence' and 'The Perfect Abode' navigate the highs and lows of life, reminding us that happiness and sorrow are intertwined.

The anthology's final section, 'Love Comes in All Hues,' beautifully encapsulates the myriad forms love can take. 'The Consent' and 'A Matter of Her Identity' challenge societal norms and explore the transformative power of self-discovery and acceptance.

The one who selects this book will never regret reading it.

Twisted Tales and Turns: A Journey Through the Unexpected by Smita Das Jain is a collection of fictions comprising of 20 different short stories which were published or shortlisted for different competitions.

The book is divided into 4 parts, which are titled- Out of the World, Not Too Far Into the Future, All Doesn't End Well and Love Comes in all Hues.

I've got mixed feelings about the book, more like with the stories. I feel that some hit the spot and some of the stories were just a tad bit too cliche and lacked something.

My favourite section was the All Doesn't End Well. Every story hit right on spot and made me feel a nostalgic longing that I don't have the words to explain.

From the first part, the very first story is a sentimental favourite as it mentions Ara, and the grandparent is a central character in the story. It's a sentimental favourite because I relate with the kid in the story. I absolutely loved that one. But the one that actually had me stunned with its brilliant narration was "Top of The World".

Another story that I enjoyed very much was from the section "Love Comes in All Hues" titled "Purchased Love" which follows the birth of a girl child in an Odiya family. When in 10th standard, there was a chapter in our science book titled Reproduction where it was elucidated on how the gender of the baby is determined through the genes and it always ended with the line "The sex of the baby is determined by the gene contributed by the father". And there always was this question which started with how the mother is blamed for the birth of a girl child and we were asked to explain how that was wrong scientifically. Well reading the story Purchased Love reminded me of that snippet from the science textbook. Now the science didn't solve things here, but the money did hence the title. I enjoyed the idea behind the plot very much.

In the end, I would say that it how the reader likes the book depends on how much the reader has read previously. As a regular reader, a lot of the plot ideas are very common from the book, and it wasn't very fresh. Some stories were great with a very nice message, I enjoyed those. All in all, it was a hit or miss for me, some hit, others didn't.

Will recommend it to those who want to read a short book with short stories.

Mann mein hai koi hamare
Yaa dil dhadak raha hai
Ik aas k sahare

Twisted Tales and Turns by Smita Das Jain is a collection of many short stories previously published on various platforms. The author played around different genres to bring out this collection that has supernatural twists to bits of science- all at one place. The book is divided into 4 parts and it's a quick read for the readers.

Talking about what I liked about the book is the unexpected twists and turns filled in the 1st part of the book. The stories were inclined towards the supernatural world and some were really heart touching. Especially little Sumeli and her father were such a sweet duo- every kid might want to have what these two had! The stories have touched on various recent events of our lives and with creativity the author tried to give these a new point of view. Addition of covid, war machines etc was truly a nice try for the author to bring new things on plate. Overall there are few really good stories that show hope, humanity and more!

Now coming to the cons, I felt some parts of the book became very predictable at times. I liked the 1st segment of the book more than the other 3 yet I felt that every story there was woven with the same thread. All turned out to be the same kind of story with different characters. I was disappointed because of this. Coming to the other parts, the 2nd segment felt a little boring to me. The covid and alien plot didn't make any sense to me even if I try to take it as a fiction or creativity. I honestly started to lose interest from here. Few stories were based on self realisation, ambition etc but they were very ordinary. The title says twisted tales and turns- but the only twist I found in the whole book was someone's death!

Overall this book gave me mixed feelings! The cover made me grab the book but after finishing it I felt it wasn't as exciting as I expected it to be. I didn't find any errors in the book and the language was simple to understand. I will recommend this book to people looking for short stories with various tastes in one place. This book is suitable for readers of the 12+ age group and above.

“The twist is a testament to the power of the human spirit and the resilience of the human soul that endures beyond this world.”

- Smita Das Jain, Twisted Tales and Turns

The cover with crimson red colour and golden typography with a woman receding in the background creates intrigue in the minds of readers.

Smita Das Jain has thoughtfully crafted these stories as a homage to the stalwarts of fine arts, the intent of which did translate. But the plot went stale as it was bereft of logic in some places and the dialogues didn't draw the reader to the story.

Some tales did manage to hold my attention and create a lingering effect.

It Starts with Us, a poignant story centred around ‘The Black Lives Matter movement, embellished by the song of the same name established the purpose. This character-driven story through its state of unpredictability, managed to stir emotions within me though the setting was ambiguous. The tale is a celebration of the innate spirit of creation that emerges victorious across interracial lines.

For a Better World was a revelation in terms of the theme. The writing style deftly swerves us to a pressing matter such as the repercussions of war on human life, and how people will find solace in mobile homes and communicate with each other through digital avatars in the future.

Twisted Tales & Turns comprise of fiction pieces that are delectable servings of unseen fractions of life. The tales that are reflective of underrepresented communities work as carriers of knowledge and act in favour of this anthology otherwise riddled with errors.

The mini-stories spanning a couple of pages make one ponder over the conditioning of human beings, the fragility of life during the Covid-19 pandemic and the role of love in guiding us during strenuous times.

"Twisted Tales and Turns" is an impressive collection of twenty short stories, divided into four sections, that delve perfectly into the unpredictableness of life through these tales. Self-acceptance and discovery, with suspenseful and heartwarming endings, give the book the ability to showcase different subjects and emotions precisely.

"The Figure in the Charpoy," a story from the first section, captured my heart with its brilliant narration and engaging storytelling. The story may feel familiar as it reminds many of brilliant pieces of literature. However, what makes this one unique is its sheerly brilliant twist in the ending, which will leave you in thought and leave an impact.

The second section of the book speeds up the pace in a good way. My favorite story from this section is "Guided Missiles, Misguided Men." This story truly deserves a proper book of its own, complete with vivid details and explorations. The way the author relates extraterrestrial beings with the pandemic and the scientific world gives a scintillating Hollywood Sci-fi feel.

The third and fourth sections come with decent, heartwarming, and thought-provoking tales. I loved the characters of the first two sections of the above-mentioned favorite story from both sections.

Overall, the author brilliantly ignites her imagination in the first two sections and provides familiar vibes with an indigenous touch in the stories. The language and character building are tremendous. Here are my three favorite quotes from the book:

"On the Earth inhabited by living beings but dominated by human beings."

The only thing I felt is that one or two stories could be shorter; they were a little bit dragged, and a few stories that have the potential didn't get enough words. Even with this minor flaw, the author managed to deliver a brilliant story collection that will be loved by first-time, intermediate, young, and teen readers. 🙌

⏩ Tell me your August reads.

🪞 Twisted Tales and Turns by Smita Das Jain is a collection of short stories focusing on various plots with spine-tingling endings.

🪞 First of all, I love the cover; it gives me beautiful red, vintage painting vibes—so endearing!

🪞 Now, talking about the tales in the book, they are exactly like the name of the book, with spine-chilling twists and realistic turns.

🪞 The book is divided into four sections, including short stories in these categories.

🪞 My favourite section will be Out Of This World. All of them include a little element of the supernatural and a shocking ending.

🪞 "Masterpiece" was definitely my favourite story from the section; it was so gripping yet impactful in haunting ways.

🪞 Some of the stories seem a little bit confusing or boring, but the plot is the real deal here.

🪞 The writing was so lucid and flowing, like you were watching it in front of your eyes, especially in the chapter with the metaverse world.

🪞 I was in awe when the writer used different emotions in these tales; some of them are haunting, while others will make you emotional.

🪞 We are all aware of COVID-19's dangerous tragedy; I applaud the author for penned out stories about that tragedy. While we are thankful to survive, some people lose their entire world because of this.

🪞 Some lose their children, some lose their parents, and some lose their job.

🪞 While some of these stories give you something thought-provoking to look at and think about,

🪞 These stories seem normal, like any other story going in a stable flow, but readers cannot even think about the shocking truths lurking beneath or at the end of these stories.

🪞 It creates an atmosphere of suspense around you that will grip you.

🪞 Overall gripping, thoughtful, and suspenseful ride to a different world.

Smita Das Jain's "Twisted Tales and Turns: A Journey Through the Unexpected" is a collection of twenty amazing short stories. Each tale stands out in its uniqueness, taking readers on a different journey each time .

There are moments in the book that force characters to confront their deepest fears and desires, leading to transformative and unexpected outcomes. The narrative twists are remarkable, challenging preconceived notions and guiding towards different aspects of life.

One particular story, "Masterpiece," left a lasting impression on me, but honestly, every story within this collection is a masterpiece in its own right. The author skillfully crafts each narrative to deliver surprises that keep readers on the edge of their seats.

What I liked in this book is its exploration of the human spirit's strength and the resilience of the soul that extends beyond the boundaries of our world. Whether it's a sudden change of heart, a realization of a mistaken path,a shocking revolution, love of a daughter or desire of an artist, every twist showcases the depth and complexity of the human experience.

To sum up , "Twisted Tales and Turns" is an enthralling journey through the unexpected, leaving readers in awe. This collection is a must-read for anyone seeking different and emotionally charged stories that resonate long after the final page.

It is easy to write a novel but to brings the plot forth within a short span of time and in limited words is a challenge. Smita Das Jain has mastered the craft and with her new short story collection, Twisted Tales and Turns has opened a new world of imagination for the readers.
My review
Smita Das Jain is an author who knows how to make the readers emote and connect with the characters' emotions. The stories that she has shared were either published in magazines like Story mirror or winning pieces of writing competitions.
Every story has an emotion that predominantly connects the reader with. Another classic trait of the author is the twist in the end. As the title prescribes the Twisted Tales and Turns would leave us thinking and being haunted with the feelings left behind by the characters.
Being a part of a short story, the characters weren't dispensed the time to evolve but the author deftly maneuvered the character traits with her fitness of craft.
Other wordly
The dystopian story like guided missiles, misguided men, is a futuristic yet introspective account how the humanity and its existence could be at stake due to actions of men. We could see a responsible writer there when there is fantasy that could be reality in future.
The after death experiences of the book are at a metaphysical level rather than a story of ghost or horror or anything explicitly depicted.
Overall the book is the best from the author so far. Can't wait to read more from her.

The book contains a collection of mind-blowing short stories. At first I thought this was a mystery book because of the title but it turned out to be a horror book which was amazing for me because I love reading horror books. The cover is very discreet and gives very little hints about the mind blowing stories this book contains.

The first story was about a kid who's grandma recently passed away and his grandfather was supposed to share a room with him in his house. So, he was kind of annoyed. Later some really creepy things happen in the story. The second story was about an army man and his daughter. This story has an unexpected twist and I was legit shocked by the ending. Now, let's talk about my favourite story "The Masterpiece" . This story is about an artist who is suppose to paint his masterpiece. So, for that he goes to stay in a homestay at a hilly region. Soon the peace in his life is disturbed by a painting that is hung on the wall of his room. This story was really very scary and I had goosebumps after reading it. The rest of the stories were also very good and gives a spooky vibe.

I genuinely enjoyed reading this book. The stories are small but they carry minute details which makes them more interesting to read. Whenever I decided to read just one story I ended up reading 4-5 at one go. This book is really addictive and un-putdownable. I recommend this book to all the horror genre fans and to all those beginners who would like to try the horror genre. This book has a really good potential and will make the readers invested in the horror genre.

RATING - ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Smita Das Jain has presented the book Twisted Tales and Turns as a collection of 20 short stories packed with supernatural elements and surprising twists.

The book is sectioned into 4 parts, delving into themes like love, artistic dilemmas, life after the pandemic, and sci-fi. The author has also included contemporary matters like Racial Segregation (BLM) , Gender Identity, and Artificial Intelligence. Most of the short stories presented in the book have received numerous awards.

The title of the book is appropriate considering the unexpected turn of events, which keeps the reader engrossed into the plot. Moreover, the language of the book is lucid, and we come across rich vocabulary that hints at the author's lexical repertoire.

Among my favourite chapters Include :
📃Top of the World
📃Mask of Pretence
📃Purchased Love
📃Consent

I was dewy-eyed during the climax of "Top of the World.", The author took me by awe with the plot twist, as I was expecting the cliche ending. Sanya and Sarpanch were some of my favourite characters. The Chapter 'Consent 'humbled me. However, I couldn't keep up with the sci-fi lingo and found the second section a little boring.

Overall, this is a perfect copy to indulge in if you are into mystery thrillers or even as a travel companion.

A book that is as interesting as it’s title! Divided into four parts, each comprising of five short stories, this book is a masterpiece! All the stories here are award-winning tales of surprise and emotions.

The book is divided into four parts - out of this world, not too far into the future, all doesn’t end well and love comes in all hues. My most favourite story is from the second part, titled ‘Top of the World’ which is a heartbreaking as well as heartwarming story of a girl and her soldier father.

Every story starts normally, and as you are getting used to it’s background, there’s a sudden twist that sends chills down your spine. Based on a variety of themes like science, love, history, family, this collection of stories is captivating at it’s best! A must read for all short story lovers!

Multiple short stories to suit every taste

Twisted Tales and Turns is a compilation of over 20 short stories. These stories are divided into 4 sections-- Out of this World, Not Far Into Future, Love Doesn't End Well, and Love Comes in All Hues.

Each section deals with varied plots that talk about our lives, a life that takes twists and Turns at the most unexpected instances. Sometimes these incidents leave a heavy impact on our minds and souls.

Stories that I loved the most were It Starts With Us, Kaleidoscope, My Knight in White, The Wedding Dance, and A Matter of Her Identity. Apart from the precise plots with unexpected turns, I also like how author tried compiling stories with AI concept in mind, keeping up with the trend. I did a bit of an issue with those chapters as it was a fairly new concept for me with null knowledge.

Overall, if you're just starting as a short story reader, I'll suggest this book to you for it'll get insights into multiple topics.

My rating: 3.5🌟

Synopsis:

The book is an anthology of tales which have been smartly crafted and spun. The book is divided into categories like supernatural, sci-fi, and stories with not so happy yet satisfying endings.

Review:

Overall the book was gripping and served it's purpose as the title suggests having twists and turns. It highlights complex vocabulary as its core.

The author knew what she was doing with the supernatural genre as the stories were interesting and satisfying. All the supernatural stories had their own charms and were hurtful yet heartwarming.

The sci-fi genre on the other had was very out there. The ideas were fresh but were lacking in terms of execution. Few of the stories like Kaleidoscope were even insensitive.

To summarise, even though the ideas were there, the stories needed another fresh set of eyes. There were few grammatical errors as well, which are hard to ignore when read along with the extravagant vocabulary.

This book is a collection of 20 well-written short stories - some mysterious, some sad, some scary and some happy - divided across 4 themes or categories. Each story was fitting for the category it was under. I liked how the book was consistent in that aspect.
.
Each short story as you can already guess from the book title has an unexpected twist or maybe turn. The writing is captivating and through it's various stories it takes the readers on a journey of many emotions.
.
The storytelling in the book was good because although many stories were predictable for me I still enjoyed reading the narrative. It's a quick and easy read due to it's simple language and compelling storytelling. I'm really glad to see the author weaving stories about various world issue from the past as well as future.
.
Glad I read this and now I'm eager to read the other books by the author. If you want something to get out of a reading slump this is the right book for it.

The book 'Twisted Tales and Turns ' by Smita Das Jain can be described as a unique attempt to modernise writing. This book contains a collection of short stories divided into four sections. Each story gives us a glimpse of twist in its narrative. The author has successfully experimented to keep the book updated to the era which it belongs to.The theme based writing, the addition of supernatural elements, psychological elements etc gives an extra beauty to the whole book. The inclusion of modern era application like augmented reality and Chat-gpt keeps the book's impact to next level. A first time reader has a lot to take from the book as we read.
The stories explores the concept of unpredictablity of life. The unstable situations that one has to encounter is discussed. The lack of predictability often leads to negative dead ends but sometimes it leads our souls to the most beautiful way of life. This idea resonates throughout the book.
'Top of the world' was one of my favorite story the usage of father's shoulders as the top of the world itself was mindblowing. The unfulfilled desire of a child to be with her father still aches in my heart.
Discussing about another story 'Masterpiece 'is an absolute showstealer with it's supernatural contents. The dark fears, solitude, art everything is well presented in the story.

The relationships are emotionally sketched across the stories. The story 'For a better world' gave me a shiver in my mind as I imagined having a robotic boyfriend. Well future stands as unpredictable as hell that we can't assure what technological updations may come next. The stories also reflect male perspectives upon women, the way they are expected to show up.

I connected to the book in different intervals. While some stories stirred something in me others made me move to the next one quick. My favourites are Top of the World, Till We Meet Again,Kaleidoscope, My Knight in White and Purchased Love. I wish there was a trigger warning for the first part of the book. Yes, the author has mentioned in her note that this book is going to have some unexpected twists and turns but one never knows what can trigger a reader. I had to keep the book aside for days to be able to read after that part. I also felt that my connection with the book as a reader wavered at different places in the book. I also wished for some stories to be longer.

The book will leave you satisfied and with a smile.
