"'It Started With a Kiss' is everything we’ve come to expect from bestselling author, Lindy Dale. You’ll want to clear your calendar, grab a cuppa, and curl up with this little gem, which comes complete with romance, laughter…and a smear of dog pooh!" - Lee Murray.
Lindy began writing at University but never really wanted to be 'an author'. She wanted to be a Princess or at worst a Kindergarten teacher. Her first novel, Heart of Glass, was penned in 2007 and since then she become known for writing funny, forthright romantic fiction with a cast of crazy, comic characters. Lindy is also well-known for her short, romantic novellas which have repeatedly topped the short stories charts in the US and UK. She gains most of her inspiration from her dreams, listening to music and watching ridiculous amounts of reality TV.
In 2012, Lindy was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and, never one to let a chance escape, she used the hospital visits to write Storm in a B Cup, which features the fictional character Sophie, whose medical experiences mirror the author's own journey. Sophie however, ends up with her hot plastic surgeon. Lindy is still very much married to her gorgeous husband of twenty-six years. Storm in a B Cup went on to reach #1 in Medical Fiction, #1 in Breast Cancer Fiction, #1 in Genre Fiction on Amazon US and #4 on iBooks AU.
*found this book for free on Kindle app* I read the blurb, and because it was a short story I couldn't resist reading it. It was a quick and entertaining read. I really enjoyed the story and the main characters were very easy to like. The present story and the glimpses of their past were very well woven. The ending was very sweet and I couldn't help but want more.
This was a very sweet little read. I loved the way the story was told and thought the memories were fantastic. They really let you feel for Georgie and wonder where and why it had all gone wrong.
This is the perfect read for a rainy day to cheer you up and make you smile. It certainly made me smile.
Georgie & Nate where childhood sweethearts. This is their story of first love. I enjoyed how it jumped back and forth through time to explain what was happening. This is definetly a lovely short read. Received in return for an honest review.
It started with a Kiss was a good book. For me, I stuggle when the author is from another part of the world than I. Sometimes the dialect barrier gets to me and I can't really get "into" the book as much as others. This book had a consistently good story. I like how it flashed back to their times as teenagers and to the current day. It was a good quick read.
I picked this book because it is a short book. I would recommend it to anyone. Once I read it I wished it would of been a full length novel. A good story line.
I was given this book as an ARC for an honest review. I gave this book 5 stars.
This is a very short book only 66 pages. I am usually not a short book kinda person, I like to have tons of details and I like my books to be on the longer side. That being said, this is definitely a great read. I just finished two books back to back that literally tore out my heart. And I was looking for something light and sweet, and just plain amazing. And I found it. This book is full of very detailed memories and things that are happening in the now, the Author did a spectacular job of giving the details that we needed to enjoy this story.
This is Georgie and Nate's story. Georgie is jogging in the park when a few things happen to her, which I found to be quite funny. And then all of a sudden who jogs up next to her? Nate her first love who she has not seen in 12 years. It brings back all the memories that they have shared since they were 8 years old, when they first met over him telling her how he missed school because he had the chicken pox and then they started to show each other their scars it was just too cute, from that point on the duo were inseparable, they did everything together. They were best friends. Up until they were 17 years old they never parted. Now in the future when they sit and have coffee and reminisce about old times, is it going to be closure for both of them that they have needed all these years? Or is it going to be the start of something that never should have ended?
This book was so adorable, it was a sweet and loving short read. I was surprised how fast I fell in love with the two characters and how i was routing for them to be together, this book took place in the present and the past, it showed the sweet things that happened between them when they were younger. And it showed why they were not together now.
One of my favorite parts was when Nate tried to explain to the 8 year old Georgie why they should be married. It was a priceless moment. And when I wasn't laughing at those two, I had the biggest smile on my face. They are truly Soul Mates. I cannot recommend this book more, If you are looking for a great read and a quick one that will leave you happy and content for a bit, this is it.
It Started With A Kiss is an enchanting story about first love and second chances. Author Lindy Dale weaves a fun tale set in Perth, Australia, that follows the love story of Georgie Bird and Nate Adams.
Georgie and Nate met when they were eight years old, when Georgie's family moved from Melbourne to Perth and she was the new girl in school. Their friendship grew and they became inseparable best friends over the years: they pretend married each other at the age of ten, and shared their first real kiss and became boyfriend and girlfriend at the age of fifteen. But when they turned seventeen their relationship was over after high school graduation when Georgie left for university in Melbourne while Nate deferred university for a year of traveling the world. They never spoke to each other after their parting, nor did they ever seek each other out. Twelve years later Georgie has moved back home to Perth, and while out jogging she meets up with Nate. At first he doesn't recognize her, but when he does they spend the rest of the afternoon reminiscing and catching up with each other. Old feelings for each other are still there ... first kiss, first love, and soul mates ... but can past loves be rekindled? Will Georgie and Nate get a second chance at love, or is it best to keep the memories in the past?
It Started With A Kiss was a sweet romantic novella that quickly draws the reader into Georgie and Nate's love story. Written in the third person narrative, their story alternates between their past (from age eight through seventeen) to the present time of twelve years later when they unexpectedly meet again. I really enjoyed following the progression of their relationship, it was cleverly interwoven with very detailed humorous and romantic memories that they shared during their relationship. I couldn't help but fall in love with Georgie and Nate ... who knew that love that lasts a lifetime could start with just a kiss?
If you are a hopeless romantic who believes in first loves, soul mates and second chances, then It Started With A Kiss is a quick little romance story that will leave a smile on your face.
Disclaimer: I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for my honest review and participation in a virtual book blast event hosted by Juniper Grove Book Solutions.
I know this may seem surprising, considering I am Australian myself, but for some reason I’ve never enjoyed reading it. Maybe because I feel some authors overdo it with Aussie lingo or try to add too many colloquial terms to seem “unique” and “relatable” to Australians, but really all it does is aggravate me to no end.
But, boy, what a pleasant surprise I got when I picked up It Started With A Kiss and found myself, dare I say it, laughing and enjoying reading the Australian terms! Despite the fact I’ve never lived in Perth or Melbourne, it painted a vivid picture, and I could totally understand the events at all times, considering I grew up amongst Australian teenagers as well, and I can testify that this was literally pretty much an excellent description of my childhood that was not slightly overdone.
The story centers around Georgie and Nate, two people who met at eight and soon became friends, convinced from youngsters that they were in love. At fourteen, they became a couple, which lasted for three years and then ended in burning flames as Georgie was torn between university and a veterinary science degree, and an offer from the love of her life to go backpacking around the world for a year.
Fast forward twelve years, from which they haven’t seen each other since the night when she chose a future over a gap year. Immediately they are enamored by each other, and soon resume the love they had so many years ago.
I think the thing I loved the most about this book, apart from it being fairly short and concise, but still managing to keep me captivated and enthralled, was the change in chapters. Interchangeably, the book would go from the modern-day story of the reunion between Nate and Georgie, to their childhood when they grew and fell in love. I found it really cute and clever, and enjoyed the contrast between their sneaky childhood days and their more mature love conquest. It was actually quite cute, for a fluffy romance novel (which, let’s admit it, we all kind of love).
I’m giving this book 5/5, because it was really awesome and I enjoyed reading a book a little closer to home. Very refreshing and interesting in contrast, and also very laughable. I honestly couldn’t put it down!
Some people meet their first love when they’re thirteen, others when they’re thirty-three. In the novelette, It Started With a Kiss, Georgie Bird and Nate Adams meet when they’re eight. Georgie is the awkward, gangly new girl and Nate is the coolest yet nicest boy in their second grade class. Nate and Georgie were so inseparable that at age ten, Nate proposed to Georgie in a closet. “When we grow up do you wanna get married to me? If we get married we can live in the same house and we’d never have to have sleepovers again” (10). They didn’t officially become boyfriend/girlfriend until they were fifteen. “For Georgie’s part, once she’d discovered kissing Nate to be akin to an afternoon in the company of a huge slab of chocolate fudge, she’d never looked back” (48). But several years later, their sweet romance took a sour turn when Georgie decided to attend university while Nate chose to take a year long trip around the world. They don’t meet up again until twelve years later “if you rounded off the three months, five days, and oh, two hours” (16). Georgie hopes they’ll rekindle their friendship but surely Nate isn’t romantically interested in her anymore, considering she’s unemployeed and living with her parents after her fiance cheated on her. Nate on the other hand, is an uber-successful world traveler with a hot, big-boobed girlfriend. Surely Georgie can’t compete with that? It Started With a Kiss is a quick, sweet read. In fact, my only complaint is that it ended too quickly which is a sure sign of a good book!

I can't say enough good things about this book! I loved it! My only complaint is that I wanted it to be longer!
I love seeing Georgie & Nate when they were kids & teenagers! It Started with a Kiss is such a down to earth relate-able novella!
Very cute romantic story that leaves you smiling and happy you read it!
Love a book that makes me look silly when I start laughing at the book.
Actually, it started with a comparison of their chicken pox scabs. A couple of sleepovers, an argument over the Lego box, and next thing, they’re married in a closet at the ripe old age of eight. But the teenage years can be tough, and Nate and Georgie’s romance struggles to survive the petty jealousies, the spilled popcorn, and their parents’ expectations. What makes them think anything’s different now? It Started With a Kiss is the latest romantic comedy from Lindy Dale, and everything we’ve come to expect from Aussie’s chick-lit queen. You’ll want to clear your calendar, grab a cuppa, and curl up with this little gem, which comes complete with romance, laughter… and a smear of dog poo!
This was a sweet story about first love. Your first kiss. The first boy that notices you and holds you hand. The first time you think of your wedding day. Now imagine dating that boy since you were 8, just to lose him in high school. What would you have to say to him if your met him 12 years later? This was a good book. I liked the ending and it was not about the sex, or a lot of different characters. It was about being in love, losing love, and trying to get it back. I am giving this book a 5/5. I was given a copy to review, however all opinions are my own.
What a wonderfully sweet novella. I loved this story
Georgie Bird was out for a jog one day and happened to run into her childhood and high school boyfriend Nate. They had loved each other most of their lives but split up when she left for college. It's been twelve years since they last saw each other and neither has married. They begin to rekindle the love they lost, the love that kept them from marrying another.
This is one of the sweetest stories I have read and it held a love so true that my heart wept for such purity.
I liked the story. I could relate to Riverside Drive n dog poo having lived in Perth. The story reflected back when Georgie n Nate met in primary school n onto making a decision about what direction to go after high school. Seemed the parents were against the relationship n tried breaking it up n Georgie was into pleasing her parents over what made her happy. The result being 12 years later back in Perth n a chance meeting of Nate n sorting out what they found about their past decisions n now ready to give themselves a chance. I think the ending was a little abrupt but hey the result was ok.
I love this book. It's so nice. A story of Georgie and Nate who were childhood best friends and how they fall in love after being apart. Together since forever. Elementary school then middle and high school, they went through all the drama by each other's side, fighting their attraction for as long as they could and finally succumbing to it. They part ways before college, and twelve years hence fate works to bring them back together.
Much to my surprise, I enjoyed this novella. I didn't know a single thing about Lindy Dale, I just bought it on Amazon because it was free (and probaby still is), but I was pleasantly surprised. The story was balanced, well-paced and the characters were pretty round for such a short piece of writing. I wish Georgie and Nate from the present had a better story between them, I would have liked to see more development. Not just bam wam thank you m'am.
This story is about two people who fell in love as children, then because parents always think they know best, broke up to appease their parents. Years later they find each other again and while I wish there was more and I craved for something with more thickness this short story is a cute to the point read. I'd recommend it for anyone in a reading slump or between books.
This was a cute story, it started out silly and funny. The only thing I didn't care about even though it was a short story was the way it ended. One minute your reading and then the next that's it, It's just over the end. It didn't feel like an ending. But for a short story it was cute
A cute, sweet and a quick read. I love the transition from present to the past and vice versa. It has the right ingredient into it. Since, it's just short you won't get bored reading. It will be a perfect read during a break time. I enjoyed reading ISWAK, it gave me the memories back of my childhood crush. Who doesn't have a childhood crush anyways?
A sweet romance that takes you back to being a child through the years to growing up and the many phases toward adulthood. Ms Dale does an excellent job of relating a life long long into a fabulous story.
First love is a subject we all experience and meeting them years later and thinking could this go somewhere now, is something alot of people can relate to.
Nawwww this was such a sweet book... It was a tad too short, it only took me a few hours to read, it would have been nice to have a few more chapters and to get to know the characters a bit better, but it was so stinkin' cute! I loved it! :)
«found free on the kindle app» Cute short story about first love. was a quick read. its worth the time to read the book. and for a free book i have no complaints which is rare. if your not lucky enough to get it for free..its definitely worth paying for.
Wow. This is not my typical book, but I was in the mood for something different. I enjoyed how real the characters were. I also enjoyed the whole idea of being united with, not only your childhood best friend but, your first love. This story was beautiful and would recommend it to all readers.
This was a short but fun read. I enjoyed reading about Georgie and Nate. It was a cute storyline and held my attention. I wish there were more to the ending though. I would've liked to have seen what the future holds for them.
