Shinrin-Yoku is the gentle, healing practice of "Forest Bathing." Widely used in Japan, Forest Bathing and other nature-based healing practices are making their way into the rest of the world. In this book, Wilderness Guide and Nature Connection Mentor M. Amos Clifford draws on four decades of experience to suggest leadership strategies for taking people on Shinrin-Yoku walks. The book includes links to medical research and other background sources.
This was a very brief introduction to Japanese forest therapy as practiced by an organization here in the United Staes called The Association of Nature and Forest Therapy.
Shinrin-Yoku, which translates as "forest bathing," or luxuriating in the woods transformed my daily life and has had numerous positive effects on my health both physically and mentally.
M Amos Clifford's prescription for health and well being is a blessing as well as an inspiration to so many who have found a deep connection with nature. This healing way of Shinrin-yoku Forest Therapy boosts the immune system, relieves stress, reduces blood pressure and heart rate as well as reducing fatigue and improving over all mood. Relaxation at it's best!
I am grateful for the teaching and the book is a power source to learn more. Shinrin-yoku is humbling to say the least and I recommend it for all.
A quote by Stephen Harrod Buhner of the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy in Shinrin-Yoku.org reads: "We who travel this earth must let other life forms speak to us on their own terms. We are only a small part of the song the earth sings. Only if we can learn to step out of our human orientation and see from the Earth's point of view can we do anything functional about the predicament facing our species."
