Maya is defending her friend Olivia for the murder of her lover. Maya is torn between her need to free Olivia and her need to be with her husband and baby daughter. Can she succeed against all odds? As an ARC member, I am happy to recommend this book wholeheartedly!!
Maya is back after the last case where her cousin was murdered. At the end of that book, she was pregnant and planned not to practice law anymore for a while. In this book, Evan and she are married, and the baby is between six and nine months old. She has led a quiet life since her last case but is continually looking over her shoulder because of those involved in both prior cases. Her life is perfect otherwise; they are having a few friends over to see the baby when an old childhood friend, Olivia, comes to her apartment in New York. They had not seen one another for 13 years. Olivia is fraught and not acting right. Come to find out, Olivia may be arrested for a murder…a very well-known fashion designer and influencer. Someone Olivia has been involved with for many years in Milan and the United States. The case will involve many drugs, alcohol, turbulent fights, an intense love, and seemingly no other witnesses. Maya will do everything she can to defend her friend, but she is running on empty and with little hope. Plus, what will it do to her marriage by taking time away from her family? Is her friend guilty or innocent? Nothing is too simple about this case and only time and evidence will prove that answer!
I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
Maya is a new mother now and she is not planning on taking any cases at the present time. That all changes when an old friend from many years ago drops at her down and tells Naya that she killed someone. Olivia, who Maya has not talked to for at least 13 years, explains what happens. Later, Olivia is arrested and Maya agrees to defend her.
The trial begins and Maya has not found anything that will prove Olivia innocent. She has a feeling and asked her investigator, Johnny, to look into several people. Trial happens and the only thing left is for both sides to deliver closing arguments. Maya has not heard anything back from Johnny yet and things are bleak. Finally Johnny contacts her.
Did the information that Johnny provide help at all, what impact did Maya taking the case have on her family and did Maya win. You need to read this book to find out.

My Sentiments:
'Tangled In Justice' was quite a legal thriller where lawyer Maya Jones had her hand full with this case of helping her friend Olivia, who had been charged with the murder of her lover. This is one of those cases that will keep you turning the pages till the very end. Will Maya be able to handle all that is ahead with the case while she is also needed to be with her husband and baby daughter? Each of the characters was well-developed which made the story seem so real. Will Maya be able to solve this case? To find out you will have to pick up this good read to see how well this author brings it all out to the reader.
Freya Atwood is a fabulous word smith who keeps me reading long through the night. Every page turning because I have to know the whole story. I love how her characters seem real, whole and flawed.
I rated minus one star because of the many, many grammatical errors. From using the wrong pronouns to incorrect words "spell checked" but changed so the sentence makes no sense.
Maya's plan of taking time off after having her child comes up against a snag when a friend is involved in a murder, and she is the prime suspect. This thrilling story kept me glued to the pages and on the edge of my seat. Will Maya be able to get her friend off. I felt like I was in the story as I read it. It was intense and gets your emotions revved up! I am volunteering to leave a review for an ARC of this book.
When an old friend contacts Maya after a decade or so of silence, she's happy to see her. That changes when she learns the woman is tangled up in a murder as the prime suspect. Having just had a baby recently, Maya had planned on time off with her child. But her friend needs her legal talent. And so it begins.
Maya is caught again in a criminal mystery as her best friend Oliva is charged with murder. All thge evidence points to Oliva but Maya takes on her defense. I found the plot very good and intense as Maya has to solve the mystery with her friend Johnny, an investigator. I recommend this book for all crime and mystery readers.
This was a fast-paced, interesting read, that I found I did not want to put down! Great, multi-faceted characters. Suspenseful and thrilling. Kept me intrigued from the first page to the last.
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
I found the story to be very fascinating. I had no idea who the guilty person was but felt sorry for the turmoil that the lawyer went through. A new mom stuck in a stressful legal battle. This is a must read.
Maya Jones is very persistent and believes in exploring even the most unexplained of circumstances. A very well written book with a very good court case. A must read.
