After years of solitude, Teddy Wright is tasked with a strange taxidermy request. He’s never preserved the human body before, but after the corpse awakens his darkest desires, he’s determined to become a master at it. He just needs to practice on more specimens first…
Author’s This is a horror story with explicit content. Reader discretion is advised.
Audrey Rush writes kinky dark romance and erotic horror. She celebrates spooky season every day, and she is obsessed with Disney. You can find her in the South, drowning in coffee.
Skin is a depraved and twisted story. It centres around a taxidermist who is a loner who loves nothing more than searching the dark web for violent videos to satisfy his lust of death.
He receives frantic knocking at his door one day with a woman who requires his skills for an unusual request. She does not require her beloved dog or bird too be given new life it's something more personal and more illegal. Her own daughter. This will allow him to chance to finally act on these dark impulses which plague his mind but is he up to the task?
What follows is vile, perverted and aberrant as he goes about his work and we listen to his inner thoughts and desires. The story takes dramatic twist near the end that leaves more and more bodies falling victim to his appetite and horrid mind.
A story that leaves you sick, shocked and feeling dirty for enjoying it so much. Well written inner dialogue of the protagonist as he grapples with his desire vs society's views on what it ethical and his eventual consumption as his darkness takes over.
A quick short story, but with one hell of an impact, very well written and the scenes were excellently described with plenty of gore and disturbing parts, the storyline kept me interested until the end. Audrey Rush has a lot of potential as a horror author,I would most certainly read more of her books in the future. Only 4 stars⭐⭐⭐⭐ as I would have liked it to have been longer.
I don’t feel bad for the redhead. In fact, I don’t mourn any of them, nor do I feel guilty for what I’m about to do. In my mind, the bitch is already dead.
Fans of the nasty, demented and deranged serial killer who just loves to abuse his victims will absolutely love this short, horrifying tale. The taxidermy element to human bodies brings in an extra, quite unique element which certainly adds something extra to the whole grisly and grotesque snapshot into the mind of a sexually perverted madman. Pure quality - enjoy!
Next time you visit friends with big chest freezers - be careful…and just think on.
Will definitely be reading more from this highly talented horror author who manages to offer something just a little bit different. Fantastic!
Rating: 4.3 dead stars - great, but unfortunately just a bit on the short side.
I’m stuck in a “what did j just read?”, “why was it amazing?”, “do I need to be studied for giving this 5 stars?”. This DEFINITELY isn’t a book for everyone. Please read the triggers and take them seriously. Audrey did not hold back! I throughly enjoy morbid stories. My curiosity often gets the best of me and has for years. The psychology behind why people do the things Teddy does in this story blows my mind, I want to know more honestly. The fact that this is Audrey’s first true horror novel blows my mind. Again, not for the faint of heart but if you like the morbid side of things, definitely check it out.
You don’t want to bump into Teddy! Teddy loves searching the dark web for depraved, pornographic snuff films. Teddy is also a taxidermist…….. mix these 2 together and you get a nasty little book!
Attempting to re-write review my first one got deleted (Always remember to screenshot what you write/write in a note pad first.)
Taxidermy Humans- Count me in!!!
Triggers/ What to expect: (Always check the warnings) - Taxidermy - Necrophilia - Incest - Father and Daughter (Blood) - Rape - Murder - Objectification
"I'm not a necrophiliac."
Teddy is a taxidermist and one day gets a strange request from a mother to preserve her daughter which soon lead to caving into a desire that has laid hidden.
"An object can’t speak. An object is simply owned."
This is something I have wanted to read or write myself for a long time. The nearest I have come across is where girls were being kidnapped and then preserved to look like a living doll. I have always been fascinated by taxidermy, every since I was probably about 8 years old after watching/ reading tales of the unexpected: Landlady. Where it is applied that the guests are getting stuffed. It always left me with questions wondering how would you prevent a human corpse from decaying? What would you use to make the mould? I can imagine the skin discolouring. The nearest we have had is the work by Gunther Von Hagen's 'Body World' I was obsessed while I was at university and would love to visit the exhibition one day.
I loved Audrey's writing style it was an easy read and flowed really well for a 62 page book. I would have loved for the book to be longer and personally to be even more darker. I will be definitely be reading more of Audrey's work and I hope she does more horror themed books in the future.
I'm pretty sure someone warned me that this wasn't a romance, and I really should have investigated further on what that meant. Def NOT anything romantic about this. There's a lot of murder and necrophilia - but NO romance.
I'm not rating it with stars because it wouldn't be fair to the author.
When I first heard about Skin in Audrey’s reader group and saw the cover, I was very intrigued. I’ve been diving deep into the dark and twisted lately, and this seemed like the perfect next read. Audrey flawlessly executed her debut into erotic horror and I surprised myself with how much I liked it. This book follows a taxidermist as he received an unusual request, which unlocks both dark desires and an unlikely partnership. This book left me wanting more of Audrey’s work and I cannot wait to see what she comes out with next!
Thank you so much to Audrey and BookSirens for an ARC of this book!
Genre: Horror Type: Standalone Novella POV: First Person - Male Rating:
Years of experience made Theodore Wright the most sought-after taxidermist around. But a special request required a special skill he was more than willing to explore.
This story certainly caught my attention with its extreme but subtle content. I love how Theodore judged and rationalized his actions, which made him relatable in a way. The author managed to pack a complete and fascinating story in a bite-size package.

I found a call for horror erotica readers on Tiktok and thought, hey, I love both of those! Sign me up, and by golly, I’m glad I did.
Theodore is a stuffer of things: dead animals, people, whatever is lying around. When a Mother brings her Daughter to Teddy to get … stuffed, things aren’t what they seem. Theodore is a perfectionist and he doesn’t like things half-assed.
SKIN a short story of pure insanity! From the first line, “I crush the head of my dick a like a stress ball as the video zooms in closer to the woman’s face”, the reader knows they are in for a good time… well, at least an interesting time. For jaded extreme horror/splatterpunk readers, this is a breath of fresh air. It’s creative, kinda hot, and well, bloody. Rush definitely needs to come into the extreme horror/splatterpunk realm and hang out with us. What’s a little necrophilia between friends?
I must confess that I'm a bit lost for words while trying to write this review. The book I just finished reading was an absolute page-turner, and I found it hard to put it down. The author has done an excellent job weaving a storyline that reminded me of the classic character Norman Bates while simultaneously incorporating the eerie and unsettling atmosphere of the book Skeleton King. However, I must warn you that this novel is not for the faint of heart, as it delves into much darker themes.
Skin is the first book I've read from this author, and it certainly won't be my last. I love her writing style.
OH MY GOD AUDREEEEEEYYYY!!!! This is the best version of wtf did I just read! Was it gore? Yes. Was it scary? Yes. Was it vile? Yes. Could I put it down? NO. I devoured this book. Literally inhaled it. Oh my god. I was intrigued from the first chapter, when it took a turn i did NOT expect. I wish it was longer, I crave knowing what happens next or does he ever get caught! I adore the way Audrey writes this type of dark books, the thoughts behind the acts, the emotions. It makes me understand where the depravity comes from. 5/5⭐️ GIVE ME MORE OF IT!!!
Y’all I wanted to do a fun spooky read to get into the Halloween spirit (I was also bored and alone on a Friday night). Don’t do what I did. I’ve seen some reviews saying the writing was amazing (it wasn’t), but honestly it wasn’t anything to write home about. I was VERY surprised to find out this book was written by a woman because at times it was giving Stephen King in a way you would only understand if you read one of his books (and that’s not a compliment).
Overall, this book was a bad attempt at a thriller (or Bizzaro, or Horror. Whatever you wanna call it, it was bad.).
This was such a superb tale of horror. I absolutely loved the main character. I thought the plot was absolutely raunchy in the best way. My jaw dropped at the ending. I will never look at these dolls the same way after this book. I will certainly be reading more by this author. It was polished and entertaining from start to finish.
There's no real rating for this book other than: what the f*ck I just read 🖤I really don't know what to say about this book, guys 🖤I hated this book and at the same time I liked it 🖤It's disgusting, but it's well-written
Not gonna lie - the cover for this is stunning!! And was def the reason I wanted to read this. I went in blind, only knowing that it was a horror so I read those triggers. But I shrugged my shoulders and dove in, I do recommend reading them though!!
This is my first read of Audreys but I kinda wanna go & read her other stuff now that I know her mind can and will go to places like this. This isnt long, its a small novella but it packs a punch. I questioned myself - multiple times 🫣 but I was invested.. I wanted more!
Is it twisted that I rated this twisted little book 5🌟?
With only 49 pages, this was the shortest read I have ever had and yet it sucked me in from the very first sentence. Don’t get me wrong, this book is dark and the content is twisted but I loved this. I need a book that I don’t want to put down and I would have read even more about it.
Was this book dark? Yes. Was it as disturbing as I thought it would be? No. Not based on reactions that I have seen after reading it. I’m not sure what that says about my brain. 😅😂
I was expecting more gore and adrenaline... I do get that we needed to see it through the eye of a psychopath(or sociopath, correct me if I'm wrong), no feelings, no regrets, no remorse... Yet the story lacked that one ounce of excitement I was searching for in this book! It was a fast paced, okayish work of creep, won't waste anyone's time!!!
At first I was thinking the author needs to have a psych eval done… but now I think maybe we both need one. 2 stars because it’s a VERY unique story not because it’s good. Will be signing up for a baptism at church tomorrow after reading this.
