Bad Boys of Rock #1

How to Seduce a Rockstar

Rate this book
(Alternate cover edition of ASIN B0CCFB387X.)

Grab your backstage pass and prepare to be rocked by this sizzling rockstar romance!

Talia

My life is getting boring. A little too predictable. I need to shake things up a bit, so my roommate helps me come up with a plan to add some sizzle back into my relationship with my boyfriend.

The plan? Nailed it. Everything goes down without a hitch. Except for one teeny, tiny catch. Actually, it’s a colossal one. Yep, it's a disaster—because it turns out the guy in my boyfriend’s bed … is not my boyfriend. Oops.

Boring and predictable are the least of my worries now.

Ryder

I’ve got a million reasons to steer clear of Talia Bennett, the girl who gave me the surprise awakening of my life. Aside from my chaotic rock and roll lifestyle and the thousands of miles between us, she’s all about settling down when I’m allergic to commitment. So why can’t I keep my distance from her?

When it comes to Talia, I just can’t resist. I need to make her mine.

"How to Seduce a Rockstar" is a full-length, steamy rockstar romance, with a laugh-out-loud and super-spicy meet-cute, a dirty-talking hero, a strong and feisty heroine, and a satisfying happily ever after.

Abandoned at 16%. Started off strong but quickly became silly and repetitive.
I don’t usually mark my DNFs at such an early point, but I had to share this outfit description, published in 2023 for a woman in her 20s:
“I chose a favorite pair of off-white linen capri pants with wide legs and little pom-poms hanging off the hems.”

CAPRI PANTS?! WITH POM POMS?! Literally no 20 year old has worn this for at least 10 years. Authors, I’m begging you to look at recent fashion please.

Average ‘rockstar meets ordinary girl’ romance that starts with a spicy introduction to our MCs.
Who came up with that ridiculous book title though? It in no way connects to the story (she doesn’t set out to seduce a rockstar, in fact, she has no idea who…).
I liked some of the more gentle aspects of the developing relationship between Talia and Ryder, and the grovel portion is well played.
I always enjoy a ‘found family’ subplot and that’s present here, in the relationships between the band members, with some character growth that sets things up well for subsequent books in the series. It also features in the bond between the FMC and her best friend.
One thing that was lacking was actual scenes of the band performing (minimal), and there were only a few rehearsal type scenes (a bit underwhelming). The Stage Dive, VIP and Dirty series, among others by other authors, provide a more well-rounded ‘rockstar’ experience.
Another problematic aspect: a decent subplot is established, but it’s not completely resolved and sort of fades into nothingness. This leaves many plot holes and loose ends, which is frustrating. Perhaps it’ll be addressed in subsequent books in the series, though this seems unlikely.
There’s a little OM drama at the start but soon resolved. I always find it a bit unrealistic when the FMC is depicted initially in such a subpar long term relationship (in this case, three years with a guy who doesn’t ever give her Os, or really seem to care for her) prior to meeting the MMC, but… ok, I’ll go with it…
There’s also a tiny bit of suspected, but not actual, OW drama, which the FMC is a bit too quick to believe.
I found a few minor proofreading errors, but they weren’t too prevalent.
I’ve just learnt that there’s a four-book series, ‘Rock Me’, telling the stories of several couples that appeared in this one, so it’s probably best to read those first.

I loved it.

Even amongst the dramarama and the angst, these two never lost their heads. Ryder and Talia stayed true to themselves and never went left field. The rockstar trope can be problematic for me sometimes, but I actually love this trope, and I'm glad it was not one that went sideways. Despite how it starts off, it's not a problematic storyline, which I was a bit iffy about at first. These two pretty much only had the hots for each other. There were bumps in the road, but they stayed the course for their HEA win. It is a really good story with many elements in play, especially for Ryder. I floved how they first "met." 🥵🔥😆🤭

A new-to-me author, I am looking forward to reading more from her.

"What are we going to do, Talia?"
I could barely breathe. "About what?"
"Us."

This is the book 1 in the Bad Boys Of Rock series. I couldn’t put it down. So many funny moments but also a lot of depth to the characters. Loved them exploring one another and seeing those different sides!

✨Tropes✨
- Dual POV
- Rockstar MMC
- Small town MFC
- Spicy Meet cute
- Insta love
- Yearning
- Banter
- Family Issues

Spice Level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
O.L.D. ☯️ IYKYK 👀

MMC - Ryder 🎸
She was ethereal, like an angel, but l'd already seen a flash of something else in her eyes. A feisty spark. If she had a halo, then she also had horns, too.

MFC - Talia 👠
He was a complete stranger, but we had a connection. Chemistry.
Hell, an all-consuming fire. I couldn't deny it.

Overall Thoughts:
I loved the story and the ups and downs they had. I’m not usually into insta love stories but even though they had a connection there was yearning because of her boyfriend when they first meet and then the long distance with him in California and her in Ohio. Lots of interesting plot lines dealing with his family stuff, I was so sad for him! It was beautiful to see him not only fall for someone like Talia but to learn to open his heart to those all around him. I loved the epilogue to see what happened with his family relationships!

I loved the side characters and hope to see more of them throughout the series!! Can’t wait to read the next book!

Its not quite a 4 in my eyes but for the sake of rounding I'll make it a 4. Chapter 36 was a full on skim.

At first, I liked the FMC. However, by the 3/4 I really was annoyed by her. She jumped to conclusions and failed to communicate. She acted like a child at times. She seemed to be sending mixed signals at times. She seemed too immature to actually be in a serious relationship with some of her conduct. I get being insecure or having doubts when the MC’s behavior is suspect, but that’s what a conversation is for. Use your words! Ask direct questions! Don’t just blow up and block people without giving them an opportunity to explain what you think is the problem. I hate people like that.

Then the last 1/4 of the book is a weeks long letter-writing, gift-giving campaign that could have easily been done in one phone call or lengthy letter. MC groveled for over 3 weeks. Those letters dragged on. Don’t get me wrong; I love a good grovel!!! But in this instance, I didn’t feel like MC did anything grovel worthy. FMC was the person in the wrong for jumping to conclusions, saying mean-spirited things and blocking his number—all without actually telling him what he did wrong and giving him an opportunity to defend himself. She should have been the one semi-groveling. Then reconciliation was unnecessarily drawn out and I was bored by the end when they finally actually got to meet up.

Also, I hate that Stan got away with everything he did in the book. And MC’s mom was pathetic and seemingly had no consequences for her behavior and choices either. MC sacrificed big for her and there’s no indication that it was ever noted or appreciated. What’s to stop her from being stupid in an entirely new way going forward? This was frustrating to read.

I liked the beginning of the story, the ending not so much.

Finished the book in one day - at first I enjoyed the story line, it kept me entertained, however, around the 70% mark it started to drag a bit. I do give credit to the author for mixing it up from the typical rock start romance that we read about. And I appreciate the fact that once Ryder and Talia cross paths he is a one woman man and isn’t crossing lines, which would be easy to do given his life style.

I did feel like there were some major plot holes that I couldn’t get over, ultimately bring the overall rating down for me.

I thought it was a huge plot hole by not having any resolution between Ryder and his mom. She single handedly caused him to lose a relationship with his dad growing up by making Ryder believe that his dad abandoned him, when that was the furthest thing from the truth. Not only that, but she also stayed in a relationship with a man who was bleeding her bank account try and controlling her finances to the point where she co-signed on a loan (with loan sharks) which eventually caused Ryder to lose his beloved house so he could pay it back (otherwise the loan sharks would go after his family). All of this happens, yet there is no resolution or satisfying conversation between him and his mom. How can he not tell her off for manipulating him as a kid and straining his relationship with his father or how can she not feel guilt or apologize over the life threats that Ryder and his loved ones received because of her. It feels so unresolved that I can’t even focus on anything else when I reflect on this book. I understand his mom is battling some type of mental illness, but she has continuously been encouraged over multi year periods to seek help and yet she refuses. Her choices caused so much pain and suffering - would have been nice to get her perspective or hear if the blow back finally lead to her seeking help (or even just Ryder letting her know the consequences that her actions had on everyone around her). Ugh I can’t believe this was so unresolved.

Also, this is a smaller point but I can’t believe that we never heard any complaints from Max, Talia’s ex boyfriend, after she ended up with Ryder. She met Ryder as he was high school friends with her then boyfriend of 3 years, Max. Within days of meeting Ryder she breaks up with Max, they had been having issues anyways, but yet we never hear about him again?! What does he think when he finds out his ex is dating a guy he introduced her to? Also, the first night that she accidentally slept with Ryder - where was Max if he wasn’t in the apartment? If he has a spare room I would think that’s where Ryder would have stayed, so my thought process is that he didn’t stay at his apartment that night and was likely cheating. Which we had confirmation/more info here.

Problematic. So many issues with this book.

First the amount of secondary stories with no real resolution...the brother, the dad, the mother and her husband, the loan shark. All drama for the sake of creating drama as if the book did not have enough already and all given the equivalent of one sentence to wrap it up which left me feeling unsatisfied with the result.

Second the insane jealousy of Talia. It was over the top, extremely immature and very unsexy. Given she essentially cheated on her boyfriend ( unintentionally once and again on purpose agreeing to dinner with him and things transpiring during dinner in the bathroom) her jealousy of Ryder comes across very cringe. How are you going to profess such a deep love for someone you don't trust AT ALL!

Third Talia herself. She has a night with Ryder thinking it's her ex. Agrees to visit him in LA after a week. Spend a week with him in LA and is in love with him? After 2 weeks?? Where all they do is have sex?? (And for all the talk of public sex, drugs, and orgies she envisioned as part of the rock and roll lifestyle the sex scenes were mediocre at best.) She stalks him on the internet like a psycho, tries too hard to fit in his rock and roll lifestyle that she becomes someone she's uncomfortable with but doesn't want him to lose interest because she's boring and yet I'm supposed to believe she's not a 16 year old child because that is exactly the way she comes across in the book. Everything is surface level and we never do get a connection deeper than that from her. She just an obsessed groupie.

Forth the letters to win her back towards the end. So much a woman's point of view even though we're expected to believe it comes from Ryders point of view. Writer needs to do some research from men if she wants to write a believable male POV. It just wasn't realistic and again made me cringe.

There were interesting parts of the book buy they were so few and far between that I couldn't rate it higher than a 2 star. I certainly will not be reading any more of this series.

How to Seduce a Rockstar: A Steamy Rockstar Novel (Bad Boys of Rock Book 1) by Arabella Quinn begins with a spicy scene that is so hot I expected smoke to waft from my iPad’s Kindle app. It all starts with Ryder, guitarist with the rock band “Ghost Parker,” deciding to crash at college buddy Max’s apartment before going home to see his family. Talia is Max’s girlfriend who ends up fighting with each other more than a loving couple with a three-year history. After another fight on Max’s birthday in a bar, they leave separately. With her girlfriend egging her on and plying her with lots of liquid courage in shots, Talia goes to Max’s apartment to fulfill Max’s favorite fantasy she nicknames “OLD.”
I am still LOL, so you must read the book to find out what the letters stand for. Ryder and Talia have an encounter that rocks both of their worlds. Finding a way to forge their lives together is quite a feat that they both want to try. Ryder keeps so much locked inside himself and tries solving all problems without help from others until his life implodes. Misunderstanding and jealousy drive Talia away from Ryder. Ryder finally seeks help ways to win back his girl. He sends gifts and writes letters to Talia as he begins to share what happened when she visited him in California. As a former college grad, I feel Ryder letters could be something a guy could write on paper as easier than in person. Regardless, I was cheering for the HEA when it was finally realized. I loved this book so much that I looked for the back catalog of her books by Arabella Quinn to read about the other band mentioned in How To Seduce a Rockstar.

I Really enjoyed this story.
The story starts with Talia at a bar fighting with her boyfriend. He ends up storming off even though its his birthday. Talia stays at the bar and gets drunk with her bestie. They have a convo about Talia trying to spice up their sex life. Guess its been lacking. Ugh.
She ends going to her bfs apartment in the attempt to seduce him. What happens next is the fucking craziest story I have ever read! I was still laughing about it a couple.of days later. I wont go into details but I was like " Who the fuck does that??? And why they fuck would he just go with it??? The craziest 1st meet cute I ever read. I could never do that but thats what so funny about their 1st interaction. 😆🤦‍♀️
I was happy she broke up with her bf though but she did accidently cheat on him. Smh.

I loved every part of this book. The whole story flowed well and you were cheering for Ryder the whole time. Yes!! 👏
Small town girl✔️
Rockstar✔️
Angst✔️
Steamy sex ✔️
This story had a bit of dark stuff as well. Kind of unexpected but it worked in the story.
I loved that Ryder wasn't the typical rock star billionaire. He had a lot of personal shit happen to him and had to deal with homelessness and being broke.Cmon...sleeping in the parking lot of Walmart??? 🤔😆
He had a shitty relationship with his family and we got to see work through that. In the end though, I was glad he got his shit together. The wooing at the end was so good with the letters. Swoon! I loved Ryder.
I laughed a lot reading this story and definitely recommend it to you readers.
5 STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This will be one of my favorites. Chefs kiss 💋

So I started off liking this. It was pretty good until about 70%. There was some odd drama. There was some impossibly ridiculous obstacles to overcome - made out way worse then necessary. I get he is broke at the “3rd act breakup” BUT he can’t figure out a way to talk to her? He doesn’t even TRY to call her after a short period? The way he wins her back, I don’t know – it was so high school. Maybe middle school. Maybe I am too strong willed of a woman – but no chance would I have let his “win her back” campaign come to an end the way he started the rules….. he clearly needed her. And then when he finally figured out how to get there – it was another 3 weeks ….and then after the 3 weeks it was another night?!? Seriously – AND THEN she moves across the country and they wait to move in together and they are both broke - it makes no logical sense. COME ON! It was actually comical at the end just how it was so unreal. I was interested in the other side characters, but I won’t take a chance on reading any of the other books, because I feel like I lost two days of my life reading this one.

This book was well written and kept me entertained from the start with the unconventional meet cute at the beginning of the book. It wasn't a 5 star read but I was leaning towards 4.5 stars but ultimately landed on 4 because of a couple things I wasn't crazy about with this book. First, I had a hard time coming to terms with Ryder having "insta-love" for Talia. He was known prior to this story as having commitment issues and never was interested in having a girlfriend. There wasn't enough turmoil dialogue in his head to show how he went from one extreme to the other on his stance of being in a relationship. There also wasn't much "rockstar" in this book. In fact, Ryder's band wasn't really even well-known at this time. That made the fact that he had a house on the beach in California and then went to sleeping on the couch of one of his bandmates hard to come to terms with in my mind because the band wasn't that famous at the time. Overall though it was good so I'm going to go on to the next one.

Meet-Awkward

Too funny! I was definitely familiar with the meet-cute, but this had to have fallen under the new category of meet-awkward 🤣😬

I actually started to like Ryder pretty much right away (despite some of his flaws). He certainly seemed to be more redeemable than Max, at least.

My biggest issues with the book were probably the very unexpected plot-twists/complications caused by that piece of trash, Stan, and all of the awful consequences that resulted from that situation. I really thought there’d be a different outcome. I also felt like there were some open holes in the story that should’ve been sewn up. Some, I expect will come in further books, but it just felt incomplete in some aspects.

It was a pretty quick read though & turned out to be times right with my (unfortunate) Covid recovery, so that was a plus.

I’ll be trying out book 2 straightaway.

When I started this book, I got really confused at the start of Chapter 2, when it indicated it was Max's POV. But, I loved how that was handled in the next chapter, with the strikethrough of Max and having Ryder.

This book was fun. I like that it was more in-depth and a longer story than many rockstar books out there. I want a more involved story, and this was definitely up my alley.
I could definitely feel the emotions in this one, and the groveling was done very well. In the letters, when the closing changed to I love you, I could actually feel it inside. It was so subtle and beautifully done, yet so powerful.

Of course, a lot of the heartache could be solved if both of them could just communicate with each other, but the heartache also has its place and allows the characters to grow.
I would definitely read this book again and I would recommend it to others.

Meet Cute Bad Boy Rocker Small town Girl

When Talia's birthday surprise for her B-friend goes wrong Ryder meets the woman of his dreams, literally. There are the usual issues and some unexpected twists. No cliff hangers, happy ending, interesting characters some of whom are from earlier "Rock Me" novels.
The character's lack of communication is frustrating at times but isn't that the way things are in real life as well? Talia and Ryder do eventually listen to their friends and figure things out.
The Author has grown as a writer since the very enjoyable"Rock Me" series and seems to have a better editor, making this book easier to read.

cute

Some positives I liked: I liked that this book was at the beginning of Ryder becoming famous, so not everything was neatly wrapped up with a bow. I like that he became homeless and had to live with friends on a couch. It just seemed a lot more realistic. There was also very few editorial errors.

Some issues with the plot: The author needs to look up facts about babies and pregnancy. A five month old is not eating puréed food. You don’t start introducing food until at least six months or later. Also, if you’re pregnant, you shouldn’t be getting a neck tattoo. Tattoos and piercings are for pre- or after pregnancy.

wow

Wow, just wow! I have truly enjoyed Ryder and Tallia‘s story. I so enjoyed the way they met, and how she got rid of Max. I truly enjoyed how Ryder’s friends rallied around him when he found out about Stan. His childhood had been one of abandonment, but his eyes were opened and he was able to see. Tallia was strong and loyal, and knew what she wanted, but wasn’t willing to give herself up for it. Thankfully, Ryder was Able to express his feelings and let his love shine through. Can’t wait for more, love all the side characters.

An instant love story

This story starts out with a plan that Doesn't really work. The plan was supposed to work on 1 man But it turned out it was somebody else. There was last laughter There was laughing laughter tears And yes fits of temper in this book. The author made this story come to life And there were times I felt so bad For the main character. They both went through a growing up. And trials and tribulations in the story. But that makes this book enjoyable that you wanna keep reading it....

Great Read!!!!

I really enjoyed reading How to Seduce a Rockstar(Bad Boys of Rock Book 1)!!! All about Natalie Bennett a women in her mid-twenties who is a secretary & Ryder Mathis who is a rock star who plays an acoustic guitar who is in his mid-twenties. He’s crashing at a friends house when he gets a surprise visit from his friends girlfriend in the most unexpected way. Read about Talia & Ryder as they navigate a complicated sexual attraction. Lots of emotion and some toe curling does occur. Definite Read!!!!

I have been reading rockstar romances occasionally and this looked like an interesting read. I enjoyed the first part of the book a lot more than I did the rest of it. As the book went on, it started to become a bit monotonous and slow-paced. I really liked Ryder, the gorgeous rockstar that fell for his friend’s girlfriend, but the story fell flat for me way too early in the book. The writing was good though, so the book deserves at least three stars, but I wish I’d gotten more into the story, as I usually enjoy this type of book.

I read this book on Kindle.

Needs better and stronger male perspective

This is the first book I’ve read from this author. All in all pretty good but the author needs to work on writing make characters a bit. The male lead was written way too feminine.

We women know what we want to hear and read from a male character but that’s just not how guy’s actually work communication wise. Ryder’s letters were just way too obviously written from a female perspective. So work on male perspective.

Really enjoyable

I loved Ryder and Talia.
Excellent writing and thoroughly enjoyable storyline.
This is my first book from Arabella Quinn and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I like her writing style, the funny moments and the teary moments. All the characters are brilliant and, when I finish this series, I will go back to the Cold Fusion series. I think I need to read bout “Crazy” Livvy!

Ryder and Talia

Great mix of hotness and laughing out loud - the way they met was actually Talia thinking she was surprising her boyfriend only to find Ryder, after the deed.

I just about died laughing through Talias' interpretation of song lyrics.

There were heartbreaking moments that unfortunately was really bad for Ryder who basically lost everything he worked for through no fault his own.

Great read - will definitely revisit this in the future!!!😍

This one was alright—gave it 3.5 stars. It’s a smooth, easy read with simple language and decent pacing, so if you’re not sure what to read next, it’s not a bad pick. It leans more toward romcom than full-on rockstar romance, so if you’re into the hardcore angst or drama-heavy kind, just keep that in mind. I enjoyed it for what it was, but it didn’t quite hit the vibe I was hoping for. Still, it was fun in the moment—even if it’s not one I’d rave about.

UGLY HAPPY CRY GUARANTEED!

Holy shnit, phew, fanning myself, wiping the tears from my eyes. Talia and Ryder hurt my heart, in a good way. Not your typical rockstar romance, so much better! This story is so lovely and well written. I'm still all choked up typing this. Read this story and fall in love a womanizing rock star as he meets and falls for a normal girl from Ohio.

This book was all over the place.
Wildest of meet cutes.
She dumps her longtime boyfriend.
Plenty of issues and problems.
Loan sharks? Sheesh.
Nice banter among the band and their women.
So whatever happened to Ryder’s mom?
I liked the book but I don’t think I’ll continue with the series.

Good story and likeable characters. Nice vibe with the other characters.

But too many plot holes for me.

Ryder's letters weren't in keeping with his character. As for him spending on all those presents when he was homeless that didn't make sense. The loan shark thing was not believable really. I dont know what happened to his mother.

This was an enjoyable book and I would recommend it. It didn't tug on many brain cells and just a bit too much sex, however Ryder's storyline was very good whereas Talia's was virtually nonexistent. I'm not advocating giving chapter after chapter on a character's background, however sharp writing can yield characters with sharp backgrounds and personalities.

Enjoyable read

Found it a little slow for a while after the initial meet between them. But then a decent storyline developed that I enjoyed. Was much better than I expected, although the sexy factor was sizzling, it was great that the book wasn’t just all about that. Definitely going to read the next in the series.
