What She Knew is a fascinating read that will keep you glued to the pages. Dan Clark crafts a superb domestic thriller that uncovers the hidden and twisted secrets of a seemingly perfect marriage.

The book is an emotional roller-coaster, with short chapters from Tom’s perspective. The characters are believable and likeable, with motives and emotions that make you care about them. The writing style is smooth and vivid, with descriptions and dialogues that create a tense and suspenseful atmosphere. The twist at the end is foreseeable, but satisfying.

This is my first time reading Dan Clark and I was pleasantly surprised. I’ll be sure to check out more of his books.

I struggled with this book a bit, as I thought the conversations between characters didn’t ring true, and a lot of the narrative is repetitive internal dialogue. The story centers on Tom and Amy, who have been happily married for 20+ years when he uncovers something unexpected, which causes Amy to clearly hide secrets. The story is told entirely from Tom’s POV.

The book is told in short chapters, which makes it an easy read, but the dialogue between characters and the complete turnaround in Amy’s personality just seemed unrealistic. There was also a whole huge argument scene where Tom accuses her of lying to him and never once asked why she feels the need to keep the secret. She probably wouldn’t have told him, but still….. I did guess the twist early but it made sense. The ending of the book was ok but I was still left with some outstanding questions when it all was said and done.

Overall, this wasn’t my favorite but it was a fairly quick read with a decent storyline. Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This is already the third book by Dan Clark I've received from the author himself. I received it for an honest review and this book will be published on the 26th of August and it's ready for pre-order for only 99p/99c 99c.

Tom and Amy are happily married and are living a quiet life. Their daughter Holly is a student at the University of Essex and she has a good relationship with her parents. Normally they celebrate the birthday of Holly at their own home inviting friends and family, except this year. Holly is quite busy at university so they go to meet her that weekend. Before they go there they visit the grave of Emma, Tom's sister, who died in a fire one year before. From that weekend onwards a stranger keeps approaching Amy making Amy feel quite unnerved. That's the point when the story takes a dramatic turn.

Once again the author managed very well to write a captivating story keeping you absolutely glued to the pages. As a reader you are kept guessing for most of the book about what exactly happened. You will find out near the end of course and you might have guessed it a bit beforehand as well, but it is a rather exciting story which is quite fast-paced making it an unputdownable thriller. I couldn't stop reading because I had to find out what happened and what was going to happen to the main characters. The few main characters are worked out very well and you actually feel that frustration of Amy and Tom, especially Tom's. The question remains, what would you do in such a situation? Trust the one you love or accept a specific narrative?

If you're into an unputdownable fast-paced domestic thriller, you should definitely check this one out!

Tom and Amy seem to have the perfect life - nice house, good jobs and daughter, Holly, at college. That is until Tom discovers a secret object to do with his deceased sister. Then a mysterious man turns up talking to Amy.

This was the first book I've read by Dan and what a page turner it was. So many twists, turns and shocks.

Tom didn't let things rest when he knew he was being lied to. I liked that about him, even though some of what he found out completely broke him.

I didn't like Amy when things started unravelling, but then by the end I actually felt sorry for her.

The plot twist at the end was a huge shock.

What a brilliant book! Tom is a likeable and genuine character and his family, Amy and daughter Holly come across as nice too. The storyline was brilliant as was the writing style. You assume you know what's going on but then you get thrown a curveball and oh my! What an ending!

The cover intrigued me also, as did the title, who knew what? What's the context? What happened and how does she find out? Loved it!

I am excited to read more by Dan in the future and love how his characters really come to life throughout the story!

I would happily recommend this book!

WOW!! This book was a real page turner! I read it overnight, and literally couldn’t put it down. It gripped me from the very first page, and didn’t let me go until the last. I love a book that makes me question, makes me think, and this did exactly that! It’s well written, well plotted, with a cast of characters that drive the story along. As the tension racked up, I found myself becoming uneasy, and I love that! Full of twists and turns, I thought I’d figured it all out - only to realise that I really hadn’t. The ending blew me away, I really didn’t see that coming, and it left me reeling! This book messed with my head, and took me down a dark path - fabulous!! Another nail-biter from Dan Clark, and I loved it. Highly recommended

Tom and Amy have a solid marriage...or so Tom thought. When it becomes apparent Amy is hiding something from him, Tom does all he can to find out her secret. Amy, on the other hand, becomes even more distant when she realizes Tom is searching for answers.

I can't rave about Dan Clark's books enough. Every time I get a new book in my hands, I literally squeal because I know I'm going to be in for a wild ride. What She Knew had all the twists I was expecting and so much more. The storyline was riveting, the characters were well written and the ending was jaw droppingly amazing. If you enjoy thrillers, I urge you to pick up this one. And once you've read it, I guarantee you'll be going back to read his backlist!

Huge thanks to Dan Clark for a complimentary copy of your book in exchange for my honest review.

I am honoured to have received an advanced copy of this book prior to release for a review.

I was hooked from the moment I started reading this and each chapter left me on edge, and I wanted to keep reading more. The story follows a guy called Tom who starts to find out secrets kept from his wife, relating to his dead sister.

The look of the book is definitely one that would have caught my eye. The writing style was easy to follow and read. I would really like to read other books by this author.

Dan Clark immediately throws us into a whirlwind of emotions, secrets, and unrelenting suspense - in his thriller novel, "What She Knew". With an atmospheric backdrop of an ostensibly perfect life shared by Tom and Amy Pearce, Clark deftly weaves a tale that unravels the façade of familiarity and comfort.

Tom Pearce, who once believed he knew everything there was to know about his wife and their shared life, suddenly finds himself plunged into a mire of doubt and confusion. The discovery of an object tied to a tragic past becomes a Pandora's Box, unleashing a series of events that shakes the very foundation of his trust in Amy. Clark's portrayal of Tom is nuanced and evocative, enabling readers to resonate deeply with his journey—from unwavering love and trust to deep skepticism and the burning need for answers.

Clark’s writing style is both crisp and engaging. The short chapters serve as an effective tool, keeping readers constantly on the edge, urging them to flip page after page. For those familiar with the genre, "What She Knew" stands out with its unpredictable twist that even seasoned thriller enthusiasts may not see coming. While the narrative is undeniably gripping, it's the characters that truly shine. Clark paints each character with a brush dipped in shades of grey, ensuring that as readers, our loyalties are continuously tested.

The subtle interplay between past tragedies and present mysteries is masterfully executed, and the relationships between characters, especially that of Tom and Amy, are explored with depth and sensitivity. The external reviews highlighted the tantalizing plot, the emotional rollercoaster experienced by the protagonists, and the unexpected revelations. In alignment with these observations, "What She Knew" is undoubtedly a testament to Clark's prowess in the thriller genre.

"What She Knew" is more than just a domestic suspense—it's a poignant exploration of trust, love, and the lengths one would go to uncover the truth. Clark’s storytelling prowess shines bright, making this a must-read for anyone seeking a deep, thrilling, and emotionally charged story.

I enjoyed the story line 100%. However, i literally wrote in my notes on my phone who i thought killed emma when i'd read 20% of the book. Turns out everything i wrote down was correct which i was gutted about. I was waiting for a big twist something that i wasn't expecting but it all seemed a bit meh 🤷‍♀️

This was another book I couldn’t put down. I didn’t know I liked thrillers until earlier this year, but if they’re done right, they absolutely live up to their name and thrill you to the bone. The good ones – like this one – make it hard to pull yourself away and justify every one of those book memes you see about “just one more chaptering” yourself into the wee hours of the morning.

There was a constant refrain in this book where the main male character, Tom, kept asking his wife what was going on, and I was echoing him – what is going on? This was a twisty, confusing read, but in a completely enjoyable read. I’ve read several thrillers recently where I didn’t like the characters, but I really liked all of the characters. Everyone was so nice and pleasant, and it only made the jarring circumstances that more confusing.

The beautiful characterization of this lovely, middle-class, seemingly normal family made the perfect backdrop for this story. And, really, I think the idea that we don’t know our loved ones as well as we think is something that terrifies many of us. The idea that we could be living with a serial killer or our spouse could be living a double life haunts the deep recesses of many of our minds. It most certainly fuels many novelists’ creativity I’m sure.

Even in moments of rest, which did exist in the storyline, the author managed to keep the story going and keep me on the edge of my seat. Something was deliciously wrong, and I needed to know what it was. The general sense of unease and uncertainty, even before anything major had happened, was so well done. The read was atmospheric in a different way than the word normally implies. Instead of making me feel lost within the rolling hills of an English countryside, instead, I felt the emotional discomfort of the characters in the story.

Who’s It For?
If you love a good psychological thriller with twists at every turn, this is a great read for you. I was able to guess the major twist, but I am better than average at foreshadowing. It also didn’t take my enjoyment away, because the journey was still amazing.

Content Warning: There are several subjects in this book that more sensitive readers may find disturbing including, but not limited to, murder, death, fire, infidelity, adult situations, adult language, alcohol abuse, suicide, and more.

Tom and Amy Pearce have built what they thought was a perfect life, they were deeply in love, a loving marriage, a beautiful daughter, fulfilling careers and a comfortable home. Their daughter is studying at university as well. So their lives are complete.

When Tom speaks to his daughter, she requests something that is packed away up in the loft. When he goes up there, he finds the item he went for but he accidentally knocks over another box where everything tips out. He packs everything back in the box neatly but then he finds his sister Emma’s mobile phone amongst the items which is strange as the box belongs to Amy and it’s hardly damaged. Emma died in a fire. So he took it downstairs with him. Amy tried to explain that Emma left the mobile phone on the breakfast bar on the night of the BBQ when she got a taxi home. There just hadn’t been a right moment to tell him about it, what with the fire and grieving and everything.

One evening, Tom noticed a man standing there watching and waiting, wearing a black hoody with the hood up even though it was sunny and hot. He shouted something when Amy arrived home, he then crossed the road and came up to the gates as she closed them so he was speaking to her. Tom saw that Amy had turned pale and was shaking. Tom raced down there although he was only wearing a towel. The man left as Tom arrived. Tom quizzed Amy but she wouldn’t say what the man wanted, she couldn’t.

What did the man want with Amy? Why wouldn’t Amy tell Tom about it? Has she done something she doesn’t want him to know about?

This is a great book to read and I got into it straightaway. The plot is intriguing and it is woven into a good storyline that keeps you hooked until the end. Amy is determined that she won’t tell Tom what is going on and he calls her a liar. He doesn’t like the fact she is keeping stuff from him. A great psychological story from Dan Clark that is well worth a read.

What She Knew by Dan Clark

Genre: Thriller

A thriller that will keep you guessing!

Tom and Amy had a daughter called Holly who was a university student in Essex. Holly birthday was coming soon. Tom and Amy decided to go to Essex to celebrate with their daughter.

On the same of Holly’s birthday was also the day that Emma, Tom’s sister, was killed in a fire. Tom accidentally found Emma’s phone at their attic….but why his beloved sister’s phone was there?

Tom found his wife was suspiciously talking to a man outside their house, but Amy refused to tell Tom who he was. The next day, Amy was speaking on a phone in 2 am. She looked frightened. She rather threw the phone away instead of telling Tom who she was talking to…

Tom didn’t trust his wife. Too many hidings, too many secrets.

The story plot was enjoyable. I was hooked into the story from the first page. It kept me guessing. The big twist at the end was jaw-dropping.

The characters were well-written. First I empathized Billy (who was Emma’s neighbor)the most, but then I totally empathized Tom. Billy was a nerd but he loved Emma. Emma was beautiful and who’s willing to talk to him. On the other hand, Tom had suffered a lot. He lost his sister, lost trust and lost the most important thing in his life.

Many thanks to @lovebookstours and @dan_clark100 for this unputdownable thriller!

I've been a big fan of Dan's books from when he first released The Boy In The Well.

Amy and Tom have been together for over twenty three years and a have a wonderful daughter Holly who has moved away to university.
They share everything together and are still very much in love.

Of course they have had tragedy in their lives, especially when Tom's youngest sister Emma perished in an accidental fire at her home.

Tom still blames himself for the night Emma died as she was at their house for a party and he sent her home in a taxi very worse for wear.
He keeps thinking that if Emma had stayed at their house then she would still be alive today.

Coming up to the the anniversary on Emma's death ,both Amy and Tom decided to take a week off work at spend some quality time together and also visit their daughter for her birthday.
But one evening Tom noticed a man watching their house and when Amy arrived home the man walked over to her and obviously said something to Amy that upset her greatly, after rushing outside to confront the man he took off before Tom could confront him but Amy was extremely upset but wouldn't tell Tom why.

As the story unfolds you will find that someone is keeping a terrible secret that could break the family apart.

Brilliantly written with a fantastic twist at the end.

Ahhh Dan you have done it again… completely hooked from the first page. It’s currently 2am but I just had to finish this book tonight. I had to know how it ended, and I wasn’t disappointed. I am very honoured to have read all of Dan Clark’s books before they come out and always get very excited when I see he’s writing again.

This rollercoaster of a book is being released on the 26th of August, available to preorder now for only 99p!!!

Tom thought he knew everything about this loving wife Amy, they have a great life and a beautiful daughter Holly. But after Tom finding his dead little sisters phone hidden in the attic, his life starts to unravel. Emma died a year ago in a house fire, she had been drinking, lit some candles, took a tumble and unfortunately the candles took the house up in flames…. So why was her phone hidden in the attic, and who is this hooded man following his wife. It’s not until he overhears a conversation between Amy and an unknown caller that he grows suspicious that something isn’t right. Who is she talking to, why are they talking about Emma and how they should have destroyed her phone.

Soon Amy goes into a rage and disappears leaving Tom alone, confused and frustrated as he try’s to put all the pieces together but sometimes the truth hurts and ignorance is bliss.

What She Knew.
By Dan Clark.

The Synopsis:

"He thought he knew everything about his wife...He was wrong!

Tom and Amy Pearce have built a seemingly perfect life - a loving marriage, a beautiful daughter, fulfilling careers, and a comfortable home. They couldn't ask for more. So why is Amy hiding something?"

The Review:

A big thank you to @netgalley for giving me a free copy of this e-book!!

This book was a fast read that was thoroughly enjoyable! The main characters, Tom and Amy, were your everyday run-of-the-mill, likable couple. The author did a great job creating characters throughout this story who were endearingly relatable for the reader.

I want to be very careful not to give away any spoilers, so it's difficult to say a lot about the storyline. As I read, it felt like the mystery was solved fairly early on. And yet it seemed like there were still too many pages left in the book. Little did I know, the author had plenty of twists and turns ahead for the readers. I really do want to save the surprises for you if you've not yet read this, so I won't say more... But I really do recommend this book if you're looking for a fast-paced, suspenseful, quick story to read in one sitting.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Tom and Amy are happily married and head to Essex to visit their 20 year old daughter at college to celebrate her birthday. Before they leave, their daughter asks them to grab a dvd player from the attic and bring it with them. While Tom is searching for the dvd, he finds his late sister Emma's phone in the attic. But how can that be when she died in a house fire a year ago? Her phone should have been lost in the fire too. Then Amy starts acting strange during their trip to Essex and Tom knows she is hiding something but he doesn't know what.

I liked this book and it was a very quick read. I read so many 5 star reviews and comparisons to two of my absolute favorite authors, Harlan Coben and Linwood Barclay, that my expectations may have been too high. But, I think this author has a lot of promise as an author of domestic thrillers and one of my favorite plots involves someone keeping secrets, so I will read more from this author. I just don't think it was as meaty and twisty as the works of the aforementioned authors, but still a good read.

The author of this book Dan, very kindly sent me a copy to review!! And wow it was sooo good!! The book centres around a family, with parents Tom and Amy and their adult daughter Holly. A year ago Tom’s sister Emma tragically died in a house fire unexpectedly. But fast forward a year and Holly has started uni, Tom goes into the attic to get some items and he discovers Emma’s phone. The one of which she should’ve had with her during the fire. Tom tries to laugh it off but Amy starts acting oddly, leading Tom to have more questions over what is Amy hiding!! This was such a fast paced and really enjoyable thriller!! I must’ve read the entire thing in about 3 hours, which is obviously such a great sign. I didn’t put it down once. From chapter 1 I was so intrigued into the storyline and what actually happened. A couple of times I was completely adamant I knew the twist, and then the story completely flipped leaving me unsure of anything I already knew!
His other books are defo on my TBR now! Would highly recommend giving this one a go!

A good psychological family drama about Tom and Amy Pearce. Happily married for 23 years with a daughter Holly who is away at university. There has been tragedy in their lives but they are dealing with it and their lives are good until… This was quite a quick and easy read and very enjoyable. Tom is a good character a family man who is determined to find out the truth and to do right by his family but how far will that loyalty go?

Briefly, when Tom finds his dead sister’s mobile phone in their loft Amy explains it away. But then a mysterious telephone call when they are visiting Holly, and an unknown man watching the house and arguing with Amy, lead Tom to think there is something else going on.

Fast paced this was a real page turner and I read it in one sitting. I thought I had guessed the big twist fairly early on but there were a few shock reveals thrown into the mix. An entertaining read.

📖First off, thank you to @dan_clark100 for providing a copy of his book and I am voluntarily leaving my review! 😊

📖This was my first book I’ve read by this author and it definitely won’t be my last. “What She Knew” kept me on my toes and I really enjoyed this storyline. Tom and Amy Pearce have had a great marriage and life, and a loving daughter whose off at college. Tom has been with his wife so many years and thinks he knows everything about her, until something changes that. Tom witnesses an encounter with his wife and a mysterious stranger and things just spiral from that point on. Tom is desperate for answers and confronts his wife only to be met with evasiveness and distance. As Tom starts to delve further into the situation, he realizes he may not know his wife at all. Like I said I enjoyed this storyline and the twists and turns throughout. I would definitely recommend checking this one out! 👌🏼

Tom and Amy have an idyllic life. Nice house, good job and their only child Holly, is settled at college. But when Tom finds something belonging to his dead sister hidden in a box in their loft, his life quickly plummets into a nightmare. His wife’s secret phone calls. A strange man visiting the house. Amy’s erratic behaviour. Just what exactly does his wife know about his sisters death? And what is she hiding?

This is my first Dan Clark book and I really enjoyed it. It’s fast paced with a shocking ending. I really liked that there were only a few characters as it made it easier to follow, although Tom and Amy irritated me several times through out with their behaviour, she acting so erratic and him ignoring her red flags, but it does make you question what would you do in this situation? Would you believe everything your spouse tells you?

Overall I found it a good thought-provoking thriller with an unexpected dark ending.

What would you do if you caught your amazing, amazing, trustworthy significant other of 20+ years (who’s always been a good person) in a web of lies? What if those lies had to do with the deal of a sibling? Would you trust that there was a reason for the secret keeping? Would you become suspicious?

This is the jist of what What She Knew is about. A husband finds his wife entangled in a web of lies, lies that have to do with the death of his little sister, and he begins to wonder if he knows his wife at all. The story follows him as he follows her, investigating and trying to find out the truth.

I will say that I figured out what was going on about half way through the book, so to me the answer was obvious. It may not be to you though, and even though I “knew” what was going on, the suspense and intrigue kept me going.

For fans of mysteries and thrillers, this is a must read.
