I always love a good prologue but when this one ended, I almost yelled at my kindle because I wanted to know what was found when the prologue ended, and then the story began and I knew I had to be patient for the rest of the story about what was found. The more I learn about Driverton, I love the town even more than I did before. I liked our trio of characters, Katie, Levi, and Ollie, who are being trained by Bradford to be part of ‘the business.’ However, feelings are coming to the front for Katie and Levi who are definitely ‘flirting’ in this book and Ollie being who he is isn’t having it. Unfortunately, when Ollie has a little bit of a back slide, he confides in Levi who gets him help in the form of Bradford and Ollie makes it clear that they need to be friends and that’s it. I appreciated the fact that Levi and Katie have known each other so long that she knew by his body language and his tells that he wasn’t being upfront with Ollie’s new opportunity, but I also appreciated that she didn’t push it. This story to me was a little more serious in tone than the previous book. We saw Katie’s relationship with her parents which was interesting, and Levi grew up in a not-so-great family. Both Katie and Levi have made mistakes in the past, but they are trying to make better lives for themselves. When Ollie leaves for training out of town, the feelings that Katie and Levi have boil over and of course one thing leads to another and a kiss leads to a whole lot more. I know that Levi was having issues with wanting to pursue things with Katie, but I feel like Bradford helped him figure things out. When Bradford broaches the subject of Levi’s parents and he finds out that he knows where they are at and then more comes out on that, I was a tad worried what he might do. Katie, however, was there for him and with Bradford’s help went out of town to deal with that situation. I have to say when they got on the plane and Alethea (who I loved) started making her cryptic comments, I honestly thought for a minute that Katie and Levi had gotten involved in something way over their heads, glad that I was wrong about that. When we do find out the details about Levi’s parents all I could think about is the saying ‘what a tangled web we weave.’ Ultimately, I hope that Levi decides to make peace with that situation and maybe keep part of what he was given. I was also concerned with that conversation at the end between Clay and Bradford, but I believe they don’t have to worry about Driverton being outed so to speak. I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait for Ollie’s book next.
