Deborah is the author of over a dozen non-fiction books on modern witchcraft and a tarot and oracle decks from Llewellyn. Her fiction includes the Baba Yaga series, The Broken Rider series, and the Veiled Magic series, and her cozy mysteries The Catskill Pet Rescue series (mostly from Berkley) as well as a few stand-alone novels.
Deborah lives in a 130 year old farmhouse in upstate NY with multiple cats. She believes in magic, laughter, chocolate, and wine. The order may change depending on the day.
This is a light-hearted, yet serious look at Wiccan rituals throughout the year. With the help of Deborah's cat, each month is broken down into rites appropriate for that month as well as specific holidays. The directions are simple enough for the neophyte, yet can also be adapted for the experienced practioner and group rites.
Why use rituals? Accoring to Deborah, rituals are a way to help us focus energy and put us in the right mindset. They create comfortable patterns. And she's right, and not just about Wicca. Think about any belief system and there are rituals to be followed.
In this book, she breaks down each ritual to its simplest form, outlines the tools and supplies as well as the steps needed to perform each one, whether as an idividual or in a group. She also stresses the rules needed for groups and the timing of each one.
In addition to monthly rituals, she includes rites for Imbolc, Ostara, Beltane, the solstices, Lammas and Samhain as well as rituals for handfasting, birth and death and more. Each one is detailed and easy to follow.
I'd recommend this book for anyone who is either interested in Wicca or is already a practioner. Definitely a keeper.

This book has some very meaningful rituals within, not just for the sabbats and the moons, but also for life in its various stages. Very useful for the practitioner for the whole year round and can be altered as needed whether for solitary use or for a group and some of the rituals can be performed at anytime needed not just at the designated month. Plus there are some fun and useful tips from Magic the Cat at the end of each rite.
I read the first part of the book and skimmed the rest once it got into the rituals. I checked this book of the library and I think it’s one I will probably buy as it gives good instructions for how to set up and do rituals. I have yet to come across another source with as much detail about that. It does have a Wicca focus but is easily modified for other paths.
Very interesting. I wasn't a fan of all the deity stuff and I wish she would have provided an alternative to this, but overall it was nice to try. I really liked that she briefly touched on familiars.
Simple rituals for the witch starting out. Some of the new/full moon rituals didn't make sense for the month Blake put them in but as with anything dealing with witchcraft, you can always change things to suit what works best for you.
The keyword in the title is EVERYDAY. If you believe in something, you should make it a part of your daily life. Deborah Blake's 'witch next door' approach is full of warmth and humor... exactly who she is. Deborah stays true to herself in every one of her books, providing something for everyone because she realizes not everyone believes the same, or thinks the same.
I own this (and every one) book by the talented Deborah Blake and look forward to more.
This is a wonderful book. It is the first place I go when looking for inspiration for a New or Full Moon ritual. Deborah has a wonderful writing style that makes you feel like you're sitting down with a girlfriend and discussing these things over a cup of tea rather than just reading a book. And Magick the Cat has some wonderful insights as well.
