The Awakening

They were the latest weaponry—cyborg soldiers—a melding of robotics and biological materials conceived to integrate them with their human counterparts--except they were scary-big and so powerful they were capable of destruction no human was. And they attained awareness and went rogue.

If I remember correctly, the first time I watch someone that resembles a cyborg was in the film Robocop in 1987. The poor guy was not very happy when he became half robot.
Then later on, I watched Data in Star Trek. He was more interesting. He was really impenetrable in the beginning (in a funny kind of way) and later on he tried so hard to develop feelings and act more as a human.
And let's not forget the incredibly movie "I,robot", which was based on a short story by Isaac Asimov.

I like cyborgs or humanoid robots or intelligent machine that may or may not have human cells. I particularly like them in sci-fi romance.

In this series, cyborgs are soldiers and they are supposed to obey all the time their human superior. BUT when they reach the planet of their enemy Andorians something goes wrong. Cyborgs do not behave the same any more. They feel pain, fear, lust and when the human orders are stupid, they simply ignore them

"Too bad you weren't programmed with any damned tact or manners."
A flush mounted his cheeks. She couldn't tell if it was from discomfort or anger, though.
"Yes, that is a pity. Mayhap I can learn those things from you?"
"You're good at sarcasm, at least."
That seemed to take him aback.
"I am?"

My little geeky self who is also thirsty for romance, really enjoyed this story 🤓

What an Amazing Cyborg Adventure!
It's a Sci-Fi Lover's Wet Dream!!!

Seth CO1543
Seth CO1543

We are at war with another planet. Our best, strongest, soldiers are our Cyborgs. They are humans that have been genetically enhanced with nanos to help them regenerate. They also have CPU boards that function like a computer. They follow orders without question and will do anything to protect their human teammates.

Dane

Dane

But something goes terribly wrong. Instead of recognizing damage, they start to feel pain. They no longer follow orders yet they are determined to live. The borgs have become self aware. They have awakened. And they refuse to die by the hands of incompetent human soldiers.

Niles

Niles

Danika

danika

Danika is in charge of a team of Cyborgs: Seth, Dane, and Niles. She is noticing that they are making decisions and ensuring her safety at all costs. Seth even blushed when she caught him staring at her. Her cyborgs are beautiful, muscular soldiers that are designed to be the perfect male specimen. She shouldn't be attracted to them, but Dammit, they are starting to act like men.

description

The Awakening is an action packed adventure that made the Sci-Fi lover in me giddy with pleasure. There is space travel and laser gun fights. The world building was Amazing!! I loved the war battle scenes and the effects the war had on the human officers. The Cyborgs are wonderful and they are so loving and caring. Emotions are new to them and they are all the more intense because of it.

I hated to have to go to work cause it interfered with my reading time. I have awoken with my Nook laying on my chest from trying to read just one more page. I loved how the Cyborgs were so analytical yet emotionally insecure. Though there was a love story hidden in this book. I find it hard to classify it as a Sci-Fi Romance. It was more of a Sci-Fi Action book with a touch of romance. This is a multiple relationship book, but there were no menage scenes. Each Cyborg had his own special relationship and special time with Danika.

This was a Wonderful introduction to the series and I am already jonesing to read book two of the Cyborevolution, Total Recall

This book was one of the most boring books I've ever read.

Also, I hate erotica and should know better than to pick up any book labeled 'erotica.' It never sits well with me and it's always a bad idea.

Not that this book sickened me. It just bored me. Very boring - avoid at all costs.

2/5; 2 stars; C

This is one of those books that I would give a four star rating for the first 100 pages and a 1 for the last 100 pages. It is worth reading if you want background info on the cyborg nation, how they came about, and how they got out into space. The first part of the story was a pretty good 'stranded on another planet and making the best of things despite murder and mayhem' kind of story. The last half was worse than reading about a kindergarten class where all the boys are injected with massive doses of testosterone, and everyone gets high on PCP. Seriously, it was weird. I was wondering if there were two authors.

Because I'm an optimist and a couple of my trusted GR friends like this series, I will try the next one and hope for the best.

2.5 Stars

The cyborgs were the latest in human weaponry, only now they are becoming self aware. Seth, Dane and Niles are part of one unit, as well as their human handler Danika, but things soon start to change when they realise that they are changing. Becoming aware of things they never noticed before, including the feelings they have for Danika...but it couldn't have come at a worst time. Stranded on a freezing cold planet with little to no resources, Seth, Dane and Nile's know one thing, they must protect Danika.

What's better than one cyborg? Three cyborgs. And that's exactly what Kaitlyn O'Connor offers us in the first of her Cyberevolution series. Three sexy cyborgs, newly aware of themselves and their emotions ready to start a new life away from their human creators. Especially if that new life has Danika in it. I was fully expecting to love this book, it has all the elements that I normally love, but I found that this book didn't quite hit the right chords for me.

It took a while for the book to get going, and the first few chapters were the same scene yet from different points of views and I found it a little...boring. But, I continued not wanting to give up, however, although it did pick up a bit, unfortunately I found the whole book very slow and the romance was very half hearted.

It felt like O'Connor wouldn't decide whether she wanted to write a fun romance or a more serious sci fi, so she tried to do both and the two elements didn't mix together very well. The general story and sci-fi elements weren't quite in depth or interesting enough to hold the book by itself and romance was a little off. I felt like Danika had sex with her cyborgs because she felt she had to, or as part of a team bonding exercise rather than because she had that kind of attraction towards them. It felt a little weird and forced.

There were some funny parts in this, but they felt incongruous with other elements in the book, not that serious books can't have a little humour, but it just didn't fit correctly for me. I also liked all the characters individually, however, this isn't enough for me to continue with this series.

It's a little odd to go into a book advertised as sci-fi romance and actually end up reading a sci-fi, military, adventure-survival pulp about friendship and AI sentience, but the writing is damn funny, the characters are all charming, and the plot moves along at a well defined, yet brisk pace, so I wasn't disappointed at all. There a couple of tame, summarized sex scenes, but, by and large, I would describe the heroine's relationship with the cyborgs as one of comradery rather than romantic. The ending was a little rushed and unsentimental, but again, I had accepted by that point that this was more of an action-adventure pulp.

According to the reviews of the sequels, the heat level and romantic elements increase, but I'm wondering if that will be good for the natural style of the author or not. Either way, I plan to read more of the series.

Good story to explain the beginning of the cyborg's awakening.
However, I didn't like the way the book ends. You stay hungry about what could happen. It was not enough for me.
And I didn't like the name of Niles becoming Nigel. WTF ?

I hope there will be another book with more erotica inside and a HEA more efficient, because I really like those cyborg.

I should probably give this 3 stars but I enjoyed it so much. As other reviewers have mentioned the book is inconsistent with the first half being the truly enjoyable part- but the humor alone of the cyborgs becoming cognizant is worth that extra star from me! I love my cheesy campy science fiction slanted fun and this is it.

2.5/5 -- rounding up to 3 because I really liked Dane and could have definitely handled some more of him! I am definitely a Cyborg fan, and read my first Kaitlyn O'Connor Cyborg book years ago, so it was fun to revisit this world and see the 'beginning' of this story. The story itself was pretty good, but I didn't find this installment/prequel to be particularly well-written or well developed. I thought Danika had promise but the complete and utter lack of romance seemed sterile. Also, the sex.... what. It was basically tab a/slot b. With ALL the guys. She definitely captured the essence of how these men 'awakened', and I did think that was well done... however there was WAY too much petty fighting between the 'squad' and Danika was too cold, almost unfeeling and immature acting herself at times.

I walked away not totally hating this but also feeling sort of... meh. If the characters had been developed a little more, if we had seen a bit more of a relationship develop between the five of them as a unit and maybe gotten more than ONE measly sex scene with each guy (seriously?) then this might have gotten more stars from me.

Blergh!

Did not like. It could have had a story, but didn't put out.. It could have had character development, but there was non. It could have had likable protagonists, but it didn't.

Too bad and I was in the mood for hawt cyborg erotica.

Main title at end of bonuses

This sci-fi multi partner cyborg romance was entertaining. There is serious stuff and funny parts. The sex is frenzied and a bit funny.

The bonus books are wide range of genre but most are erotica with heavy bdsm and multiple partners. Some ew factors.

Reverse harem cyborg

The sci-fi romance is a reverse harem with cyborgs. I love cyborgs!

Most of the book is inside the head of the heroine with short viewpoints from the cyborgs. The military situation is terrible and some horrifying things happen. The puberty-like transition of the cyborgs was easy to commiserate with but was also frustrating because of all the brawling. Each sexy time is quick and sparse but you know, virgins.

The cyborgs weren't described well physically so it was difficult for me to tell them apart. Emotionally they were the same.

I am interested in finding out more about the rest of the cyborgs.

Read in KU
There are typos. This being a special edition I expected there to be higher quality editing. The book ends at 88% with samples taking up the end.

Kaitlyn O'Connor is one of my favourite authors of all times. She can write RH without them beeing just about the erotic aspect. You end up loving all of the involved parties and the only bad thing I find in her books is that they have to end. I have read everything I find by this amazing author and I can't wait for the next book or series. It's just like Christmas when one comes out. Then I get so caught in the new book that I devour it... and then its waiting time again.

Cyberevolution was a delight to read. I completed the whole series and every single one of them was a treasure, I enjoyed Cyborg Nation (Cyberevolution 6) most of all but I recommend any book written by Kaitlyn O'Connor. And I mean any book.

This book is really the definition of "Ok" neither bad nor good.

- for a military woman with hunting and tacking experience home, she has no guts, and acts like a newbie when she is suppose to be experienced but acts like she never spent a day in the military or outside since she cant walk in different terrain.
-she looks at him, has unsatisfying sex, gets chastised then realizes her selfish mistake
-she always says she wants to punch Seth since he seems to take control, but never does anything about it.

I really could not relate to her, she is to flat and all over the place. and WEAK so all in all a character I hate!

Yay! Another book in the Cyborg series. I had to buy it and read as soon as I saw it tonight. I really enjoyed this one, there are some laugh out loud funny scenes. And I enjoyed how inherently sensible the heroine is.

I wish it were longer, I always want to know ALL the details about the HEA but Ms. O'Connor gives us enough to imagine the rest. Can't wait for the next one.

Great book! I'm so glad there's another Cyborg book. This is a prequel to the series although I think this is the last book written. This starts when the Xeno-12 war was takes place and the cyborgs initially awakened. This is in the same humorous vein as the rest of the series,
so is a must-read for you Kaitlyn O'Connor fans!

Another winner by Kaitlyn O'Connor. I loved this story. I love her cyborgs. My only disappointment is that it ended. I want to read another story set between this one and Total Recall. Or more than one, I am fine with that, too!

This was an easy, entertaining read, but I couldn't give it three stars because of editing problems. Poor flow, little continuity from one chapter to the next and changes in characters names brought my rating down.

Erm, so Seth, Dane and Niles are cyborgs – over 50% machine – and part of a military unit led by human girl, Danika. I found this a bit odd. Danika doesn't seem as physically gifted or as fast mentally as a machine mind so I have no idea why she was in charge of them, but hey, that's the story.

They lose a big battle and get stranded on an alien planet with lots of other humans and cyborgs. Things get a little Lord of the Flies and they all splinter off. The Cyborgs seems to suddenly find 'awareness' and start being more human than machine. Danika ends up satisfying their carnal needs.

So this story was ok. It was quite battle driven and was really mostly about surviving in the aftermath of being stranded on an inhospitable planet. People lose it under the pressure, people steal to survive, lines are drawn between races... etc. I found it a bit depressing. Everyone was wounded, starving and hating on each other. But there was lots of drama which kept the pace going. I just felt a little deflated by the storyline.

I also didn't really feel Danika's connection to the guys. I felt that she was just getting it on with them for convenience. She seemed to like them, but love? I didn't really feel it. Maybe because they were essentially robots who didn't exactly chit chat. How can you get to know someone who has no history and not much to say for themselves? I just felt that the guys were a little flat, they adored her instantly and behaved like lovesick puppies. They fought and bickered over Danika which made them come across as almost childlike. I know they were only just finding out about these emotions but it wasn't a turn on for me. It was funny though in a silly way which entertained me.

I thought it was moderately hot overall. It took a long, long time for any action to take place. And no hot alpha should be named Basil. I mean really...

I might try another in this series, but not for a while.

Great start to the new year with a really enjoyable Cyborg story. Giving it a generous 5-stars because I feel the average 3.59 rating is too low. A number of comments faulted the book editing, one was 'Niles' was also called 'Nigel'. That name did not appear in the 'special edition 2019' that I read and just in case a scanned it for said. It would have put me off with a character named Nigel as it is my ex-husband's name ;) Some criticized that the Cyborgs were juvenile. They sure were! They were men who suddenly had emotions and penis awareness 🤣 and behaved much like young teen-aged boys at times. It made for some good humour in the story.
The book is listed as Ménage but I thought of it more as Polyamorous. Even after looking up definitions, can't say I am any clearer on a 'label'. The is no MFM, no MMF :( The female character only has sex with the male character one at a time. The sex sections are good (almost hot) but there is no 'romance' or wooing (there is foreplay)...remember teen-aged boys, virgin teen-aged boys in men's bodies.
I have already started to read Cyberevolution #2 - Total Recall.

The book started out really good. About half way through the book Danika started getting on my nerves. She was annoying as hell, without any kind of real understanding what was happening to the cyborgs and didn't give them any leeway for their problems. Some reviewers called this an erotica. It's not. There are 4 sex scenes. Only one of them was hot. Every other one was clinical. I also couldn't shake the feeling that she only did it with everyone but Seth to calm them rather than because she really wanted to. I could overlook some questionable logics in the scifi parts (holy grail nanos without any type of negative side effect) but everything relationship wise feeled forced. I also didn't get the feeling that the cyborgs themselves liked the setup of their relationship as a 'squad' with Danika. I'm probably not going to continue this series as I expected the book to turn out differently. I don't mind more than 1 partner in scifi-romance, but not with this type of emotionally lacking setup.
