For years, Mik has wanted nothing more than to put coal in Rudy Snow's stocking.

As former pro hockey players, they’ve been rivals for years. It started in Mik’s rookie season, when a reporter pitted him against his older brother's best friend. Rudy pushes Mik’s buttons like no one else, going out of his way to one-up him at every turn.

Now they manage pubs in a small town that takes Christmas to a level best seen in Hallmark movies, but not much else has changed. They’re still rivals, this time pitting gingerbread martinis against pomegranate sangria.

But when they’re forced to work together to plan a special holiday party, sparks ignite. Maybe it's a bad idea to put coal in Rudy's stocking after all. They both might just catch fire.

Then again, what better way is there to stay warm on a cold winter's night?

Christmas Falls is a multi-author M/M romance series set in a small town that thrives on enough holiday charm to rival any Hallmark movie.

Get Frosted is book three in 2023’s first season of the multi author collective, Christmas Falls. It is written by Amy Aislin. I’ve read a few of Amy’s books now and am becoming such a huge fan. This book was so sweet. I adored the characters and am so in love with this Christmas obsessed town, Christmas Falls, Illinois.

Mik Gilmore is thirty one years old. He grew up in Christmas Falls with his parents and his older by one year brother, Josh. He followed his brother into the NHL, playing for a rival team. After ten years playing hockey, he has retired back home to Christmas Falls helping Josh run their family owned pub.

Rudy Snow is Mik’s brother’s best friend. He played on Josh’s NHL team and has been retired for two and a half years. He followed Josh to Christmas Falls where he now manages the pub across the street from Mik and Josh’s. Rudy spent his life frequently moving from place to place with his parents, and then moving frequently with the NHL. Calling anywhere home is not something he’s used to and is having trouble figuring out what he wants for his future. Can he stay in Christmas Falls and be happy? Or is the road calling to him?

Mik and Rudy have always had a huge rivalry going, starting right out with Mik’s rookie year. The media kept it going strong. Now, working for two separate pubs has also kept them trying to out do each other. But when Mik’s brother needs help coaching a youth hockey team and the responsibility of planning his grandmother’s surprise birthday party falls on Mik, Rudy volunteers to help. Mik starts to see their rivalry in a new light. Could Rudy have been trying to get his attention all these years because he liked him? All it took was one kiss and he had his answer.

These two were absolutely adorable together. Feelings grew fast but Rudy still had to deal with figuring out what he really wanted. If he was ready to stay put or if wandering was in his blood. This is such a feel good, angst free story that made my heart happy. There will definitely be plenty more books in my future by Amy Aislin. I just have to choose what will be first!

Mik and Rudy have been rivals during their whole careers in the NHL. But Rudy is also Josh, Mik's big brother, best friend and former teammate. So after retirement, they all live in the same lovely city and spend time together quite often.
Rudy's got a secret crush for Mik and he believe it's time to do something about that.
They are so adorable and sweet together, I loved how Rudy charmed an astonished Mik, who finally aknowledged to have had feelings for his "frenemy".

A little bit of angst makes the story interesting and a lot of banter make it very amusing (get frosted is actually an insult that Mik throws at Rudy without malice). A lot of great side characters too, especially Gran and Josh.

What prevented me from giving an higher rate:
Sometimes Mik seemed acting like a college guy instead of a 31 former hockey player.

I really enjoyed the atmosphere of this town and I surely keep reading this series.

More festive fun in Christmas Falls

I very much enjoyed this best friend's younger brother romance as it has plenty of humour along with the frenemies vibes.

Christmas Falls is the kinda place where everyone knows everyone, but Rudy's still not sure it's for him, even though he's now lived there longer than anywhere else.

One of the things keeping him in town is Mik, his best friend Josh's younger brother, who he's been attracted to for most of their NHL careers.

What was the sweetest thing about this book was how Rudy began to see that what he'd always thought was a nebulous dream home and future, was actually the one he wanted with Miki.

As these two spend more time together, the old rivalry turns more into banter and good-natured ribbing, until Mik finally wakes up and smells the dirty chai latte.

Lots of good times ensue, there's a brief hiccup around the 80% mark, but no stupid break-up or miscommunication, before it reaches the happy ending.

I love a good Amy Aislin small town romance and Get Frosted was all kinds of small town, holiday sweetness!

Mik Gilmore is a retired professional hockey player who made his way back to his hometown, Christmas Falls, to take over the family bar with his retired pro hockey player brother, Josh. After playing hockey for 10 years, Mik enjoys working at the bar, but isn’t sure that’s all he wants long term. Mik is a little ray of sunshine - he’s goofy, sweet, totally in love with his family and his hometown and has a weird but cute obsession with Bigfoot. The one person who gets under his skin like no one else is his brother’s best friend who keeps popping up in his life.

Rudy Snow is also a retired professional hockey player and is Josh’s best friend. When he retired, he followed Josh back to Christmas Falls with no real plans to stay long term after a childhood and professional life full of moving around. After two years in town, occupying his time by managing another Christmas Falls bar, he’s feeling restless and ready for something new. Rudy’s a bit of a grump but he has a heart of gold and has had a crush on Mik for years, something he’s kept close to the vest.

While I expected more of a rivals to lovers storyline between these two, I loved what they actually were even more - Mik thought they were rivals and Rudy was teasing and pining from afar the whole time. It’s a small town, so it’s inevitable that these two see each other a lot but with them taking over hockey coaching from Josh and handling Mik’s grandma’s surprise party planning, there’s plenty more opportunities for their relationship to grow from rivals/pining into something real. Their relationship is really sweet and fun to read - they work together really well and I loved that Josh was super supportive of them being together because they fit together so perfectly.

Excited to read more stories in Christmas Falls this holiday season!

Get Frosted
by Amy Aislin is a part of the Christmas Falls multi author shared series.

Mik has been in a rivalry with his brother's best friend Rudy since they were pro hockey players. Now both retired, Mik still tries to one up Rudy any chance he can get. This Christmas season, Rudy has decided to finally tell Mik that he's been crushing on him for a long while now. Yet Rudy has a job offer that would take him away from Christmas Falls and he's starting to get itchy from being in one place too long. Mik has to prove to him that everything Rudy needs is right here if he'll own hold on to it.

"Goodnight, Miki."
"Why do you call me that? Mik asked softly. "No one else does."
"Maybe that's why,' Rudy admitted. "Maybe it's so I can have a part of you no one else has."

This is a sweet, low angst holiday romance. Small town holiday goodness with the brothers best friend trope, frenemies to lovers, mild steam, family, hockey, party planning, dirty chai lattes, big foot, and finding your dream home.

This is now my absolutely favourite story by this author. Everything about it was fantastic. The tension and chemistry, the spice, the town and the side characters, great low-angst but not too easy! I’ve read a few in this multi-author series and this one is my favourite but I loved seeing some of the other couples around as well!

I loved watching Rudy and Mik’s relationship grow. It was one of those enemies to lovers where they both actually secretly like the other one and their “fighting” was actually flirting and I was all here for it. I loved these two together and that Rudy finally found his home in Mik!

This can absolutely be read as a standalone so whether you’ve read others in this series or anything by this author before or not I highly recommend this story! I really hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Sometimes I wonder, whenever I read romance where the main character claim that they have restless feet and unable to put down root, whether that's actually a thing. I mean, I do love travel when I can. I also experience great roadtrips with my parents and finding new places along the way. But the idea of NOT coming home? Never happen

So Rudy doesn't know how to stay when he CLEARLY has so much feelings for Mik feels false. Especially when this is THE ONLY conflict they have; everything else (despite the claim of being frienemies during their hockey years) come easy.

But I enjoyed everything else about this - most of all the joy and delight of friends and family members in the town where everything is Christmas-sy.

Thank you so much to Sirius from Goodreads 2023 Secret Santa Event for this gift

Ok, this was pretty good. I always like a good enemies-to-lovers trope, although the "enemies" here is stretching it a bit. More like "frenemies," or guys who liked to trash talk each other. Mik and Rudy were really cute together, and I liked their banter which was flirty and humorous.

It's yet another "will they stay in Christmas Falls" theme, but I liked how it wasn't overly dramatic. The author allowed Rudy to grow into his realizations in a non-forced way, and it was a nice revelation to the reader, as well.

I'd love to read more about Mik and Rudy!

Another wonderful book in the Christmas Falls series, this time by one of my favourite authors. Amy always manages to write beautiful stories and this one was amazing.
Mik and Rudy have known each other for years, they've never got along and they've always been rivals. Rudy is Mik's brother's best friend so they have spent time together throughout the years not liking each other. But now they are both retired from ice hockey, both living in Christmas Falls and both managing different pubs in town. It's inevitable they come across each other, mostly because Mik's brother, Josh, lives there too so Josh and Rudy get together and Mik can't escape to see Rudy often.
How much I loved this book!!! Mik and Rudy's banter was wonderful, there wasn't a proper rivalry between them, it was obvious to everyone except themselves so their moments together were great. They just got on so well and they didn't even realise it! I enjoyed seeing how Mik got to know Rudy better and how his feelings started to change eventually, although the truth was that the feelings had been there all along. Rudy already knew everything about Mik and that was very sweet and swoony, he cared so much for Mik and it was so romantic that it made me sigh several times.
I liked Rudy very much, he decided enough was enough and that it was time to let Mik know about his feelings. His long crush on the other guy was very touching and I loved their moments together. Also, the Christmas vibes from the town made a beautiful setting.
There were a couple of difficult moments in the story, but they got resolved quickly. This was a low angst story and I just love how Amy writes beautiful novels where the MCs have or go through some issues, but it feels like something any of us could go through, it's realistic but not overly dramatic.
Like I said, this is another wonderful book in this series and I recommend it as it's a lovely, easy read that left me with a warm heart and a big smile on my face.

4.5 ⭐️

- brother’s best friend
- former rivals
- frenemies to lovers

Mik and his older brother’s best friend Rudy have spent the last decade in the NHL as rivals, always trying to one up each other on and off the ice.

Now both retired and living in Christmas Falls, not much has changed. Until they do, and Mik and Rudy must work together in order to help make things easier for Josh .

These two oblivious nerds have failed to see what’s been right under their noses all these years, and working together finally brings their chemistry and feelings to light.

Honestly, this has been my favorite of the series so far. I loved the banter and shenanigans these two got up to, and was surprised out how emotional their story got me.

I love Christmas books, will read them all year round. Same with Christmas movies, as there is never enough time to watch them.

And add in hockey players - heck yes, let me at it!

I adored Mik and Rudy. I loved how they just.. are. There is no silly miscommunications (other than that for the past decade, their pranking has been foreplay all along!).

Now, I haven't read any of the other books in the Christmas Falls world (yet - but I will, and yay for them being in KU, what a Christmas gift that is) but that is OK, as we get to know the locals enough in Get Frosted, and it only makes me more excited to read the other books.

Frememies. Friends. Lovers.

That's what Mik and Rudy are, and I couldn't get enough of them.

Now, this Aussie wants to move to Christmas Falls and befriend everyone.

Amy Aislin's christmas stories always fill me up with warmth. Get Frosted is another great example of that.
I'm also obsessed with the shared universe of Christmas Falls and will definitely read more of the series by the other authors.

In this book, we get the sugary sweet and heartwarming story of Mik and Rudy. They have been hockey rivals in the NHL, and now they are rivals as pub manager's in the winter holiday obsessed little town of Christmas Falls. It's quite obvious from the start, though, that the rivalry actually hides deep affection and attraction on both men's side.
Mik and Rudy team up to plan a party together and coach a hockey team to help out Mik's brother, Josh, who's also Rudy's best friend.
They spend fun Christmas preparation time together and let their feelings free.

I loved the vibes of this story. Just like a small town holiday romance movie, it brings cheer and holiday spirit while dazzling us with a sweet romance.
Mik instantly became my favourite with his larger than life personality and silly humour and eclectic taste in christmas decoration. He's sweet and caring while also being goofy and loveable. Having been living as Josh Gilmore's little brother forever, it's not easy for him to stand out and find his own thing. It was nice to watch him find a way to be truly himself.
My heart also instantly went out for Rudy. He's grown up moving around, never knowing permanence, and he doesn't know how to settle down. He's itching to move, and when a job offer comes along, he thinks he's ready. But leaving Mik and Josh and the town is harder than he thinks. He's struggling to figure out what he wants is heartbreaking, and I shed a few tears for him.

The funnest part of the book is definitely all the christmas activities. Holiday shopping, christmas trivia night, cranberry cocktails, and christmas decorations. If the holiday vibes haven't caught you yet, they will definitely come after reading this book.

The town, the people, Mik and Rudy's family are just the cherry at top.

Reading this was so much fun!

4.5 stars.

I went back and forth on my rating for this book. On one hand, it's a very good book. On the other, the constant 'Will he leave or won't he?' and 'I'm antsy because I've been here too long,' by Rudy got extremely tiring. While I understand where the author was going with Rudy - and I need to stress that everything worked out beautifully in the end - I also found myself more frustrated than not when Rudy was on page. I decided to go with 4.5 stars because of the way everything did come together later.

I'm a big fan of enemies-to-lovers books. I normally avoid sports books like the plague, which is strange because I’m a huge sports fan in the real world. While I’ve read some good ones over the years, they tend to not work for me. I think Get Frosted worked because the characters were all retired. Not sure I’d have been eager to read it otherwise.

Overall, a very nice story by an author I don't think I'd ever read before. I'm still loving Christmas Falls and its residents. This has been a really nice series so far.

3.5 rounded up

By far my favorite in this multi-author series so far. The best written and my favorite characters. I absolutely loved Mik & Rudy together. I even liked the side characters !

Having said that- I didn’t get to enjoy this book as much as I would have liked. I was stressed the whole time and while I adored Mik and Rudy’s relationship, I hated that Rudy took so long to tell Mik about his potential job in a different state, I wish that was resolved A LOT sooner rather than the very end so that the rest of the story could’ve felt light and sweet.

Let me begin by saying if Amy Aislin writes hockey players - even former hockey players - I’ll read it. I love her Stick Side series and its spinoff Vancouver Orcas, so I was excited to get my hands on her entry in this new, multi-author, holiday series.

Get Frosted brings us the super sweet, rivals to lovers story of Mik and Rudy, two former NHL players managing rival pubs in the holiday-obsessed town of Christmas Falls. I cannot imagine a more festive place — it reminds me of when I realized Santa Claus, Indiana, is real. This small town takes great pride in going all out for the Christmas season with every event, decoration, and activity imaginable, and the local pubs, Frosty’s & Rudy’s, are part of the action.

I wondered if we’d get a good sense of the intensity behind Mik and Rudy’s rivalry since they’re no longer playing, but the set up is terrific. Aislin gives a colorful recap that captures every bit of animosity and emotion between them. It’s not until further into the story that we learn just how thin the line between love and hate truly is, as their unexpected attraction ignites a slow burn that roars to a sudden inferno.

This story brings with it an emotional depth that’s unsurprising but which I also didn’t anticipate. While the budding friendship and romance between Mik and Rudy has its entanglements, it’s about much more than that. For many, the holidays are a time to reflect on the people and places they hold dear, and the same is true here, adding a layer of complication to an already fragile situation.

I highly recommend this book for anyone in the mood for holiday romance. It’s a fun story full of friendly competition and holiday happenings. I can’t wait to get lost in more of Christmas Falls!

I love small town romances and when Christmas is included, even better.
Mik and Rudy are rivals from the ice hockey rink to the pubs where they work after retirement.
But doesn't this rivalry have something else behind it? When they decide to organize Mik's grandmother's birthday together, something comes up between them, but Rudy has always been an adventurer when he accompanied his nomad parents and doesn't know how to stay.
Highly recommended

Okay, this was what I would consider a fun, sweet with a bit of snark, low-angst holiday romance. It’s also got a touch of hockey in there as well, plus the rivals-to-lovers aspect to keep things interesting. Though I’d probably classify their rivalry as more friendly and teasing ;-)

Mik and Rudy were excellent characters, I really liked them both and would never be able to pick a favorite between them. They’re the perfect duo to develop from a long-time sorta friendship into more, and they go together so well. The rivalry between them when they were playing hockey spills over a little into their holiday decorating, which makes for some fun exchanges as Mik’s competitive streak rears its head, Particularly when you add his Bigfoot obsession to that.

Most of the story is relatively lighthearted, though Rudy does have some things to work out for himself. When he was younger he lived a pretty nomadic life with his parents, so he does need to reconcile this with what he wants for his life.

Get Frosted was a great story, and I’m giving it 4.5 stars. It’s one of those holiday stories that will make you smile, and I’d even say it’s a feel-good holiday romance. Mik and Rudy’s intimate scenes do make this a book for readers 18+.

Ah, I loved this Christmas story so much and it definitely made me want to live in Christmas Falls. It is a low angst brother's best friend romance. Retired hockey players Mik and Rudy were always rivals on the ice and liked nothing more than riling each up and that hasn't stopped now they have retired but they are clearly attracted to each other. Mik runs a family pub with his older brother and Rudy is a manager at a different pub. Rudy is determined to win Mik over though. When Rudy helps Mik plan his Nan's birthday they grow closer and inevitably fall into bed together, however as they are falling in love, Rudy gets more restless. He has never been in a place for long so he has to make a decision if Mik is enough for him to stay. This was such a heartwarming story full of banter, joy, chemistry and family.

Another awesome book in the “Christmas Falls” multi-authors series. This one was by Amy Aislin. I absolutely loved the enemies to lovers trope in this one. The rivalry was between two ex-hockey players who loved to push each other’s buttons while they were playing hockey. That carried over to working for rival pubs and to the Christmas Lights rivalry in this Christmas Town. Can’t wait to read the rest of the books in the series. I’d give this one 5 stars!

The story focuses on Mik, a former hockey player who has forever been under his older brother’s shadow. He would always be referred to as Josh’s younger brother no matter his achievements would be. Whenever Rudy does, Mik would always try to up the ante. It drove Rudy crazy as well. Mik runs the family pub.

Rudy, another hockey player who happens to be Josh’s best friend manages the rival pub and loves to provoke Mik in however he could! When Josh’s wife was diagnosed with preeclampsia and was ordered on bed rest, it left Josh to shoulder almost everything which stressed him out. He was able to get Mik and Ryan to help plan Mik’s grandmother’s birthday bash in addition to taking over the hockey club for kids. It forced Mik and Ryan into close proximity. Did that lead to something? That’s for you to pick up the book and read to find out! A wonderful reading!

Get Frosted by Amy Aislin was my first from this author. Mik Gilmore and Rudy Snow were hockey rivals who now live in the same town and run rival bars. Rudy is also best friends with Mik’s brother, Josh. I completely understood Mik’s dislike of only being known as Josh’s little brother. It would definitely chafe to be constantly compared to your older brother as though you weren’t your own person.

I loved how these two bantered back and forth. Their jokes and competitiveness were refreshing because they didn’t devolve into nastiness and cruelty. You could tell that Mik and Rudy actually cared about each other. It was also nice not to have to worry about the brother’s reaction to his best friend and brother dating. That seems to be a theme in many of the brother’s best friend romances and I was thankful it didn’t come into play here.

Rudy’s restlessness made me nervous and I was definitely afraid that he would take the job in Indy and leave poor Mik after everything that happened. I do feel like his revelation that he could have both Mik and Christmas Falls as well as traveling to come pretty fast, but I would not have wanted it to drag on forever. The conflict just felt a little too neatly wrapped up.

I will certainly be reading more from this author.

A Joyfully Jay review.

3.75 stars

This is a Christmas romance, and I giggled along with the Bigfoot shenanigans. I liked Mik and Rudy and thought this was a breezy story with two sweet guys finally finding love. I think it was supposed to be an enemies-to-lovers story, but the enemies part didn’t really hold up long. Mik gets over his animosity really quickly. There’s not a lot of angst as both men are in their 30s and well-settled. The story doesn’t have a lot a lot of steam, but there are some nice romantic moments. Hockey is definitely on the outside of the story, as both men are retired players with other interests. Even their coaching responsibilities are minimal. I kind of questioned why any of these guys had jobs at bars, even with it being Mik’s family legacy, considering their supposed long careers in the pros. But, again, it’s a Christmas romance, and the focus was more on Rudy finding a real home and connection within Christmas Falls than on their careers.
