Where Was God When I Needed Him Most?: Mother’s Promise Led Me to Christ

Rate this book
This book illustrates the powerful effect David Clark´s mother, Jan Clark, had on her son. Her influence began even before David was born. Jan’s pregnancy with David was terrifyingly difficult. Her doctor, due to his grave concerns for Jan’s life, felt compelled to do everything he could to terminate the pregnancy. Amidst these extreme circumstances, Jan made a promise to her unborn child that changed everything!

Follow David Clark as he recounts experiences in which his mother kept this promise and led him to Christ. Notwithstanding that foundation in Christ, however, David years later, found himself feeling isolated and abandoned by God when he became 100% disabled and bedridden due to his military service in Iraq. He went from being an award-winning lawyer, a decorated military officer, and an Elder in his church to becoming completely dependent on others. It was only when David began remembering what his mother taught him about Jesus Christ years earlier that he finally found the peace and rest that comes solely through the Lord.

In this book, you will hears and answers prayers. We can find peace in Christ, especially in our most heart-wrenching trials.Jesus does not give up on us, nor will He ever abandon us!The truth found in Proverbs 22:6 (“Train up a child in the way he should and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” KJV).The power parents can have when they share why they believe in God, how their faith has blessed their own lives and provide opportunities for their children to gain that knowledge and experience for themselves.
Clark offers inspiration from his personal experiences bringing out how his mother’s influence led him to Christ even amidst trials and adversity. To find out more, get a copy now!

David's Heart Revealed

David, an officer in the US military in Irac, later became an attorney. Seven years after his military service he was stricken with an illness related to his military service. This illness has made him unable to sit or stand, his hands cramped and his speech in a whisper. Nevertheless, against all odds, he has written My Darkest Hour and this book, Where Was God When I Needed Him Most? This book chronicles the faith his mother had before he was born, that she passed on to him. He credits both of his parents with unfailing support his whole life, as he faced many childhood and adolescent adversities.

More than his parent's belief in him, he credits God. In this book he reveals God's love shown to him many times in palpable ways as he journeyed through life. Now that he is physically crippled, he shows how God continues to work in his life. His testimony of faith is profound. He shows me, his reader, how God loves me and is with me always. Moreover he demonstrates how Jesus knows our every suffering because He first suffered. This knowledge is freeing and comforting. Thank you David, for sharing your insight and faith. Thank you for sharing your very big heart. May God bless you every day. May He bless your words as they touch other people's hearts.

An amazing testimony of one man's courage, a mother's love, and God's faithfulness

The title of this book captured me immediately, as I have also wondered during my worst days where God had gone. My worst days, however, are nothing compared to what the author had suffered as a man bedridden and in pain. The various chapters of the book recall vignettes from his childhood and his mother's lifewhere God has been faithful and continues to be faithful, even when the reason behind the trials is not clear. Scripture is quoted throughout the book, and it was so inspiring to see the author's belief in His promises despite the most trying of circumstances.
I particularly enjoyed the discussion on what it meant to take on Jesus's yoke (from Matthew 11:28-30), which my Bible translates as being "easy." It has never felt easy to me! But rather than to be burdened by taking on this yoke, we are called to be in a relationship with Christ. Hence, the yoke is being shared.
Additionally, "easy" is best translated as "beneficial" or "useful." As the author explains, "Using “good” instead of “easy” is in harmony with the certainty that there is nothing easy about discipleship (which is what Christ’s yoke symbolizes), but it is good (useful and beneficial)."

You can find many other insightful discussions in this book, and I highly recommend it!

I have previously read “My Darkest Hour” by David R. Clark and enjoyed the raw honesty as the author weaved his heartfelt story with inspirational scripture. This book, “Mother’s Promise Led me to Christ,” is my new favorite! I loved reading the background story of what led him to his strong faith and trust in The Lord.
As a mother of a child with a congenital condition, our family has been through some rough (near death) times. I can completely relate to David’s testimony of how tragedy draws you closer to our Father in Heaven. I had a similar upbringing as the author, (came from a very faith based family), but it was in the moments when I didn’t know if my infant son would live or die that I felt closest to God.

As a mother, this book has also opened my eyes that I need to do more to openly share with my children my faith in Jesus and not just take them to church or teach them to pray. It is important to allow them to experience first hand and show them how He has worked (and is working) in our lives each day. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for inspiration or peace.

A Mother's Blessing

The importance of a good mother in the
life of a child cannot be underestimated. The author skilfully weaves countless examples of his mother's faith in and obedience to the Lord Jesus Christ within his own life experiences. Both mother and son have faced huge adversity in their lives, yet their strong faith has given them strength to overcome and endure. This is a book filled with many miracles as well as everyday events - all with the common denominator of the Lord Jesus Christ. If you are looking for an inspirational and encouraging read, this is a great book. If you have wondered what a faith filled life looks like and want to know more about the saving grace of Jesus, then this book is for you! Highly recommended.

Inspiring!

Author David R. Clark has once again written an inspiring book. This time he tells in depth the profound effect his Godly mother had on his faith, starting from her at-risk pregnancy through his childhood and adolescence. As evidenced in his first book, he would come to depend very much on the faith she lived and instilled in him. Fascinating story! Amazing mother!

A story of hope

This is a sequel to the author’s book about navigating unfathomable personal hardship. In this book, the author shares the influence his mother had on him with respect to trials and faith, and how she set the bedrock he would rely on later in life. The author gives guidance to the reader in how they can “train up a child in the way they should go.”
