Years ago, I should have known nothing could happen, no matter what my heart said, because he was my stepbrother and he hated me, which he made it clear every chance he got. When I couldn’t take it anymore, when I was at my lowest and surrounded by choking darkness, I ran. It wasn’t far enough. The memories twisted into nightmares and followed me, along with the stolen moments and the dreams I knew would never come true.

In the years I’ve been gone, I’ve grown into the woman I was always supposed to be. I’ve gotten better at ignoring the echo of his voice in my head and the way his eyes would heat when he thought I wasn’t paying attention. Still, I can feel the fissures caused by the push and pull between us.

I’m stronger now, but he holds the power to break me; he always has. When he gets his hands on me again, I can see how much he wants me, but can I trust him?

I need to know what makes an author think, “let me have the hero completely fuck the heroine up and then when they see each other again after nine years, she fucks him even though she’s conflicted about seeing him again?”

Nothing, absolutely nothing will ever atone for bullying someone and using “fighting his attraction” as an excuse is just fucking cheap.

If I could punch myself in the face for continuing this book past chapter 1, I’d do it in a fucking heartbeat because why the fuck do I do this to myself?

This heroine just made me so fucking angry, I could cry. How in the actual fuck did he make up for bullying her? Please elaborate. Explain it to me. He did not one fucking thing to make up for it. All he did was say some fucking sentence and next thing you know, the spineless twit of a doormat just opens her legs for him. I could fucking puke.

Fuck both of them but fuck her more for being an embarrassment to women.

Betrayed by her body in the worst way. Why are these authors teaching girls it’s okay for someone to treat them like crap as long as they’re good looking?! This man comes back into her life nine years later after saying some horrible ass things to her for years and the first thing she thinks is how hot he is and then proceeds to sleep with him without him having to apologize for running her out of town. I just don’t get it!!!!!! The only good part was he was celibate for all the years she was gone even though he did let the club girls rub up on him to make themselves feel better. *Cue eye roll*

Falling Feathers is the first of a new series very loosely based on those fairy tales that we all read while younger. But with a much older mature twist. In this version, we have a MC version of the The Ugly Duckling. And I absolutely loved it!

Ember Davis takes us back to the Devil’s Saints MC for this tale of second chances. Bennett (aka Penance) was a high school bad boy, and not the good kind, who drove his stepsister away after graduation by his merciless and unrelenting bullying. Evelyn is the kind hearted home-health nurse who returns back to the west coast after 8 years in NY.

During their time apart, Penance, as a member of the MC, has worked to atone for his behavior and Evelyn has learned to embrace herself for all that she is. What she doesn’t realize is that his behavior wasn’t because he thought she wasn’t perfect, but that he couldn’t be for her!

Circumstances bring them together faster than he would like, but it is always the high stress situations that expose how we truly feel. They come together quick and hot and in true Davis fashion, fall deep fast. All within the backdrop of a MC, some mafia and violence and definitely some begging for forgiveness. Spicy hot, as always, and with a HEA.

I absolutely loved this book, and how Davis just about always offshoots characters from other stories (I swear I am going to have to print off that map of hers because I am having a hard time keeping them all straight in my head!!!!). I’m adding this to my favorites collection. I can’t wait for the next one!!!.

I love how each of her books tie into the other, even when in series that are collaborative with other authors.

This book is a part of the Dark and Twisted Tales series and focuses on Bennett and Evelyn. Bennett and Evelyn had a very involved past that left scars on both of them for different reasons. Bennett always wanted Evelyn growing up but due to his own reasons, he chose to hurt her with his words and actions. His actions led to her leaving home at the first available opportunity and not looking back for years. It took Bennett losing Evelyn for him to find the Devils Saints MC and finally find a place that he belongs. He had found his family but without Evelyn by his side he was still missing his heart. Bennett knew that he messed up with how he treated Evelyn and spent 9 years trying to balance the scales to be worthy of her. When he finally gets the opportunity to make things right with Evelyn, he doesn’t hold back and is determined to win over his woman and give them the life that they should have always had. This was a great story and a great addition to the series. I can’t wait to see what else the Devils Saints MC world has to offer.

This is the first MC that I've read from this author. But I've fallen in love with just about EVERYTHING this author has written!
This book was just EVERYTHING I needed to read right now!
Bennett and Evelyn's story is riddled with pain, heartbreak, love, and forgiveness.
Absolutely loved Bennett's nickname for Evelyn throughout the entire book.
To protect Evelyn and push her further away from him, Bennett has bullied and finally pushed Evelyn too far, and the only reprieve to be found thousands of miles away in New York.
For five years he's done everything he could to atone for how he treated Evelyn. When she moves back it's game on for Bennett to prove to Evelyn that he's not some confused punk kid and that she's the only woman for him.
Evelyn has grown into the woman she feels she was always meant to be. After the put-downs and bullying, she's not comfortable in her skin. Life is everything Evelyn felt it should've been until Bennett comes back into her life trying to claim her as his own. After all the pain and treatment from Bennett can Evelyn believe his 180 flip?.

Falling Feathers is a super-steamy, instalove, OTT, opposites-attract, second-chance, curvy girl gets her biker romance. And it is a hot 🔥 one, my friends. Evelyn is a smart, curvy girl. Bennett is a hunky bad boy. When they first meet in high school, they are both attracted to each other, but Bennett torments and teases her to push her away, thinking he isn't good enough. Then their parents get married, and it feels forbidden and gets harder to manage his feelings. He ends up crushing her heart, and she moves from Seattle to New York after graduation. For the next 9 years, he tries to atone for his sins, finding family in the Devil Saints motorcycle club. His club name becomes Penance, and when Evelyn comes back, he's not letting her go. I loved this story so much. This couple had enough chemistry to burn down Seattle. Bennett is totally swoon-worthy in how he loved her and tried to make the past up to her. After the drama, we get an amazing HEA. It was so good!!!! It's one of my favorite Ember stories to date!!!.

Evelyn had a secret crush on a guy in high school that bullied her. She goes from the frying pan into the fire, when her father marries his mother and they move in. She does all she can to stay away from the house when he is there. Until one night, he has a party and says such hateful things with his friends there as well. She leaves for across the country for school and does not come back to Seattle for nine years.

Bennett/Penance treated Evelyn badly due to the feelings she brought out in him. He left their parents house when he found out she moved out of state and never looked back. He joined the Devil's Saints MC, his brothers became his new family, but he did keep tabs on Evelyn. Evelyn has been back in Seattle for a year but when a threat comes to the MC and they go on lockdown, it is time to collect his woman to keep her safe.

Will he be able to convince her to give him a chance after he confesses everything?.

Like puzzle pieces slotting into place

Evelyn and Bennett finally get their time, Bennett has tried to atone for his past mistakes and treatment of Evelyn but those atonements were for himself, to heal his heart and patch his soul. Now is the time to show Evelyn how disappointed he is in the boy he was, how devastated he is at the pain he caused and how proud he is of the man he has become, of the family he has found and of the protection they try to bring to the city. His road name says it all, Evelyn understands completely the moment she hears it and the family he has found at Devils Saints MC finally understand the punishment they have seen him serve.
This is a beautiful book of second chances and of letting go of the past to embrace the promises the future holds. We have had a few books linked to the DSMC, all are amazing and I look forward to many more.

I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review. This is a second chance love story that is far from easy. If you can get past their conflict and his actions at the beginning, you'll find that these two had a lot of growing to do on their own. Bullying plays a big part in the beginning of Evelyn and Bennett's love story. There is hatefulness and cruelty from him when they are younger. He was stupid, young and immature, but that didn't make it any easier for her to live with the feelings, even later on. Bennett does things that he can to atone for his behavior, except it takes him years to fix things with the person he wronged. They still feel the connection when they are reunited, but Evelyn is torn between it and old hurts. Bennett just wants to prove himself and their love to her. It was a good story with tension and conflict but also chemistry, passion and love. I'm not into the bully troupe, but I do love the couples and stories that Ember creates

Bennett had been bullying Evelyn all through high school. When their parents marry and they become step siblings it gets worse. Evelyn has had it and upon graduation leaves for New York, never telling Bennett. Years later Evelyn returns never dreaming that Bennett has joined the Devil Saints MC and has been keeping track of her for years. He claimed the reason he bullied her was because he loved her and he’s been trying to keep her safe to atone for the way he treated her in the past. Will Evelyn be able to forgive him for how he treated her in the past so they can have a future together. I did not care for Bennett he was too quick to bully. He did redeem himself but I never really liked his character. This is a fast paced, steamy read and I did enjoy reading it but didn’t like Bennett.

Bennett AKA Penance and Evelyn had me all caught up in this story. They knew each other from high school where he made her life miserable so imagine her surprise when her father told her he had gotten married and the woman he married had a son around her age. Call her shocked when said son turned out to be her tormentor from school. She endured all of his barks until she graduated and left for New York to go to college. She returned years later bit her father had divorced and she and Bennett were no longer family which meant he was determined to pursue Evelyn and get back what he threw away. Will Evelyn let him back into her life and will it lead them along the path to a happily ever after.

I loved Falling Feathers. This book was so good. Evelyn life’s is hard, her bulky is now her stepbrother and he’s still a bully. She finally flees and is gone foe nine years. She’s made peace with herself and her body but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t still think of the hurtful things Bennett did and said. Bennett never meant anything he said to Evelyn, he loved her. Pushing her away was to keep her safe from him. When danger comes he will do anything to keep her safe. Even though she has no idea who he is now. This was a great storyline and I loved the characters. Evelyn was sweetness and Bennett is a hot MC member now. I would definitely recommend this book and I cannot wait for more.

Falling Feathers’ by Ember Davis pulls on the emotional strings of bullying and fat shaming. Memories of Bennett are bittersweet and confusing: Evelyn spent a long time away from him, because his actions and eyes didn’t always match. His road name is Pennace and he works every day to make amends for his hurtful words and behavior towards her.

Ember always does a beautiful job of telling her character’s story by using dialogue and narrative to convey their feelings, their backgrounds, and their thoughts. Evelyn and Bennett together is perfect, he worships the ground she walks on, and she loves him deeply. I loved how open, honest, and kind both were while she showed her fierceness and passion.

I'm warming up to Ember Davis's writing style and the way she presents her stories. I'm glad I gave this story a chance because it's pretty good. The bullying is intense and honestly downright cruel. It was hard to see how Evelyn would manage to move past that, but it was good to get Bennett's perspective as the story developed, because that made it helpful as the reader to accept redemption on his far. Overall, the resolution, healing, and HEA are good. There are some elements that don't land solidly for me from a plot standpoint, but I won't rant on those issues. If you like bully romances, this will suit.

What a surprise package this book was. I am an avid fan of Ember Davis and I did not know what to expect but I was hooked from the very first page. Bennet (Penance) and Evelyn are step siblings and although they play the meanness to each other quite well they secretly harbor feelings for one another. Fast forward a few years and they are given the opportunity to be together and they both jump in feet first. I loved this book very much and I enjoyed getting familiar with new and exciting characters. This is the first book in this series and I am so excited to know that there will be much more to come.

I enjoyed the story of Bennett (Penance) and Evelyn. When their parents were married he was the biggest bully to Evelyn. She left and moved across the country. Bennett moved out of his parent's house and ended up with the Devil Saints MC. Bennett had treated Evelyn so horribly that when circumstances change he goes to get his girl to keep her safe with him. They get together faster than he wants but a stressful situation exposes how he truly feels. The story is host and steamy with some mafia, rival violence, protection, and absolutely lots of begging for forgiveness from Bennett. Great story and a wonderful HEA.

Wanted to kick the MMC's butt all over the world!

Falling Feathers by Ember Davis is part of the multi-author Dark and Twisted Tales series. I will mention that this is the first book in the new Devil's Riot MC: New Orleans Chapter series. This "tale" is a retelling on the Ugly Duckling story but with a much darker twist, so be prepared. For me it was a bit too dark in regards to the bullying that the FMC suffered. I just don't understand how she was able to get past that and still feel for the MMC. It was still a good story and well written, just not exactly what I would normally feel good about myself. I think that even though this was not a story for me I would still say that it would be fantastic for other readers.

Falling Feathers is an intense story that does not disappoint. In their last year of high school, Bennett's mom married Evelyn's dad, making their already tense relationship even more tense. What was to be her best year turned out to be the worst. The day after graduation, Evelyn left only to return nine years later. Realizing she was gone, Bennett left the house and found a new place with the MC.

Bennett and Evelyn's connection ignites on the page. Years of pain for his behavior and the loss of time with Evelyn, Bennett is determined to prove his worth to her. Evelyn's time away alowed her to become the woman she needed to overcome the bulling and get what she wanted.

This was a different book for me. I read the trigger warnings and continued anyway. Evelyn is blindsided when her father announces he’s remarried within the month she was away. To make matters worse, when they meet for their first ‘family’ dinner, she finds out that her new step-brother is the guy who’s been bullying her for years. There’s always been an undercurrent of sexual tension between them but Bennett continues to push her away the meanest way possible. Years later Evelyn returns home. This is where the story begins for Evelyn and Bennett. An interesting story in the same MC world as Biker. There’s no denying the connection these two have and the chemistry that leaps off the page. I’m normally a bit hesitant about reading books where the MFC is bullied by the MMC because I feel like a lot of them don’t address the bullying well enough. This book was awesome. Not only do they address it, they make him making up for it most of his personality.

Bennett's road name for the MC is Penance because he spends years trying to do enough good things to deserve Evelyn and he still doesn’t feel like he’s done enough when the situation is taken out of his control. I love their dynamic and even how they address the fact that their parents were married.

This was a great book. Honestly, this book started a little bit slow for me and then it was like a switch was flipped and it was full steam ahead! Evelyn and Bennett had a really rough start to their relationship but now, years later, Bennett has his chance again and he is not going to waste it he will keep his little feather safe. I loved how Evelyn was sassy, sweet and gave Bennett hell while Bennett fueled Evelyn's attitude and loved her for it. I really enjoyed this second chance romance and I can't wait to see what the rest of this series has in store for us.

Bennett and Evelyn have such a tumultuous past. In high school, Bennett knew she was too good for him, so he used anger and hate to push her away, and in the process, he wounded her so badly that she ran to the other side of the country. When she returned years later, these two were torn between the present and the last, but watching Bennett finally give in to the feelings he had for Evelyn in high school... just wow. These two were so wonderful together, and the DSMC crew.. can't wait for more from them!.

An entertaining read based on the childhood story of The Ugly Duckling only with a lot more spice. A surprise forced reunion with her High School bully/stepbrother after years away brings a story of redemption, forgiveness and love. Exciting background to the story with MC brotherhood, mafia, rival violence,and protection. Penance is determined to make Evelyn know how much he loves her. Good story and a nice HEA with epilogues.

He was one of the popular kids and she wasn't. She graduated high school and left it behind. When she comes back years later she finds a much different Bennett.
Very good! I really enjoyed it highly recommend if you like a bully type romance.

It’s Meh

I liked their relationship but overall the development was seriously lacking. The “conflict” was also non-existent. Both of them were pretty childish and at times annoying. Also, I hate series for the sole reason you’re introduced to so many unnecessary characters and it’s like an integral ad to go read another book. Annoying. Let me enjoy one decent book with an actual storyline. lol. Overall, this was pretty boring, tame, and overall lacking. Cute couple. Crappy story.

The beginning just made me so sad and hurt (for Evelyn). But when Bennett and Evelyn meet up again, it’s just everything! They’ve always been meant to be, but with age comes wisdom. And Bennett aka Penance definitely got smarter. Evelyn is sweet and graceful and gentle. I love that they figured it out and got there happily ever after! Love it!.
