Becoming a father was the proudest day of my life. Becoming a godfather was a close second.

Paul and Emily Clarke have been my best friends for over twenty years. We’ve gone through it all. We were the three musketeers. But when my best friends are ripped from all of our lives, leaving behind a broken piece of themselves I know it’s up to me to put things back together.

Only the pieces aren’t fitting the way they used to. The feelings aren’t what they used to be. The actions… Let’s just say I’ve made some questionable ones lately.

Does that stop me from wanting her? From reaching for her? From craving her? I wish I could tell you yes. But that would make me a liar.

I did receive an ARC for this book and although it’s rare for me to come across a book where I have this much to critique, I did promise an honest review.

***There will be spoilers***

I was so hyped for Gratify. I love a good taboo, age gap romance! Although the tropes I enjoy were all there, I didn’t feel like any of them were executed properly. Age gap can be really hot, but when the mmc is constantly bringing up the fact that he practically raised her from birth and thinking about her as a child, it gets very ick and has a huge grooming vibe to it that I couldn’t get behind.

Outside of the tropes not feeling up to par, the genre was very confusing. The first half of the book was a sweet contemporary with a twist of taboo and grief. That would have been fantastic as is, but when all of a sudden it turns into dark romance tropes where the mmc is talking about bathing in anyones blood if they touch her and beating on someone in a restaurant for touching her hand at a lunch meeting, I was left confused and frustrated at the change of dynamics in the story. I love me a good possessive alpha character, but because he was originally written as sweet and kind, he honestly came across as volatile and toxic. I absolutely love dark romance, but I also think that expectations are very important. When you turn to those elements after half of the book has been sweet contemporary and the guy has been sweet up until this point, it feels very much out of place. If he was going to have dark elements, I would have loved to see that right from the start. Even hints and breadcrumbs of it at the beginning would have made this side of him hit differently. I honestly found myself wishing she would have chosen the son and had a second chance romance instead. Or even choosing Dylan. The mmc just didn’t feel like the right fit and neither character had much personality or substance to them.

Lastly, plot holes. There were lots of scenes that held a ton of potential, but because details were off it pulled me out of the story.

The first and biggest, being the car accident. They lived at the end of a cul de sac, in a nice neighborhood, yet a semi truck hit her parents car at a stop sign right in front of her house? It just didn’t add up for me. Also, the car was smashed as if they were hit from the front(“like a soda can”), but If the semi ran the stop sign and hit them, wouldn’t it have been from the side of the vehicle? This scene held the potential to wrench emotions out of the reader had it been worded differently. Instead, I felt confused.

The sex scenes also had plot holes, but here were the two biggest ones for me.. The first was the jacuzzi scene. It mentioned how they had been having sex for two solid weeks, yet she pulled out the “I don’t think it’s going to fit” line. That would have been far more appropriate if used during their first time having sex, not two weeks later. The second, was the hotel/anal scene. They went straight from the shower(butt naked and unplanned) to the bed where neither of them had moved but all of a sudden he has an entire bottle of lube in his hand at the ready. The bed had nothing but roses on it when they arrived so we know there wasn’t lube there to start with. Also, when he started rubbing the *eh hem* area, she mentioned it being painful. Absolutely zero penetration there at this stage, just pressure/touching, so why was she talking about pain? Side note, birth control wasn’t discussed before hand. In dark romance you can get away with that. Not contemporary. Even if it was mentioned seconds before he slid in, that would have been fine, just add it in there somewhere before hand.

In short, this book had sooo much potential, but it felt like I was reading the alpha/beta draft. I wanted to provide constructive feedback at almost every chapter. This book could have easily been a 5⭐️ read and I think that’s why I felt so bummed after finishing it. The author is so sweet and I reallyyy wanted to love on this book! Ultimately, I feel like it did not get enough constructive feedback in the alpha/beta stage before being finalized.

As of reviewing, this book has a "dark" tag but nothing could be further from the truth.

Started off really well, like REALLY GOOD. But once it got to 50%, I feel like it just dragged and
I lost almost all interest. I pushed through though because I aint gonna waste my time for nothing right? I enjoyed Atlas's character at first, but then again after halfway through the book, he got a little icky. You're this 40 y/o MAN who's supposed to be sophisticated and composed and mature, but something happens and then you act like a little horny possessive psycho from a wattpad novel written by a 12 y/o. bffr. to be COMPLETELY HONEST I think Dillion would have been the better MMC. As far as Andromeda's character, I really liked her, and I loved how the story included her struggles with the grief and loss of her parents and then that essentially being what gradually bonded her relationship with Atlas. I think the overall downfall would just be how boring the book became once they did the dirty and how the plot just disappeared pretty much. Don't get me wrong I LOVE me some good smut, heavy or light, but I mean if they're gonna be boning every chapter at least make it the rest of the plot interesting.

“Having you in any measure of time was the greatest pleasure of my life,”

EVERYONE KNOWS I LOVE AN AGE GAP
ANYTHING WITH DADDY ISSUES ILL EAT IT UP

but I don't like when books have to tell me it's taboo.
Because....girl I want to FEEL filthy when I read it.
If you have to TELL me it's taboo girlie it's not taboo enough.

“Yeah, you’re needy for your godfather’s cock. Can’t get enough, can you babygirl?”
“I love my godfather’s cock inside me,”

Yes see.
This is something that is so close to me the way you had to write that rather than make the book so angsty that reading it would make me feel like I'm doing something wrong by reading this.

I should have loved this it had age gap, taboo, which I usually eat up but this book just didn’t deliver.
Firstly their attraction came out of absolutely nowhere, like zero build up or chemistry just poof one day they had these forbidden feelings for each other.
There was no spark between them at all it was so dry to read.
Her fuckin aunt annoyed the shit out of me, in books when there’s OW sniffing around I want the mmc to tell her to fuck right off and Atlas sent her mixed messages and didn’t shut her down enough for my liking, like he got soo over the top when it came to Andromeda and om, punching a client cus he touched her hand but he couldn’t tell Alyssa he wasn’t interested. Hell no, if you’re gonna be over the top jealous and possessive then have the same energy towards females threatening your relationship as you do for males.

Anyway, I felt like it had potential but it wasn’t executed well at all.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

You guys…. Katelyn Taylor DOES 👏🏼NOT👏🏼MISS. Every single book I have read of her has been so good. I mean come on this girl made me love a love triangle (the loyalties we break) and an age gap !!!! These tropes are not always my favorite but Katelyn did it SOOOO well. There is just something about this authors writing style that I devour.

If you love: age gap, parents best friend, ex boyfriends dad, GODFATHER, trauma bond, forbidden, office romance…. You will eat this up.

This book had me so emotional I was crying in the first 12%. I felt for Drama so much. Between her relationship issues and a traumatic event, this girl is just out through through the ringer. No worries tho, god daddy atlas here to save the day. Oh did I mention there is a crawl to me moment??

Guys, read this book asap!!!

This took me 10 years to read. Started out sooo slow. I hated Atlas in the beginning up until they finally got together for real. Hated Drama during almost the whole thing. Especially after the 3rd act. She really ghosted him and moved to another country for almost 2 years!!!!! 😡 also why did she protect her cheater ex from everyone!! I literally don’t care what the situation is! That made me mad

This 18 year old had 3 men wanting her like…. how special is she really?

I LOVEEE age gap/exs dad but this was NOT it

Oof. The first chunk of this book... hits right in the feels and brought up some TRAUMAAAAAA.

Loved the book though. I spent more of the time wanting to strangle Atlas but it's okay, we're friends again. Both the FMC and MMC have some trauma to work out and of course that becomes disastrous. I don't want to say too much and spoil the book, so I'll just say this: This book was MESSY but I also kind of loved it. There were moments in this book where my entire body was rigid reading the mess that was ensuing and the foolish moves Atlas made and even moments where I was kind of cheering on Dillon. I would love to read another continuation of this series with the side characters.

Overall, solid read for me.

Katelyn Taylor does it again. The queen of hot & steamy smut. Gratify is 1000% my favorite forbidden, age gap romance. I loved it from beginning to end.

When Andromeda loses both of her parents in the blink of an eye at 18, she is left alone. Rather than deal with her grief alone, Atlas, Andromedas godfather, and coincidentally, father of her ex-boyfriend, Theo, has her come stay with them for a while. While trying to return to a normal life, Andromeda leans on Atlas for support. However, when grieving, one will do anything to numb their pain. How far is she willing to go to forget?

JESUS, Atlas is fiiiiiine, ok. That man, that mouth? Perfection. I absolutely devoured the spice and fuck it moment, the pay off was so good. I did not want to put this book down, and I’m so sad it’s over. I wish I listened to the audio though, that’s for sure 😍

Positive thoughts:
• this book contained some of my absolute favorite sub tropes.
•decent moments of passion

Constructive thoughts:
• I felt as if romantic/lustful thoughts just conjured themselves out of thin air. One moment of seeing someone in a swimsuit at 18 does not change the fact that you’ve always seen them as a child,or that you’ve never once noticed their beauty. Ever.
There were many events and traumatic moments before the relationship was embarked upon, but there was no true build -up of physical attraction or romantic feelings between the leads. Their conversations were extremely limited, and felt very stunted. It made the jealous/possessive actions of the godfather feel awkward instead of hot.
• overall I was still invested in the story, even though several characters were introduced, and subsequently shoved aside without much explanation or resolution. The real reason for my rating is the appalling final 20% of the book. It read like a Lifetime network movie. I almost didn’t see it through. What the HELL was that?! Seriously. If the reader is supposed to believe that an 18-year-old young woman is emotionally intelligent enough to be in a happy, successful relationship with a 41-year-old man, then she probably shouldn’t have tucked tail and run away, ghosting him for two years without a word. It was shocking in a gratuitous way.
• I feel like this book had a lot of potential, execution just wasn’t what it needed to be to make it great, or their outcome believable.

well this book for sure took me out of my reading slump. I was at the edge of my seat since the very beginning! (intrigued wise) honestly there wasn’t a dull moment in this book. 🥺

I literally have nothing bad to say about it, I just didn’t want it to end. I’m really gonna have trouble topping this one for sure. thank you booktok for recommending!! 🙏🏻

was the mmc a little hot headed? yes did I mind it? not really I found it gave him character. 💋

and maybe if just the age for the fmc was a little higher then 18 that would have been a bit more fitting.

Okay idk I just can’t. This isn’t even bad necessarily. Like it is but isn’t I’ve for sure read worse. I’m just like frustrated at it? It started really good and then it progressively got worse to me. I just don’t feel their yearning for each other. The smut scene was horrid. I was looking forward to that and it was bad. I love taboo but for some reason this bothers me haha. Idk this story just ain’t hitting. I may come back cause I don’t hate it but I also don’t love the writing. Like the things atlas says to her are weird. And he lowkey is acting like a child. Shockingly I feel bad for cheater son. And also Dillon. Her parents death was so sad. Anyways I think I just can’t with this rn. I think I’m in a slump tho rn I won’t lie. I’m for sure slumping. Like this truly isn’t the worst I’ve read worse but it’s also pissing me off. Them having sex the first time was so bad and the things he said were dumb HAHAH. IT WAS JUST BAD. Like I said I don’t hate this but I’m also not happy about this I’m frustrated because I liked the beginning. But I just don’t feel it between them and the things he’s saying are giving me the ick and I’m slumping hard

I may continue with this but idk I just can’t rn. This truly isn’t one of the worst ones I read in honestly just slumping hard and their dialogue and story was just not giving to me. Atlas calling himself a titan in bed almost ended me

whew this was a ride! I quite literally couldn’t put this book down! this was an emotional roller coaster. like I swear I felt every emotion possible while reading this book; pain, excitement, disgust, frustration, etc.. and the “build up” to when feelings were finally acted on was insane like the tension and angst was so high! and the spice?? it was great.. whew daddy atlas has a filthy mouth hehehe. this was such a good read! I definitely recommend this one especially if you like the following tropes..

Andromeda aka Neveah has grown up with her parents, and their best friend Atlas, and his son Theo. They were each other’s family. When life took an unexpected turn, and everything was instantly changed, they turned to each other to get through. Lines begin to blur, and temptations are indulged…

Without giving anything away, I absolutely loved the angst, and tension. Neveah is such a good character. I loved watching her growth throughout. She encounters so many challenges, and she faces them all. Atlas, is such a sexy character. He’s dominant, but still gentle.

If you’re looking for an addictive, binge worthy forbidden age gap story, this is for you!!!

MORE THAN 5 STARS!

Katelyn Taylor, you just gained a forever fan! I had never heard of you, but anyone that knows me knows that age gap is one of my favorite tropes. And this book has made it to the top of my list! The emotion you packed in this book had me ignoring everything and everyone till I read the last word. And I’m upset it has ended. But it was such an amazing love story and one I will never forget. Heading to Goodreads now to look at your other books. If your other books are this caliber then I can’t wait to read them!
