I believe the brilliance and beauty of this book is in its simplicity. In each poem the author expounds on love, romance, the heart, and yearning--and in every poem it feels so viscerally sincere. That is to say that love poems can be tedious, they can be daunting, they can be sad, silly, harrowing. But these poems--this book of Deep Craving--is filled with genuine spirit.

I did love the poems gifted to us by Joe Giampaolo, but I loved the open letter of love to his wife even more. I almost wish that was the first installment in this book because it makes the poems more dynamic. Reading of Giampaolo's love is like experiencing what we all ultimately wish to have--the movement of true love. And sometimes, true love is just a boring cup of tea.

Joe Giampaolo shares with us a series of short poems, which, although focused on love, also exalt nature and hope. Affection can be represented in different ways, so Joe talks about passions as well as romance. He motivates us to find true love and achieve inspiration. Hence, sometimes the poems talk about running down cobblestone streets and feeling nostalgic, and other times there are moments of peace while contemplating the moonlight. The settings he describes are beautiful, but his perspective remains realistic.

I liked Joe Giampaolo's poetic style because he is not afraid to open his heart. His words are sincere and simple; for this reason, in Deep Craving, it is easy to see the beauty of poetry. The allegories and representations of nature are clear and attached to the feelings of life. The author's words are reminiscent of some of the classic poets, but his style is still his own and individual, thus maintaining his poetic purity. His ideas are expressed in sweet concepts, so he can speak of snow or the vibrant sound of children's laughter without losing the sense of the theme of love.

I enjoyed reading Deep Craving; it serves to lift your spirits and continue the day with a positive attitude because it allows you to see the world in a favorable light. That's why I think Joe Giampaolo succeeds. I only wish there had been more poems to read because the ideas always convey the right feeling. This is a case of quality, where in a few words, great ideas are conveyed. This poetry will make you feel nostalgic and longing. But it will also motivate you to seek to live in a new world, a more prosperous one.

Deep Craving: A Collection of Poems is a thought-provoking book filled with visions of love and romance from a unique perspective. This is a wonderful collection to read or share with someone you love if you are looking for something different but deeply meaningful. I recommend this read for any lover of poetry who wishes to express their feelings with affection.

A BLEND OF LITERARY DEVICES AND HUMAN NATURE

Deep Craving: A Collection of Poems is a July 2022 (with a revised 2023 edition) poetry anthology by Joe Giampaolo. It consists of 40 poems, categorized into four major sections: Love, Rain, Essence, and Social Justice.

The Love section consists of 17 concise poems, especially the book title-inspiring poem Deep Craving, where a nowhere-to-be-found lover’s abode is their admirer’s heart. This section continues in the same literary vein; it explores themes such as reassurance, affection, encouragement, consolation, adoration, longing, adulation, obsession, turmoil, patience, romantic dreams, submission, infatuation, feminine energy, selflessness, self-sacrifice, endearments, and confession.

The Pain section has five poems, wherein: forgiveness is an antidote to pain, meditation eases sorrow, pain reminds us of our humanness, traveling is good for self-rediscovery, and stoicism holds us back.

The Essence section's 11 poems are all about: human virtues, predatorial tendencies, our ill-fated quest for joy, mortality, nourishing soul travel, aligning oneself with the universe, spiritual awakening, cyclic natural processes, seeking spiritual knowledge, philosophical musings, and consciousness.

The six poems in the Social Justice sections promise a better tomorrow--a just future, with humane polices--and reassures the burdened as epitomized by utopian thinking. Art can counteract extreme political ideologies. The forgotten urbanites—artists, the unlucky lot, and the liberal —may be godlier than their counterparts. The editor's heartfelt poem, which commemorates her departed child, and a bibliography wrap up a well-written anthology that is rich in literary devices.

"Deep Craving: A Collection of Poems" by Joe Giampaolo is a captivating and inspiring journey through the depths of the human experience. With his raw and vibrant style of poetry, Giampaolo fearlessly explores the realms of love, pain, death, essence, and justice, culminating in a collection that is both relatable and profoundly moving. What sets this collection apart is the author's ability to create a dream-like atmosphere, where each poem transports the reader into a world of emotions. Giampaolo's words are sincere and simple, yet they carry a profound depth that resonates with the reader on a personal level. While the collection is relatively short, comprising 35 poems, each piece leaves a lasting impression. The poems are concise and impactful, conveying profound ideas in a few well-chosen words. Although I wished for more poems to indulge in, the brevity of each piece adds to its potency, leaving the reader wanting more. One of my personal favorites from the collection is the poem titled "Essence," which beautifully captures the human experience. With lines like "We are human beings in flesh and bones / but our natural state is liquid / our destiny is always to flow downwards," Giampaolo encapsulates the essence of our existence and the ever-changing nature of life.

Its verses, both raw and resonant, tackle an impressive range of topics from social justice to speculative metaphysics. Giampaolo's award-winning debut collection of 40 poems is a masterstroke, deftly weaving romance, inspiration, and dreamy atmospheres into a tapestry of life's joys, sorrows, triumphs, and challenges. His unapologetic exploration of the darkest corners of the human experience seeks out love, beauty, truth, redemption, compassion, and acceptance, offering readers a fresh perspective on the universe and our place within it. Its accolades are well-deserved, including a Gold Medal from Literary Titan and becoming an Amazon Top 100 Bestseller. This collection is a testament to Giampaolo's vibrant poetic prowess.

“Deep Craving” by Joe Giampaolo is a collection of poems written in prose. My personal preference for poetry is that of the rhyming kind. However, this book has some lovely poems to offer on a wide range of themes. Some of the themes are somber such as the poem titled “The Realm of the Shadows”, while others give hope, such as “The Truth”. The latter is my favorite poem by this author and includes the suitable words that truth is not found in philosophy books or in the cleric's sermons, but in such things as the eyes of a child and “the hand that feeds the poor”. Although poetry written in prose is not directly in line with my preference, I think this little book would make a great gift and deserves a solid five stars.

This is a wonderful and extremely well-organized poetry collection book. It is incredible that this is Joe's first book of this style as he demonstrates absolute control over the writing, showing off by playing with words and literary techniques in each of the poems. Let me say that his passionate approach to poetry is highly visible. This is fundamental to create empathy among readers who appreciate honesty and intensity in their literary experiences.

Personally, the poems took me on a roller-coaster of sensations; every single page evoked strong feelings and made me enjoy them on a deeper emotional level. My only complaint is that I could have continued reading some more without getting tired or bored, so I think a compilation of only 40 poems turns out to be too few. Anyway, I loved this book and was left wanting more.

A rollercoaster of emotions
I experienced a mixture of feelings after reading “Deep Craving” by Joe Giampaolo. He has the power of letting readers' minds flow without stopping.
This collection of poems delves into social justice, metaphysics, feelings, beauty, truth, and redemption, among other themes which touch people’s hearts, memories or notions about some places. There is one in particular called “The two cities” that made me travel to the city of lights and smell its streets or listen to the buzz of the people. Some verses will allow readers to experience a mixture of emotions.
Throughout these verses, there is a lot to learn, to enjoy and to thrill. It happened to me the moment I started reading so without a doubt, I recommend it.

Nice

Nice collection of poems, simply written, easy for anyone to understand and enjoy. Some feel like mini stories or thoughts written down. Most seem to be love poems, though there are other topics such as social justice . I enjoyed the ode to a simple cup of tea shared with his beloved wife every evening, and I also enjoyed the picture he paints of New York City at night, in the darkness, when all the night creatures come out. I also enjoyed the love poem inspired by Wuthering Heights. These poems are sweet and easy to read, not mind blowing, but nice. This author has written many other things to check out as well, not only some romance novels but also some essays and a reader's companion to Jane Austen, as well as ghost stories, which sound interesting.

Poetry awakens the senses through words and the creation of beauty in language, and also cultivates the imagination and memory.
And that is precisely what author Joe Giampaolo generated in me, with his book “Deep Craving: A Collection of Poems”. With each poem, the author celebrates passion or tackles topics of social justice, personal grief and aspects of speculative metaphysics.
Each of the poems has its charm, and the recommendation I make is that they should be read with the greatest possible attention. They have no waste and each one of them is better than the last. I recommend this reading to all those who enjoy reading poems.

Deep Craving is the first poem compilation book into The Passion & Reason Poetry Series by author Joe Giampaolo.
Through his poems, the author talks about human emotions and everyone experiences, grouped into 4 sections: Love, Pain, Essence and Social Justice. Through his words, he can really evoke moments experienced by many people, so readers will be able to easily empathize with those feelings. Moreover, the selection of words and the use of the prose are masterfully designed to inspire, reflect and motivate.
All in all, this is a thoughtful and soulful anthology of poetry and reflections, that can be a good recommendation or gift to friends and family.

Deep Craving is a collection of poems, written by talented Joe Giampaolo. Over the pages, the reader submerges in a world of love and tolerance, reviving a genre that's becoming less usual.

Writing good poetry is not an easy task, and the author excels in this job. If I had to choose one and only one poem, my favorite would be "The Tempest":

"Give me knights filled with doubts and nightmares.

Give me evenings filled with thunder and lightning.

Give me days filled with wind and snow."

Overall, a beautiful book. Easy to read in a couple of hours, but hard to forget.

Excellent work Mr. Giampaolo, hope to read more poems like these ones from you!

I absolutely enjoyed the book “Deep Craving” mainly because the themes it explores are about diverse life things and moments. Also, because I think the author skillfully captures the essence of each one in a sublime way. These two aspects together make this book really hard to put down.

This delightful collection of forty poems shows the author’s creativity as well as the power he has to capture very meaningful things on their own and give them an added value. The feelings are absolutely palpable throughout the pages and it is easy to identify with more than one poem.

This is not the first time I have chosen to enjoy a book written by Joe and it definitely won't be the last.

“together, but I love you more for the thousand boring cups of tea…”

This collection of poems brings in a lot of emotions, topics and things. The author is very creative and I wish I also have the gift of writing. My favourite one was the open letter to the author’s wife. It was really touching and I can feel his love towards the woman he loves. Sometimes, those simple things to show the person we love means so little to us, “mechanical” acts as the author has plainly placed but it means so much to our loved ones. I hope someday I can do the same for my partner, this book gives me so many ideas. These are some good spoken words that any reader can easily relate to.

Brilliant compilation of poems focusing on love, hope, and nature. Giampaolo is a fabulous poet, with a unique and captivating style. He offers optimism and positivity in his poetry, which surely is a much-needed departure from the dark and depressing poetry that circulates the contemporary literary world.
Each individual poem is inspiring and moving. All 35 poems are worth reading and annotating. I truly think every reader can gain something from Giampaolo's view, where the glass is always half full.

This is potent and moving poetry. I particularly liked “The Tempest.” I love everything about the collection, which speaks of love and longing. Some of them are written so well, they feel like a dream.

However, the only issue I have is formatting. The poems appear to be in different sizes or fonts in the ebook and I found it distracting.

A solid poetry exploration for being able to defend real love.

I got caught up with how each poem in this collection is about how love changes things by giving hope even in harsh times. There are obvious varieties which are sometimes random in there placement if order but have romantic and human notions, but each one felt genuine even in the poems meant to be heavier. While often exasperated, these poems had meaningful themes of bravery which showed that writing about the costs of love is also beautiful. It's hope of what can evolve with a bit of fight in many emotional ways. Deep Cravings is one series of poems that I got to read in a long time where I felt the urge to remain genuine for what love can be in the right people.

My favorites out these depthful love poems had to be the ones which told a story whether nice or bad. The first major dark and twisted one being A One-Way Ticket To Anywhere. I'd say the best one which depicts the gray area of how life viewed through silence is peaceful when shared with the right person is Winter. And weirdly enough the most pleasant one being If You Said Yes... towards the start of these works gave rather intentional sentiment that was pleasant for me to read and stuck with me. In the end Joe Giampaolo range for a cycle of life each section – Love, Pain, Death, Essence, and Justice– was personal but relatble at many points, that restored me a bit.

After reading this masterful collection of poetry from Joe Giampaolo I am left with a "Deep Craving" for more poetry from this heartfelt, honest, and talented poet. This collection of poetry is a quick read with a profound message of love, life, hardship, struggle, and death. It is obvious that Joe Giampaolo highlights his understanding of nature, the universe, and love in this delightful rendition of his own personal life experiences. No matter who you are or what your background is you will find connections and parallels between his poetry and your own personal experiences and struggles with existence, nature, and especially love. This book is both moving as well as inspiring and provides insight into the human condition and our connections with one another and our emotional capacities. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who appreciates poetry, as well as the casual reader looking for inspiration and a deeper understanding of the emotional commonality that drives all mankind. It is easy to feel both immersed and captured through Joe's creative imagery and powerful sentiments about being human that we all can relate to. "Deep Craving: A Collection of Poems" is a breath of fresh air and provides an inspired insight into the connections that shape us and fundamentally dictate the commonality we all share in this journey through life. This fascinating collection can be enjoyed by readers of all ages and will leave a lasting impression on all those who dare to challenge the daunting task of being human. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a warm cup of tea as you explore the depths of your imagination through lively imagery and heartfelt accounts of the natural world and how love binds and shapes us all.

This collection of poems is very accessible. Giampaolo includes literary allusions to very familiar works of art, such as Dante's Divine Comedy and Bronte's Wuthering Heights. The poems about love are the strongest. My favorite lines of the collection include: "We dance along the lines of a pentagram / where our steps create notes of an immortal melody."

Some of the poems include all-too-familiar imagery and diction. For instance, in "Just To Be With You," the line "I have defied the laws of physics / just to be with you" recalls many other writers who have used the exact phrase "I have defied the laws of physics."

Overall, the collection seems heartfelt, if not always innovative. I do enjoy that he ended the book on the quotidian aspects of love, like making tea.

This book by Joe Giampaolo is a compilation of poems that will blow your mind. His way of writing and how he manages to fully connect with the reader is incredible. With more than 30 poems touching on everyday but difficult to address themes such as love, redemption, acceptance, compassion and truth.
I really loved seeing how he was able to get these magnificent writings from something so general, with a touch of social criticism that made me very emotional. I was fascinated with this collection. In the book Deep Craving, you will find short poems but full of meaning; one of my favorites was the one about a magic mirror. It carries behind it a magnificent meaning that helped me to connect a lot with my inner self and my insecurities. I highly recommend it.

Deep Craving is a collection of poems that explores the themes of love, pain, death, essence, and justice. His poems are inclined towards lifting our spirits. He focuses on the heart and passions more and how it shapes our aspirations. The connections with nature are nostalgic and offer calmness. The poems are deeply personal and introspective, and Joe Giampaolo's writing is raw and emotional, inviting the reader into his innermost thoughts and feelings. He advocates we all should find love and a sense of inspiration.
The collection is divided into six sections, each of which explores a different aspect of the human experience. The poems range in length and form, from free verse to sonnets, but they are all united by their honesty and vulnerability. The poems are unflinching in their exploration of the darker aspects of the human experience, including grief, pain, and despair, but they also offer hope and redemption through their celebration of love, beauty, and connection. The title “Deep Cravings” is synonymous with our human experience especially our desire to know ourselves and our place in the universe.
Joe's use of imagery and metaphor is particularly striking, and he has a talent for creating vivid and evocative scenes with his words. His language is musical and rhythmic, and the poems are a pleasure to read aloud. He is also a mood lifter. Anyone wanting to connect with nature, express affection to someone, or have their spirits lifted, can indulge the different selection of poems.

With verse reminiscent of Neruda’s love poems and odes, Joe Giampaolo examines topics such as love, pain, death, essence, and justice in his collection, Deep Craving: A Collection of Poems (2022). Reading Giampolo’s writing was a delight– he knits together his designated “parts” using one of the most basic and universal human experiences: love. From poems comparing himself to his lover to poems comparing his lover to literary figures such as Shakespeare’s heroines to even a poem about a canine companion and the inherent love and desire of justice, Giampaolo utilizes words that call forth just the perfect amount of imagery and placement of the reader into this intimate world he has created in his collection.

I give Deep Craving 4.5 stars– overall a wonderful collection, a quick and nice read, but in parts a bit sloppy with rhythm/cadence particularly as well as some similar general poetic mechanics, which isn’t overall damning, but I thought I’d offer up why I docked the half star.

Deep Craving is a collection of poems that capture the complexities of love, grief, and passion. The dream-like poems, with their vibrant language, are filled with deep meanings, emotions, and connotations. I feel many readers will enjoy this collection of poems. The language is simple and easy to follow and brings vivid imaginations to mind.

Deep Craving is a quick light read, but you will find yourself thumbing through the pages numerous times to exhaust your favourite poems. I feel most readers will connect with multiple poems and find themselves caught in the vibrant language. It is easy to become immersed in the interwoven sentiments and heartfelt declarations.

I highly recommend this collection to those who enjoy poetry. Each entry is very well-written, thought-provoking, and captivating.

An emotional collection of poems.

Joe Giampaolo is the author of a short, nice and moving book called Deep Craving: A Collection of Poems. The book addresses topics such as love and romanticism, but it also talks about social justice and personal grief. Through a great writing style that highlights knowledge and management of poetry, the author seeks to connect with the reader.
In general, I like poetry but sometimes it is too metaphorical, to the point that it is too difficult to understand. This is not the case at all! It has eloquent and elegant writing but at the same time, it is easy to read and understand. It is definitely a great journey that takes readers through various emotions.

I was excited to jump into this book as poetry has always been an interest of mine. Giampaolo didn’t disappoint with this book!

While it’s relatively short, each poem evokes a feeling that you can think on for a bit, making it 100% worth the read.

If you enjoy reading about love and the way it can make you feel, this book is a must read. I especially love the formatting, making it easy to read and clear when a new poem is beginning.

Some poetry can be difficult to understand, but his poems are approachable for readers of a variety of ages and would be a great way for someone new to poetry to read it for the first time.

The poems are divided into various parts to differentiate their origins. Igniting and enticing, the poems flow seamlessly talking about love, pain, essence and so much more.
