Hikaru and Kaoru's fight over Haruhi is taking its toll on Hunny and Mori, who are trying to watch over the estranged twins. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Tamaki, Kyoya starts looking for Tamaki's mother in France.

This book shows the reason I'm in love with Kyouya. Tamaki is not near the top of my favorite characters from this book. But that shirtless scene....my oh my. :)
How I choose my rating: 1* Didn't like it at all. These are rare as I usually just don't finish any book I dislike this much. 2** Didn't like it. Again usually DNF if I dislike it this much, but occasionally I feel it still has potential and I try to stick with it to the end. 3*** I liked it. It wasn't great but it was enjoyable enough. It is unlikely I'll ever reread it but I might finish the series if it is a part of one. 4**** I really liked this book. Maybe not a work of genius, but highly entertaining. I might reread this at some point, and I will almost always finish the series if part of one. 5***** I loved this book. I found little to no issues with it at all. I will probably reread this and possibly more than once. I will definitely finish the series if it's part of one.
I figured it had had to happen at some point and it did with this volume... I cried... I love how the romantic plot is moving forward, how our characters are growing and becoming better people... And their growing pains hurt my heart but it is so worth it! I feel so much love for this series and I'm happy that this is the first manga that ever made me cry. It really has a special place in my heart!
Hikaru, kaoru & haruhi moment❤️. Haruhi & kaoru date at amusement park together. Hikaru begin to change himself from starting change his hair colour ( I'm curious what colour his hair was) 🤔 n kaoru is very happy for him. Back to kyoya is in his school vacation to Paris even though tamaki can't go due to his grandmother from his father side. Kyoya finally meet tamaki's mother even her behavior is similar from tamaki. Tamaki's mother have lots of her son's picture from her son's school. Haruhi & tamaki moment ❤️ especially haruhi finally blushed herself because of tamaki kiss at her forehead. After kyoya headed back to Japan, he give to his club members also their friends some gifts except tamaki but he told tamaki about his mother that she's doing fine, that made tamaki cry even haruhi too.

I just want to *squee* every time I think about this series! It just makes me feel so happy inside.
Things are starting to get more serious in this book. In the first place Tamaki is hiding out because he doesn't want his friends to know he skipped the Paris trip. (This leads to some hilarious misconceptions for Haruhi.)
Meanwhile, Kyoya, is being the secret sweetie he is. He is ardently searching for Tamaki's mother, so he can make sure she's okay and give a report to Tamaki. () I love how Kyoya puts out this cool exterior, but he's really a softy at heart who really cares about his friends.
Hatori is able to brilliantly show exactly what her characters are like without telling us. I don't know how she does it so well, but she's a genius at it. I think a lot of it comes down to the fact that she truly cares about her characters. This comes through loud and clear in her writing and in the little side panels she shares in the books. I love those.
The twins are still in the midst of figuring things out. It's exhausting Mori and Hunny trying to help them. They come to some big epiphanies regarding themselves and Haruhi.
It's definitely apparent that things are going to keep getting more "real" for Tamaki and Haruhi. It could be they start realizing what all the rest of us have known from the beginning. ["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
I'm such a wimp. I wanted to cry. "Tamaki's decision... looking back, it might have been the beginning of the host club."
Kyoya is a great friend. Say what you will about him, but he truly cares for those he lets in. He's calculating and ocassionally deceptive but he'll travel the world to find your missing mother just to surprise you.
Haruhi is finally beginning to realize her feelings go beyond friendship.
Kaoru and Hikaru are growing closer, even as they become more independent.
Meanwhile, Honey and Mori are the omniscient narrators and supportive friends.
I love rereading this series ❤

The drama and the heartache really ramp up in this volume. And while I'm a staunch fan of Hikaru and Kaoru, I can't help but be a little weak for Tamaki as well when he gets chapters like these.
Overall, I think all of the chapters in this volume are solid, and I like how the author spent a lot of space in the filler areas talking about the process of writing for a manga magazine and the materials she uses. I think it's very natural for manga fans to want to try their hands at drawing (I certainly did for years) so it's really nice for the author to share her experience and expertise in that way. I wish she wouldn't talk herself down so much, but I think that kind of humble aspect is common among mangaka.
One of the more serious volumes as Tamaki's story takes the center stage.
Kyoya seems the most like a caring person when it comes to Tamaki, so it makes sense he's trying to help Tamaki in this situation. I enjoyed Tamkai's scenes with Haruhi the most in this volume. I like their bonding over their mothers. It ends on Haruhi finally getting some hint about her feelings, so that was good.
Overall, a more somber volume, but there's a lot of development for Tamaki here.
this is a good one. hikaru with black hair and tamaki being called rené feels desperately illegal. i <3 kyoya being a good boyfriend and trying to find tamaki's mom. was very sweet. the twins had good development in the beginning. we got some actual chemistry with tamaki and haruhi (although tamaki went and ruined it by bringing back the father thing) i don't ship it but i am *supposed* to so its nice to see🙏 also there was no like underhanded homophobia!! what a win
Oh, cuantas emociones!!! Los integrantes del Host Club están dándose cuenta de sus sentimientos y la joya de este volumen es, sin duda, Kyoya. Es una pena que el anime no haya tomado esta parte de la historia.
Last episode marked a big change in the style of the Host Club comics. Gone are the cutesy little everyone-getting-alone, single episode plot lines. Instead, the plots are becoming deeper and more meaningful, and stretching out over a longer span. This episode had great development for Kyoya, the twins, and Haruhi especially.
Episode 52: 5/5 Kyoya begins to scour France for Tamaki's mother, simply out of the goodness of his heart and his affection for Tamaki. The twins are still fighting, and Haruhi is spending increased time with Kaoru, who arranges small displays of affection between the two while he knows Hikaru is watching, even going so far as to ask her on agt date.
Episode 53: 5/5 Kaoru decides there isn't chemistry between him and Haruhi, and makes up with Hikaru, wishing him the best. He decides they need to start differentiating and separating themselves, but Hikaru argues that it would solve the problem to start with everyone else differentiating between them, and so he dyes his hair dark.
Episode 54: 5/5 Kyoya is hilariously starting to fade from the exhaustion of looking for Tamaki's mother. Home in Japan, Tamaki is lonely and bored stuff, and begins to spent time with his father at Suoh Co., where he spends more time caring after people in need than learning the trade.
Episode 55: 5/5 Unable to stay away, Tamaki sneaks outside Haruhi's house hoping to spy on her inside, but she catches him. The two are left alone in Haruhi's house, where she confesses how hopeless and unprepared she felt to help the twins' during their fight, and now to help Tamaki, who didn't go to France because of his mother. Tamaki tells Haruhi how his mother's sickness inspired him to try and be happy everyday, and make others happy. The two share ~INFINITY~ sweet moments that made my heart burst out of his chest, including a (SQUEAK) kiss, which leaves Haruhi infatuated and confused. Meanwhile, Kyoya interviews an old staff member in Tamaki's mother, Anne Sophie's house, and finds out where Tamaki's mother is.
Episode 56: 5/5 Kyoya has now whiled away his entire vacation looking for Anne Sophie, and collapses in exhaustion at her doorstep, where she takes him in and hauls him into bed. Anne Sophie tells this exchange student a little about her life, and Kyoya politely listens and participates in conversation, not giving away his identity, but offering her support and comfort. After he leaves, we find out that Anne Sophie recognized him halfway through the conversation. At home, Kyoya gives out presents, the best one of all to Tamaki -- news about his mother.
Wow. I have to say I'm impressed. I remember when I began this series. I thought it was fun, but never anything that would hook me. That's been relatively true until the past couple of volumes. This one took it even further.
It is so nice to see the twins actually dealing with something serious like their relationship and their identities. This volume dealt mostly with their struggle to figure out how to live as individuals, but still brothers. Kaoru takes one for the team, but it seems to be the right decision. Haruhi finds herself in the middle of it all. As usual, she offers her encouragement and advice. She's always the voice of reason.
Kyoya has been searching for Tamaki's mother in France. Being the amazing friend he is, he just wants to bring back good news about Tamaki's mother. Tamaki spends his time alone or having lunch with his father. It seems the time has come for Tamaki to make a decision about his future. Will he join in the family business or choose his own way? And when on earth will he recognize his feelings for Haruhi? She is certainly noticing them.
Great plot development in this one. I'm ready to read the next!
Highkey, this volume ate the way Renge in the manga would eat three bowls of rice when she's in her fangirl feels. The plot progression here was well done across the board. Hikaru and Kaoru's arc in particular was a highlight (then again, I expected it to be such). The latter's feelings for Haruhi developed in a way I wasn't expecting. Seeing the two work it out between them, along with deciding the best balance to honor their bond as twins and individualize themselves in the Host Club. The former had a quote that resonated with me and my relationship with my own twin. Even if they're apart in the distant future, them being twins will keep them together. That's something I plan on keeping in the back of my head as I continue grad school. While it's been wonderful to blossom as my own person, having Luke in my corner is something I appreciate and will never take for granted. Us being twins is what has made us resilient in various aspects of our lives.
Kyoya's true heart was revealed in his quest to find Tamaki's mother. There may still be parts to his character that prioritize profit over what he really wants (especially where his family's concerned. Still sniffing out that reference which got dropped at the end of the anime), but in this subplot, it's clear his friendship with Tamaki is more important than he lets on. I saw an inkling during the sports festival as well. He cares about his Club co-member in a way he doesn't about anyone else. Despite Tamaki's antics, he's found a place in Kyoya's mind where they're equals.
So stinking cute! I adore all of the relationship dynamics we get to see firsthand in this volume. The last one was a bit chaotic with Kyoya and Tamaki (!!! of all people !!!) in a fight. This time around, Kyoya is being the loyal and caring friend he pretends not to be and looked for Tamaki’s mother while he was in France on the school trip. Tamaki staying home out of deference to his grandmother’s wishes made me sad. Poor baby just wants to be accepted.
The animosity between Hikaru and Kaoru this episode was unexpected, but needed. I’m so interested in their story arc and how they’ve decided that they’ll always be twins, but they need to be more their own people now. Hikaru’s hair transformation was a great addition.
Haruhi’s character is truly blossoming as the volumes continue. I like how spunky and unbothered she is by everything—except her feelings for Tamaki. The fact that she can’t figure them out on her own is hilarious. These characters are all so clueless about their feelings! Let’s see what happens.
I feel like this volume is the start of things escalating more quickly. Hikaru and Kaoru have decided to be separate beings and acknowledge their feelings- Tamaki is coming to an understanding of who his dad is and the role he plays in his family- Kyoya, despite his personality, shows how much he cares for Tamaki throughout this volume. Haruhi takes a "back-burner" role throughout this volume (which is sad but necessary)- the whole this was quite sweet, but takes on a more serious tone compared to some of the previous volumes.
高校ホスト部 (Book #12 of ‘Ouran High School Host Club’) by Bisco Hatori:★★★★ → ‘Even if each of us develops something important for himself and even if the day comes when, by our own free will, our branches split and diverge. We will continue to influence each other and we will continue to grow, using everything we share as nutrients.’
the character and relationship developments in this volume!!!!! i was literally losing my MIND. i love these characters so much. and of course i love love love learning more about tamaki’s backstory! he and haruhi just get cuter every volume <3
FINALLY!!!! the twins are evolving and growing as individuals but still together!!! tamaki i love you i can say that all day TT alsooooooo finally haruhi is showing her feelings THE DEVELOPMENT OMGGG FINALLY
