Oh my goodness, there are only FOUR more chapters left for me to read on Shonen Jump and I am SOOOOOOO not ready!
The Recette exam arc was VERY good! While I love Tsumugi, I sort of feel some of the side characters are a lot more fleshed out than her and Misaki. Though it doesn't take away my enjoyment from either one of them or the story as a whole! I just would love to get to know Tsumugi more as I think we saw some really good glimpses that could lead to some amazing character growth if the series had been able to go on longer.
ANYWAY! Tsugumi seriously is awesome! I loved the baseball vibes in one of the chapters and just how fierce and determined she is! When she used her lollipops in this volume, I was pretty intimidated because WOW! They were so big!!
I really really really like Umino! He was a partner to Tsumugi and all I could think was how I'm officially #TeamUmino! LOL! His character was interesting because he was nothing like I expected him to be based off his first appearance, but I loved learning his motivation and seeing him in action. He would make an incredible agent in the Sweets Police!
I thought meeting one of the antagonist was really good as well! He reminded my (physically) of Bakugo, which I found to be amusing. Though the BURN that Tsumugi gave him!! Ouch!
One thing I really appreciated in this volume is that Tsumugi is wearing shorts. I know that sounds like a small thing, but during the exam, she wore regular shorts. Not booty shorts or a mini skirt, but shorts that she could easily move around in. I wish we could see of more this in shonen manga because it made Tsugumi (in my opinion) a much more realistic character when in action scenes.
Lastly, the art was AMAZING! I really loved some of the blow ups and had to laugh at how tables turned (in a good way) for Misaki! He's such a good guy!
Overall, my only complaint is knowing this series is coming to an end! It has been such a tasteful adventure! ;)

This is a pretty fun series. We get to see the recette agent test, but since when is popcorn a sweet?

I'm quickly beginning to understand what this series is about. At first I thought it was a battle Shonen, but I'm quickly realizing that while it is a battle Shonen, it's also a surreal comedy. Very meta and self aware. Feels like it's filling the whole that Hard Boiled Cop and Dolphin left in my heart as far as the series sense of humor. I love it.

More "meh"but it is on the Shonen Jump app and I read just about anything on it as I don't have to pay extra for them. The art is pretty solid but the story is really goofy and not my cup of tea. It is a 10 minute distraction one time a week.

More of the same good stuff which is nice. Story-wise this covers the end of the exam arc and the beginning of the school invasion arc. The writing is the same quality as the last volume. So while emotional beats just sort of come and go the comedy always sticks. The author started interjecting some good running jokes during the fights themselves which work to the story's benefit. Considering this was near an axe its coming to its conclusion smoothly.
The art is still clean and crisp. The special effects are still the smoothest parts. It's on the "after the big attack move" where the art is at its best along with its more dynamic action shots. One thing I forgot to note in my review of the first volume was the use of greytones. The artist loves to cover a character in greytone to indicate they are on the foreground/background while someone else is on the background/foreground. It's a neat trick the first couple times but after awhile the greytone gets a bit monotonous and rough to look at. It's also used to create shadows and light different instead of hatching. I always appreciate greytones in a manga but it can be a bit much in some pages / chapters.
The humor and character dynamics are still the highlight. New characters come in and they each get fun little running jokes which make for a funny action romp of a read. Although feels a bit asynchronous with the rest of the manga's tone.
Compared to the first volume the extras feel a bit lacking. No omake at the end but looking ahead and judging from the amount of extras in volume 3. he character bios and short single panel skits in-between chapters are nice.
