I thought this one would have me in tears but it didn't. I think it had to do with the way it was written, while it's written in 1st person and you get all 3 of the main character's points of view, it was also very choppy. Add to that some grammar errors and it was too difficult for me to feel the characters and what they were going through.
Cait (h) had a rough childhood as the only child to a single alcoholic mother. From a very young age it was up to her to put her mother to bed and clean up her vomit, her only escape was her two best friends that lived across the street, Courtney and her older brother Matt. As she has grown up they were always there for her and now it's her turn to be there for them. Courtney is going to die from her cancer and hospice has already been called in. All Court wants is her brother and best friend with her for the time she has left.
Matt (H) didn't have it easy as a child either, when their parents died in an accident Courtney was all he had left in the world. They were too young to live on their own and while Courtney' s adoptive parents wanted him too he declined, knowing he planned on joining the service the following year. They allowed him to live with them until he enlisted though and those summer days spent with Court and Cait are something he will always treasure. How is he going to survive his little sister's death?
Cait know it will be extremely hard when Court dies. Cait has lost too many people in her life and while she knows it will hurt she doesn't plan on hurting long because as soon as Court goes she plans to follow her.
It was an overall good read, not brilliant but good. The addition that I had on my Kindle had loads of spelling mistakes, which made it slightly amateur. It was one of the things that disappointed me, especially seeming as editors and AUTHORS are suppose to check for these type of things, aren't they? Also, another thing that I found disappointing, is that I didn't cry, topics like the ones in this book make me cry! but this one failed to, may be it was how it was written, empathy and reality did not show through in certain aspects, but you can imagine a situation like the one in the book, but it really was a big let-down for me. Finally, I think that the book was rushed, the ending was quick and the passing of a character was very sudden, even though you knew it would eventually happen,it came quickly, which made the book feel have complete to me. Positives of this book though was that you could relate to both of the main characters, which I enjoyed! Also, I liked the past meeting the future and with characters who have lived and developed in their own way and for them to come together. If certain elements were changed, it would be a very good book.
Need a good cry?! Read "Finding Cait"! I do not cry with books... Let me repeat- aside from slightly moist eyes on very rare occasions... Reading a book has never made me cry... Until this one! I bawled my eyes out the entire time! Ugly cried! Whole box of tissues kind of cry! But it was so worth it! About love and loss, overcoming tragedy, and realizing that there's always a plan in life no matter how bad things seem to be. We go through times when we ask "why me?" This book shows the bigger picture and explains why. There's always a reason. Even for the ugly times. I would tell anyone I know (regardless of age) to read this!
