Find the lost kings. Break the curse. Save the realm.
Which is all well and good, but not for someone like me. I’m timid and small. I’ve always been good at growing things, looking after animals and children, that kind of thing. Fighting is not for me. I run, and I hide. Bottom line, I know my limits.
I lost everything when the plague hit, and Snow took over as our evil queen. Thankfully I found a home at the village orphanage, where I have remained for ten years. First as an orphan and later as a teacher. I’m content with my life. I enjoy looking after the children and tending to the gardens. Things are simple, which suits me just fine.
Until one day, while fleeing from the dreaded fae, I find a large egg in the Forgotten Caves. One thing is for certain, it’s no ordinary egg. It’s large and covered in scales. I instantly know it’s a dragon’s egg. There’s no doubt in my mind because the caves where I found the egg used to house the magnificent beasts. I can’t help but touch its warm, scaly surface. Imagine my surprise when a crack forms in the dragon’s egg, and from the crack, there is a lick of flame.
What happens next will change my whole life…
For lovers of paranormal & fantasy romance, this is a series filled with magic, adventure, and delicious tension. Each book will follow a new couple, but there will be major crossovers. Note that there are scenes meant for mature audiences only.
A Lick of Flame is the second exciting book in The Lost Kings series. I love all of Charlene's work this is a little different than the others it is more of a loose Snow White retelling.
There is action and drama, right at the start and it is full of paranormal goodness. They are Kings, but they don't know it. Evil has been cast amongst them with magic, Elves and more. The story would not be complete without a sassy, headstrong female.
Charlene has woven a captivating, tangled web of lies, suspense, drama and love. The characters are to die for, and each have their own voice in this series. I love that we get their POV because it makes them more real.
There are witty moments and humour that will have you laughing out loud.
A lick of flame is the next book in the Lost Kings series and is just fantastic❣️We met Maya in the previous book and she works at the orphanage. When Xander helped them to the forgotten caves, she glimpses something. Not knowing what it is, she decides to travel back to the caves and investigate. This leads to meeting a Fae by the name of Orion…suffice to say he is only just remembering who he is😳
I won’t say more than this, but I really enjoyed this story and I can’t wait for more of this series😍 I received an advanced copy and voluntarily leave my honest review.
A wonderful read, splendid characters and a simply wonderful scenario This is a wonderful second book in the series and I have to say that you will love the characters in this wonderful story that is both enchanting and is captivating reading. Snow is a delightful girl that has such a wonderful way with all types of animals, she is known for her kindness and gentle heart and I am sure that you will believe the same. She has been left with nothing since the plague has taken away every single thing of any worth, she had been living at the orphanage and had then continued on as a teacher which she loves and the teachers love her as well, she is also wonderful at caring for plants and gardening and puts these skills to use as well. When she is unfortunately caught outside when the Fae are on one of their hunting sprees, she manages to discover a cave where she hides in the hope that she will not be detected. When she searches the caves, she discovers some eggs covered in scales, she has never seen anything like the and she knows they are special. When she had been totally touched by the beauty of the eggs and had gently reached out to touch it she had been simply amazed when the egg had cracked open and she had found a surprise inside, only the lick of flame could have prepared her for what was to come and the responsibility she would have towards its occupant. I assure you that you will love every moment of this book it is simply a fantastic read.
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all their wonderful writing.
Not as good as the first book, but still fun. Wish a little bit more effort was put into world building and flushing out the non romantic part of the story. With a bit more time and effort this series could have been a really well done fantasy instead of the fairly standard romantasy we got. But that being said, it’s still cute. Though I felt the relationship between Orion and Maya was nowhere near as developed as the one between Xander and Thesha. Also where is Star? That sweet horse deserves more page time.
(Kinda Spoiler-y) Also felt there was a total missed opportunity with this story. The way Maya is set up as having a special way with animals, and a green thumb, and the fact she didn’t see her brother die- it was hoping it’d be revealed that she was from one of the other royal fae families. Maybe her brother was one of the other kings. Then she could have had the dragon bond on her own power instead of the weird round about weirdness of the story. Also why was there no attempt to explain why her losing her virginity would affect the tether? It doesn’t seem to be that way with anyone else. If it were then all the dragon riders would need to be celibate. It made no sense.
Another lady from the orphanage in book 1, Maya, touches the egg of a dragon, it burst Open, and a baby dragon appears. The once fighting Dante, finds his memories that were lost, and rejoices that he is Orion! But he's really upset with Maya for touching the baby dragon. The baby dragoned chooses Maya, and Orion it's upset He is as against a human as much as a human is against a fae, But the dragons bring them both together. They travel towards the beastfae territory, seeking a witch to undo the tether between Maya and Raila, the baby dragon. The tether gets broken by other means, but then it comes back stronger than ever! And Raila what's the tether back even stronger than before. Orion gets his dragon back, Maya now has her own dragon, they are United with the bloodfae king, Xander, and his mate Thesha from Book 1, as they go in search of the Ice fae King in Book 3. ENJOY
I thought the first book in this series was good but this one is amazing. Maya returned to the Forgotten Caves as she thought she’d seen an egg & when she found it she realised it was a dragon egg. When she touches it a crack appears, then a lick of flame & finally a baby dragon is born. Orion a Fae appears telling her not to touch it but it’s too late as the baby dragon is already attaching itself to her. Orion has only just had his memories returned & realised he is one of the Lost Kings. His dragon Delphine rescued him after his initial escape & has returned him to the Forgotten Caves but he will need help from Maya to get back to his lands plus he will have to help her break the dragon bond. There is a lot of action, dragons & the reappearance of characters from book one. This is such a great book with a wonderful storyline
This is the second book in this series and I absolutely loved it! Maya and Orion are amazing characters and I loved watching them grow closer on their journey. The world building this author gives us is just phenomenal! I loved the storyline in this. I was totally captivated from the very beginning and couldn’t put this down! Raila was just adorable and that turned into an amazing surprise! A very enjoyable and exciting story that I very highly recommend! This is my honest opinion of this complimentary copy of this book
Orion has been fighting in the pit for two years when all of a sudden he is awaken to who he is the lost far king Beastfae. Now he will use the beast in front of him to escape. Once he does he call to his dragon and she takes him to the forbidden caves what he finds there will change things. Maya isn’t sure what she has seen is true but she come back to see. Yap it is a dragons egg. Once she has touched it thing change. For the good or to the bad. So enjoy another good read and see where it takes them. Now we Waite tell December for the next!!
Great beastfae king awakening story from an unlikely human maiden. Their reluctant friendship develops as they try to remove an accidental tether to a dragon. Their journey is challenged by a bounty on their heads as in hospitable lands. They even discover Alexander the lost Bloodfae king. Great characters and fast paced read. Looking forward to discovering the next lost fae king!
I'm not sure if I want to keep reading this series. The "major" crossover was rather limited in this book. It seems like the author threw the crossover in just because it was mentioned in the blurb. Nothing was added to the plot because of the crossover. The minimal amount of sex was also disappointing. The steamy scenes were well done but there needs to be more.
I couldn't wait for this book to come out and it didn't disappoint! Orion is the lost Beast Fae King. Maya is a sweet girl living with nuns who was orphaned as a teenager. Their lives become intertwined for a while in order to save Maya's life. Its an extremely dangerous adventure. Orion and Maya's story is a slow burn but boy is it worth it. I love this series and this book!
I saw really great reviews for this book so I was really excited however this book fell flat for me. I just couldn't feel the bond between Orion and Maya and while the plot of trying to break this tether between Maya and her dragon was interesting, now that I've finished, everything just seems boring, which is disappointing. Unfortunately, I dont think I will be reading the next in the series
Great 2nd book in the series of The Lost Kings. When I read anything that Charlene Hartnady writes, I can actually "see" the location(s). The first book was good, this was even better so I can't wait for #3. If a book is written by Charlene, I need to read it and I have read many of her series. Keep them coming.
I am loving this series. This is book two and it gives more hints at how it’s all going to join together and I loved seeing Xander again. Orion and Maya were great together and I loved the dragons. I’m already looking forward to book three!!! I received an ARC and this is my honest review.
What a great second story to the Lost Kings series! I love the dynamic Orion and Maya have! It's almost an enemies to lovers feel. I love how their feelings develop for each other. I love the fire and heat in this book! I can't wait to see what Charlene Hartnady comes out with next!
This was really good! I enjoyed Orion and Maya’s story and was intrigued at the direction that it went. I can’t wait to read the next book in the series!
I read book 1 of this series and it led me to want to read book 2 I've gone through book 2 and it seems that I'm going to have to read book 3What does that tell you
This story had a bit more twist than the first but was equally enjoyable. It took a while to get to the end but the dragons, the tribes, and the big reveal was well worth it. Can’t wait to read the next book.
Adore baby dragons ! Maya and Orion are multifaceted characters and the storyline is full of action and adventure. Must read the books in order or you will be lost on what is happening. They start off hating each other and end up needing and wanting each other instead ! 4✨’s Can’t wait for the next book. I received a copy of the book from the Author and am choosing to leave this review.
