Olivia has been working at a hotel for the last 20 years. She is set in her ways and just goes along with everything that anyone wants her to do. But then, her husband unexpectedly dies and leaves her to pick up the pieces. She doesn't have a lot of friends, no family as she was orphaned as a child and only has her husbands brother to lean on, but he is not interested in being a support for her.
After the funeral and burial, no one comes back to the house, no one offers to bring food, no one offers any kind of comfort for her. She returns to her job to meet with her supervisor and requests a couple weeks of bereavement leave so that she can get everything put back together in her life. She is told that they do not offer that but, if she wants to take some time off her job will be there when she gets back but she will take the time off without pay. She feels she can't do that so bright and early Monday morning she is behind the desk doing her job of checking guests in and helping with requests.
Fate has a way of stepping into your life. Through the family attorney she finds that she has been left a house on the beach in Cape May, NJ. She doesn't know who or anyone that would have left her a house but learning that she must go to the house and accept it leaves her with more questions than answers. She is not sure what she is going to do until that Monday morning when one guest is particularly rude, demanding and downright obnoxious. She makes the decision right then she is taking time off and going to see her new house.
So many things happen when she gets there and as usual you will be going on a magical trip through Olivia's life as she discovers new friends, new opportunities and the beginnings of learning who gave her this house.

I like the way the story starts right off with the fact that Oliva’s husband had just been buried & the author doesn’t drag it out. She just jumps right into the story & mystery. Some lawyer calls & tell Olivia that she inherited a cottage in Cape May. Of course she has all kinds of questions, but he can’t answer any of them for her. She must go to New Jersey & Cape May to get all of the answers. The thing is the lawyer had told her husband about it before he died, but he never told Olivia about it. Why? So she go by the lawyers office to get the keys & anything else she might need. Then she on her way to ape May! She could believe when she got there that the cottage is right on the beach & later finds out that with the cottage comes a live in housekeeper! WOW! What other surprises are waiting for her? First she had to come to the Cape, now she is suppose to learn what other stipulations that go along with inheriting this beach house. I wonder what they will be? Will she be able to follow through with them. What to you think will be required of her. As always we are lift with a cliffhanger. I think this is going to be a good series. I love the way she started off & just jumped right into the story & didn’t drag it out. She drew you in right away & got you interested from the start.

After the death of her husband, Olivia learns that she inherited a cottage on Cape May. This was a surprise to her even though her husband knew about it but didn’t tell her. Now, on her own, her lawyer informs her that she must go there. She is told there are secret requirements she has to meet in order to inherit the property. A short distance away, she discovers an old winery that is being restored. She meets some of the residents including Jason, who own the winery. Jason offers her a job and he stops by one night. Together, they discover something very valuable and in her best interest, should not tell anyone about it. Join Olivia as she uncovers the truth about the cottage; the previous owners who left her the property, and whether or not she will keep it. What a great beginning to a new series.

Olivia has just lost her husband. She finds out that she has been left a house in Cape May, NJ, but there are several odd stipulations. First, she has to go to NJ, then she has to solve some yet to be determined mystery. Needing a break to get herself together, she decides to go to Cape May for the summer.

To her delight, the house is right on the beach and is spectacular. She finds that apparently the inheritance includes providing her with a live in housekeeper.

While exploring, she notices a derelict vineyard next to her property that is under new ownership. She volunteers to help clear up the property, but Jason, the owner, would rather she help out as an assistant. She begins to learn more of the history of both the town and the vineyard, which is a bit mysterious....

First installment in the Surprise Inheritance series. Does not end with a resolution.

Once again, I found a series on Kindle Unlimited solely based on the fact that it was set in Cape May. And yikes. The writing is bad. It’s stiff and choppy and lacking any sense of flow. The dialogue is worse - so expositional. The author does that thing where they write out the main characters thought process and do it in a way that’s so weirdly expositional and unnecessary. The plot is bat-shit crazy. It’s a series of hallmark movies/ PG romance/ mystery novellas. Had to give it at least 2/5 stars because I love Cape May, I do love a cheesy romance, it had some action and plot, and they were a breeze! Regardless of my thoughts on how cringy this was, I had to keep reading the series. Finished all six of these little novellas in the span of a day. Not the highest quality story-telling but I kept going for a reason, I guess!

She finds out her inheritance when settling Sam’s will but there are secret requirements she must meet in order to acquire the home. This is the first in the series and it already has me waiting to read on. The main character, Olivia, is dealing with the death of her husband when her lawyer tells her she had inherited property in Cape May, NJ. It is all very suspicious especially since her husband knew about it but didn’t tell her and being an orphan she knows no one in NJ. She decides to go to Cape May and finds it very nice with a beautiful view of the ocean and a full wine cellar. Construction is going on next door and she has met the handsome man who owns the property. Looks like this is going to be a great series.

This seems like a fun new adventure and a little mystery when Olivia, recently widowed, inherits a mystery house in Cape May, only she does not know who has left the house to her. Finding herself disillusioned with her job she decides to move to Cape May for the summer and just spend time for herself. She meets some of the residents and befriends them and thus begins a new adventure for her. I cannot wait to see what Ms Parker has in store for Olivia in her new life. So excited for this series.

Olivia's story has captivated me. After losing her husband, she is surprised to learn she inherited a cottage in Cape May and she has no clue who gave it to her. Now she is on a self explored journey of discovery to see where this will lead. The surprise characters that keep showing up are making this mystery even more intriguing. I am so invested in Olivia's story that I cannot wait to see how it unfolds!.

Olivia's husband has just died, she grew up in foster care so now she is alone again. She finds out that she has been left a property but someone in her biological family, but she has to go to it in order to claim it. Why did her husband not tell her about the property after their lawyer contacted him. Will she be able to find out more about her family by going to the property.

I am enjoying reading this book and am looking forward to the next book in the series.

Wow, a great starter book for this new series. Olivia's husband died unexpectedly from a heart attack. She has no family or friends to stand by her. A surprise call from her lawyer let's her know she has inherited a house in Cape May. She has know idea why or how that could happen as her husband wasn't close to any of his limited family. I can't wait to see how this unfolds.

This is off to an intriguing start as Olivia is told about a cottage she has inherited just days after her husband has passed. She journeys to Cape May to find this cottage only to be told that there are stipulations that must be passed before she can inherit. Mysterious, suspenseful and full of intrigue as we journey with Olivia to find the truth about the previous owners and why it was left to her. Looking forward to book two.

Interesting

This book grabs you from the beginning. She lost her husband of 20 years and feels so alone. She never had a family and her husband had not been close to his. After a few days her lawyer calls and tells her she inherited a house in Cape May New Jersey. No information at all. She must accept ownership in 30 days or lose the house. On to book 2.

Writing very smooth. The author knows how to keep you reading! The story is so believable but is also like a dream. One can only wish that this story was real and happening to the reader. Her descriptive scenery paints such a pretty backdrop that I wished that I was there.

a good page turner

Reading it on Amazon Unlimited. I don’t under why the writer seems to write in short story form. This is my second series of this author.

But I like the writer’s style. A mystery of sorts without being a murder mystery. Nothing too unbelievable, but still makes you want to read on.
