Reviewing this one is kind of tough. I did not like the beginning particularly, and I wish I'd stopped reading when I got to the epilogue, but the middle parts were pretty good.
I had completely forgotten the two previous books in the Crescent Cove series, so the fact that I felt plunked down into a story that I should have recognized is on me. I didn't catch on for quite a while until the Hamilton brothers rang a bell. By then, the two main characters had already had a steamy encounter and had done the deed. I'm never a big fan of when people have sex so early in the book because I just wonder why the heck they're doing it. I need to be invested a bit more in the characters for it to resonate with me. So I started out with a pretty ho-hum feeling about the book.
Then, as the story progresses, I caught onto their passion for each other. The situations were pretty good, and I did get a sense of who they were and why they acted that way. Realistic? Not particularly, but that was OK.
I liked the characters, and I liked that the story didn't go down some of the paths I feared it would. I was rooting for them to succeed and was happy when they did.
BUT, when I got to the epilogue, I felt the whole scene was superfluous and made absolutely NO sense whatsoever. It was a nonsensical repeat of what had already happened and did nothing to further their romance. I really, really disliked it. Also, it was a clear attempt to set up the storyline for the next book, one that sounds as if it's going to have a very similar plot. So far, I don't like the two main characters who have starring roles in that one, so I'll no doubt skip it. I don't want to put any spoilers into this review, so you'll have to read the book yourself to see if you agree.
I was given an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
