A woman disappears from her home. A neighbor says she saw a man leaving the house one night, carrying two bags, one large enough to hold a human body. The police find only a photograph, held in place on her dining room table by a knife. A few days later, someone starts out on a multi-state murder spree. Each time the murderer leaves a photograph behind, stuck to some surface by a knife. In each case the victim is one of the thirteen people in the photograph.
A great murder mystery with a double twist at the end.
Steve Demaree has done a wonderful job of weaving this mystery into a great story. A great book without any gory violence, sex, or profanity. It is a pleasure to read books by Mr. Demaree. I r e commend his books to everyone.
4.5 stars - yet another great outing from Steve Demaree. I love his writing style and the plot lines for his books, which are always well thought out and have brilliant characters. It is a nice break from the hard thrillers and crime books that I tend to read, giving me an easy to follow and quick read. The only negative for me was the fact that the ending felt a tad rushed in so much as the reveal, otherwise it was really enjoyable and I loved it
Another great mystery by Steve Demaree. I am never disappointed with his books whether those in a series or stand alones. He has a unique pull to the reader…makes you feel like he’s an old friend, and keeps your attention from beginning to end. I’ve read all four books in this series, and all 22 books in the Dekker Cozy Mystery series, plus everything else he’s written which should tell you something. I look forward to more.
I liked this book. It is more of what I expected in a novel. Mr. Demaree tends to repeat himself, but did so less in this book than any of the others. He also allows us to play detective more in this book than others. He stumped me though! I was going to move on to another author for a while, but now I believe I will look for the next one in this series!
While this is still a pretty good murder mystery, it doesn't measure up to the Dekker series... It's really because the characters aren't as warm, humorous and personal. Stick with what your audience wants... Cy, Lou, Helouise and the police department. Stay in the fast lane... and we'll keep buying your books.
I've enjoyed reading several of Steve Demaree's books, and I think this was my favorite so far. I like it because it is clean. I don't need foul language or sex scenes to make a book enjoyable. The plot was interesting, and the ending was surprising.
Lots of twists and turns I never had a clue as to who the murderer was. I rates it a 4 only because I liked the Dekker mystery series better. I miss My and My and their sense of humor.
This book like all of Steve Demanded books are all five Star reading. You feel like you are right there in all the towns and restaurants. I've read most of his books two or three times, always entertaining and the endings keep you at the edge of your seat.
Murder Among Friends ... OR ... Fun With Dick And Jane
I have to give the author credit for finishing a book of this size. No easy feat. Having said that ... writer to writer ... in my opinion it would be just as good with half the content.
Depending on Steve Demaree’s targeted audience ... if it's for grade school readers, then that's why it didn't appeal to me. While I think it’s a cute little cozy mystery that has potential for an older crowd, it is in dire need of a content, grammar and common sense edits. There are many blatant inconsistencies that need to be corrected. For example, at 59 percent there's a truck uphill/downhill situation that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. And at 65 percent, in Knoxville and Chattanooga, two people didn't die ... one died, one survived ... and this mistake was mentioned previously. There are also way too many repetitions that are jarring to this reader. There is no need for the in-depth and repeated explanations for the mature reader who doesn't need to have everything spelled out in minute detail.
I was tempted to quit reading many times but kept hoping the author would redeem himself. But, alas! It just didn't happen.
This book had a great plot with a nice twist at the end. It is much better written than the only other book I have read by this author but still uses very stilted dialogue and the motive was pretty weak. I also thought it a little odd that although the reader gets lots of background on each of the people in the photo and most of them "work," we never find out what that work is. Made for rather two-dimensional victims.
A really good cozy mystery. It kept me interested through the entire book. Most often I figure out who 'done' it early on, but I was totally surprised to find out who it was at the end of the book. As always, in an ebook, there were several words incorrectly spelled (if only I could use white-out on a tablet!). I look forward to reading more from this author!
Another fantastic read from the pen of Steve Demaree. I am a huge fan of the author and he never disappoints. This is one of his stand alone books and is quite different in style from the Dekker mysteries. It still has all the elements of a great cosy mystery, well-written characters and a strong plot. All-in-all, a great read. Highly recommended.
I love this author! As a Christian, I don't have to worry about having to put up with some of the stuff that is in other books, and his murder plots are different than the type that I am used to. Always something new. A series of murders and many of them are accompanied by an old picture of all the people on the hit list. Who will be saved, and who did it?
Another fun and suspenseful read from Steve Demaree! I fell in live with some the main characters in this book. If you're looking for a fun and entertaining read, I urge you to give this book a try!
