It’s never fun to get a diagnosis, so knowing your problem is a big help for your spouse and your doctor.

We’d like to think doctors are in the know on everything. The body is really complex, so they know much, broadly but thinly. Understanding these diseases gives you a leg up on your long-term prognosis.

The book is quite interesting. I was diagnosed with Colitis two years ago and never got much of and education about the disease.

C&C for Dummies is a big rush of information across numerous disciplines including diet, vitamins, discussions of how the body stores energy, prevention, surgery, and explanations of how your body works – among many more.

Your spouse may wish to read it as well, if only to keep you inside the lines on your diet. -Tom L.

Having recently been diagnosed with Crohn's Disease, and seeing the vast quantity of books written from personal experience, I was keen to read something that would just lay out the facts in as simple a way as possible. These books can be seen as a bit of a joke, but it did exactly what I needed it to do. It is repetitive, but when you're trying to take on board a lot of new information, that really helps. It is very American-skewed, so the bits about assembling a health care team and the ADA don't apply to non-US readers, but I really felt like I was being walked through by an expert, and whenever something was in question (which it turns out is a lot of IBD) the author made it clear what we really know and what is conjecture. Not every bit will be for everyone (I have no interest in the risks of Crohn's on pregnancy or raising IBD children) but there will be something for everyone, including people looking after sufferers. Just a great all-round intro to a difficult subject.

Hey look, I read a non-fiction book!
My other half suffers from Crohn's and this was very informative! We realized that we may have been accidentally triggering his flares with things we had no idea were potential triggers, plus things to watch out for and things he will need to do when he is in flare to keep him as healthy as possible.

Good resource for learning and understanding about this disease. Especially useful for people that may have family members with this disease. The knowledge gained will allow you to be understanding and compassionate.

So much information! But this was published in 2013. Stelara came out in 2016. I read this to understand the disease better, to help someone I know who has it. :)

A great overview about living (and maybe even thriving) with Crohns. My diagnosis is still relatively fresh but knowledge is power! I wish I had read this sooner.
