Amado Williams is a bestselling author of many bestselling books. He wrote his way out of the hood while starting out as a hustler with his boys in Parkside. However, his alter ego, “Low Key” has been interfering in his young adolescent life and caused a strain and break-up with his first love, Zola, who is now his baby mama. Amado has been monitoring his actions trying to keep his other side under submission over the last seven years while still raising his son. His ten-year-old son, Junior (Amado Jr.) is watching his dad’s every move while growing up trying to be just like him. Zola has moved on and is now happily married, while Amado co-parents Junior with Zola and her new husband. Junior sees the sadness in his father’s heart and tries to help Amado find love again. Will the success of Amado’s businesses be enough for him to continue with his life as it is? Or can Junior find him a compatible woman that can match his dad’s fly and heal the sadness that Amado hides?
I really enjoyed reading a story about a Father that was actively preparing his son for life as an adult. He still kept him close to him and guided him, but he offered trust, respect and love to him and that was my favorite part of the story. Junior literally carried this entire story on his back with his little smart self. There were some parts that felt a little too advanced for a 10 year old, but I imagine this is real life for some young people...especially boys being (co)raised by a man. I'm glad Amado found Passion and was able to support her in her endeavors while also courting her, even if it was a whirlwind. And I'm not mad that Low Key ain't too far gone just for the very reason that people forget or act like they don't know exactly who they're dealing with. I also loved the coparenting element of the story. And that although Amado still has mad love for Zola, he holds no bitterness in his heart due to his fumble. This was a good read. I binged it in one day, that's how I know I really enjoyed it.
I enjoyed this read. I liked the father and son dynamic! Amado and his son seemed to be so in sync. When Amado met Passion, it seemed love at first sight! They meshed together so good and became quite the little family. When Passion met Zola and Curtis, they all got along and despite the mishap with Derrick, all was good with the trio! I especially liked how well disciplined Jr. was and how he handled his situation at school.
Quiet doesn’t mean you’re not paying attention to your surroundings. However people should be aware that people who are quiet are more aware of their environment than those running their mouth.
hate that I’m as particular as I am, but that kinda take would be deal-breaker for me! and who cares if you’re from the West Coast? you could be from Pluto & still not say something that wild. The fact that Amado was a writer and still in the streets was giving me Goines vibes. and I loved how even the exes got along. GREAT STORY
