As the turbulence of the Civil War disrupts a nation, will one family be able to survive intact as they seek to follow God's will?

This is a book to open eyes God and true human love.

Michael Phillips has opened my eyes and heart to the goodness of God and his many blessings. I feel if more people read her books about slavery and how Gods love is all around us, we would all think differently. As I read this book and the others that go with it I was drawn in and could feel all the pain,the love and caring of these people. I have cried and I have felt Gods love.Please read her books about the civil war and the Davidson family.

Michael Phillips writes some of the best historical (christian) fiction I have ever read! I cried over some bits and laughed out loud at others. The fiction weaved in with fact, prodigal brother returning home, and innocent romance are all combined to create a wonderful story. If you like Lynne Austin this is a must-read series, and remember the preliminary ones!

An extensive, (652 pages!) tie-up-all-the-loose ends third & final book in a Christian historical fiction series that covers both the Civil War/Underground Railroad and the history of the Cherokee nation. I enjoyed the Civil War parts but wasn't that interested in the Cherokee stuff :(

The Davidson family continues to be involved in the American Civil War. Seth is a journalist photographer for a Boston Newspaper. Thomas is fighting on the side of the Confederacy. Their parents are still helping slaves escape to freedom. The Greenwood Estate is suffering loss, but Cherity finds a way to save it. The mysterious Mr. Brown returns, and Cherity learns more of her heritage. The stories of Blacks, whites, and the Cherokee are tied together in one family, devoted to serving God and in their desire to walk in obedience to His Will.

What a great ending to this trilogy, I feel bad for rating the 2nd book with a 3, when they fit together so perfectly!
If I could go back and change my rating, I would! You find out how the Cherokees tie into everything, that there were whites who were colorblind during the Civil War, and how Quakers were part of all of this too!
What a wonderful trilogy, with enough fact and fiction mixed together throughout, and Christ, that it was really worth reading all 3 books!

Very informative

While I enjoyed the storyline, I'm romantic enough to wish for more weddings detail. The very end regarding Quaker history was long to say the least. While informative not completely necessary to the story.. But as a background very welcome.
