“You are meant to succeed in the work you love. Your desire will take you all the way.” — Tama J. Kieves
What if everything you thought you needed to do to succeed was actually standing in the way of your success?
Tama Kieves, Harvard-lawyer-turned-career-coach, has spent the last decade crossing the United States and Canada, speaking to tens of thousands of people and sharing her inspiring story of moving from a career that was killing her to a life that has uplifted her, chronicled in her first book, This Time I Dance!: Creating the Work You Love. She has mentored thousands of people who, with her help, have followed their passion, and now live their dream lives.
And now she takes us to the next step in our journey…
Within you is your purpose—your destiny—that will lead you to your greatest fulfillment, and your greatest success. What Kieves discovered in her own journey is that the way to success is an inspired path, not a linear one. She brings her mentoring ideas and actions together in her latest work, Inspired and Unstoppable. In this motivating book, Kieves teaches that it is only in unleashing this purpose that you can become truly happy and satisfied.
Through these teachings, she will help you move into your “brilliant power.” She shares the mental and emotional impact of this journey—the fears, doubts, and boogeymen that arise—and how to become an unstoppable warrior for your life’s work and desires. This book will help you stay connected to your desires and shift your innermost thinking. When you do, inspired actions will seem to fall directly out of the sky, and onto your plate. You will naturally outpace anything any expert could ever tell you. You don’t need the steps, when you have the moves.
Beautifully written, Inspired & Unstoppable also includes success stories from Tama’s life and the lives of others who have made their dreams their reality, as well as practices that will create positive momentum, and “Inspired Successisms”—delightful, quick bites of wisdom peppered throughout the book. It also includes guidelines on how to create your own “Inspired Success Circle”—a way of moving forward with the support of friends and loved ones.
Practical, empowering, inspirational, galvanizing—Inspired & Unstoppable is the touchstone to (finally) living your wildest dreams and greatest desires.
It was February and I needed something to bolster my mood. There are some pretty thoughtful, supportive and funny encouragements in the book. BUT what makes me want to give this zero stars, is this otherwise clever and empathetic voice also uses a reductive approach towards Buddhism/spirituality/race and makes unnecessary caricatures of people:
"A small Asian woman, obviously the proud mother of the hat, clucked at me for putting it on...you might think she was neutrally suggesting another way to wear the hat. Oh, but not with that energy. This was militant. She shook her head and it was clear she would have to call upon the ancestors for purification..."
"I remember sitting on a plane next to a large woman who was a hard-core pro-life, hates-Muslims-Jews-and-gays, Bible-thumping kind of gal."
This sort of voice pops up again and again. ugh. Otherwise, her words and message can be wonderful. An editor should have caught those and helped her rethink how using salt (reductive doses of sarcasm) in a pie can totally make the entire pie inedible.
At first I thought the author is SO whiney and makes the entire book about "me me me me." But perhaps it's the way she talks on the audio book. I did wish she gave better examples, analogies, or other people's stories. And I still believe that this was a very braggy book. But I changed the rating to 3 stars rather than 2. There were actually a LOT of good nuggets to take from this audio book. However, being in the car, I couldn't really write them down. So it was alright. Not sure I would listen to it again. It was also very long-winded.
Nurturing, Witty, Wise and Insightful, I'm enjoying reading this in spurts for when I need an encouraging voice. Tama is the queen of metaphor--I am blown away by the brilliant metaphors and I love the playfulness and juiciness of the writing.
Love Tama's unique style of giving it to you straight about the choices we have to make, while also leaving a little room for magic and the wonder of the unexpected.
I would have given this one or two stars but every once in a while there was a tidbit that was worth the wait. Plus, at the end there are exercises or practices as the author calls them that make the rest of the book worthwhile. Perhaps ditch the rest of the book and just keep that last section.
The book could have been a lot shorter. There was a lot of fluff and new age type nonsense. It also seemed it was a therapy session for the author as much as it was aimed at the audience. Maybe by telling her story it made it more relatable but it seemed like it often focused too much on her.
More of a biography than a self-help guide in places 'I did this yadda yadda yadda...' which was a bit distracting - last few pages more relevant and what I wanted from this book although a little annoyed at the 'push' for 'financial contributions' and 'joining in' at the end too! As much as I criticise it - some good points in the book about how to perceive success and yourself.
I am feeling truly inspired and unstoppable right now. That is very much a recent addition to my feelings trinket box; an addition that was fired up by Tama Kieves' latest book, Inspired & Unstoppable – Wildly Succeeding in Your Life’s Work!
Kieves is the bestselling author of This Time I Dance!, which you may have come across.
Somewhat deliciously, Inspired & Unstoppable is almost as if you are having a conversation with Kieves: she writes so beautifully and with such sincerity, sharing her story and gifting you with simple – yet profoundly effective – practices, the Portals Back To Inspired Living.
Now, I have no intention of giving away too much of what is shared in this title BUT I really do think it is a book that pretty much ANY person who wants to feel inspired and unstoppable should read. Working with many entrepreneurs who feel as if it is their birthright to stay poor, lacking in abundance and flow, whilst they struggle along doing their life’s work, I feel sure that Kieves' latest title will gently tease and guide people, in her own inimitable way, to help you show up and take positive, powerful steps to wildly succeed and truly take on the emotional energy charge to help make you feel Inspired & Unstoppable.
Here are a few of my favourite Inspired Successims from the book: * Mavericks are misfits. But of course, what makes you different can also make you exceptional * It’s not you who empowers the gift. It’s the gift that empowers you * You have a power in you that is not of this world. That power will awaken the creativity and resourcefulness of other people … people who can get things done. You will have your people * Can you really know what the perfect timeline is for forging one extraordinary life? … and I really REALLY love this gem: * Purple people cant wear gray suits. The traditional fast track is the inspired person’s dead-end cul-de-sac
I have already discovered that the Mojo Mantras and Offerings practices really do help: checking in with yourself on a weekly basis, naming (your) next acts of devotion, is a particular favourite of mine.
I can't wait to take part in an Inspired Success Circle, which Kieves would love for readers to set up, and help to capture the innate essence of Kieves and really embed the practices and make a difference.
(I read an uncorrected proof prior to publication)
I may be a bit biased, as I did have the amazing opportunity to meet Tama at a writing conference in NYC where she signed a copy for me (making me more than excited to see what she shared in her pages), but I don't think that encompasses my entire reaction to her book. What I was not expecting was for the book to literally change my life while I was reading it. Her message was so strong that I dove right in and took actual action instead of just going, "Yeah! Yeah! This sounds amazing! I should do that!" While I could go into great detail about what the book is about, I think my review might be more effective if I just tell you what it did for me. While reading the book, I realized my own worth and made the startling and unsettling discovery that I was NOT pursuing my calling or living the life I want to be living. I wasn't even halfway through the book when I decided to quit my day job (which was starving me both personally and artistically) and follow a path closer to the one I wanted to walk down. What ensued was a series of wonderful new events that made me happier in a week than I had been in four months (all of which are chronicled in my blog at www.jconartist.com if you feel like reading more about what Tama's book did for me).
In short, Tama's book is not just another "self-help" book. She explains the universe the way it really works: as a support system for YOU, not the other way around. She shows you that not only are you beautiful just for being you, but that you have more potential in your left pinky finger than you give yourself credit for most days. If you are looking to change your life or just realize your own self-worth, pick up this book and witness all that it can do for you. She tells you her most important moments of discovery, urges you to recognize and respond to your own, and even provides a series of wonderful daily practices you can subscribe to to help yourself reach your goals more quickly. She's the real deal, y'all, and I'm not just saying that because I met her. But if you get the chance, attend one of her speaking events and see how empowered and genuine she is for yourself. I highly, HIGHLY recommend this book!!!
This isn't your usual rah-rah, go get 'em motivational book. Tama Kieves speaks to the power of belief, namely, belief in yourself. If a person doesn't have this basic understanding of herself, all the motivational seeds in the world won't help--they would be falling on barren ground. So Tama asks her readers to plug into and be grounded in the work that truly brings joy and the knowledge that they're meant to do it and do it well. The road isn't always easy and I liked how Tama illustrated this by sharing her own journal entries and discussing the times she all too willingly beat up on herself with negative self-talk. I also liked how the book is designed to be a kind of flowing conversation with her. The exercises are placed at the end of the book and are presented as suggested practices, not work you must do to succeed at what she's teaching you to do. This just made so much sense to me.
I connected with the book because this has been my journey these past two years, to be inspired and unstoppable, and I feel as though Tama understands all the secret whisperings of my heart. She knows inspiration requires work, but she also knows a certain amount of that work includes taking a break and making room for the magic to come in. Finding that combination has always been difficult for me because I’m all about working hard, but Tama is making me more confident in trusting my intuition. I'm sure I'll come back this material again and again as I continue walking my path. If you're someone who wants to make your life all about the joy and work you're meant to do, I recommend Tama as a worthy guide who knows the road well.
Tama Kieves is an enthusiastic, successful speaker who motivates and inspires others to pursue their dreams with confident passion. She shares her story about her career transition from successful attorney to living the life she dreamed of living: motivating others to step into their “brilliant power.” She describes the mental and emotional impact of her personal journey (including her fears and doubts) and "how to become an unstoppable warrior for your life’s work and desires." Kieves states, "This book will help you stay connected to your desires and shift your innermost thinking."
I purchased this book after attending one of Tama's workshops. She is an inspiring speaker who clearly is following her life's calling. This book details her personal journey and offers hope to those who want to live their wildest dreams and greatest desires.
A very worthwhile read for those blessed enough to be fully occupied in fields they already love and see life's purpose in. However, overall, despite the intensely inspired, witty, and quite original writing, I found the perspective a bit too 'spiritually obsessed' for me. Nevertheless, some great points worth considering and trying in that long road that you love but don't necessarily see much grass or flowers growing along the way. Probably the best advice, and this in itself is a great wealth and a massive blossoming of flowers and plants and colourful trees in the great search for success: More than anything, be grateful. And express it daily to yourself - that you are on the path you want to be on, no matter how materially meagre the rewards at the present time.
I LOVE this book. It's a book I wish I could write. She is saying, in her inimitable style, that you can do what you want to do--by listening to your inner guide. Which is what I've always believed, but just hadn't found out what it was I was supposed to be doing, exactly--until recently.
You can read all the guru books you want, and take all the (enter subject here) classes you want to get good at something, but ultimately, it's up to you to know what you can do, but even more than that: what you are willing to do. Tama says this in a way that makes me smile. Knowing full well (now) what she's talking about, because I am experiencing same. She is validating my life experience at the moment. That is the best 2 cents I can give. Thank you, Tama, for writing this book.
A well-written, funny, poignant, must-read for all creative career changers. Tama speaks of true career fulfillment as an evolutionary process beginning from the inside-out. There is a very subtle spiritual perspective to it, which I loved. I almost forgot that there were chapter exercises at the back of the book too. Tama helps you to redefine what success means to you and how it actually happens in your life.
Awesome book for becoming your Inspired Self. Great stories so you can relate to the teachings and go forward in becoming what you knew you always could be. Highly recommended for anyone searching for something more.
This is Tama Kieves’ newest book and I love it almost as much as her first. It picks up where This Time I Dance leaves off and dives into even more topics about following our calling, why it’s so important, and how to deal with the potholes along the way. It’s fantastic.
Whatever the real message of this book is was lost to me as I attempted to wade through pages and pages of overly-flowery, overly adjectivized and intangible prose, and over-the-top analogies that stopped me every other sentence. There didn't seem to be any "there" there.
Wonderfully motivating book. And funny. Tama puts herself at the readers level and doesn't assume to have life more figured out than the reader. She tells here story and what she has learned from it. Great book!
Supercharge your life by creating it just the way you want. Amplify your courage to step out and create a career that aligns with your life purpose. Funny and engaging, Tama has been there and shares her wisdom and wit to support you on your life change journey.
I just love Tama's style. Somehow she has the perfect mix of no nonsense pushes with the gentle compassion of someone who has struggled to find her path.
I highly recommend listening to this book, to hear Tama's passion and energy.
Haven't finished, but this is the best, most encouraging book I've read so far (and i've read a lot of em) on finding your dream/talent and living that dream.
I think I should have first read her other book "This Time I Dance". This one assumed that I already knew what it was I wanted to do with the rest of my life when in truth, I have no idea.
