Modifications (mods for short) are files that change certain aspects within Minecraft’s game content providing the player with new features and user experience. There are a lot of mods by now and their numbers just keep growing! The team currently developing Minecraft has even started slowly integrating some of the more popular features from mods into the core game itself. For example, horses that were introduced in 1.6.1 actually come from a very popular mod!
So, what are some the things that mods can do? First of all, some mods just coexist with existing content and provide the player more control and customization. Examples of these are mods that change the user interface, that create a mini-map or perhaps give you x-ray vision so that you can locate diamonds and dungeons. However, more complex mods will add completely new, unique features such as new monsters, blocks, weapons and much more!
