Peter and Lucien are back in this third book in the Soul Mates series! Following Soul Mates: Bound by Blood, and Soul Mates: Deceptions, Soul Mates: Sacrifice, picks up after a vicious attack on Peter's new paranormal family.
Peter may have rescued Lucien but his problems are far from over. Caleb, a vampire who was once a friend, is chained in the dungeon and waiting judgment. Peter's body is dying. He needs Lucien to make him a vampire, but no one knows what he might become if Lucien goes ahead with the change. With his control slipping, even as a human, Peter knows he has to cross over. But he needs Lucien to help him control his instincts, to keep him from hurting the people he loves the most.
As enemies gather and allies appear in the strangest of forms, Peter has to make choices that may affect not just his life with Lucien, but also the lives of the vampires and Lycans who look to them both for leadership. Their coven. Unrest among the werewolves, friends' betrayals, and broken emotional connections conspire to keep Peter off balance, looking to Lucien, and deep inside himself, for the answers. Answers that could cost him everything, including his life. Good thing Peter thinks some things are worth making sacrifices for.

This is the 3rd book in the Soul Mates series. In this book we find Peter & Lucien just days after the last book. Lucien is still recovering, Caleb still awaiting his sentence and Peter still struggling to find his place in the coven and his relationship. We see him struggling with his bond with Xander and Nikolas. And we find some small resolution with him and some old friends and the accepting of some new friends.
Okay, this book is just put together better than the others which just made it nice to read. It is also clear that this author does not write for the casual reader who will pick up a series and read them out of order. Which is great for me, because I can't stand to read a series out of order! But what it also means is there is pages of explanation of events that have already happened. If you're confused, pick up the previous book. She also tends to introduce a storyline in the previous story that doesn't get resolved for a book or 2. All devices that I appreciate.
My problem is that I seem to not really like the hero, Peter. I mean I understand that he is new to the world and he's still finding his place, but Lucien is his Soul Mate, yet anytime he's not with Lucien, he's sleeping with someone else. And even though their relationship is open, Lucien never does this, not without Peter being there. And in the beginning, they set ground rules of their relationship. They can be with other people, but they can never be the bottom for someone other than each other. And Peter breaks this, in their bed, while Lucien is there, after he asks if that is what he really wants. And then doesn't seem concerned even though Peter feel guilty. I'm hurt for Lucien. And while Lucien didn't say anything really, I can't imagine that this won't have some kind of repercussions. Especially since as guilty as he felt, 5 pages later he was thinking about sleeping with someone else.
I supposed my deep sympathy for Lucien and growing dislike of Peter is a good sign that I have fully committed to this story and these characters. I'll very likely be finished with this series in the next couple of days.
After the disappointing previous book(I gave only 3 stars to the second book of this serie) finally I'm happy again, and will give (without doubt) 5 stars!
Peter and Lucien relationship is certainly more mature and I like it! More characters has a better performance in this third book, such as: Silver, Nikolas, Logan and the sexy and funny incubus Sabaan (YEY! Love the ménage à trois with him! I was really expecting that scene after his appearance on the second book).
It's again a sexy and full of action book, and the serie is in it's right track again (I swear that after the 2# my fear was that the serie would be an annoying drama full of whining guys! )
This is probably the best book of the series so far. I liked Peter better than in the previous books, because it seemed he was beginning to take responsibility of his actions and he tried to do something instead of just letting things happen to him. Most of all I really liked seeing more time of Lucien and Peter together, because I think it's their story that we need to focus more on.
I must confess that it's still a little bit unclear to me how Lucien can stand Peter's sluttiness. I get that Peter has a very complicated nature - in this book we learn that he has Lycan genes - part Lycan and part vampire and, since Lucien is an incubus, he gave Peter some of this nature too. Peter's cravings, for sex and blood, are explained as a way of seeking energy, so Lucien is pretty forgiving of Peter's sexual prowess. I am less forgiving, because Lucien on the other hand can control it. There are hints that Peter is probably a very special and powerful being, so I'll have to begin to see him differently, not only as the attractive but weaker human, and he will certainly play an important political role in the following books.
There's something which is funny for a romance reader but it made me roll my eyes a lot: a lot of the men in the book are always jealous of someone else. They reminded me of teenagers in high school: X loves C and doesn't love me anymore! Oh no, he promised me he would be my best friend forever and he changed his mind! I love... oh no, don't tell the words, I'm afraid, no one really loved me, etc. etc. Drama queens. But still I love reading this series.
I was very happy to see the demon Sabaan and all he could do, to know more about his story, and how important he was in this book. Simon's story is becoming important too. It seems though that in each book something unpleasant happens to one of the most beloved character and they fall out of (Peter's) grace. This time it happened to Xander. It's a bit annoying.
Anyway, this is a very entertaining series and it gets better with each book.

Pretty much liked this as well as the last two. Won’t be reading the 4th since I JUST realized it’s been YEARS since the 4th book was out. Is Jourdan Lane MIA? Anyway,
I liked this series well enough to make it to book three. Has lots of potential but it felt like Ms. Lane had so many ideas and plot points she wasn’t sure which way she was going with this. Nothing was truly meshed out.
I would love to see all books reworked and republished but I’m not holding my breath.
Lucien is still recovering after being kidnapped and left to die. Caleb is in the dungeon for questioning and judgment. Xander is acting strange, spending less and less time with Peter. The team is without a leader with Caleb being gone. And on top of everything else, Peter’s body is dying. The cravings for blood are intensifying and there is a battle going on inside of him. No one knows what will happen if he is turned, which part of him will take over. But a decision must be made, as he is quickly running out of time.
Together, Lucien and Peter work to put their coven back together. Silver is pegged as a replacement for Caleb as team leader, but first he must defeat all others desiring the position according to dog law. Peter receives a personal visit from Daniel, with a particularly interesting request from the council. Whatever decision Peter makes will affect both his relationship with Lucien as well as the lives of their coven members. Peter struggles with forgiving the one responsible for what happened to Lucien and dealing with the potential loss of one of his closest companions. In the end, Lucien and Peter will make the decisions needed to move forward, for both themselves and for the coven.
Soul Mates: Sacrifice picks up right where Soul Mates: Deceptions left off and it is just as full of adventure and excitement. This series is based in a fascinating world with characters that are both well developed and captivating. Over the span of three books, the relationship between Lucien and Peter has grown exponentially and watching these two together is always thrilling and engaging. Peter has gone through so much, accepting both this new world and his role in it, and he is an excellent leader. He may not always know the right decision immediately, but his main focus is always the welfare of the coven members, those that follow him and Lucien without question.
As always, this world is filled with fascinating secondary characters that add so much depth to the story. In particular, we learn more about Simon, both who he truly is and what happened in his past. He is a quiet character, always there when Lucien or Peter need something, but underneath the surface is a heavy burden. There is so much more to learn about Simon, and I can only hope that he will play a large part in the next story. Also returning are Nikolas and Sabaan, two of my absolute favorite characters in this series. Nikolas and Peter continue to be close, their bond strengthening, and Sabaan proves to be a very useful asset for both Peter and Lucien.
Once you start reading, it is impossible to resist begin immersed into this world and its characters. Everything about this series is top notch and makes for an exhilarating and gripping read. This book could stand on its own, but I highly recommend starting at the beginning with Soul Mates: Bound by Blood followed by Soul Mates: Deceptions. Each book builds upon the previous stories and they are therefore best enjoyed in order. If you like these stories, I also recommend reading the other stories in the series, A Coven Christmas and “Possession” from the Spiked anthology. These stories provide yet another look at specific characters and are just as wonderful as the books in the series. Lane’s writing is exceptional and as always she ends this book in a way that is both a satisfying ending and an opening to the continuation of the series. This is just one example of Lane’s impressive talents and the beauty of this series.
“It was odd, the way things had changed so much in my time here. I'd come to realize that nothing stayed the same for too long. Whether it was the nature of the world in general, or the growth and stagnancy of relationships of the people involved in it ~ things would always change.
People would always change.
…
I'd gained friends, lovers, and a family here. I loved and was loved in return. Accepted for who and what I was. This was my home, in every sense of the word.”
I read the 3rd book, Sacrifice, just to find out what the heck Peter was going to turn out to be... but truthfully he was really on my nerves by that point, although I still liked Colin and some of the secondary characters. Peter is bitten by a werewolf and his body seems to be dying... he's not turning into a vampire or a werewolf so there's a question and a mystery there. This is the only thing that kept me reading at this point. Some scenes were quite tough to read, especially when his body's dying and he's half out of it and all of a sudden you know there's another threesome or sexual scene involving Peter in the offing. What the heck? Wasn't he just dying? But he has enough energy for a threesome? Really? The mystery of Peter's turning is resolved by the end, although of course there are some threads left hanging that I'm sure are picked up in the next book.
After reading the first three books in the Soul Mates series, I found that there's only one real monster and that is the "Green Eyed" one: Jealousy. It is the cause of all the petty shit that goes on. I've never seen such a big bunch of needy, jealous men who are supposedly Alpha and all that... but that well... are not.
But to be honest, what really frustrated me about this series was the fact that although I was frustrated with the weaknesses and characterization in the storyline, I couldn't stop reading the darn books! Yes... this is one of those series that catches you unaware and gets you all hooked and next thing you know, you can't stop reading it. Huh!
I will give this book the same review I gave the first two books in this series Soul Mates: Bound by Blood & Soul Mates: Deception.
One of my down falls when it comes to reading, is that I read so many books that I can't remember ALOT of them, therefor it takes an amazing book that I literally can not put down for me to remember it, THIS IS ONE OF THOSE AMAZING BOOKS!
SOUL MATES: SACRIFICE has everything that I love in a vampire romance: sex, romance (dahh), passion, danger, blood, awesome supporting characters and of corse strong/sexy main characters.
I will not go into the plot and specific characters of the book because I think you should all read it for yourself, although i will say that i love every single character in this book. It also sets it up well for the next book in the series. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys any of the things that I have listed above.
Also I would like to add that I have read every book in this series at least 5 times, and I loved every word every single time I read it!
OMG, This series is HOT, Exciting, Just excelent - I so love this book and even doing the happy dance because Peter was finally turned, only he is more than a vampire. His abilities haven't been revealed yet but I have a feeling he will have just as much were-wolf abilities as vampire abilities.
I was in shock when Nikolas got the oportunity to make love to Peter especially since Peter and Lucien had made a pack to not let anyone touch their hole but the two of them. I was immpressed at how undertanding Lucien is.
Also I admire Peter for being so smart and thinking about the coven and wanting to make changes to improve their world.
Also, I hope the deal for Peter and the council works out, I think that would put him in a political position that will help out their coven.
Look forward to reading the next book in the series.
I couldn't put this book down, so it only took me a few hours to read it. It was FABULOUS! While it didn't have the same "ooomph" as the first 2, the storyline moved along nicely. And FINALLY.......................................PETER WAS TURNED!!!!! Was SO happy to read that.
Of course this book had A LOT of wonderful and intimate yet raw and dirty sex scenes which I loved!
So........what's up w/ Rhys and Simon? Can't wait to find out their story.
Felt a little bad for Caleb but he deserved what he got. Will be sad that he's not apart of the "inner circle" anymore but hell..................we've got Nickolas and Sabaan!
Can't wait til book #4 arrives in the mail. This is such a great series!

Damn, I was so worked up in the last book when Lucien came up missing and I didn't things could get any more intense but man was I wrong...Peter is dying and it's killing me...Peter is going through so much and he is questioning everyone around him, their motives, if their feelings for him are real...this series just keeps getting better and better. I'm so glad that I ran across it. Again I highly recommend it. This has everything in it...a human well sort of, vampires, weres, a couple of angels and a demon oh my...Hot, sexy, and oh so entertaining.
Peter is dying, he is becoming 'harder' in his feelings and is acting more like a leader. His trusting nature has been knocked and he is changing in more ways than one. (He still can't keep it in his pants though. lol)
We find out more about the sweet natured Simon and the Demon Sabaan makes more of an apperance.
I think this is probably more like a 4 star book but given that I neglected my family and most of the tasks I was supposed to tackle to day to read it in it's smutty entirety...I think I had to boost my rating. And Jeebs it's like a rimfest on every other page *SQUEE*
I am loving these books! The emotions that it pulls out if me ugh I love it! I love when I read a book a nd I can forget about all that is around me and all I see and feel are the emotions the writer intends for us to feel. I love peter 😍 I love lucsin. I love Nickolas ( I think hes my favorite) I hope be finds someone to love too... Oh and Xander and Caleb! Anyway since I stayed up way too late finishing this book I will be going to bed and starting the next as soon as I wake lol 🤣
After reading this third installment of the Soul Mates series, I’m finding myself wanting to know more about Simon and Cyril, his brother. How interesting would it be to read a book telling their story of how Simon lost his wings and how Cyril went from being a Watcher to a Warrior? Jourdan Lane delivers a ten times better story than the second installment, Soul Mates: Deceptions. I’m excited to read the fourth and final novel in the series to find out what kind of leaders and lovers Peter and Lucien turn out to be. What sacrifices will Peter have to endure in order to enter this immortal lifestyle with the ones he loves and cares for, who have become his family, including those who break his heart? Is the price too high? Should Peter make the best of the last nights he and Lucien have together? Only reading Jourdan Lane’s best Soul Mates book yet will reveal the sacrifice.
Third in the Soul Mates series, Sacrifice starts right after Deceptions ended. Lucien is recovering from his abduction and torture. It's been proven that Caleb had a hand in the abduction so he's been locked away in the mansion's dungeon. Peter is dealing with the aftermath of his accident and the fact that there is no longer a choice about his turning, with his body dying he needs to be turned but what he'll be once it's done no one knows.
To make matters worse for Peter his relationship with Xander seems to be deteriorating as he feels Xander pull away from him more and more. At the same time his bond with Nikolas is strengthening. Another concern for Lucien and Peter is that with Caleb locked up the team is without a leader and he needs to be replaced. Added to all that is a series of mysterious fires and a visit from a Council member with an astonishing offer for Peter.
In keeping with the first two books the central theme is still Lucien and Peter. They continue to have problems as they try to deal with Peter's relationships with both Xander and Nikolas and Lucien's growing jealousy of those bonds. However, they still love each other very much and when they are together they are scorching hot.
This book will also feature more of Silver, Sabaan and Simon. Silver will play an important role in the security of the coven and will be both a help and an annoyance to Peter. Sabaan will also be a big help to Lucien and Peter and his relationship with Nikolas will be explored as well. As the book progresses a few of Simon's secrets will be revealed and his back story revealed a bit more.
Once again Jourdan Lane's writing grabbed me from the first page and kept me totally into the book until the very last page. This fantastic book was another action-packed roller coaster ride and I'm happy to say it's not over yet. Previous books in the series are Bound by Blood and Soul Mates Deceptions.
This is the third book in the Soul Mates series and picks up within a few days after the end of the last book, Deceptions. I found this book to be very well written. You definitely have to have read the first two books before reading this one though, or you will have no clue what is going on, or who anyone is. There was some explanations made here as to what was going on with Peter, biologically speaking. We finally learn a little about his past and why he is having these "episodes". And, biologically speaking, things aren't going well for Peter. There is a lot of unrest going on among the werewolves. Bonds are being tested. But Lucien and Peter are definitely getting warm and cozy during this one and Sabaan and Nicklas help them out too on more than one occassion ;o) Needless to say, this one was as hot as the other two books, the characters are rich and full of life, and there is lots of action, as well as loads of tension. Looking forward to getting started rigth away on Secrets.
I think that this is my least favorite book, in its entirety, of the first three books of this series. It would maybe be 3.5 stars if there was that option, but since there isn't, I have to go with 4 stars because I still do love this series and the characters...
Something was missing from it, really, and I can't explain what. I hated the deterioration of some of Peter's relationships and somehow, as an avid vampire-lover, his change was almost too easy (or then the writing wasn't as good as it was in the previous books, anyhow, I waited for more).
The drama there was, the big event in the end of the book and then the punishment of that person afterwards (yes I'm being annoying and vague, sue me, lol), both were sort of... Meh. Nothing special about them. Setting the stage for the next book, maybe? I suppose I shall see. It's just that book 4 hasn't really gotten that good reviews...so I'm worried.
I'm giving this series a bit of a rest and I'll read something else next... Book 4 after that, maybe?
I love this series. By far one of my favorites in the paranormal genre. I love the relationship between Lucien and Peter. How it has matured and changed along the series. I can't imagine 2 more perfect characters together. Peter still at times irritates me with his whining but it is getting less and less as he grows stronger. I love how his character involved and him being both vamp and wolf is amazing. I can't wait for the next series to see how Peter handles his "Huge" strength and abilities. The only thing I didn't like about book three was what happened with Xander. He was one of my favorite character and to see his position in the circle change so quickly was sad. As much as I like Nikolas, I still felt cheated losing Xander. I hope he finds his place in a later series. Over all this book is my favorite in the series so far and I can't wait to start book 4

It's been a while since I read the last book in this series so I wasn't sure how much I would remember. Imagine my surprise when it all came flooding back to me with the first insanely long and drawn out sex scene. Oh yes, this author knows how to write sex that can last for up to five pages or more. It's, well, exhausting really. I also remember now why I put the series down after the last book. I love the idea of the story, Peter sharing the leadership of the vampires and Lycans with his soulmate, Lucien. But if you're a fan of monogamy or mates, forget it. Peter has so much sex with so many different beings, I started to lose track. I won't be picking the series back up again I'm afraid.
If you like gay vampires this series is for you. Very well written and very erotic. The models on the cover of these books fit perfectly to the characters. And what a cast of characters.
Lucien, a vampire, seduces Peter. The first time they have sex, Petere lets Lucien bite him and their life together begins.
It has vampires, werewolves, demons, vampire hunters.
I really love vampire stories because there is always eroticism associated with them. I really would love to see a movie or series made out of this, but with all the adult scenes too. ;)
I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
I love how much Peter has evolved. Watching his personal progress is absolutely my favorite part; next to being a rapt spectator to his relationship with Lucien. There were a few parts that made me pause. But I may just be forgetting some details from book 2. Anyway, I can't wait to see what happens next!
Peter is really growing up in this book. I like how he is starting to realize how his actions effect others and how the nature of the coven and his new life require things he didn't expect but now understands. I was disappointed by how little you really see of his relationship with Lucien. It is there but just seems to be in the background to the other relationships. I couldn't believe Peter kept how sick he was and what was to happen from Lucien. I don't buy the excuse either. I'm sorry but most people would be running to tell!
Like the two previous books, Blood Bound and Deceptions there are LOTS of hot, steamy, sex scenes. But in this one we get some ménage à trois action. Which I loved I had been hoping something like that would happen for so long. I mean with Peter and Lucian in love but the other guys around.. well anyways
The plot was pretty fast paced, definitely sexy but also somewhat shocking, because of information we learn.
Altogether wonderful book, maybe my favorite so far.
Nice, but... I don't know, there was something in the book, and I swear, I don't know what it really is!!, that left me a little perplexed. May be is the fact that the end don't looks like an end at all.
Hope it will be better with the next book. By the way, I like Sabaan even more, now!!
3.5 this was probably my least favorite of the series so far. Peter is slightly out of control in his bed partners. This book was very much pwp, alot of pwp. I think I would have liked it alot more if the book was slower paced. It felt like to much was happening in a short amount of time, with an amazing amount of sex involved that didnt help the plot move on, it was just there for something for Peter to get all torn up over. Overall if you have started to read the series, definitely read this one if for nothing else but the plot points to help you read the next one.
I am an addict. I freely admit it, but plan to do absolutely nothing about it but read every single volume in this series, for just as long as Jourdan Lane writes them. The characters are so vivid, so compelling, that you find yourself cheering them on, hoping that with the next turn of the page (or click of the mouse) that they'll triumph over their personal demons.
Each book in this series ramps up the suspense a little more. This time there is so much going on I could hardly keep up. Peter dealing with his 'illness', Lucien recovering following his kidnapping and almost death, fire, explosions, Council offers, new lovers, old grudges, and an angel who lost his wings. 'But in the end Peter and Lucien are together and moving forward towards their future together.
