Fresh out of college and twenty pounds lighter, Helene is ready to fall in love, take chances, and figure out what she wants from life. But working as a paralegal in a Washington DC law firm turns out to be more complicated than she anticipated. When faced with a corruption scandal in her own firm, Helene must decide who to trust, who to love, and when to rely on her own instincts. This delightful contemporary romance novel features the turning point of youth, when life is all about making mistakes and falling in love for all the wrong—and sometimes all the right—reasons.
I was very nervous about reviewing this as I think this might be the authors first book and only wanted to write positive things and since I am not a big lover of CHEESY romance novels I was worried this might be hard. However the book wasn't as cheesy as I expected though they were many elements were I went 'huh' and had to re-read to make sure I had read it right, it was enjoyable and I did feel the urge to finish it. Though the relationship between the main characters didn't really interest me and I'm not going to lie there were many time when I rolled my eyes at how predictable the protagonist is (a blonde haired, blue eyed girl with self-esteem issues)I enjoyed reading about the protagonist working and the cases. I can't imagine this book doing very well but I think if the author steered away from what people 'want to read' I can imagine her doing well sometime in the future and I wish her the best of luck.
For being C.K. Finn's first romance novel, I found this to be very well done. Helene has found herself in a new body and new job, both of which come with new possibilities. Exploring sexuality is not something she has found herself in before, but will be whirled away by it while trying to distinguish love and lust.
Touching Helene kept me very intrigued and turning pages all the way through, yes some areas were a bit predictable as another reviewer stated, but Finn does a fantastic job of adding enough twists to make you want to know what happens next even if you believe you know the ending.
