Walter Brueggemann was an American Christian scholar and theologian who is widely considered an influential Old Testament scholar. His work often focused on the Hebrew prophetic tradition and the sociopolitical imagination of the Church. He argued that the Church must provide a counter-narrative to the dominant forces of consumerism, militarism, and nationalism.
This book spoke to my heart in ways that were deeply challenging but also so refreshing. Brueggemann is a gifted scholar with a knack for inviting his readers to use their imagination and find themselves within the text. This was a beautiful exercise for me and I’m very grateful for this book of sermons which ministered to me in the ways I would hope to minister to my own congregation.
I know there must be things that I’ve missed by reading these sermons rather than hearing them spoken but God still worked and moved in and through these words on a page in beautiful ways.
