Looking for some peace in her life, FBI Special Agent Cassidy McKenna leaves the Bureau, retreats to a sailboat on the Chesapeake Bay, and struggles with the recent death of her husband and her shaken faith in God. When her former partner, Jake, is assaulted and nearly killed and then her marina is torched, Cass knows she must find out why. She believes the crimes are connected and unofficially investigates, not knowing that she is both the hunter and the hunted. She must connect the evidence, help Jake deal with his brain injury, and find the perpetrator before she becomes the next victim.
Linda writes "white-knuckle fiction"--FBI thrillers with a twist of faith--from her home in rural Virginia. She's had careers as a government worker, a stay-at-home mom, and a journalist. Her husband, Larry, worked at the FBI Academy for over 25 years. Together they have three grown children. These days, Linda stays entertained by two cats and a Sheltie who tries to herd them. When she's not writing, you can find her walking in the woods, at the beach or doing something (anything) with dogs.
A widowed FBI agent moves back to her childhood home to try to get back to a semblance of normalcy. In these sorts of books, that's not going to happen. A scientist is killed. There's fires at the marina. Someone nearly beats her former husband's partner to death.
She tries to find out what is happening, while the partner tries to recover from his beating and has a come to Jesus experience.
This one took me awhile to read, but only because I was reading it on my Kindle, which I only read when I'm at work. Anyway, I thought this story was really good and enjoyed the read. The suspense was great and I found myself constantly trying to solve the mystery and getting thrown off the trail with a nice added twist here and there. Only one unsolved mystery... the author never said who the man in the floppy hat was! Cassie was a really relatable character and I found myself really enjoying her personality. Definitely glad I picked this book up for my Kindle!
While not the most gripping, it was a really entertaining read. The book was obviously well researched and the setting of a busy bay was filled with wonderful imagery and really allows the reader to see the scenes as they unfold.
This was my first read of Linda J. White and I was impressed.
The plot was fast-paced and the whodunnit was not easily figured out.
I enjoyed learning all about the Chesapeake Bay area, food, birds, and foliage. It was a vibrant setting and made me want to visit.
I lost a daughter a few years ago and the grieving widow was written so realistically and intimately, it was almost hard to feel her pain. The faith of the Christians was real and the way they talked wasn't preachy and self-righteous. A few teary scenes, for sure.
There were a few instances where scene breaks weren't used between POVs and I would lose traction for a few seconds.
Very good book. I didn't want to put it down. I did guess early on who the culprit was, but that is okay. I almost always guess. Good story line, great characters. I enjoyed Bloody Point!
This book needed another round of developmental editing. The transitions between dialogue, setting, narrative and inner dialogue were choppy. Much of the story/dialogue felt contrived (like I was reading a version of Carmen San Diego where every conversation had a juicy clue). My biggest disappointment was that the motivation of the bad guy was completely unconvincing, and I was left with: "Why would he attempt to kill 3 FBI officers? Why would he Perdue a relationship with one of them, and also follow her around everywhere - only to kill her?". His motivation didn't seem strong enough for such risk. I loved the ideas and intent in the story. I wish it could have been scrubbed more thoroughly once or twice for a more convincing story with fewer loopholes. I loved that she wasn't afraid to include the difficult questions many people have with their faith - unfortunately, many of those conversations felt contrived as well.

I thoroughly enjoyed this debut novel by Linda J White, and I can't wait to read Battered Justice, book 2! Intriguing story with themes of friendship and redemption.
Leaving her job, FBI Special Agent Cassidy McKenna retreats to her sailboat on the Chesapeake Bay, and struggles with the recent death of her husband and her shaken faith in God. Despite leaving her job, she still finds herself caught up in murder, mayhem, and mystery. Her former FBI partner is attacked and left for dead after leaving Cassidy's boat. She finds herself being tailed, is she the next victim?
I loved Cassidy's aunt Truly and her wise ways that help her friend heal, and her little dog able to sense incoming seizures.
If you love intriguing, page-turning mysteries, with great characters, and important themes, I highly recommend stories by Linda J. White!
This book has great characters with depth and a great mystery with suspense, twists, and some great action scenes. I enjoy the way God is sprinkled in as part of the story. I love the depth of emotions the characters have and that their lives aren't "perfect." It is a very entertaining book.
I have been reading stories by Linda White and have thoroughly enjoyed them. This new series is about best friends and partners at the FBI. Cassie loses her husband to murder and Jake his wife to divorce. Solving a case from the sidelines they found the murderer they were looking for.

Another exciting book! I have read a couple of other books by this author and I would read them again and again.....each character is so real and events are believable! I am so glad there is a sequel to this one!!
The storyline moved a little too slowly for me until the last 2 chapters. I am familiar with the setting, so it was nice to read about somewhere I’ve been. A real look at grief and faith, as well as good mystery.
Another great FBI suspense book by Linda White. I was pulled immediately in to the tense plot. Could not put this book down. I highly recommend this book.
It's a little bit predictable but still a good drama mystery. Had me turning pages to make sure that I got to the end and saw that I was correct on who the villain was.
even thought book 1 seemed like came in in middle of story but it was all cleared up as book went along maybe maybe not on finding the rest of the series
This is kind of a mixed review of Bloody Point. On the one hand, this book was just too wordy--lots of extraneous descriptions of places and events and extra long gospel discussions, beyond what was needed for local flavor, faith-promoting discussions, or framing the story. So I scan-read a lot, which is ordinarily an automatic two stars. On the other hand, and aside from the wordiness, I liked the story and would read another book by the author so that is why I rate this 3 stars.
OK, note to self: this appears to be book one in a series that is not noted on Goodreads. I do like Jake and Cassie and that is probably why I would be open to reading more by this author. So I glad to know there is more to their story, even if I will scan-read.
