The vibe was completely off in the first act of Troubleshooting SQL Server: A Guide for the Accidental DBA, like a friend telling a story and getting every detail wrong. Hang on, though. Once Jonathan Kehayias drops the main character into an abandoned roller rink with a stranger and a stolen briefcase, the whole thing gets sharp and weird in the best way. The scene where the lights flicker on and the disco ball starts spinning on its own is a total mood shift. The opening is clumsy and over-explained. For readers who like a rocky start with a strong payoff. Pass if you give up on books easily.
