The Leven Thumps Series

Rate this book

Foo, the place between the possible and the impossible is a realm inside the minds of each of us. It is a place that allows mankind the power to hope and imagine and, most important, to dream. Leven Thumps, once an ordinary fourteen-year-old boy from Oklahoma, has a special gift that he is unaware of, a gift that could save the dreams of all mankind. Join Leven and his friends from Foo as they embark on an unFOOgettable journey!

Leven Thumps and the Gateway to Foo: Fourteen-year-old Leven Thumps is no ordinary boy, but that's exactly what Sabine and his dark shadows want him to believe. The evil forces know the fate of the world and the dreams of all mankind can be saved by only one boy with a powerful gift — a gift he has yet to understand or control.

Leven Thumps and the Whispered Secret: After escaping a deranged dream-master and destroying the hidden gateway, Leven Thumps and his band of travelers must now journey across Foo and restore Geth from his shape as a toothpick to the rightful king he once was. But Foo is still in chaos, and Leven must overcome several adversaries and survive the Swollen Forest in order to save his friends and keep hope alive. As fate would have it, nothing goes as planned, and even Geth begins to wonder if they will succeed. Bad goes to worse as Leven digs up a long buried secret — one that stalks him, determined to whisper a truth that could be deadly in the wrong hands. Through it all, Leven finds the courage to do what is right and continues to discover an inner strength and a power he never thought possible.

Leven Thumps and the Eyes of the Want: Hold on to your popcorn! In book three, the war to unite Foo and Reality has begun. Not only must Leven race across Foo to stop the Secret before the deadly truth is revealed, he must travel to the island of Lith, the home of the Want — the manic dreammaster who can give Leven the gifts he needs against a foreboding army of rants and other Foo beings

Leven Thumps and the Wrath of Ezra: The dreams of mankind are in grave danger as the Dearth, the true evil beneath the soil, rises above ground and slowly gains the strength he needs to defeat Leven Thumps. Leven, now the Want, is also gaining strength. Will he discover his new power before the Dearth finds him? Sycophant

What kind of power is raging inside that sliver of wood? Get ready to ride a Wave, release a Longing, find the Invisible Village, travel by rope, wrestle in chocolate, and, of course, dream the impossible! Join Leven, Winter, Geth, and Cloveron the most unFoogettable adventure yet!

Leven Thumps and the Ruins of Alder: In the fifth and final volume of the epic saga of Leven Thumps, all of Foo is rushing madly to exit the realm of dreams while Leven is headed in the opposite direction. Fate snatches him to the island of Alder, where he is poised to pass or fail the final test.

Obert Skye read his first book at age two. He wrote his first story at age four. And he was nearly trampled by a herd of water buffalo at age six. For a short time, he lived on the Isle of Skye in Scotland, where he spent time as a candy-taster. Several years ago, Obert Skye says, he discovered the existence of Foo. Publishing his story as a fictional series was not Obert’s first choice. Nevertheless he is content that the “history” is being told.

I pick up books for my son to read, but end up reading them myself. I really enjoyed this series. The characters and story line are captivating and you just can't put it down. I found myself anxious for the next book in the series to be released. Yes, this is for young adults - but aren't we all young adults? What is wrong with reading something you wouldn't be afraid to have someone see on your bookshelf?

There are books that are seemingly written by a dry English teacher: technically perfect but the story and/or characters are lacking. Then there are books where the story and characters are interesting and have potential, but the author's writing (or lack of good editing) gets in the way. These books fall into the latter category. Interesting premise, fun/mostly likable characters, but the writing drove me nuts. I learned to skip the first paragraph of every chapter because it was an unnecessary ramble. Boring parts were drawn out and exciting parts were breezed over. There were so many different made-up animals/places/people that even by the last book I was still referring to the glossary in the back to see what was what. And the ending! The story gets drawn out for five books and then it ended so abruptly that I seriously had to check to make sure a chapter hadn't been accidentally left out of my book. I don't need a "Return of the King" wrap-up, but a LITTLE more closure would be nice. I'm not sorry I read them, but I don't think I'll ever read them again.

For starters, this is one of my favorite books of all time!!! It's incredible!!!! I don't even know what to say it's so good; there's no way to explain it. Plot, characters, setting: amazing!!!! Obert Skye is so talented!! I love how he explains things in random ways and I love how he's in the story but not at the same time. It's a wonderful way of reasuring readers that Foo is real, not pretend!
P.S. Isn't Clover hilarious?

This is one of my all time favorite series! I'm glad that I found the series when all the books were already out, because I wouldn't have been very patient in waiting for them one by one. I loved the characters, especially Clover. The only disappointing thing about the series is that I can't have a Clover of my own, which is something I had never thought about until I began reading the books. Obert Skye is a wonderful author, and I am definitely interested in reading more of his work. If you're looking for an awesome adventure, read this series. You won't be disappointed!

The adventure continues. Leven, Winter, Geth, and Clover do what they can and what they must to try to save Foo against seemingly impossible odds.

Clever and imaginative. The author's asides at the beginning of almost every chapter added greatly to the enjoyment. This series would be a fun read-aloud for elementary or middle school-aged kids.

The universe built was unique and interesting, as well as the characters, the powers, etc. I haven't read it in a while, but I remember it wasn't to my taste as a kid. Maybe my opinion will change now, maybe not. Anyway, I don't plan on reading it again anytime soon. Still, it's good for kids starting out on the "long fantasy fiction" road :)

I thought this book was nothing like Harry Potter as everyone said. Yes he is an orphan and he has poor eye sight but I think it ends there.

I really enjoyed the book from the start, and thought the author was quite clever. I listened to the books, and I find that I'm really enjoying books on cd.

I really liked the books when I was younger, like 10 and 11, but now looking back, I thought the first book was a bit dry, and I feel that the author has WAY too many characters.

I did really like the books though, and despite everything I still do. Will always have a place in my heart.

This is an interesting series. My family calls it the toothpick books, they just can't get past it. It's been fun to read a series and have the kids read it. Pure entertainment for us.

Fair to middling fantasy series. I was a bit disappointed, to tell you the truth. Try Fablehaven if you want an author in a similar genre and the same publisher.
