Rate this book
The Omega Force Omnibus Edition, which includes books 1-3, chronicles the adventures of the ragtag group of mercenaries in a story that has been best described as "Firefly meets the A-Team."

Omega Rising
(Publication Date: January 27, 2013. Revised July, 2013.)

Jason Burke was a man hiding from himself in a small cabin high in the American Rocky Mountains when his simple, quiet life was shattered one night by what he first assumed was an aviation mishap. But when he investigates the crash, what he finds will yank him out of his self-imposed exile and thrust him into a world he could have never imagined.

He suddenly finds himself trapped on a damaged alien spacecraft and plunged into a universe of interstellar crime lords and government conspiracies, along the way meeting strange new friends... and enemies. As he struggles to find his way back home he is inexorably drawn deeper into a world where one misstep could mean his death. Or worse. He desperately wants to get back to Earth, but it may be the end for him.

... or is it just the beginning?

Omega Force: Soldiers of Fortune

(Publication Date: May 5, 2013.)

Omega Force is back!

After the daring rescue of a political dissident, Omega Force is contracted to investigate a rash of violent attacks on civilian shipping lanes within a group of star systems known as the Concordian Cluster. It seems a simple enough job with a huge payday at the end and it's exactly what the ragtag group of mercenaries needs in order to keep their ship flying and to stay one step ahead of those hunting them.

However, the further they delve into the seedy underworld of the Cluster the more they realize they may be in over their heads. With innocent lives hanging in the balance, Captain Burke and his crew begin a desperate race to uncover who is responsible for these attacks, and why, before their ultimate goal can be realized.

Omega Force: Savage Homecoming
(Publication Date: September 20, 2013. Edited by Monique Lewis Happy.)

Ever since he joined Omega Force, Captain Jason Burke has lived with the underlying fear that one day Earth would be discovered. His desire to keep Earth's existence and location a secret has driven him to extremes, and kept him far away from his homeworld for a long time.

But now Jason's greatest fear is realized, and a fleet of alien ships has attacked his planet.

Omega Force rushes to Earth's defense, but the ships are like none they've ever encountered, and employ weapons they have no defense for. Will their lone gunship be able to slug it out with the unknown fleet holding the planet hostage? Or will this be a one-way trip for the crew of the Phoenix?

Omega Force Series.....

Omega Force Series.....

A wild romp through interstellar space, starting in "today"'s world and careening through multiple galaxies. A ptsd war vet, alone in a mountain cabin gets sucked into a venture that against all odds moves him into a new life as well as a new career that embodies personal desires as as a sense of worthwhile accomplishment. A great read, a lot of fun, and I can't wait for the next volume.

I must just face it. After sitting 48% through this book (untouched) for over three weeks, I'm just going to admit that I have no interest in finishing this book/series. I purchased the Omnibus (books 1-3) based on several high reviews, but I just don't see it. I made it through book one, and about half way through book two (hoping that things would get better after the author had the first book under his belt)... throwing in the towel.

From the beginning the book immediately struck me as amateurish in writing style. It seemed that many a sentence was unnecessarily long, others just, well, choppy is probably the best way to describe it.

The characters are pretty one dimensional, and none "grab me" in any significant way. The characters' decision making seems contrived and shallow, particularly with the way the characters bond and gel (instantly) as a team, despite their backgrounds. It isn't terrible, but just... doesn't convince me they are making choices based upon their backgrounds and prior experiences.

To me the book reads like a narrative of a role playing game adventure.

Interesting Read

I like the concept of the series, a lot of thought was put into it. My only problem is that you know the good guys are going to escape & win no matter what the circumstances, similar to many other series. I hope future books will have some turnover of the team, just to add a little variety to the series. I will probably continue ready in the future, hope it stays as exciting as the first 3 books.

My new favorite author

Just when I think this author can't get any better, he does. The battles and the humorous dialogue are ongoing and incredibly entertaining. I'm reading more than a book per day. Never before have I blown through so many words so fast. Orson Scott a Card, move over. Joshua Dalzelle is now my favorite science fiction guy.

If Malcolm Reynolds selected a team from the Mos Eisley cantina to crew DS9's Defiant the result would look a lot like Omega Force. This is an enjoyable, fast paced series that doesn't need or bear excess analysis. Highly recommended as a summer or travel read.

Lots of potential...

This is on the omnibus books 1-3. I found the story to be pretty decent but I had some issues with the MC. I found his petulant anger displays did nothing for the story and just made me like him less for being somewhat childish. Also the complete lack of effort to learn anything put me off, came across as lazy. Lastly the just dumb moves, going into full attack at max throttle/speed with absolute disregard for consequences and danger to others just made him seem somewhat stupid. I had to skim fight scenes three times because of mc idiocy. Other than that I enjoyed it enough to try book 4. Here is hoping this twit of an mc will grow up a bit. The captain of Serenity he is not.

Excellent start to a new series for me about an outer space adventure!!!

Great stories and great character development in all three books. The books have plenty of action from start to finish. I will be buying the next three our whatever is available for this group of space adventurers!!!

While I have read other books By Joshua Dalzelle, that I REALLY enjoyed. This one, while fun and a rollicking adventure, was just a bit too juvenile and the characters a little too one dimensional for me.
I will certainly read more of his books, however.

Sci fi at its best. I really enjoyed this book/trilogy. It kept me up reading, I could hardly wait to see what happened nest. Character building and world descriptions were great. I felt like I was part of the story and could see what was happening as I read.

Fun Space Opera type Fiction

Ray Bradbury or Asimov it isn't but for a fun sci-fi adventure it is a good read and a fun trip. Enough nitpicking to keep you interested and the writing style is clean and flows well together.

Yes it follows a formula, but it's fairly well written and the characters are a fun, motley bunch. The author might take a shortcut or two to use "technology" to bridge some plot issues, like everyone speaks a different language.

Couldn't tell you if my favorite was Crusher or Lucky...

Space opera

While it could use some serious proof reading this is an interesting story about the space version of The Lone Ranger.

I've read through book 6 - the "end of the first season." Someone here on Goodreads described it as "The A-team meets Farscape." I think that's a pretty good description. Here are a few more odd thoughts.

Throughout the first 6 books there is a mystery. Maybe it's about the ship, maybe it's about the people who chase them sometimes.

The banter among the team members is terrific, although in my view it borders on too much of a good thing.

I like the space battles. Jason Burke appears to have a knack for this kind of thing. He gets ideas and they almost always work.

The whole point of the series is to put Kage, Lucky, Crusher, Doc, Twingo, and Jason into set pieces where they can use their skills to beat the bad guys and to have fun and make money doing it. The 7th member of the team is the ship, the Phoenix. It kind of reminds me of a DC3 in space - has a special balance of speed and power, instead of a special balance of lifting capacity and fuel consumption. You have to wonder why the Jepsen company stopped making them.

It's kind of fun to think of Earth as a backward primitive world. Jason is the fish out of water - the only human in the quadrant other than on Earth.

Deetz was an interesting character, but his flaws led him to do some really terrible things, even on Earth, and he had to be put down. I have to wonder how the Omega Force would do with two more battlesynths and one more synth pilot. There must be lots of synths out there that would enjoy being treated like people.

Read the whole thing, it's a fun ride on a fun ship. I like the characters and hope to see them continue their mission of playing "The Equalizer" for people who need the help.

It's a shame this isn't good. I really wanted to like it as the space opera genre is hard to find good books in.

It reads somewhat like it wants to be a movie or a video game. The narrative shifts from Jason (the main character) to his surroundings/sub-characters. This makes it hard to get into any of the characters in any real depth. Jason comes off a lot as an uncompromising immature child, which makes him hard to like.

The more mainstay female characters are sadly treated as objects of attraction without any significant character or meaning. This isn't only disappointing from a story perspective but slightly grinding as the books go on and they are more involved.

There is great opportunity to salvage this series in the later books as the premise is fun and light. I sadly can't see myself picking them up.

I got this set of the first three books because it looked interesting and had pretty good reviews on amazon. The story telling is pretty good -- I've enjoyed it enough to buy the rest so far, and, they're quick, fun reads. In this particular case, the formatting suffered in the second and third books. There were no page breaks or even font headers for chapter breaks. While it didn't kill the experience, it was a little bit annoying. There have been small editing errors here and there throughout the series - instances where the wrong form of a word was used or one's fingers got ahead of one's brain (i.e., "you're" for "your" in one case, "dimply" for "dimly" in another). Since there's an editor attributed, this is somewhat disappointing to my inner grammar nazi. Still, fun read, enjoyable characters, nothing that requires one to think too hard.

I stopped at 17%. This was one of my worst reading experiences so far. I was not able to get immersed in this book at all because of unpolished writing style. I couldn't decide whether this is supposed to be a comedy or action/adventure. It appears to be a mix of all of these, but that would be fine. I liked hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy, which I think this book wants to resemble. The worst are parts where the writer doesn't want to go into the details, because obviously he doesn't want to work that out. The strange thing is that he still talks about the stuff he doesn't want to explain in detail. Usually: he [the main character] had no idea how [insert new gadget's name here] worked, but it did [effect]...
I just didn't enjoy reading this at all, always being thrown off by some stylistic glitches.

This series started slow. At first it was borderline ridiculous and I had a hard time getting through first book. The writing and story line got better and better. I have read all 8 now and I'm waiting for the next one. The author fleshed out the characters and storylines. This series is a fun read and would make a good TV series. I rarely reread what I call pop corn space operas, but I have reread several of Omega ebooks.

Very entertaining

This was a very enjoyable story. Hours and hours of entertainment.
The beginning set my adventurous side on fire.
Wow, I'd, of course, give up my meager life for a ride into outer space and the unknown and hope for the best. If I were a spaceman . . .da da . dada da . . dadadadadada . Da

Fun read

I have really enjoyed the first 3 books a bit campy and but entertaining and a page turner, I plan to get the rest of the series, if you like different kinds of science fiction and such as sg1 and firefly you should enjoy these books.

well done

Excellent story. Even though it begins a little stilted, the yarn that is spun throughout is well worth delving into. Now, I have to go find the next book in this series.

The story was great, however it would have been a lot stronger with better editing. Despite the editing issues, I would get the next book in the series.

Loved this series of books. The snarky dialog, the fresh characters, the "Buck Rodgers" heroes. It was a fun read. A great little literary snack.
