Jane Savoie is one of the most recognized names in dressage, and for a good reason. Her accomplishments and the breadth of her influence are impressive. She has been a member of the United States Equestrian Team and has competed for the US in Canada, Holland, Belgium, France and Germany. She was the reserve rider for the Bronze medal winning Olympic dressage team in Barcelona, Spain. She has been long-listed by the USET with several horses and has won nine Horse of the Year awards and three National Freestyle Championships. Ms. Savoie is as well known as a coach, writer and speaker as she is for her competitive accomplishments. She was the 1996 and 2004 Olympic dressage coach for the Canadian 3-Day Event Team in Atlanta and Athens. She also coached several top dressage and 3- Day Event riders in their preparations for the 2000 Olympics and while in Sydney she helped rider Susan Blinks secure a bronze medal for the US dressage team. Ms. Savoie has written five books that have been published both in the US and abroad. Her best-selling sports psychology book That Winning Feeling! is in its ninth printing and has been translated into several languages. Her dressage training books, Cross-Train Your Horse and More Cross-Training, are rapidly becoming popular reference books for riders and trainers in all disciplines. Her fourth book, It's Not Just About The Ribbons, is a sequel to That Winning Feeling! This book is an essential addition to your library if you need help with negative emotions like overcoming rider fear, impatience, or lack of self-confidence.
I discovered "That Winning Feeling" over 25 years ago, just before I showed my first dog for the first time. I have read it again many times since then, always before I show a new dog for the first time. It really helps me get my head in place and focus on what's ahead. I share my copy with every new competitor that I train with, so they can improve their performance as well. "It's Not Just About the Ribbons" takes the same principals and expounds on them. Once again, I feel mentally prepared to enter the ring with my dogs, which is a good thing! I am off todat to show two of my dogs at their very first shows! Get this book! You won't regret it!
I listened to the Audible version but ended up buying the hardcover too so I could take better notes. This is a such an inspirational book for anyone! It focuses on horse training and showing but the content can be applied to so much more. Personally, I am using it for my dog training and showing journey. I highly recommend both the Audible (narrated by the author) and hardcover book!
Good book with clear exercises how to manage competition stress when competing with an animal companion. More horse specific than the "That winning feeling!" book.
Good read on sports psychology and general well-being. Visualization and self-talk are the biggest takeaways - should have a significant impact on my riding.
This book by Jane Savoie is a must-read for anyone who suffers from pre-show jitters. Jane Savoie is an accomplished rider who shares practical and very useful behavior modification tools to turn sabotage behaviors into winning behaviors. When I was competing regularly, or even just training and riding, I used this book as a bible. It helped me in other areas of my life as well. I loved this book...
