"Alkaline Diet Explained: A Guide to Balance Your pH, Lose Weight, and Regain Your Health" by Daniel Adam specifically states on Amazon.com that it is 32 pages long, so I don't understand the criticisms re: its brevity. That notwithstanding, I believe the book did EXACTLY what its title says: it EXPLAINED what an Alkaline Diet is and can do.

My wife has a friend, a lady in her 70's, who is incredibly healthy... almost disgustingly so! She is a big proponent of maintaining a pH balanced body. She doesn't carry an ounce of extra weight, her skin is clear as a baby's, and nobody would ever guess she is older than perhaps late-40's. Consequently my wife has recently become interested in "alkalinizing" our diet. Since that means MY diet as well as hers, I wanted to know a little bit about what (and why) are the benefits of a pH balanced diet.

I borrowed this book "free" with my Prime membership, and was delighted with the opportunity to do so. At the same time I also obtained another book on the topic which happened to be free today. Between the two of them, I feel I've learned more than enough to support my wife by eating the "correct" foods, cutting back on (or cutting out completely) the "bad" foods, which is pretty much everything I've eaten my entire life.

Virtually all the negative aspects of over-acidic consumption are represented in my medical files. My kidneys are failing, I have lupus, I have migraines, I have fibromyalgia, and so on. All of these are examples of INFLAMMATORY disorders, which are a direct result of excess acidity in the diet. Period. It's as simple as that, and I feel like a moron for all the damage I've done to myself over the past 60 years.

However, as noted above, this has opened my eyes. Like it or not, I'm going to cut back on the red meat and sugar-laden soft drinks (and a whole bunch of other things I've always eaten), and start eating right. Longevity is one of the purported benefits of an alkaline diet, and with my present health issues I don't anticipate much more longevity if I don't make some serious changes right now. So I am. Starting right now.

As soon as I finish this bowl of ice cream. ;-)
