Jolene Jolene Jolene she has done it again! Holy Hades the second book in this trilogy took me by storm and Lord Have Mercy I could not put this one down either. My poor family they had to eat take out because I refused to put this book until I was finished reading it. Addison is a spoiled rich brat who gets what she wants and wants what she gets. Her parents are not really around so she and her little sister are left alone to do whatever it is they want. This gives Addison a pretty bad attitude and when she wants something she will stop at nothing to get it. She also knows she has a secret and that secret is she can manipulate people into doing things she wants. A simple touch and she wishes them to do something and they do it no questions asked.

As this gift of hers is used she finds out that she is not the only one that has this gift. Enters Dean lord I loved this boy. He did not have the best life growing so he does not abuse his gift like Addison. All Dean wants to do is find his brother and move on from his tragic life. But as fate would have it the two of them are paired to do a project and Addison and Dean soon realize that yes they have a gift but something or someone is lurking in the background and Addison's father may know more than what he is letting on to. Dean sees the shadows but what do they mean? Are they there to harm him and Addison?

Addison will have to press her father for answers and she is not so sure she wants to hear them. If she and Dean are going to solve this shadow mystery they will have to uncover the secrets of the shadows. Will they be able to in time?

So. My review is OBVIOUSLY biased, lol.

(also. you really don't NEED to read Insight to follow this one...)

I love what we learn in this book.
In Insight we learn a bit about where the talents might have come from.
in this book we get a glimpse into an organization that uses people with talents.

My favorite part about writing this is that Addie can hear Dean's thoughts, and he forgets. Often...

I love Dean and his aversion to noises.
I love Addison and her aversion to germs.
I love that they both had tight relationships with their siblings.
And I love that this book turned into a bit of a road trip book, which I did not expect when I first started to write.
I also love that we meet two new people, but still get a good glimpse into what's going on with the characters from Insight :-D

GAH!!! This was awesome! It's funny because there seem to be a ton of well known contemporary YA/NA/adult Indie/Self-pub stories out right now, but not many YA paranormal (that I'm aware). This is fantastic, and so unique. I love the voices Jolene creates. If you haven't read Insight yet, I highly recommend it, and you're going to want to read Manipulation right afterward. Highly enjoyable. :-)

Giveaway on my blog (INT) http://somelikeitparanormall.blogspot...

Addison is a rich, beautiful, and privileged girl that always gets what she wants, literally. Addison can touch a person and manipulate them into doing whatever she tells them to. She gets arrested without having the chance to touch the person an manipulate her way out of it. She is assigned to a life lessons class where she meets another manipulator Dean. Dean is in foster care and desperate to find his brother and broke some laws trying to find him. When Addison touches him and tries to get him to do things he realizes she is exactly like him. What a great team they could make.

When the second book in a series follows a different characters I always get nervous I'll miss the couple from the first book but I actually loved this couple even more! Also the couple had dual POVs which I love! Both books take place in the same time line so there are little clues and even a prologue and epilogue checking in with the couple from the first book. I loved Addie because she was snarky, smart, yet sweet and down to earth. Even though she might not be used to the things in Dean's life she always tried to understand and relate. They both had younger siblings they loved more than anything and that created a bond on top of them sharing a similar and rare power.

The shadows are back although I'm still mystified by them. They follow those with talents around and legend says they want to capture them but mostly they just made them cold. lol The book also dug more into the Middle Men. In the first book it showed the dad involved with them and following into this book we hear Addison's dad talking to the dad from the first book. It is all weaving into a large conspiracy. Slowly things are coming together with little clues about who they are but I am still interested in why they want people with talents. They seem evil the way they collect people with powers but we still don't know what they do with them exactly. When Addison becomes aware she grabs Dean and they head out on the run because it is probably best not to find out.

I loved watching their relationship build and I'm a sucker for an on the run plot line. Throws a couple together into exciting circumstances so you can really see where their feelings are. I loved that Dean was always up front and honest and kept telling Addie he really liked her. Addie was getting over heartbreak so she was a bit afraid and closed off. Their powers were a bit of a struggle too since they can both manipulate each others minds. Addie was worried that when she touched Dean, she wasn't doing what she wanted but what he wanted. And like I said he always made it clear he really wanted her so she was worried his thoughts affected her. Dean is patient and kind. While on the run they build a lot of trust. I loved their relationship. I ended up enjoying this even more than the first and I am now looking forward to the next book Seeker!

"I'm a moron, looking for a kiss where I'm not going to get it," I tease.
"Dean." She shakes her head. "Don't. When we kiss I don't want to feel like you forced it on me." She starts down the ladder.
"Wait, did you just say, when?" As in, you think that at some point--"

"Why am I hanging out with you?"
"Cause I'm damn near irresistible." He winks. Winks!

"I think I will go absolutely, completely insane if I can't feel your lips against mine."

After reading Insight (see review here), I was itching for some more understanding into the Middle Men, their motives, and the reason behind the talents. Jolene definitely delivered!

Addison and Dean may come from very different parts of towns, but they have the same exact talent. They can force others to do what they want with just a single touch. Addison is from the wealthy part of NYC, while Dean is a foster kid living in a small apartment. When they are forced to meet at a court mandated life skills class, they realize they have much more in common than ever thought possible. Addison suspects that the people her father works with are collecting people with talents, Dean and Addison together must find a way to survive on the run.

At first glance, Addison is a spoiled brat who cares more about appearances than what is on the inside. But that’s not Addison at all. She cared so much for her little sister and would do anything for her. She’s very beautiful and definitely has a lot of spunk in her. She has her ways of getting exactly what she wants, and she can be very cunning. She is selfless, as evident in the great decisions she made that could have been detrimental to her.

I love Dean so much. He is gorgeous and kind and has had a hard lot in life. Ever since he was separated from his brother after they were placed into foster care, he never gave up looking for him. He also protected Addie from all the bad buys trying to get them. So adorable.

I horribly dislike Addison’s mother and father, although her father redeemed himself a bit at the end. They were pretentious and annoying. Ellie, Addison’s sister was totally cute and nice, just like Dean’s brother. Katy, Dean’s best friend, was really quirky but cool at the same time, and she definitely had Dean’s back. One of the best parts of this book was being able to see Landon and Micah again. I definitely missed his laid-back attitude and her gift!

The plot had everything that I found lacking in Insight. I was captivated and totally excited to read on and solve the mysteries. (Yes plural!) We still don’t know everything about the purpose of the Middle Men, and I am psyched to find out more! I love Jolene’s writing, especially since we got to experience both Addison and Dean’s POV, whereas we only got Micah’s side in Insight. I can’t figure out what romance I love more. Dean and Addison had some smoking chemistry, and I loved how they had the same talents. With their gifts, they can basically talk to each other, just while holding hands. I love they way they connect perfectly.

I am super excited for Seeker, the final book in the trilogy. A new girl, a new boy, the resolution to the mystery…can’t wait!

Favorite Swoon-worthy Quote: We’re so close to the same height that it’s easy. He leans toward me. I lean toward him. Our arms are still at our sides, neither of us willing to taint the moment our lips touch. His breath breezes against my face. I inhale and our lips touch – like I pulled him to me with my breath. It’s soft but sharp, like heat that shoots through me. My need and his need mix together and pull us closer, closer. I don’t know how we got here, but as much of our bodies as possible are pressed together. His hands are on my face, in my hair. My arms are so tight around him I can barely breathe within our closeness, but I love it.

As seen on Ed and Em's Reviews!

Manipulation is a sequel that ties in very well with its prequel and adds a great installment to an interesting series. Though it wasn't perfect, it was an simple, fun read, perfect for my day of lounging around the house.

This novel can be read with or without the previous book in the series, though I recommend reading Insight, book one, first. It gives you a better understanding of the powers and history around which the series revolves and you will know all of the characters that are mentioned when you read the two books together!

This is definitely not the best written book I've ever read. In fact, it's what I'd consider a guilty pleasure. Manipulation is definitely enjoyable. It is a great read for fans of paranormal young adult romance. It's a strangely addicting story. The author easily draws you in and holds your attention until the very end!

The story begins with Addison Price, or Addie, as she is affectionately referred to by some and Dean in court. Addie had been forging train tickets to sneak around with an older boy, who is a friend of her family's. Dean had been trying to find his little brother, from whom he was separated upon entering the foster cares system. Both have been using their ability to manipulate other to do these things. When brought together by a court-ordered class, the two bond over their "power" and begin to fall for each other. But the shadows and those who want to use their abilities are closing in quickly. If they want to stay free, and alive, they will have to work together to find safety.

Forming a connection with Addison Prince, the female lead of this story, was not easy. It took awhile for me to like her because she is extremely spoiled. The fact that Ms. Perry was able to make Addison relatable and redeem her was excellent though. It felt like she really grew as a character, and don't you just love when that happens? My favorite part about both of the main characters is their obvious love of their siblings. It's also an awesome way to bring two love interests together. Dean is super dreamy, so there's that as well. I loved pretty much everything about him. None of the minor characters really stood out to me besides Addie's father and her "friend." By the end, I appreciated Addie's dad, but didn't really care for him. And don't even get me started on Addie's horrid friend, and horrid "boyfriend," if you can even call him that. What jerks!

One you start Manipulation, it's very hard to put down. The story just kept sucking me back in, when I tried to be productive. (Sorry, mom.) This book is an easy and fast read, which is one reason I liked it so much. It doesn't take a whole lot of time, or effort, to become involved in the story!

That being said, this book is pretty cliche. There was some insta-love and a few obvious plot twists. The writing seemed pretty amateur during some scenes, almost like the author tried a bit too hard, but overall, I really enjoyed reading Manipulation! It definitely had its faults, but it was entertaining and I definitely plan to read the final book in the series when it is released next month!

I received an e-copy of this novel from the author for my honest opinion and review.

Manipulation is the second installment of the Shadows trilogy. Manipulation introduces two new main characters, different from the first two in Insight. While I enjoyed Insight, I can't say that I loved it. The two main character's romance progressed way too fast and the progression of the plot felt unrealistic to me. However, for Manipulation, I have to say it was as if Perry heard my complaints of Insight (even though I never voiced them anywhere) and then created Manipulation. I adored Addison and Dean and found them to be so likable. Addison is the rich girl while Dean is the foster kid. They meet during this mandatory class issued by the court (each got into their own kind of trouble) and that was when the story started. What makes Manipulation a paranormal novel is that both Dean and Addison can manipulate people through implanting thoughts in their heads. Imagine the things I could get away with if I had this power? *daydreams*... ok back to the novel.

The progression of the plot was slow, especially the romance, something that I found rather satisfying. Addison battles with whether she should let Dean in to her life and heart or not since she just recently got burned by a guy, while Dean just doesn't think their lifestyles is something they might be able to get past.. realistic problems right? but then we also have the shadows they seem to be seeing wherever they go. Also, Addison's dad seems to be involved in all these shadow and power business and also in a dangerous society that targets people like Dean and Addison. I found that to be so creepy, especially that he is her dad and lives under the same roof. I also liked how the main characters in Insight (book 1) show up at the end of the book and, to put it in one way, join forces together to find out the history and source of their powers.

I really can't wait for the third book and find out what the shadows are, as well as ease my heart because of the cliffhanger at the end of this book. While I love all of Jolene Perry's contemporary novels, her paranormal ones are just as good!

Addison is the poor little rich girl. She has always gotten what she wants and if she doesn't she has ways to make it happen. With a touch, she can persuade others. She has no idea how or why she has received the gift of touch and thinks that she may be the only one. Dean is the poor foster kid who only wants to find his little brother who is being kept from him. What in the world would he have in common with Addison? When they meet, there is that instant attraction, almost electric. They find out they both have the same gift. Not only that, they can tell what each other is thinking. When Addison finds out that a group called The Middlemen are looking for her and Dean to use their powers, they have to run. Not knowing where to go they know they have to find Micah and Landon; possibly the only people who will be able to help them. Who can you trust when you are on the run?

What a wonderful book. I read this book without reading Inight first and had no problem keeping up with the storyline. You can read it by itself but I am sure it would be better to have the background story in the first book. I always love the rich girl, poor hunky boy storyline. Addison shows us there is so much more to her than her parent's money. She cares about her sister and takes care of her. Dean does the same with his brother; doing anything possible to track him down. When they find each other it is like they have been together forever. They are comfortable. This is an amazing book and I do recommend it! Thank you to the author and YA Bound for organizing this book tour. I received this book for a fair and honest review.

After reading Insight, I couldn't wait to begin Manipulation and find out where Jolene Perry was taking the story next. The book begins with Landon and Micha, in Landon's POV, which I loved. Though they are not the main focus of this book, it was such a plus to find out what was going on with them, especially being able to get inside Landon's head a little. I just fell in love with these two in Insight, book #1.

In Manipulation, we meet Dean and Addison. Two teenagers from completely different spheres of the social world. Both are seniors about the graduate. Addison comes from a rich family, is very pretty, lives on Park Avenue, attends an expensive private school, and is a hardcore germaphobe whose coconut hand sanitizer is almost an additional appendage. Dean comes from the other side of the tracks. He is foster care and has grown up with not a lot of money, he attends public high school, wears faded jeans and Adidas tennis shoes, and looks like he could be a GQ model. His pet peeve is scraping noises, such as shoes or boots scraping on the floor. The one thing these two do have in common is the talent of manipulation, being able to touch someone and plant a thought or idea into their head to make them do what you want.

After both have a brush with the law, they wind up in court on the same day, and end up in the same court-appointed life skills class. Needless to stay they were pretty blown away when they realized that they both had the same ability. They also find out another thing they have in common, which is their deep love for their younger siblings. As they spend more time together, they begin to fall for one another. Addison is coming out of a really bad relationship experience, and wants to take things slow, making sure that what they feel is real and not something that has been manipulated by the other, whether intentional or not. Addison's little sister has also done a lot of research on their gift, and they eventually find out about the same creepy legend that Micha and Landon did in Insight, which revolves around voodoo, shadows, and special abilities. When Addison sees some things on her dad's computer and overhears some of his conversations regarding "Middle Men," along with overhearing other conversations with Senator Michaels, they begin to put two and two together, especially when they have a close encounter with Landon and Micha. One night when she overhears something about being collected, all her worst fears are confirmed and she and Landon have to take off during the night to avoid capture.

Pooling their resources they purchase an old crappy car and embark on a road trip together, which sometimes feels like they are on the highway to hell, with both people and creepy shadows after them at every turn. This sucks for them, but it really makes for some very entertaining and exciting reading. Finally, with a little help from someone they least expect, they meet up with Landon and Micha. Of course they are already expecting them, because of Micha's gift of insight into the future. As they share with one another what information they know, it is rather overwhelming, seeming more like a conspiracy theory that you would find in a movie than something that is really happening to them, and there are still so many questions that are left unanswered. Landon also gets confirmation regarding his ability, something that Micha has been telling him he has all along. As danger closes in, both from natural and unnatural sources, it is up to Landon and his ability to help them escape, but can he do it, and will it be enough to keep them safe as they journey to find the answers to their questions?

I absolutely loved Manipulation. I was thrilled to see Micha and Landon again, and I loved getting to know Dean and Addie. Again, Jolene Perry captured my attention from start to finish, and I was captivated by both the romance and the paranormal element of the story. Dean and Addie's characters are great, and I fell in love with them. Their relationship was one that grew over time, with ups and downs, and I felt like was right there with them as they went through it all. Dean is such a hottie. He also was so real, he screwed up with Addison when he drank too much one night, and when he had to tell Addie that the shadows scared the hell out of him, it made me fall for him even harder for him. I just love imperfect characters, especially ones as hot as Dean. Jolene Perry took the danger and mystery up a notch in this book and it was much more intense than book one, and it seems inevitable that the third book in the trilogy will be even more so. This book ended really well also, which is such an important factor, at least to me. If you love romance in general, especially the paranormal kind, with the added bonus of conspiracy, mystery, and danger thrown in, then you will definitely want to check Manipulation, and this entire series out. I definitely recommend it and I can't wait to see what happens next.

The cover of Manipulation was the first thing to catch my eye, I think it is beautifully done. Then the synopsis grabbed me. I'll admit that I have not read Insight, the first book in this series but I was assured that I didn't need to, that Manipulation could stand on its own. Normally I would not even consider starting a series from anywhere but the beginning but I thought I would jump out of my comfortably made box and give it a shot.

The assurances I was given were right on. You don't have to read Insight to fall into Manipulation's story. Perry does a wonderful job of making this book work on its own while still providing hints to the first story. I actually want to read Insight now after reading Manipulation and I don't feel like I will be going backwards at all.

Dean and Addison have a chance meeting after they've both screwed up and are forced in front of a judge. A judge that somehow seems very eager to give Addison what she wants after the briefest contact, something that grabs Dean's attention. Now he can't help but wonder about this Park Avenue Princess and when they are forced to take a court ordered Life Skills class together...keeping Addison out of his mind gets increasingly harder.

Addison has always been able to get what she wants by a simple touch that allows her to plant her will into someone's mind. Now it seems she's met her match. Dean is able to do the same. The powers each have a eerily similar but still with slight differences and it makes it impossible to trust each other. Are they acting of their own will or is the other planting thoughts in their heads?

When mysterious shadows and family secretes threaten to tear their lives apart, Dean and Addison must figure out how to overcome any apprehensions about each other and make a run for safety.

I loved the struggle these two had with each other. Dean can force Addison's will but she can't force his, however she can hear his thoughts but not the other way around. This makes for some very awkward and uncomfortable situations. There is an instant attraction between the two and at first I thought it might be headed to a instantaneous love, which I loathe. Perry took some care to squash that for the most part, there were still times it felt a little rushed but then she would throw a little curve ball in to slow it back down.

The characters were all very well developed and felt real even though the situations felt impossible. The world Perry is building in the Shadow series is pretty exciting and full of potential and possibility. It's a bit super-power vs. secret-agent vs. paranormal-spookiness, who wouldn't love all that right? Then you add in a bit of romance and humor and end up with a pretty winning combination.

My only bad thought was that at times the story felt a bit rushed and convoluted. I felt like there were details left out, things I was supposed to already know but didn't. I know it was not for lack of reading Insight because these were details pertaining characters that would not have been in Insight. It didn't take too much away from the overall effect, it just had me scratching my head at times.

Regardless, I liked too much of the story to not give more attention to Jolene Perry's writing. I will be checking out the rest of the series along with her other titles.

MY REVIEW
Again I received this e-book copy of Manipulation directly from the author via YA Bound who is running this Blog Tour!
So I'll start with the cover, On this cover the female is Addison, and it is a good representation of her. There is also the "air of mystery" or the "air of Manipulation" represented by the smoke around her. I once again like the font and the placement of the wording. Again the only negative I have is that the series name of the "Shadows" is not featured on the cover.
Now to the book itself, I admit to being a fan of Jolene Perry, I find her writing style so easy to read and follow, her books flow so well. So in this book the couple with the extraordinary talent are Addison Prince ~ or would the surname "Princess" suit her more? She lives n the best side of town, doesn't need to worry about money. Lives with her mother and father whom she doesn't see much of, and then there's her younger sister Elly whom she would do anything for. Addison also has an Uncle who seems more "there" for her than her parents. But does her Uncle know anything about her "gift"? Elly know's about Addison's "special gift" of Manipulation, how she can touch someone and literally manipulate them into doing what she wants. In fact what little Addison knows about her gift is down to Elly and her research.
Dean ~ the nearly out of"foster care kid". Dean is the other gifted one in this book. He is fostered, he is separated from the brother he adores but doesn't really know the real reason why. He is always searching for his brother, will he ever find him and/or be allowed to have any contact with him?
They both meet at a Life skills Class they are being forced to do by a judge who found them guilty of "crimes" they committed.
It's a "classic" opposites attract, the "posh, somewhat snooty Addison" stares at the "gorgeous, lower class, bad boy" and they somehow "click". The two new friends also realise that when they work together their "gift" is stronger and even working their "gift" independently, their talents are enhanced when the other is around or they have recently been together.
So did I enjoy the book? Definitely, you can feel the tension running through the books and getting stronger and building up and up... Would I recommend this series? Yes to all paranormal lovers and those new to the genre too. This series is a great yet gentle introduction to reading paranormal. Will I read more in the Series? Oh yes! Seeker (Bk#3) is on my wishlist now! Will I read more by Jolene Perry? Definitely, without hesitation, I really enjoy her writing style, I seem to literally fly though her books!
Also coming into this book are Landon and Micah from Insight. We learn a little more about the "Middlemen" who have secret internet to speak and message each other on and a sliver more about the "Shadows", the one that seems to be staying on Landon's boat. This book definitely makes you want to read book three and I admit I would have gone straight onto reading it if I had, had it on my kindle. At the very end of Manipulation is a little sneak peek into Book Three Seeker, and the third couple we are going to be introduced to.

A review copy was provided for an honest review. Manipulation turned out to be harder to put down than I thought! It was really good and the newly introduced characters Addie and Dean are amazing. Whereas Insight was darker this book was lighter. It was pretty much the exact opposite and I loved that. It was fun, had tons of different twists, loveable characters, and more history on talents. It was everything I felt was missing from the first book, and don't get me wrong I really enjoyed Insight but this was on another level of enjoyment completely. The story ties in well with Micah and Landon's but it's all about Dean and Addie who are two very interesting talents themselves. Their abilities are incredibly cool and surprising.

Addison Prince is rich, gorgeous, and can manipulate anyone into doing what she wants. After all it is her mysterious talent that allows her this advantage. Her life is thrown into chaos when she can't get herself out of a bind and winds up in a life skills class as punishment. It's at this juvenile delinquent class where she meets someone who draws her attention—Dean Courser. Dean is a foster child with only one real goal since being put in the system—to find his younger brother. This mission leads him to trouble when the judge makes him takes a life course class. Never in his most wildest dreams would he think he would find someone like Addison—they have more in common than they both realize. What's strange is that they both start seeing creepy moving shadows, and Addie's father is part of an odd group called The Middle Men for which she knows next to nothing about but starts feeling like she should. Now Addie and Dean wonder if it's safe to possess such gifts and not get noticed.

Manipulation really immerses you and takes you along for the ride. It's a fabulous ride. I loved Dean and Addie's interactions—cautious yet utterly magnetizing. Jolene Perry's writing style is fantastic as is the story development. I liked Manipulation even more than Insight - Dean and Addie really grew on me but I was excited and glad to see Landon and Micah included. If you enjoyed Insight you will most certainly love this enthralling sequel. I highly recommend to those who love reading great paranormal romances with fun twists. With each book new facts arise on the shrouded mystery that is the talents and the Middle Men. Manipulation will keep you up all night trying to finish it! I'm eagerly awaiting the release of Seeker which is the last book in the trilogy.

(As posted on PenandMuse.com )

I am notoriously suspicious of the second book in a series. You know the common plot falls that second books usually get – a love triangle thrown in for no reason, a cliffhanging ending involving said romance, lots of action but no filler. This book had none of that. In all honesty, I enjoyed Manipulation even more than I did Insight – something I would have thought unlikely after enjoying Insight so much. Yet again I flew through this book so fast that I only had time for two status updates. 51% through the book my thoughts were “I have this wonderful feeling that I won’t be getting anything done tonight until I finish this book…and then I’ll hope there’s another planned.” These were accurate thoughts. I finished Manipulation the same day I started it as I couldn’t put it down.

I apparently read so many books that I forget what the blurbs talk about (oops!) so I had no idea until diving into the book until I was following a second set of characters. After a brief hesitation period, I found myself relating to these characters even more than I did Micah and Landon. I think Dean and Addison are more complex, both because they have grittier lives and because they are portrayed to the reader less mysterious than Micah and Landon.

So far, Addison is my favorite character in the series. At a glance, you think she is one thing. Dig a little deeper, and she’s another. I could relate to her – and even when I couldn’t, I could usually understand her. Dean…lives up to the hunky name of Dean (Ahem, go watch Supernatural if you don’t understand my correlation of the name to hunk). The way that the two of them interact together leaves you wanting to see more of them.

I love the subtlies woven into this book, creating threads to Insight without disrupting the storyflow- as well as creating threads which I’m guessing are to Seeker (or other potential novels in the series). There were “Ah, I see where this is evolving to” points intermixed with the story arc in a way that it made sense.

Recurrent readers to Pen and Muse may know that I have a series litmus test. If I want to buy the next book in the series, despite all logic (and my evergrowing “Own but haven’t read” list on Goodreads), it’s a series I’ll remember. For the record, as soon as I finished Manipulation I ran to Jolene Perry’s Goodreads page to see what I could find out about the third: Seeker.

I received Manipulation in return for an honest review as part of the tour hosted by YABound Book Tour.. Manipulation is the second book in the Shadows Series we get a little perspective of what’s currently happening to Micah and Landon before we surge into a new story. Addison Prince is the wealthy daughter of two parents who are never home which allows her to get away with almost everything. Addison has the gift of Manipulation she can tell people to do as she wishes but when she gets caught and ends up in front of a judge her life changes forever. In the court room that day is a teenager who’s not had all the privileges that Addison has his name is Dean.

When the pair ends up in the same life program they learn that they have a lot more in common than either one expected. Addison has been keeping secret her relationship with her dad’s best friend’s son who is several years older. It isn’t till she and Dean start to become friends that Addison realizes she’s not as happy with Chase as she is with Dean. When Addison learns that her boyfriend Chase is engaged to another woman she calls it quits. Addison has been hurt by Chase, but Dean is their being patient, allowing her to heal and learn to trust again. Together they start to fall in love brought together by their special ability of manipulation. Like the first book we see a little more of the shadows looming in the background.

Manipulation is a fantastic addition to the Shadows Series. Unlike with the first book the author gives us point of views from both Addison and Dead which I find gives us more of an insight into both sides. I honestly loved Micah and Landon after Insight but I think Addison and Dean stole my heart. I found a little more humor in their relationship which I really enjoyed. However Addison is by far one of my new all-time favorite characters she’s my first germ-a-phobe and because she’s wealthy after having been at the police station instead of washing her clothing she throws it away. I had a hard time putting manipulation down I actually finished it in one long afternoon. I can say I’m thrilled that I don’t have the germ-a-phobe issues or by now I would be out of clothes since I don’t have a big fancy car to drive me around. Like Insight the concept and story-line are unique and I found myself drawn into the story. The Story flows along smoothly so I can see teens as well as adults connecting with the characters. I really loved Manipulation it’s a fantastic fantasy story mixed with mystery and clean romance. I look forward to reading Seeker.

Addison and Dean are two people who are of north and south of the society spectrum. Being rich and priviledge, Addison can get whatever she wants while Dean on the other hand had it rough being a child in the system but they both have one thing in common, a gift that can manipulate a person to whatever they desire.

Addison is the b*tch you love to hate. She is petty, childish and rich. Your typical cliche brat and spoiled kid and I hated her from page one. It's actually easy to hate her. Dean is her complete opposite. He's compassionate, sweet, mature and easy on the eyes. His character is easy to fall in love with and I think everyone agrees with me that he is definitely one boyfriend material. Allison and Dean's path will cross as both of them becomes juvenile delinquent. As they slowly become friends, they discover something only they can understand.

Addison and Dean are a cute couple I have to admit. Unlikely couple yet like Landon and Micah, they complement each other in every aspect. As I followed how the story unfolded, I slowly ease up to Addison and found her vulnerable and lovable. She definitely is a damsel in distress and Dean is her perfect knight. I wasn't expecting to enjoy their interaction as much as I did but Perry was really good when it comes to her characters.

The story picks up right after where Insight left however this story can be read as a stand alone but I wouldn't really recommend you do that because there are some parts where you'll read voices of Landon and Micah, especially near the end. he story is unraveled using Addison and Dean's POV and the transition between the two is smooth so you wouldn't get lost following the story. You'll read more about the characters ability, the myth and who they are up against without the idea of the side they need to take.

Manipulation is one amazing second in the series. It surpasses what I expected and more. Manipulation will never disappoint. This is a series that is easy to love and I enjoy following the series, my only regret now is I don't have Seeker! Pick up this series and I guarantee that it's worth your time and money

Did I enjoy this book: I did enjoy this book but not as much as the first book, Insight. It was different - a good second book in a series - but not quite as exciting as Insight. I think that is because the reader is already aware of what is going on with the shadows after reading Insight. So, the air of mystery is gone. However, this book held my attention, I read it every free chance I could, and I finished Manipulation rather quickly.

We are introduced to Addison and Dean in Manipulation, which is their particular "talent". Through touch, Addison and Dean can make people do what they want them to do. These two meet each other in an unlikely location...a court-ordered life skills class. It was funny to me that Addison - the spoiled rich girl - has the "talent" of manipulation. It seems like she has what she wants anyway, so why does she get to have the "talent" for getting what she wants. I liked her growth and change throughout the book. She grew up and matured a bit as the book progressed. I felt bad for Dean. It seems like he had a rough childhood. I would have liked to have learned a bit more about it but the reader could understand where he was coming from. He was a sympathetic character. I wanted him to get the girl that was supposedly out of his reach. However, I did not see these two as a couple...or even as friends. As the book progressed, it was still difficult for me to see these two together. They worked in a way but not enough to make me care about them.

I wanted more about Landon and Micah. I wish there were a chapter here and there from their perspective so that we knew what they were doing. I enjoyed finding out more about Landon's "talent" and how their story was progressing but I wanted more about them. They had to be going through a lot.

The story moved and I enjoyed reading it. I'm looking forward to the next installment in this Shadows series.

Would I recommend it: I would recommend this book. Be sure to read book #1, Insight, first. (See my review here.)

Will I read it again: I will not.

Manipulation is a story that has more mystery than answers. The story starts with a prelude of asecret government agency trying to recruit Landon Michaels and Micah. Somehow Landon and Micah knew something was up and was able to escape.

Now the story shifts to Addison Prince and Dean Courser. Addison believes that she was in love with Chase, was caught trying to ride a train for free. The irony is that Addison's mom owns the train company and that Addison didn't want her parents to know that she is seeing and sleeping with Chase.

Dean has been trying to locate his little brother Jeremy who has adopted in foster care. He has been caught several times trying to find Jeremy.

Both ended up in court and discovered that they have the power to manipulated people into doing things for them with a touch. When they are together, they found they have a connection of telepathic and to manipulate people without touching them.

The story continues with they finding out about the Middle Men and the shadows. Addison and Dean still haven't been about to figure out what is going on. It was until Addison overheard her father saying that they were going to bring Addison and Dean in. The only people that they can trust would be Landon and Micah tentatively.

I love the way Manipulation hooked me in without really answering all the question. There are some information regarding the Bahamian legend, Voodoo, the shadows, and the Middle Men. Since I miss reading the first book of the Shadows series, Insight, some of the information regarding the Bahamian legend, Voodoo, the Shadows, and the Middle Men might be in the story. There is no way of distinguishing who's the villains or heroes here. Everything in the story is shades of grey. This is probably why I love the story where there is mystery and discovering them with each sets of new characters.

I'm looking forward to the release of the third book, Seekers.

I will start with--LOVED! But must admit it took me a minute to embrace Addison. But I LOVE when a character completely grows on me and then I love them in the end and that's what happened. Dean won me over by his name of first. I have a tiny infatuation with a fictional character named Dean. Anyway, what I ADORE about Jo's paranormal books is that the relationship is front and center. It drives the story. Getting to know these two, there ability of manipulation, and how they use it in their very different lives. And in the background there is always the Shadow People. Amping the tension. Making you know that any minute something might happen. I must admit when I realized the last chapter was actually the last chapter I kinda wanted to throw a tantrum. It ended too soon. But Jo has the first chapter of the third book so I read that and I CAN'T WAIT for the third one. Being in the head of the bad guy is AWESOME and I love her character already.

Great story. Lots of added hotness with touching and their abilities. And a great book 2 for this series!

Manipulation is the second book in the Shadows Trilogy. I was a little worried at first because Manipulation follows different characters than Insight, however, it makes sense. Insight is about how Micah can “see” things. In Manipulation, Addison can get pretty much anything she wants. She manipulates into getting things. Addison kind of reminded me of a Serena van der Woodsen character, with being beautiful, rich, and getting what she wants. However, I liked Addison A LOT better than I liked the popular Gossip Girl character, which is very good!

Even though Manipulation is with different characters, you still get background with some of the other characters in Insight. We learn a little more about The Middle Men, but I am still intrigued to know where it is all going! Sure, little pieces are finally starting to get woven together, but I want the third book so that I can see it all come together and make a bit more sense.

I received an email from the author noting this book was available to read on wattpad, so I have it a shot. It's actually book 2 of a series, but can be read as a stand alone. I found book 1 on wattpad, so I'm going to read it next.

I've never been disappointed in Perry's work. I think it's fantastic that she's made some of her work free to read.

This is a really great read, and I recommend it.

Another awesome read by Jolene Perry! As a big fan of paranormal and romance,I am completely hooked on this series and couldn't wait for this book to be released. I wanted more of Micah and Landon, but became just as involved with Addie and Dean so it was all good. I adore this series and can't wait for the release of the third book!
