Sporting Chancer: One Man’s Journey to Take On the World

Rate this book
Out of work, out of luck, Ed Hawkins seeks fame and fortune by becoming a Sporting Chancer.

Attempting to wager his way around the world, he wins and loses with hilarious consequences. Amongst other jaunts he plays tennis with John McEnroe, darts against Phil Taylor and ends up at an illegal cockfight in Louisiana with Britney Spears’ babysitter.

Setting himself three challenges to see if he can become a true Sporting Chancer, the fun never runs out – unlike the funds.

An occasionally entertaining and quick read for the holidays. Mostly a description of the largely unsuccessful sports betting exploits of the author across a number of stops around the world, starting with an Ashes tour to Australia. Definitely, a third star only for people who enjoy their Cricket. Sadly, there is also no deep insights gleaned by the author, neither for himself, nor (but for a few small reflections towards the end) for others.
