The Vamp Life sucks if you’re the only female vampire in the world allergic to chocolate. When a wizard with a penchant for kitchen magic arrives, however, things can take a delicious and sinful turn. Especially when he puts himself on the menu. Chocolate goes well with…everything.
Rachel Karrin is at her wits’ end. The benefits to vampire life look pretty grim when her new powers come with limits on her favorite food. Chocolate. The rare allergy is unusual enough to gain the interest of the Kitchen Witch Society.
When the sexy, brooding Ryan Shepard shows up, there’s more than chocolate in his repertoire and his temptation is far more than she can take in her world of blood and sex.
A Romantica® paranormal erotic romance from Ellora’s Cave
Publisher’s Note: This book was previously published elsewhere in 2009 under the title Decadence and has been extensively revised for EC.
USA Today Bestselling Author Dawn Montgomery loves to write almost as much as she loves to read. She has traveled the world twice over. While her days were filled with long hours and hard work, her nights were left for dark, lustful fantasies in and out of strange hotels and cities.
Alaska and Texas are the places she calls home. She recently moved from the frigid North to Texas with her family and neurotic dog. It was tragic to leave behind the moose and bear for wide open plains and sexy cowboys.
I really loved this short story. The torture of it being short makes me crave more of it. I would of loved to hear Ryan's pov during the story as well.
Rachel is a vampire in desperate need of chocolate, but since being turned is highly allergic. Ryan is a wizard and has been contracted by the Kitchen Witch Society to cure her, but when he finds out she is a vampire will he be able to or want to help her?
REVIEW Dude: Ryan Shepard, a talented—and hot—wizard with a whole lot of sex appeal.
Dudette: Rachel Karrin, a vampire who – and kudos to author Dawn Montgomery—isn’t over the top powerful or drop at your feet unrealistically beautiful (which makes her even more gorgeous). The character was easy to relate to (even if she was of the undead variety).
The down low: Trapped together until Rachel’s not-so-little chocolate allergy is solved (the girls dies-again-when she ingests it), H/h must work together and set aside their differences. Sexiness, and I mean HOT sexiness ensues. I found the erotic scenes detailed, original and well developed.
Recommendation: I love Dawn Montgomery’s writing style. It’s smooth, detailed (in a way that doesn't bog down the story) and never fails to capture my attention from the first line. The witty dialogue had me laughing out loud. For the price and quality, I’d recommend this read.
Rating: Five Stars – there isn’t anything I’d change (except for making it longer but I really dislike ratings that get knocked down for such a thing).
Favorite line(s): “I don’t work with vampires.” There was a smoky gleam in his eye and I couldn’t miss the way his pulse kicked again. What was going on inside his gorgeous head? “You seem to be working fine with me.” I could think of a few more ways we could work it out. All of them involved lots of positions. And tempos. My blood pressure skyrocketed. Humor lightened his expression. “I killed you within the first hour of meeting you.”
Okay where to start. This is a cute little read when you don’t want something with a lot of angst. I finished the story in a couple of hours. Right from the start I was chuckling at the first chapter. You have a Vampire Rachel Kerrin who is allergic to chocolate and her best friend Raine a psychic who owns Sinful Treats chocolate shop. Rachel is literally drooling all over her counters. As a last ditch effort Rachel has contacted The Kitchen Witch Society to send someone to help cure her chocolate allergy.
The Society sends Ryan Shepard a very hot good looking wizard to assist with her allergy. Rachel is not too keen with who they sent even though he’s a hunk. She tries to dismiss Ryan from the task at hand. Ryan’s response is I don’t work with Vampires, and is more than happy to cut out, but the Kitchen Witch Society isn’t having it and puts a barrier in place keeping Ryan there until his task is complete. When Ryan cooks up some soup and offers to Rachel her first spoonful throws her into death. Ryan I don’t think was expecting that reaction so fast. I do believe he panicked. This turns out to be a cute little romance story and perfect when you are in-between series.
