In Pamela Wight's The Right Wrong Man (2013), Meredith Powers is accustomed to spending her days helping authors turn out polished manuscripts. She’s good at it, one of the best, but not so much at running her love life. She falls body and spirit for a man named Parker Webb who disappears frequently for job-related work that takes him to dangerous parts of the world doing dangerous things. Finally, she can't stand the idea that she might lose him, that he would disappear in some foreign country and she'd never again hear from him, so she dumps. To recover from his unpredictability, she moves in with a handsome and dependable accountant. Parker reappears, filled with warnings of her safety telling her not to trust anyone, telling her his cover was blown and he isn now running for his life, and within days, she is kidnapped. The handsome FBI agent who holds her captive tells her a different story about Parker, of a rogue agent who fell to the dark side and that the US government needs her help capturing him. It is at this point she realizes she really does love Parker, doesn't believe this man who claims to be FBI, and commits herself to discovering the truth and saving Parker.
Highly recommended for those who need to escape their lives for at least a few hours.
A fun, fast-paced page turner. Romantic suspense set in Boston and the Caribbean. You have to read to the end to find out WHO is the right wrong man. (and what TRMFY really means...)
A fun romantic thriller, The Right Wrong Man introduces us to Meredith Powers, a headstrong but likable medical-textbook editor who is taken on a wild ride by three men (sometimes literally--from Boston to St. Thomas and back), none of whom she's sure she can trust. She knows what her heart says, but is her mind on the same page when it comes to love?
Sometimes you just need a bit of summer escapism. This fit the bill for me. Fun characters and fun twists and turns. It's a light, easy read, but one that will leave you satisfied.
Romance and intrigue abound in this thriller where Wight introduces us to some interesting and well developed characters with an intriguing storyline. At first we're not sure how all these characters are connected, but as the story develops, the setting takes us from Boston to the Caribbean where we'll find out the secrets the characters are hiding.
As the story begins, editor, Meredith gives up her romantic relationship with Parker when she can no longer endure his mysterious disappearances, and trades up for a calm and supportive accountant, convincing herself that stability is better for her than the constant mystery she lived in with Parker. The only trouble is, her heart is still with Parker.
Soon Meredith's quiet little life in Boston is disrupted when she is forced by her boss to appease a demanding author by going to work directly with her on her book for a few days on her yacht in St. Thomas. And then the plot thickens where a seemingly little island getaway leads to Meredith's entanglement in an illicit drug scheme, complete with a drug cartel and people in her life showing up in the intrigue. As Meredith is caught up in the cat and mouse chaos, she begins piecing together her suspicions of characters and mishaps she encountered back in Boston, and the men she thought she knew so well in her determination to escape and return to her comfortable life back home.
Well rounded characters and various sub plots introduce and carry through this romantic mystery. Although I found the pace slow, yet interesting as the story unfolded, after about a third way into the book, I couldn't put it down once caught up in the action of Meredith's web of deceit and determination to escape the drug lord who held her captive and the real identities of those she thought she knew.
Meredith Powers is a feisty, if hopelessly romantic, heroine who is thrust into an international intrigue and unable to know who she can trust and who she can't. Her ex-boyfriend, Parker Webb, has been working undercover, which explains why he disappeared from her life when they seemed so perfect for each other. Now she has a chance at love with someone ostensibly more suitable, but when Parker reappears, things suddenly get more complicated in her personal life and more dangerous everywhere else.
Kudos for a great first novel from author Pamela Wight. I've enjoyed her blog and am impressed at the quality of this book: fast-paced plot, interesting characters, and some very rich descriptive passages that pull the reader right into the story. Well done!
The Right Wrong Man hooked me from the very first paragraph and didn't let go until the very last. It's full of twists and turns I didn't see coming, all intricately laid out and presented brilliantly. I was never confused, despite the complexity of the plot, which says a lot about the author's ability to write clearly and with precision. Pamela Wight has a way of putting the reader right in the middle of the action, of making the reader feel all the emotions the characters are feeling. I am so eager to read her next book!
I was so excited to read this book written by a college friend. I sat down with it the second I got it in the mail, and I could not put it down. This was a fun read with a sassy main character and had an addicting plot line with twists and turns. I started in the morning, and I finished the book before my husband and I left for an evening Christmas party. Thanks, Pam, this was a delightful read.
THE RIGHT WRONG MAN by Pamela Wight is a high-octane read fueled by twists and turns that kept me guessing — between Carlos, Gregory, and Parker, just exactly who is the good guy and who is the bad guy? Wight's delft sleight-of-hand kept me in suspense until the final reveal. I highly recommend this fast-paced, fun read.
This is one great read, that I had a hard time putting it down. I even took it jogging, if you can picture that. The story is brimming with action as Meredith Powers, a 32-year old woman with a demanding job and quirky family, gets caught up in a good-guy/bad-guy mess where it's hard to tell who's on what side. The mess is related to her ex-boyfriend Parker and his job, which required frequent mysterious disappearances. Theirs was a doomed relationship that she’d successfully put out of her mind… until he shows up out of the blue and everything goes haywire.
The rip-roaring plot, full of twists and turns and lots of guessing on this reader’s part, was highly entertaining. But what I enjoyed most was Meredith as a character. She’s bright, sarcastic, outspoken, and strong-willed. She's also confused, recklessly brave, and tender-hearted. If she was a real person, I’d be torn between bopping her on the head and hugging her. The story is told in first-person from Meredith’s point of view. This allows for some fabulous commentary as part of her inner dialog. Her voice is strong, consistent, and thoroughly engaging.
Parker is an interesting character even though he’s actually absent from most of the book. The reader learns about him through Meredith, and the mystery surrounding his character is immensely appealing. All of the characters, even those with bit parts, are distinct with their own voices and personalities.
The pace is speedy, and the story is superbly edited. In my opinion, The Right Wrong Man will appeal to a broad audience with a little of something for everyone – action, mystery, suspense, and a pinch of romance. I want a sequel!
This was a delightfully fast paced action packed thriller with a romantic element that kept you turning the pages.
Meredith who at 32 years old has her life more or less organised. She has decided to settle for a quieter life after a rollercoaster ride with her ex-boyfriend Parker, whose job with the government kept him coming and going often at a moment’s notice. It looks like she will get her wish with the new man in her life Gregory… even if at times she misses some of the more spontaneous moments with her ex.
We are privy to her inner thoughts as Meredith navigates her job, its demands and her new boyfriend and there is some wonderful subtle humour as she examines the pros and cons of her romantic life. She is organised and dedicated at her job and in her personal life and that control element is going to be tested to the limit as she finds herself being tossed around, not just on the high seas but as a pawn between powerful men.
With her life in danger, a devastatingly attractive man determined to use Meredith to obtain what he wants, and the other two men in her life turning out to be full of surprises, she is going to have to take matters into her own hands.
This is not a book you will want to put down and I really enjoyed the characters involved in this fast paced story, even those on the other side of right and wrong. Highly recommended.
Meredith is torn between two men. On the one hand there’s Parker – cute, sexy, hot but oh so unreliable. On the other hand is Gregory: cute, boring but he is after all steady. So here I was comfortably settled into a women’s contemporary romance novel. Then enter Carlos who changes the game plan. The romance is still there but the novel shifts to a thriller with the ingredients of espionage, drug cartels and terrorism. From that point on the novel is full of twists and turns that kept me wanting to know not only which man Meredith will end up with but how she’ll get out of the mess she’s found herself in. Meredith is the feisty kind of character that I enjoyed hanging out with as I followed her through her action packed adventures. I loved her relationship with her parents and best friend. The dialogue is great and the author has a lovely way with words. Having been to Boston a few times, I enjoyed her descriptions of the city. Throughout the book there was the mystery of the code TRMFY that kept showing up and which left me with a satisfying smile on my face when its meaning was finally revealed. Definitely a novel that entertained me.
Pamela S Wight is an extraordinary story weaver. Meredith Powers is happy with her boyfriend, the slightly OCD accountant who just moved in with her.Suddenly her previous boyfriend reappears on the scene and asks for help. He also leaves enigmatic little notes for her to find TRMFY that drive her crazy. From the minute he reappears her life changes as she becomes embroiled in a search for the truth about who each of her boyfriends really is. There are twists and turns aplenty as Meredith meets a third romantic interest who wants something from her. He's suave, handsome and totally ruthless. With the story moving from Boston to the Caribbean the reader is propelled further and further into the mystery that this excellent author has written with a touch of tongue in cheek humour until finally all is revealed. You'll have to read it yourself to see who she stays with. An excellent read that I found hard to put down. I give myself Brownie Points for guessing correctly what TRMFY meant.
What do you do when your old boyfriend comes calling when your new boyfriend has just moved in with you? Meredith, an editor for a small medical publishing company, is put in the position of choosing. To make the choice more difficult, neither man is an open book. Parker is dashing, exciting, and full of mystery. Gregory is steady and reliable but not spontaneous.
When Meredith takes a trip to St. Thomas to meet with one of her clients, all hell breaks loose. Meredith is kidnapped for reasons unknown to her at the time. If that isn't scary enough, her kidnapper tries to seduce her and use her as bait. Can Meredith's boyfriends rescue her, and what lengths will they go to bring the big fish to justice?
Pamela Wight has written a fast-paced and entertaining tale of intrigue and suspense. Meredith was an absolute delight, but I also thought the minor characters added to the plot. After following Wight's blog for the last year, I knew that she was a talented writer. This was time well-spent, and I look forward to reading another of her books down the road.
After breaking up with her unreliable DEA agent boyfriend, Meredith Powers is enjoying a predictable life with her new man, the staid accountant Gregory. But when her ex shows up unexpectedly and in trouble, Meredith is torn between the excitement he offers and the reliability of her new life. It isn't long before Meredith is thrown into a dangerous mystery involving the international drugs trade that will leave her in fear for her life and questioning everything she believes to be true. This is a fast-paced thriller that is filled to the brim with excitement and romance. Meredith is a satisfyingly independent heroine and the other characters are suitably ambiguous, which kept me guessing about who could be trusted and who was not as he or she seemed. This book kept me up late turning the pages to find out how it ended. An exciting, romantic thriller.
I enjoyed every minute of this fun read full of action and excitement. Meridith, the main character, is contented with her predictable life; a job with a publishing house and a picture-perfect boyfriend who just moved in with her. He's a bit uptight and possibly a bit boring, but he's just what she needs. Then her former boyfriend shows up and turns her world upsidedown. Her quiet, safe life becomes one of suspicions, danger and intrigue. No one is who she thinks they are, and Meridith has to use all her resources and skills, some she didn't know she had, to get herself out of a dangerous situation. The writing is excellent and keeps the reader guessing until the end. I love Meredith, and other interesting characters are sprinkled throughout the book. Will she end up with the right wrong man? A fast-paced, cleverly constructed page-turner that I highly recommend. Note: I listened to an AI-narrated audio version of this book, and it was well done.
Everyone looks for the book they can’t put down and THE RIGHT WRONG MAN is one such book. The story is positively captivating with lots of twists and turns leaving you wondering what would happen next. With elements of romance and suspense combined, this fast-paced novel is a real page turner. The characters are fully developed and truly believable. Though there are multiple characters, each adding to the story, they are all distinguishable and leave no confusion over who is who. Mystery surrounds each of Meredith’s love interests culminating in surprises about each. If you love a good mystery with romance heavily sprinkled throughout, this book is for you. There is nothing I didn’t like about THE RIGHT WRONG MAN. I have no reason not to award this book five stars. The opinions expressed in this review are my own.
What a delightful read! It needn't have taken me so long but I only read my Kindle before bed - more than once did Ms Wight make me go past my bedtime. (I finally decided to cheat and read the rest - the last 5% - this afternoon.)
I haven't read a romance in a long, long time - after many years of reading them, I was saturated. This one came in at just the right time! Plus, it was a romantic thriller which added a level of excitement.
Can you imagine being attracted (willingly or not) to not one, not two but three men? And you mind flips back and forth over who is the good guy and who is the bad? Well, stick with this one because it will have you going back and forth multiple times.
Who knew being an editor of medical books could be so exciting? Not Meredith, that's for sure. Nor I!
'The Right Wrong Man' is great fun and reads so smoothly. Ms. Wight does an exceptional job of keeping tension perking throughout this novel and the chapters are short enough I kept wanting to read 'just one more' before closing the book for the day. None of the twists and turns were truly surprising, but the fun was trying to figure out how Ms. Wight was going to tie the adventures and various characters together. I highly recommend this novel as a sweet and enjoyable read, and look forward to starting another of her novels, 'Twin Desires,' tomorrow. So nice to read the work of a skilled author!
Well, I am not at all surprised that I loved this book. Anyone who follows Pamela Wight’s blog, (Roughwighting), knows that she has a magical pen that floats through the air. I love that about her writing. I think I fell in love with Parker right away. He was mysterious and exciting. (the exact opposite of any man I would choose for myself). And of course, Meredith is that character that drags the reader right into the plot. I enjoyed this fast-paced book from beginning to end. And found myself wanting to turn to the end a few times to see what would happen… but I patiently made my way through. Superb writing and a great plot make this a must read romance novel. 😊
The first pages of this thriller romance were not particularly fast-paced, and I thought I would be in for a slow, but sweet upbeat romance flavored with a thin mystery. Boy, was I wrong. The book speeded up, faster and faster, until by the time I was about 1/3 of the way in, I became so engrossed I almost missed an appointment. When I got back from my appointment, I decided to set everything else aside and finish the book because I was obsessed with discovering what was happening to the protagonist, Meredith, a medical book editor, and which--if any--of the three mysterious and sexy men involved on one side or another of an illegal drug scheme she would choose as her true love. This books features lots of adventure, suspense, and mystery.
Very satisfying read with intriguing characters, and a feisty, believable heroine. Such a fun ride to see what unfolds and what new twists develop. Great romp!! Looking forward to reading Twin Desires!
A fancifully intriguing romantic adventure with a strong main character that was relatable on many levels. I'm not usually a romance reader, but I enjoyed this quick read.
