Summer Evans is a singer with a big talent. So when her girl group gets a shot at the big time, she knows her break has finally come.
But when musician-producer Adam Morgan is appointed her mentor, Summer is about to get more than she bargained for. Because Adam doesn’t want Summer’s girl band. He wants her. And as Summer soon discovers, the dangerous Mr Morgan is very good, at getting what he wants.
I don't understand how anyone could spare this to Fifty Shades. First of all the "romance" between both main characters has barely started and OF COURSE there is another book to see what happens next. The writing was mediocre and has a YA feel to it most of the time. I was not invested in the book long enough to care to read the next one. At least Fifty Shades had a ton of depth in each book and sucked you in with the first 900+ pages...
A once in a lifetime opportunity must be grabbed if you are lucky enough to get it. Being on a TV competition/reality show is not Summer's cup of tea, but beggars cannot be choosers.
The last thing Summer needs is to fall in love. Her career as the lead singer of an all girl group is at the edge of a cliff... one wrong move and all she has worked for will be destroyed. This is her opportunity to prove to herself, her family and the world in general her musical gift cannot be denied. This is the path she has chosen and she must make a success of it.
One little problem, though. Adam is his name. He is one of the judges. A powerful figure in the music business, as well as a bad boy player. No way is he the type Summer wants to be entangled with.
In he own unique style, JS Taylor gives us a love story to thrill and entice us. Like with her other series, we are in her grip from the start of this story. We are hooked and must follow this story to its hopefully happily ever after.
Please note, this is only book #1. The sequel Rising Star is due out sometime in 2014. We encourage JS Taylor to promptly limber her typing fingers and finish this story. We are waiting at the edge of our seats for details as to what will happen next to our motorcycle riding couple and their singing future.
Star Struck kept me entertained to a point. I will say that J.S. Taylor has something special with her writing because it’s engaging, but there are some problems. First of all this book is nothing like Fifty Shades of Grey regardless of it being marketed as that. Also on the cover it’s stated that Star Struck is a so-called best seller, which is deceiving also because there is no proof otherwise. That’s where J.S. fails, and it’s manipulative marketing that really should be re-thought. Star Struck is more of a New Adult/ Chick-Lit type book, not an erotic romance, although the love scenes between Adam and Summer are steamy, and yet somewhat out of place because of the overall tone of the book. Adam is toted as a good guy (not really the rebel man ho singer the public believes him to be). But when he gets Summer naked, he acts like this dominate lover who wants to tie Summer up or engage in some kink when they have sex. The love scenes seem out of place in this cutesy novel about a Welsh girl (Summer) and her two girl friends who want to win an X-Factor type reality show so they can be the next big thing in music.
Because this takes place in England, the slang is heavily British, and I found myself confused with the dialect. I had to re-read a few times to understand the conversations between the characters. I assume Star Struck is only meant for a British audience? Also Summer comes across as a Mary Sue who has a perfect voice, wonderful hair and looks spectacular in something simple as jeans and a T-shirt. She is just over the top nice and is very positive, including having a knack for fixing any problems that may arise. She and Adam do click, but again the tone of the love scenes really don’t jive here.
This is an open ended book, but I have a feeling it will have a predictable ending.
Star Struck is nothing to write home about and would benefit with better editing.
I loved the character of Summer, she is a feisty girl from the Welsh valleys and can handle almost anything that comes her way. Except a star in the name of Adam Morgan. Who throws her for a loop.
Adam Morgan, a great book boyfriend. He is hot and with the luck of the Irish, that follows him. Adam is a strong character, but you don't get the feeling that he has dealt with things in his past. So looking forward to seeing what happens in the story with Adam, to get a handle on his personality.
Loved the guest appearance of the James and Isabella Berkeley from the Berkeley series of books. Love that they are still very much in love.
For those who love reality TV shows and love music. Then this book will be for you.
I can't wait for the next part in the series, to find out where the story goes.
Yes, this is a series to let people know who hate buying series. I have enjoyed the first book. The storyline is good. it's a singing competition with romance and hot sex.
I loved it! I really enjoyed the berkley method and was excited when I won. It took me a bit to have a chance to start reading but whem when I did I couldn't put it down. I immediately bought the next one and cant wait! Look forward to reading more from this author!
I loved the chemistry of Summer and Adam!!! When I read an enjoyable book and the pages flow and turn without any notice - that means to say it's a great read. keep em coming!
Great new story. Loved that James and Izzy made an appearance in the book. Hope to see more of them in the next book. Great characters and can't wait to see how the story builds in book 2.
I loved JS's Spotlight series and was excited to start this one. This book was so addictive, I blasted through it. Summer and Adam's story is so lovely. Looking forward to more!
To be honest, when I pass through this novel, I didn't give much thought about it since the blurb doesn't interest me that much. But then while I was searching for a new read I remembered J.S. Taylor's other book series Spotlight that I read a long time ago. I didn't remember much about it and I didn't write a review, but I remembered being totally in love with it, thus I started Star Struck. And hell, I was not expecting to feel this way about it at. all.
The book is basically about our heroine, Summer and her band applying for this competition that, if they win, is gonna be their 'big break' in the music industry. I do have this part of me who thought I would not like this book at the beginning, since despite the characters being twenty years old above (Summer is 22) somehow I felt like they are teenagers. I don't know why, maybe it's the dialogues I'm not sure. I was prepared to give this book a rest and found myself being not able to. There is something special in J.S Taylor's writing. It was incredibly engaging and smooth. The flow is perfect in my opinion, and I can't be happier that I didn't let myself drop this book. And then there's Summer's relationship with our hero, Adam. He's this perfect book boyfriend. Hot, powerful, somehow dangerous and mysterious. It is so easy to fell in love with both characters. They complimented each other so much and I am totally shipping them. All of the characters had grown since the beginning and I can't be more happier. I finished reading two chapters and the next thing I know I had spent two whole days finishing the whole series. Just when I thought I can finally rest and sleep another new thing happened and I just had to read more.
By the time I started the second book, I was kinda shocked to find the supposed-to-be main conflict that was mentioned in the blurb solved halfway through the book. And I was left confused on what's going to happen next. THEN it gets intense. I ended up finishing the book and started the last book in one day. I totally love how the conflicts doesn't involve Adam's and Summer's relationship, and how they help each other through it like the perfect couple they are. And another aspect that I love is how the steamy love scenes are not overdone at all. Although I thought the ending was a tad to fast (in the third book), It was great, a definite happily ever after, although I would love it more if there's an epilogue, most probably a little bit in the future. But it doesn't matter that much, It's still great.
Overall, I totally enjoyed this series. In a deepIy-in-love-I-need-my-Adam kinda way. I did mentioned how the blurb doesn't interest me that much but after reading the novel, I thought that it might be a good thing too since it doesn't spoil too much of what's going to happen. The writing had become better and better throughout the series and I could not be more in love with it. Super captivating. Since I finished this series, I am holding my breath until J.S. Taylor released a new one. I'm going through withdrawal I swear. Perfect five stars! totally recommended for you who love contemporary with a perfect dose of lovable characters, drama and hot steamy romance.
This was a solid 3.75 star read for me. It included some original elements like an American Idol reality show which I had never seen done before and actually improved on the Splotlight series (although the characters and the storylines are very very similar.) In comparison to the Berkeley series, the first two books seemed to be more thoroughly thought out this time around and this plot had a more logical progression.
What I liked: flows easily, unique plot, enjoyable characters, romantic protective alpha with a touch of bad boy, steamy scenes, lot less unnecessary drama than the Spotlight series - things weren't drawn out too long, right amount of suspense.
What could be better: my biggest complaint is that this series bills itself as similar to Fifty Shades and Bared To You - even on its cover - IT'S NOT. I get tired of authors ripping off of the success of those books, a little dominance and tying someone up during sex does not make this the next best thing to Christian or Gideon. So please don't ride those coattails. Additional thoughts: there was no insight into Adam's career as an artist we rarely see him perform, or go on concert, or see him in his element. Also would have liked a bit more elaboration on their attraction (why Summer?) and for there to me more memorable dialog. Reads easily, just not too much stood out to me.
Been giving this as a giveaway in return for an honest review.
To be honest I was going to give this a 3 or 4 stars as I wasn't so sure of this in the beginning. The female characters seemed immature and annoying to start off with but I warmed up to them right away. Adam Morgan isn't really what I call book material but if I had a top 11 (Reminiscent of nostalgia critic here) I'd put him in 11 or ten. There were times where the american dialog (words like soda and panties) seemed out of place because the main character is Welsh but that wasn't a major hindrance. I rated this a 5 because it does give me warm fuzzy feelings inside. Its a nice break from overly serious books I've been reading.
I love when an author brings characters from another series into a story. It makes it feel like their story does not end. This story seem to be of the rags to riches variety. With a Music competition setting, and very competitive competitors this story screams drama. I wish I could actually hear the music. I am anxious to see how the girl do in this show.
overall,it was ok. the story wasn't smooth. it was hard at times to make out whom was speaking. the beginning was S L O W. I nearly didn't continue. but I hate stopping a book. so I pushed on. it still wasn't great. very weak scenes. the end was dull.
I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the next two in the series. I am loving the romance between Summer and Adam and think they are cute together, I can't wait to see where their story goes.
Extremely disappointing. The contestants, as well as the judges, were mean-spirited and not connected to each other in any way. Lisa was the only judge who was nice and tried to help Summer, Tammy and George. Deven was never fully developed, so it was hard to know whether he really liked Summer or was just trying to get her into bed. Adam's romantic advances were really questionable. A few times he seemed to be crossing over the line into sexual assault with Summer. Nothing romantic about it whatsoever!
Ahhh!
Me gustó.
Echt onnodig.. Wat hij doet kan niet hoor... Hoe oud is zij?
I don't think there was enough likeness for it to be compared to 50 shades. It was still an exciting story. Funny and endearing and plenty of drama you would expect from a TV singing compitition.
OK, I saw this book on a giveaway and the cover - full of bright colors - caught my attention. I bookmarked it and waited patiently till I could get my clutches on it... I knew it was about music and there would have been sex inside but that was all.
Finally I got the book. Than I looked at the Kindle cover and I saw something about Fifty Shades of Grey and I thought: "What did I get myself into?" Really. I read a couple of paragraphs from the Italian translation of FSoG on a magazine and it was ridiculous. I don't know if it was because of the translation or maybe Italian is not the language for sex (for love, maybe, but not for sex). Anyway. I was a bit suspicious.
But then I started reading and I quickly got involved in the plot. Any girl who gets her dress dirty because she's saved a dog... She has my respect! But it's not only that. The main character, Summer, is a very strong-minded woman and also her band mates - Tammy and George - are very confident and determined.
That's the first story I've read about a talent show and for this reason it's somehow interesting to read about the schemes that goes on beyond the TV screen. At the same time the plot reminds me of Girl with Guitar: there's a young, talented singer and her a bit older and more famous mentor. Of course, the setting is very different. Taylor's book is set in London and it's about pop and rock music, while Quinn's book is about country but you can draw some parallelism.
Both main female characters are strong and they do everything to make their dreams come true. Ok, maybe the male leads are way different one from the other. Adam Morgan has tons of tats (sorry, not a bit fan), smokes (not a big fan of this, either) and he's both a producer and a singer who's still on top. On the other hand, Trace's an alcoholic (me, teetotaler) and he hasn't nailed a single in a long time. There's a different power relation in action here: Trace actually needs Kylie in order to get his fame back, while Adam is the one helping Summer breaking through.
Sex scenes are a bit different as well. From this perspective I really dislike Adam. He's too authoritative in my opinion. He decides something and that's the way it should be: Summer has no say in it. On the contrary, I seem to remember things between Trace and Kylie being a bit more equal.
Both books have short chapters and I love them. I've always thought that it makes my reading easier.
I'm definitely going to read the second novel in the series. And I really hope that it doesn't end like Kylie's and Trace's story, which I didn't finished...
Buena lectura, buen libro.
ME GUSTÓ.
