The pace was fast, filled and exciting from the start. After the abrupt ending of Fae I was very excited to see where the story would lead and how the actions of characters from the first book would pan out. I knew from the first book that I loved the character of Devilyn but it was interesting to see how his character had changed from how he had been in the earlier book, one thing that hadn't changed though was his love for Caroline.

In this book Devilyn is trying so hard to stay away from Caroline now he has become the Dark King but as Fate would have it eventually their paths would cross. As per the end of the first book, Caroline has no memories of her time with Devilyn and has started back at school a long with her friend Teddy. Through actions out of both of their grasp, Devilyn’s path crosses over with Caroline’s as yet again he does everything in his power to keep her safe from the Dark and even from himself.

There are new characters introduced as well as the growth of the characters from the first book, The Dark King is bound to keep you entwined deep within the story of Devilyn and Caroline and their struggles against their Fate.

Devilyn finally confronted his father after saving Caroline. He vaquished his father to the Sword of lught, the very sword Devilyn used to defeat his father. As he hold the Throne to the Dark Fae kingdom, his heart still longing Caroline's embrace.

Unaware, his father loyal follower has found out about Alderon prison and released him. Now, Devilyn returned to Caroline side to protect her once again, only to found Rowan, the prince of Light Fae already stands beside her, offering protection.

As time goes by, Devilyn surrendered to his feeling towards Caroline and let Fates finally fall in place. Now, as Caroline learned about the prophecy and Fates that caused Devilyn to stay away from her before, she tried her very best to enjoy his company. But, her wish doesn't last long when...

"cliffhanger" - this book really got me hooked to Devilyn, making me wanted more of him and Caroline as they tried not to bowed to Fates. can't wait for next installation!!!!

The Dark King is a great teen romance with fantasy! The characters have majorly changed in this installment of the fae series. Caroline is the same as she was in the previous book, she actually lost all memory of what happened. Devilyn is much darker and harder than he was before, much more volatile. Most of the previous characters have changed and adapted, mostly for the better. Lots more characters have been added, there's even now a love triangle of sorts going on. There is even a huge improvement in writing in this book, it's far more polished and theres a stronger sense of direction. A lot of different things are coming to light and dots are starting to be connected. I feel the ending was a bit rushed though, however, it wasn't really a bad or detrimental rush. Great fantasy romance for teens, nothing particularly bad or inappropriate in this tale.

As we dive into the second installment of the Fae trilogy, darkness is descending over Roanoke Island. If memory serves, we left off with Devilyn crossing over to the world of the Dark Fae to become their King. His job is to fulfill the prophecy that states he will unite Dark and Light Fae once and for all. Except since crossing over to the Dark Fae...he's been a little different. Those closest to him, those who love him, worry that he will never be the same again, that every trace of Light he once had is gone and that most importantly, he cannot be trusted.

Caroline, the final heir of the Light Fae and so on, abandoned by her true love (see above), has to get on with things without the protection of her one true love (or memory of him). She has to evade those in the Dark court who want to destroy her and she has to embrace her own strength to do so. Turns out Caroline has a nifty little talent...she can use Light to change a Fate itself.

Caroline and Devilyn have some insane chemistry as readers of the first book will recall, and they have that whole destiny thing but unless they can get the will to overcome the The Darkness and The Fates...destiny might not be so inevitable.

So, I loved Fae, NetGalley has so many awesome books, but when they're a series you're left scouring the new additions pages to find the next in the series, and I honestly did a double take when I spotted this. I was so excited to read the next book, ordinarily I'd have re-read the first book, but I didn't have time to do so, so I was working off of what I could vaguely remember, luckily C.J is good at refreshing your memory!

I gladly leaped back in to the magical world the author weaves with such skill. I mean with the ending of Fae, I couldn't read this installment fast enough. The first book hooked because of the whole Lost Colony thing, with me being such a history geek I couldn't resist, but I carried on reading because of the characters and the plot. The Dark King hooked me right from the beginning and I couldn't stop reading!

The Dark King is every bit as fast paced, action packed and hard to put down as the previous installment. Lots of sequels fail to measure up to the first book, but The Dark King more than matches up, if not exceeds entirely, the first book! It was the perfect sequel.

I was excited to see how the characters would react to the end of Fae, and I must say, I really enjoyed the character growth from certain characters. I love watching characters grow and change, don't worry though guys, Devilyn's love for Caroline is still going strong, that doesn't change one bit! The character growth, for me, made the characters even more likeable. I loved watching how Caroline accepted her fate/heritage this time round, and had a totally different attitude about it, as a result. Titania...well her character growth is truly astounding, she's totally different from Fae, and I'm growing to like her quite a bit! I was also super excited to discover new characters in the book!

The new characters where written with as much care and detail as our characters from the first book, each with plenty of depth and brought to life on the page quite realistically. Did I mention one of the new characters is a boy who's after Caroline? No? Well, all I'll say about that is that it was very well written, usually that sort of thing can irritate me if it's not done correctly, but it's like Abedi gets inside my head and knows what I want to see! Don't worry though, I wouldn't class it as a love triangle! This new development was interesting, added some drama, and gave Devilyn a kick up the ass, I'd say.
There is, however, more than one character that I could quite happily hit in the face. With a brick. It's a testament to Abedi's writing that I actually got so angry just from reading about fictional people, but there you go. Abedi can really get you emotionally involved in the book, which is always a good thing!

I really had missed this world. Everything is written so vividly you can picture it all clearly like a movie playing in your head, and the characters are all written so well you get quite emotionally attached to them. The Dark King was no different, and there where moments where I really wanted to smack Devilyn for the whole "pushing her away" thing. But I wouldn't really because at the same time you get such insight in to the characters you kinda just wanna hug him as well. I enjoyed seeing more of the friendship between Caroline and Teddy, it's expertly written and brings a smile to your face to read scenes with them. The banter between them reminds me of myself and a couple of my friends every know and again, not going to lie!

I was pleased to see Odin, among others, still present. In the first book, the thing I really loved was the mythology of the Fae and the Norse mythology element all mixed together, and I was pleased it was still present, and not totally shoved to the side in favour of action and such, like a lot of authors do. I just can't get enough of it!

To the plot then! I don't want to say too much because I don't want to give it away. We have a lot of different threads coming together, and really building up to what I'm hoping is going to be a spectacular conclusion. There's a lot of the whole pushing Caroline away and trying to get her to hate him type thing for the first half, and the last half (which involves a camping trip), was where the action really took off. That doesn't mean the book wasn't fast paced from the off, and doesn't grip you from the beginning because as I said, I was hooked the whole way through.

Now, I read so many YA paranormal romances, I've experienced this feeling so many times, mostly with Gena Showalter (Alice Through the Zombie Glass), Sarah Rees Brennan (Unspoken etc) and Cassie Clare (ANY Mortal Instruments book), and yes I'm putting Abedi with them. Whenever things get all happy and things get fixed and it's all going swimmingly, no matter how many pages are left, I get suspicious. Really suspicious. Because I know somethings going to happen. Something's going to go wrong and everything's going to go wrong. Abedi gets to join these three prestigious authors because as I said, I'm always suspicious and rightly so. The cliffhanger literally came out of nowhere and I just sat there for a while like "what the hell just happened?!"

I'm not going to lie, I read fast, and I whizzed through this in a couple of hours because I just couldn't put it down. It was so fast paced, I couldn't find a place in the book for me to end it, so I settled down with some green tea and popcorn and sat gripped by the book from start to finish. More than once with everything going on between Caroline and Devilyn I may or may not have muttered "OH COME ON" more than once! For me their relationship was written so perfectly in the first book, it took time, and I like how the relationship continued to be written realistically and enjoyably, the author knew where the boundaries where between enjoyable and dragging something out.

The Dark King continues the standards set down in Fae. The world is a familiar one, and every bit as magical as it was the first time round, with everything painted clearly for you with a few words. The characters growth, in some cases, makes you love them more, and watching the characters so obviously grow is satisfying. The mythology is still going strong, and the threads of the plot are twining together to create something truly amazing.

The Dark King has everything you could want, romance, action, magic and much, much more. Gripping you from the start, you find yourself frantically turning pages to get to the end, unable to guess or predict any of the plot twists, you find yourself gasping, and unable to put the book down for ANYTHING. The Dark king really will make you quite emotional, such is the way the book pulls you in. Fast paced, full of action, and a perfectly written romance The Dark King is a strong installment in the trilogy.

As always the only thing I didn't like was the cliffhanger at the end, because I just can't cope with them and the waiting for the next book in the series, and the needing to know what happened so incredibly badly!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Sigh. Caroline and Devilyn are just the pair of star-crossed lovers you want to spend hours reading about. This book was a beautiful love story with a Fae and YA twist. One warning: contents contain cliffhangers.

We pick up with a Caroline who doesn’t remember the love that she and Devilyn shared before he became the Dark King. She’s still in the awkward crush phase of their relationship while Devilyn is struggling in his efforts to ignore his strong feelings because he knows she returns them. The first half of the book was spent with both of them pushing and pulling at each other in an effort to either make themselves happy or sacrifice their feelings to save the other. The
“grown-ups” around them (Odin, Dana, etc.) were really trying to be the voice of reason and, thankfully, at about the halfway mark we enter a much happier place.

Sadly, during all the happy times I was on the edge of my seat waiting for things to fall apart. Maybe it’s because I read too many paranormal romances, but when everyone gets really happy with many chapters still left to go, I get paranoid. In this book my paranoia was justified, because the cliffhanger really came out of nowhere. We were well on our way to HEA territory when we get smacked in the face with a cliffhanger. For me, this doesn’t really hurt my overall enjoyment of the story, though. The love story was beautiful to read from both POVs and I’m still rooting for this doomed love affair. Hell, I am even rooting for Teddy and Devilyn’s sister. I’m a sucker for a romance. The story just keeps getting better.

I was given this book by the author in exchange for an honest review.

What do you do when you're a Fae and your soul mate is your enemy but you cannot help but love them and the thought of being without them crushes everything about you... But you know everything about them is wrong and bad... But there is magik that brings you two together and you cannot deny it?! *drama*

...and that's only a small part of this story. Although I would absolutely love it if they wrote a novella or spin off novel on that story.

I have been looking forward to reading this since the moment I read the last word in book 1. I was very excited - and was not disappointed.

I have to say, it was better than book 1. Which is saying a lot, because I really enjoyed the first one. I liked how much the characters matured, it made me like them more. Also, there were a good amount of time that I found myself holding my breath in anticipation of what was to come.

The worst part of this book was that I have to wait for book 3. I eagerly await it.

The second part of the Fae trilogy does not disappoint. Picking up the story a few months after the end of Fae, The Dark King follows Devilyn as he continues to push away his on true love, Caroline the Light Queen while accepting what the Fates have in store for him.

With evil closing in from all sides, and a new boy in town competing for Caroline's attention, Devilyn is torn between light and dark. When Caroline learns the truth of her background she refuses to let Devilyn push her away and accept their love.

I simultaneously wanted to smack Devilyn for his actions and give him a hug. The friendly relationship between Caroline & Teddy is warm and light hearted.

Two characters made my blood boil and to me, if an author can get you riled up just from a few written a words, then they've done a good job. Both characters belong in the fiery pits of hell!

The Dark King is full of different threads, twists and turns that are surely leading up to a finale where everything comes together.

Amazing second book of the new series, Fae. Sometimes it is very hard for a second novel to live up to the hype or the tone set in a first novel. "The Dark King" more than lives up to "Fae", it surpasses it. Loved the book from first page to last and I can't wait to see what the third book will bring!

Really I mean she gets kidnapped and it just ends. What the hell happen to Rowan being able to sense Puck when he was around. I found that I missed Caroline in this book. She didn't have the same spunk as the first book. I hope she returns in the last book. I really can't wait for the next installment

Wow, Wow, WOW!!!! I'm not even sure where to begin. I loved this book so much!

The Dark King by C.J. Abedi is the highly anticipated (at least by me) sequel to Fae and picks up a few months after the events at the end of book one. Devilyn is now the dark king, having banished his father Alderon to a Yew tree and embracing the dark that runs in his blood. Caroline is back to being clueless about her heritage, thanks to Devilyn who erased her memories at the conclusion of Fae, and she's never been in more danger. Puck, Alderon's faithful minion, has served his thousand year sentence and is back on Earth ready to wreak havoc on the unsuspecting humans. Oh and he'd love nothing more than to kill Caroline.

I love these characters! Caroline is your typical beautiful, nerdy high school student, or at least she thinks she is thanks to Devilyn's sly trick. And unfortunately that belief lasts much longer in the book than I liked. I was ready for her to remember sooner rather than later. But she is still a strong-willed, stubborn character and surprisingly she accepts her fate in stride this time. In fact, she's very accepting with a "what next" attitude. I loved it!

Devilyn's character struggles this book. After centuries of fighting the darkness in him, he is now the dark king. Everything he hates, he has become, and a part of him likes this, so of course he loathes himself. He refuses to accept Odin's unfailing love, and he is suspicious of his half-sister who betrayed him in the last book. His character does a lot of growing in this book, and it's his struggles that make for an emotional ride this book.

Teddy and Tatiana are back in this installment. Teddy is his fun-loving, comic relief self. His easy banter with Caroline and his nonchalant way of acting about....well, everything lends a lighter tone to this otherwise dark book. Tatiana is much more reserved this book. She truly regrets what she did to Devilyn and Caroline and is trying to fight the darkness that resides in her blood. And I for one hope she wins. I disliked her in Fae but her demeanor and character are so drastically different from book one that I felt sorry for her and actually began liking her.

There is an addition to this cast of characters, Rowan. Rowan is a warrior and prince of the Light Fae. We actually meet Rowan in book one briefly, but in this book he has been sent by Dana to protect Caroline now that Devilyn has gone dark. I love Rowan, he is the exact opposite of Devilyn's character. Rowan is fun, lighthearted, and he brings the real Caroline out of her shell. In fact, Caroline relies on Rowan and she wishes she felt for him the way she does for Devilyn. Love triangle you ask? Sorta. Not quite though and that's what makes his character even more likable in my opinion.

This installment is so fast paced, much more than book one. I found I couldn't read fast enough to keep up with the suspense! Between Puck's antics and Katya's jealousy, Devilyn and Caroline couldn't get a break. The majority of the action takes place in the last half of the book, when the entire junior class is on a week long camping trip. Once I hit the main action, I couldn't set the book down and finished it in just over a day.

But this book isn't all suspense. The turmoiled romance between Devilyn and Caroline is featured throughout the book. This back and forth on Devilyn's part of saying he doesn't want her and hurting Caroline so she won't want him when in reality she is all he wants/needs. And Caroline so angry with him, yet so in love that she is willing to do whatever it may take to have that once in a lifetime love. Their trials reminds me a lot of the song If I Never Knew You from Pocahontas, corny I know, but those first few lines fit Devilyn and Caroline perfectly.

I have no complaints about this book, no dislikes. That's a first for me! Even the major (and I mean that!!!) cliffhanger ending, I didn't hate. In fact, it just makes me want book three even more. I guess I'll wait a year like everyone else. If you enjoyed book one or enjoy fairy mythology blended with real historical facts, a little romance, and a lot of suspense, I highly recommend this book/series. You won't be disappointed!!!

OHMYGOD MOOOOORE PLEASE! You have no idea what I went through just to get a copy of this book (without shelling out dough of course) because there were no free files available on the Internet for download. I went to the bookstores all to no avail because they didn't even have records of this book. So I just decided to exploit my Post-paid plan and buy the book from Google Play Store.

But anyway, omygodomygodomygod I was sooo drawn to this book like Devilyn was to Caroline and vice versa! This book wasn't really the best but there was something in it that made it really hard for me to put it down. It was definitely a guilty pleasure, only one that was overflowing with feels and angst and made me frustrated over and over YOU FUCKING FAERIES. Sorry for swearing so much I just finished reading it, everything was still so fresh.

This one is wayyyyy better written than the first one and it really delivered in terms of the fantasy romance angle and "magik." I found the secondary or the supporting characters really helpful this time and even the swayed narratives about the world of Fae were welcomed. I even loved Tatiana and I was hoping she'd stay there in the Light.

About that love story I was bragging about -- Devilyn was a sick motherfucking dickwad and I couldn't really hate him for it because like Caroline, I was semiconsciously attracted to danger. Why not? Devillyn was dangerous and danger could only ignite passion to anyone. I was so frustrated because the two of them kept going back and forth about their feelings that in the end I was just like "FFS stop being such a tease and just suckface!" And I'm so beyond thankful they did! That desolating, gut-wrenching dance inside the drama room, holy shit! And that profession of lust.. I mean love, at the camp -- I was undone.

I was even surprised that Lifehouse's Only You're The One was on repeat as I went through different parts of the book because that scene during homecoming was so monumental I just had to download the song. *I wasn't even a Lifehouse fan, you guiseee*

At one point I even rooted for Rowan because sick motherfucking dickwad Devilyn was so fickle he deserved to be ruined by the Gods themselves. I mean I get his apprehension and I tried to understand why he kept on pushing her away. But if you'd think about it, he was a Dark King and he was always consumed by darkness so just be evil and do evil (do evil things to Caroline in your fortress BAHAHAHA!). But then this happened. . .

Caroline: Are we done?
Devilyn: Not in a million years, baby.

He called her BABY!!! BABY!!! BABY LIGHT QUEEN FAERY!!! So just like that I'm on "Team sick motherfucking dickwad Devilyn" again.

I like the way the authors told the parallel stories of Tara and Alderon with Caroline and Devilyn's. It was so spot on. I really enjoyed those little glimpses in the world of Fae at the beginning of each chapter because they corresponded perfectly with the narratives. It was thematic in a way, maybe even foreboding sometimes. Idk I just really enjoyed it.

Halfway through the book I decided that my review would have to warrant 5stars because I was enjoying it too much but then the camping part happened and Copeland referred to Caroline as a damsel-in-distress. I hated that. I hate girls being called in fantasy novels as damsels-in-fuckloads-of-distress (how freaking cliche!) because it's 2015 and we ought to paint female protagonists as strong bitches who could take care of themselves. It's really about time.

I wished the authors just let Caroline fully embrace her Light Fae Queen status than a damsel who needed three pixie boyguards all the time! Wtf can't she shoot light rays and do something queen-ish at least and stop drooling over the sight of her sick motherfucking dickwad boyfriend?! A weak female protagonist is my pet peeve. And because this book was written by two writers who I believe are strong-willed women, I was mildly disappointed that they went the damsel route. A Dark Fae Queen Caroline would be more tolerable than a queen waiting all the damn time to be saved tbh.

Back to loving the book, these authors always have a way with endings. The endings of the two books have been effective cliffhangers. Those endings that would make you go "Oh crap it couldn't end just like that!" Safe to say I was more than looking forward to the last one (ugly crying).

This review wasn't helpful or appropriate, I was sure of it. I just needed to let off steam. :)

Devilyn and Caroline. Why can I not seem to get enough of these two?
C.J Abedi's Fae series continues with The Dark King, taking off a short time after Fae ends, we find out that Devilyn has confronted his father, Alderon, and defeated him in battle, becoming the king of the dark Fae. He has also sworn to take no more part in Caroline's life. But really, Devilyn, you think you can stay away forever?
Not a chance.
But of course, lest we forget, Caroline's mind at the end of the first Fae book had been wiped of their romance by Devilyn's heartfelt farewell kiss. So of course, The Dark King is filled with a whole lot more of the heart-in-your-throat romance that we so dearly loved from the last book.
The Dark King keeps you going from beginning to end, dashing back and forth between perspectives so that you can see how our beloved Romeo and Juliet of the Fae world respond to each others actions and their own personal take on this wild adventure of romance, passion, desire, confliction, danger, and above all love.
I very much enjoyed this second installment to the Fae trilogy, as it deepens our understanding of the stories background and the struggle that Devilyn and Caroline now have to face with the threat of their enemies and the possible destruction of their love, and more, Caroline's life. There is much more for the characters to fear in this book as their prophecy takes hold and darkness (and a little light) descends on their union. The battle that takes place within Devilyn as he has become the Dark King is also very interesting to see. Conflict of emotions is becoming a key factor in Devilyn's life, and his decisions are growing in importance, every one that he makes can make or break him. His fickle nature has become even more intense as he fights with his feelings for Caroline, especially in the reality if possible losing her to someone else. But who doesn't love a possible love triangle?
As the story progresses, and we fall head over heels for our two lovers, we find Devilyn has made his grand entrance into Caroline's life once more. But of course, its only because there’s a threat to her life, nothing more (Yeah, right.). Of course, Caroline doesn't remember any of their past romance (thankfully we do =] ) . But that doesn't stop the overwhelming sensation that the sight of Devilyn brings to her, even after her budding friendship with the oh-so-handsome Rowan. At the realization of possibly losing Caroline's heart, Devilyn brings himself too close for his own good, drawing our damsel in before pushing her back time and time again. Will Caroline feel that shes had enough and move on?
Things start becoming very real and very dangerous all at the same time as enemies grow against them while they try to figure out their feelings and possible future. But will our characters be ready for it? Attacks start happening during a (oh so timely) school field trip, and Devilyn has a good idea who they are from. The building Darkness is a growing danger to Caroline's life and Devilyn will stop at nothing to protect her.
The book ends on a cliffhanger that will definitely leave you face planted in your pillow asking yourself “why?” for at least five minutes, but the story itself will leave you with a satisfying romance buzz that you can keep dreaming about until the next book comes!

Book one of this series, Fae, really left me wanting more and book two, The Dark King, certainly did not disappoint! Of course, I am still left wanting more; but I will just have to exercise my patience and wait for book three :)

Devilyn has defeated his father and taken his place as the Dark King. Caroline, because she had her memories erased in book one, doesn’t remember the love that they shared; although she does still have memories of Devilyn. I found it rather ironic that at the beginning of the book Caroline has to play the part of Juliet in her drama class (which she didn’t sign up for…. hmmm… wonder whose doing that was); because she and Devilyn really are a pair of star-crossed lovers who should not be together, but can not resist the pull they feel towards each other. We all know that usually does not end well.

What do you do when the one person that you love is the enemy? We spend the first half of this book with Caroline and Devilyn trying to resist the pull they feel to one another and everyone around them trying to be the voice of reason. Odin and Brighid trying to convince Devilyn that he does not have to embrace the Dark and he most certainly does not have to become what his father was. About halfway through everyone is in a much happier place, but how long can that last? The dominoes are set in place, but who will be the one to push the first one and cause the whole line to fall? Will it be Puck; who is just waiting for Devilyn to slip up so he can decipher where Alderan is being held prisoner and set him free? As much of a bad guy as Puck is, I truly like his character even though he would love nothing more than to kill Caroline. Oh the drama! Oh the suspense!

All of the great characters from book one are back and one that made an appearance is introduced fully. Rowan is a Light Fae warrior and sent to protect Caroline from Devilyn. He is the exact opposite of everything that Devilyn is. His character is light hearted and funny. I thought we might have a love triangle going on, but that’s not how Rowan plays the game and it makes his character even more likeable. Teddy is still his funny self. He keeps Caroline grounded and doesn’t let the heavy stuff weigh her down. And surprisingly, Tatiana becomes a character I start to enjoy! She regrets what she did in book one and is trying to fight the Dark within her.

This pacing of this book is faster than in book one. Once you hit the middle you can’t put it down! Puck’s antics will keep you on the edge of your seat and Katya’s jealousy makes you just want to claw her eyes out. While there is much more suspense in this book, the underlying love story is still there. Caroline is all that Devilyn wants, but yet he doesn’t want to hurt her so he continuously tries to push her away. Caroline is so angry with Devilyn, but she loves him so deeply that she will do whatever it takes to have him.

We end with a huge cliffhanger; which only makes me anticipate book three even more! Usually I am frustrated with cliffhangers, especially if I know that I am going to have to wait for the conclusion, but this series is definitely worth the wait! If you love all things Fae, mythology, some historical facts thrown in for good measure, a bit of romance, and a whole heck of a lot of suspense then you will truly enjoy this book.

Book description:

Darkness descends over Roanoke Island in the sequel to the young adult bestseller, FAE.

Devilyn Reilly has crossed over to the sinister world of The Dark Fae, reigning over the realm as its King. He is to fulfill a prophecy--to unite the Light and Dark Fae once and for all, but those who love him now fear that he will never be the same again, that he can no longer be trusted, that every trace of the Light he once had is gone forever.

Caroline Ellis, the final heir of the Light Fae, must learn to survive without the protection of her one true love. She must come to embrace her own strength to evade those in the Dark court who seek her destruction—for the power is within Caroline to use Light to change Fate itself...

Caroline and Devilyn’s chemistry is undeniable. Their destiny together inevitable if only they have the will to overcome The Darkness and The Fates.

THE DARK KING, the second installment of the stunning Fae trilogy propels readers into the mystical and magical world of the Light and Dark Fae, where star-crossed love ignites a battle between two powerful kingdoms, one that can consume everything that stands in its path.(less)

REVIEW:

The Dark King was immediately gripping and suspenseful from the beginning. I did not read the first book in this trilogy, but loved this second installment all the same. Devilyn I is a sexy character just because ... Well he is the DARK KING! But he also has light inside him and his adopted father (Odin) believes that light can prevail.

I love the magic in the book. Dark Fae ~ Light Fae and all of these magical beings that the human world is mostly ignorant of under their noses. There were so many intense scenes with Devilyn trying to protect Caroline (the unknowing Light Queen) while denying his love for her to keep from hurting her himself.

The story was full of fun as well. They were all either in high school (or pretending to be). Caoline's best friend Teddy is the best, funny, caring, & always lightening the mood among all of these Fae with the world on their shoulders.

I am glad I was provided this book free for review or I might have denied to read it. Eventhough it is romantic, it has so much more good vs evil, making your own decisions, fighting fir what you want, encouragement and some pretty interesting points of view on life in general. I very much enjoyed it.

The Dark King picks up where FAE left off, Devilyn assumes his role as King, but his heart is not in it, how can it be when all he can think about is Caroline. He’s still as swoon worthy as he was before, brooding, tormented, and confused. I feel on love with him all over again but at the same time, I felt sorry for him. He has the great responsibility of the throne, but he knows that means being away from Caroline
Just as the dark coursed through my veins my desire for Caroline moved through me
He’s still making decisions that he feels is best without consulting Caroline, so for most of the book, they are operating around each other like strangers! Caroline still has feelings for Devilyn but feels as if her memories have been a dream.
The desire for him, to kiss him, was earth shattering
Caroline seemed a lot stronger in this book. She’s less willing to put up with Devilyn’s moodiness. She loves him, and although the pieces are a but fuzzy, it seemed liked she slapped some sense into him! Thank God, all you’re going to want is for these two to be together. Not even the temptation of a handsome new stranger keeps Caroline from Devilyn!
I highlighted most of the book, everything that came out of Devilyn, Caroline, Odin, and even Alderon’s mouth I loved!!! I didn't appreciate Odin’s wisdom and his love for Devilyn in FAE. There are some foreshadowing moments between Odin and Devilyn that had me in tears! Alderon is still on his campaign to destroy Caroline, Odin, and Devilyn. He has the help of a few new characters who run a muck, causing all types of havoc, with a promise of more to come in book 3!

The feels you will have while reading this book…I’m so glad I had a support system via FAE Trilogy UK and FAEnatics SA! From the minute I began this book, I was swept away into the magik, that I don’t want to end! I. CAN’T. WAIT. for book 3! The Dark King is another masterpiece from duo CJ Abedi!

There are not enough words in the English language to describe how much I loved this book.

*SPOILER ALERT*
Devilyn Reilly has now crossed over to the darkness and become “The Dark King. It consumes him but there is that tiny ray of light called…Caroline Ellis. As much as he tries to forget her, he can’t!

Caroline, heir of the Light Fae, is struggling to survive without the love of Devilyn. In typical teenage manner, the moods between the two of them change constantly! She loves him but is trying to move on. He loves her but won’t be with her as he is now Dark. You want to take these two and say in Cher “Moonstruck” fashion…”SNAP OUT OF IT.”

We meet some new characters in this book which cause tension and trouble, but of course the old one’s return. Odin gives his ever loving advice to Devilyn. And Dana returns to try accept what cannot be. And, *MAJOR SPOILER ALERT*, Alderon is BACKKK! *FAINTS* You have to read to find out how
!
We see a lot of development of old characters including Tara, Devilyn’s mother! The scenes with her and Devilyn will give you the feels!!!

Out of the two books in the FAE series so far, this is the best! I don’t know how CJ Abedi managed to top FAE, but they did!
Cannot wait to read Book 3 but also don’t want this series to end. *sobs*

FIVE STARS FOR THIS AMAZING BOOK!

Finally. Dark King is here.

The last book was a total cliffhanger which kind of sour my mood. But, yay!

But O.M.G. my short happy moment went spiraling down when guess what? It's even more of a cliffhanger. Boo...

But I'll take what I can get.

It keeps getting better. I still like Devilyn despite how his character changed from the last book. The thing that hasn't changed is his love for Caroline and he would do anything to protect even from himself. What kind of frustrated me the most was when Caroline kind of forgotten about him and others (which I won't spoil).

Ah, but Devilyn, oh lala. Is there going to be some kind of competition? For Caroline? Well, the new characters were pretty interesting and especially one light fae prince. Although it's not really going to be a love triangle since we all know what the prophecy is about.

The Dark King has a fast paced like the previous one and it keeps getting interesting especially at some point where I couldn't stop reading it even when I want to.

I'm so happy that this second installment fitted well. I was hoping it wouldn't be quite a disappointment. And it turned out better than I expected.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review (LoP or Lovers of Paranormal)

When I first started this book I was hooked into it. This was a long book to read but it was worth it! The plot was amazing and the characters were just as amazing. I love Rowan, Devon, Caroline, Teddy and Tatiana. I also enjoyed how they posed as high school students and were able to pass themselves off as humans even though they weren't around them that much. They just made the story fit and the descriptions that was included in the story helped you to understand it even more. I love how she found out who she was again and the banter between them both. What I loved the most was him trying to push her away and try to fight against the odds. At first he wanted to protect her from his father even though he knew it was hard to resist her. This book helps you experience what the characters feel and the emotions with the book. I have to say I love the ending and how it left off for the next book. It makes you want more and to learn all you can about the characters. I also can't wait to see what happens between his dad and everyone. I would recommend it to anyone that likes reading about Fae and enjoys a great story!

I was given this book, in exchange for an honest review. The Dark King is a wonderful continuation of the FAE series. Abedi has taken Devilyn and Caroline's story to a new dimension and added several new characters that have added richness to the novel. Each of their back stories have been added too as well, which further develops Devilyn and Caroline's individual characters. The story is well written and keeps the reader engaged throughout. The only complaint I have about the book is its abrupt ending. I know this is probably designed to make the reader want to read the next book in the series, but it was really unexpected. With that being said, I will definitely be reading book three because I need to know what happens. The Dark King does require a close read so you don't miss details that are important to the story line.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review from the Author and the “Lovers of Paranormal” Group on Goodreads.com

As Devilyn and Caroline's story continues we find Devilyn trying to cope with his feelings for Caroline. He needs to keep his distance in order to keep her safe, but we don't always get what we want. Caroline is torn in two because of Devilyn's actions towards her and she is very confused as to what he wants. There are a few twists in this story and it is a great follow up to Fae. I think this is a really good story for both adults and YA readers.

Received a free copy of this book from Goodreads First Reads. Thank you!!

Wow, this book was really good. I had not read the first book Fae when I won this book so I bought a copy and read it.

This book picks up right where Fae leaves off. The writing was better in this one, not as much repetative wording and phrases, it seemed to flow much better.

Looking forward to reading more by C.J. Abedi. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

I find myself a mix of emotions.
Firstly, Tatiana, my dear: I'm on your team 100%.
Secondly, can you have a more panic-inducing ending?! I mean really, why must I wait AGES for answers? I'm about to just pack up and go to Roanoke for some quality fae time!
On a more serious note, I'm delighted that this book series happened to my life. My mind will always treasure it; indeed, my mind has become a palace for such treasures.

I live for fantasy and this book took me to a world I wish I could be a part of. I absolutely love this book! Loved the characters and the story line. It ends rather abrupt and left me wanting. Can't wait for the third and last book! I have hopes that Caroline will change the fates.
