Marooned! Cut off from back up, and all hope of resupply, these high tech near future mercenaries find themselves stranded in a primitive world, with only the faintest hope for going home again. Stranded with only what they could bring with them, what is their fate to be when the supplies run out? Left with no other choice but to improvise, adapt, and over come, come see what Colonel Smith and his men make of the greatest adventure of their lives.
I liked the story line, but the literary mistakes detract from the story. Their, there and they're do not convey the same meaning. Words running together and out of order also detract from the enjoyment of the story.
Meet Sargent Floundring and his Hobbling Commandoes. Dear (Grown-ups) friends, the only way to enjoy this is to see it as a comic book for boys. Thrilling adventure. Grown-ups have to groan, maybe chuckle here and there. The heroes are no heroes. They are mercenaries with. Murky morals. In fact, they are thieves and criminals. SPOILERS In an alternate Earth, in the near future, "rejuvination" is invented. How it works the author doesn't tell us. It is fairly new, and is not offered to everyone at once. The Main Character is around 80. Not eligible. So he and his army buddies get it on the black market. They then have 20 year bodies. Even the MC admits that they didn't get smarter... They are offered a 6 months contract, taking care of an "archeolgist". The archeolgist is a magician, who wants to go home to his alternate Earth. Once there, he dies and they are stranded, they need another magician... The new Earth is strange. They set out from where Babylon used to be, and go to London... Now, the author knows some history, but retells it very shallowly. The Near East seems to be a couple of millennia behind us, London is ca 18th to 19th century. The 'Americans' are very, shall we say redneck. They are, of course, fans of the second amendment. They hate their government. They seem to think that there are only two classes of people; nobility, which are only jumped up, cowardly gangsters, and serfs. Kill all the nobility and set the serfs free? Well, start slower. Mind they say this with straight faces, almost at the same time as "A good communist is a dead communist". They steal and kill. Whore. A lot. Once they arrive in London, they behave like Yankees at King Arthur's court. Everything they introduce is quickly accepted and acclaimed. Mark Twain's hero had to work harder. SPOILER END This should not be read as serious, but I think the author means it. Light entertainment, if you like floundering, and contradictions. The heroes are mostly not to bad separately. The vide discrepancis between the land between the floods, which is very primitive,Rome, which is medieval and London, pre-industrial, is very unbelievable. With no Alexander, no Muhammed, no British Empire to interfere, the people of Euphrat and Tigris should be more advanced. The author doesn't know, or ignores willfully.

This is exactly the kind of story I want to read, but I do wish the author would slow down and develop scenes and situations a little deeper. Perhaps work on character arcs.
A good editor would be helpful, too. The book was full of annoying little typos: near-homophone and homophone swaps, misnaming characters, and the like.
All that grumpiness aside, I'm off to read book 2 in this series now.
Refreshingly unique story. Author's story telling is second to none. Needs better editing.
What a wonderful story. I greatly enjoyed it. This book would have been a four or five stars had it not been for the poor editing. I also stopped reading it several times over this problem. Maybe I got a bad download or something. Still I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good story.
Colonel Smith is a leader of a group of mercenaries protecting a dig site in Iraq. An imminent attack by armed forces causes the expedition leader to evacuate all personal through a magic portal to a different world. A monster kills the mage leaving them stranded with no way back. I like the action, humor, and time twists. I look forward to another book.
This would’ve been five stars, except for two things: editing problems, especially punctuation and spelling, and a very rough start. The book was not set up well, but if you hang in there and put up with the bad punctuation and spelling mistakes, it’s worth it.
This is the second adventure series i`ve read. Seems like a spelling autocorrect ran wild a few times and proofreading should have been better. That said I really enjoy his books and will continue following him.
I enjoyed these take of special ops misplace in the , multiverse. The archeologist had a short but major impact. Homonyms are a problem in the text. A good copy editor would help with that, even with that it was a fun tead
Amazing book, start to a fine new series to dig my teeth into. Military, Fantasy and Science Fiction this book as it all, jump on for the ride and support the author.
