مانديلا : المتمرد الذي قاد أمته إلى الحرية

Rate this book

Nelson Mandela comes to life in this portrait of a diplomatic man whose commitment to freedom gained him both the Nobel Peace Prize and Time’s Man of the Year honor. The son of a Thembu chief in South Africa, Mandela began his life-long campaign against white colonial rule while a college student. Kramer’s eloquent, yet approachable text describes the leader’s dedication to nonviolence, his role in the African National Congress and his arrest in 1962 for sabotage and conspiracy. During his 27 years in prison, Mandela continued his fight for a democratic and free society, and ultimately was released and elected president of South Africa.

Ann Kramer was born and educated in London but left school as soon as possible to work and travel; much later, as a ‘mature’ student, she gained an honours degree in history from Sussex University.

Her first job in publishing was as an editorial researcher, checking scripts for BBC quiz programmes. Subsequently she went freelance and worked as an editor with various publishing companies, including Diagram Visual Information, Dorling Kindersley, where she was the senior editor for DK’s Children’s Illustrated Encyclopedia, and Gaia. Increasingly, however, she concentrated on writing. For many years she wrote illustrated non-fiction books for children and young people, but now writes mainly for adults.

The book is about Nelson Mandela, the world most famous South African. It covers four parts of his life; early years, a serious student, in prison and Mr. President.

Nelson Mandela had a unique life, he went through a transformation that shapes his personality. He was born in 1918 in a time where he was living in a country in which his own people the black Africans were presented over 80% of the population.

They had no political voice and Mandela himself never voted in a government election until 1994. He was in prison for 26 years and unfortunately Africans that time still don’t have the right to vote. After only 4 years of the moment he was stepped out of the prison he became president of the country.

When he was freed, he worked with the South African president to write a new constitution with an opened election for everybody with peace and that was the first open election that happened in South Africa.

Mandela was able to change his nation and also was able to be presented as a hero for most people who are suffering during the hard events in life.

This was a very brief history on Mandela but I thought it was really good. Very basic details but there was still enough information contained in it to get an understanding of his life and what he went through. I got the impression the book was written for maybe 12 to 14 year olds but I could be wrong. It would be a good choice for getting people interested in history.

A very good book for the junior reader. Lots of well placed pictures. I have read better junior-level books, but I still liked knowing this one is available. Released in 2005, it covers his most substantially active years.

This book by Ann Kramer has a catchy title that probably will not mean much to children, but I feel like adults can read this as well, and seeing Nelson Mandela as a "rebel" might not be a good word to describe him, but do not let that take anything from this book about Nelson Mandela.

It talks about the world most famous South African, Nelson Mandela of course, covering four parts of his life; early years, a student, while he was in prison and as the President.
This book is more of a timeline type of biography, pictures really will not be found her, just a lot of useful information on Nelson Mandela.

In Mandela: The Rebel Wh Led HIs Nation To Freedom, By Ann kramer, A young boy named Nelson Mandela grows up wanting nothing more than to be someone in the world. But when Apartheid starts in 1948, Mandela would do everything in his power to try and put a stop to it. Mandela does protests, joins boycott groups, and even sabotages government property to get what he wants. Then, at a point of his life, Mandela is prosecuted in court and is sent to prison. Mandela: The Rebel Wh Led HIs Nation To Freedom, by Ann Kramer is about hope, determination, and equality.

I like the way this book is organized and it's a pretty easy, straight-forward read. I'd definitely think about buying more books from this series for my classroom library because it strikes me as really accessible. I like the mix of pictures and captions and text.

The information about Mandela is very useful and I like the running timeline that covers the whole book. Very informative and fun to read!

Another great biography from the National Geographic World History Biographies series. Aimed at the junior/intermediate set, this book has lots of documentary pictures and facts in side bars. Great for students studying Mandela or heroes in general.

Sometimes it's tough to get kids to read biographies, but The World History Biography series by National Geographic make these topics accessible for kids (and adults) alike. I know I have learned a lot from these books, and hope you will enjoy them, too!
