The Beastly Baron is not a nice man. He shouts too much and doesn’t keep his promises. When he breaks his word to the Warty Witch though, things go very badly for him. Follow the Baron as his day goes from bad to worse. Meet the Warty Witch of the Wild Western Woods, whose attempts to teach the Baron a lesson go very wrong. Marvel at the never-ending appetite of the Greedy Goat of the Glen as she bites off rather more than she can stomach. And cheer on Greta as she struggles to find a way to save her brother Hal from the sticky clutches of the Gossamer Green Ghost.
Jeremy Hullah grew up in the rural Midlands, where he spent a lot of time dreaming about being a pianist or a writer, or something equally unattainable without the required level of effort. After proving beyond all doubt that education was not something that came naturally, he moved to London where he worked on building sites for a few years before retraining in IT. Now, many years later, he works for a bank in the City, writing books on the train to and from his home in East Sussex, where he spends whatever time is left cycling around the countryside, dreaming up ideas for new books to keep his two boys entertained.

This is the first book we have read by this author but it definitely won't be out last!!!
We all really enjoyed this absolutely fantastic and beautiful illustrated children's book as a family. The storyline is unique which is very difficult to find when it comes to children's books!!! It is a humourous story but also has an important message about being kind and keeping your promises which I think is a great message to have in all children's books. It would be a fantastic book to have in all libraries, schools, nurseries, at home and anywhere where children can access the book as being kind is one of the most important messages to teach children with everything happening in the world at the moment. There were so many laugh out loud moments in this book and the illustrations were absolutely brilliant and also had us all giggling away. This book tells us the story of the Beastly Baron Of Beaux Bottom who really is beastly and rude. He gets lost one day and asks the Warty Witch for help and promises her something for the favour. However being beastly be breaks his promises and the Warty Witch teaches him a lesson!!! Along the way we meet, as well as the Warty Witch, Major Mountjoy, butler Baxter, discover the wild western woods, the Greedy goat of the glen, the Gossamer green ghost and many more. As you can see this book is filled with alliteration which not only is something the Beastly Baron hates but is another fantastic teaching lesson for children hidden within a fun story!!! I love the fact that not only is this book fun, beautifully written and fantastically illustrated but also that it is filled with important messages and morals for children and adults alike which is a huge bonus for myself as a mum when it comes to books!!! The illustrations are absolutely brilliant, eye catching and with loads of objects to point out, describe and discuss with your children. It really is a fun humour filled book that would make a fantastic gift or stocking filler for a child to read and perfect with Christmas just around the corner. It wasn't just myself that enjoyed reading it but my 10 year old son and also one of my 6 year old twin boys. It was written in a way that is easy for children and adults to read and we all took it in turns to read a page (my other twin boy is non-verbal, they both have autism). We read a hardback copy which is beautifully designed with quality thick and glossy pages.
Malaki and Hunter loved looking and naming all the different items in the background. We had lots of fun naming all the different things that the children could see in the photos and naming all the objects. It is a fantastic book and I would say it is suitable for any child and adult from 5 years and older. This book is lovely and short and can be a quick read or be made into a fun long read whichever the reader wishes. The font is a nice style and size making it easy for adults and children to see and read too which is definitely a bonus as I have struggled with some fonts that authors have used in children's books in the past. It would be a great book for children to be read to by their teachers in school as well as friends and family members. Let your children's imaginations come alive with this amazing, fun and unique book. I am looking forward to reading more books by Jeremy Hullah to my children and hope that he is busy writing and Zsuzsa illustrating the next one already!
My 10 year old son Malaki had this to say about this book:
I really loved reading this book. I think the storyline was very good and teaches children to be kind and to always keep your promises which is a very good lesson. I thought it was extremely funny especially when the Baron turned into Gossamer Green Ghost!!! That was definitely my favourite part and I laughed loads!!! I definitely think he got what he deserved then!!! It was good that he was a different person at the end to how he was at the beginning, much kinder and I think he definitely learnt his lesson!! I also liked all the alliteration which made it even more funny like the Warty Witch and the Greedy Goat but the baron hated the names which was even funnier as there were so many if them!!! It was a really fun and funny story and the pictures were really bright and colourful!!! I really enjoyed reading it to my brothers who are 6 year old and loved showing them the pictures which they liked too.
Amazon rates this book suitable for children 6-12 years old. I would rate from 5 to 13 years old to adults!!!
Congratulations Jeremy Hullah on writing an absolutely fantastic book and Zsuzsa for the absolutely brilliant illustrations. Here is to both of your next success'!! 🥂
Overall a beautifully illustrated, fun, humorous children's book with a lesson to be learnt!

With a title like The Beastly Baron of Beaux Bottom it makes this a book you simply must have and read as it is a tale of being nasty, beastly, spoilt and well, horrible and what happens when you are not nice to people. Lots of not nice things happen and the Beastly Baron was a not nice person. He was very spoilt as he was the Baron of Beaux Bottom, which meant that he was the “big’ man in the area and people had to do what he said, or else! And he nearly always or always broke his promises, which is not a very nice or smart thing to do! His mother was a nice lady and she was doing her best to make him get out a bit more, play some sport and get some exercise, but he would not; he only wanted to be nasty to people and do only what he wanted. No one in the Castle liked him at all, but because he was the Baron they had to pretend they did. On this particular day he did decided to go out and join the local Military group who were going out into the country to do some military exercises. They were not very happy about this but had to agree to take him with them. After a while the Beastly Baron was only thinking about lunch and all the good things the cook would have packed for him. He was also very fat! He decided to go and explore around the forest of Beaux Bottom to try and find the Witch who apparently lived there, but he knew nothing about, which he decided was not a good thing. So off he went and eventually got lost and that is when a goat, magic and huge big farts become a very interesting thing for the Beastly Baron. What happens next is very funny, tells a very cautionary story and ends in a lovely, fairy-tale ending, which maybe, after everything the Beastly Baron went through, he deserved. Only you can say yes or not to that, after you have finished the story. Very colourful illustrations highlight the plight of the Beastly Baron as a time old tale of nice verses nasty with farts of gigantic proportions, for the boys, as well as a grand adventure and a little romance, for the girls, all held together with magic, craft a fast moving story which for the 8-10 year age range of the readers, will certainly become a favourite.
The Beastly Baron of Beaux Bottom is a really unpleasant fellow. He does nothing but eat, attend entertainments, and then eat some more. Worst of all is that the Baron never keeps his promises to the townspeople who need his support in attending to issues. He keeps telling them he'll fix things but then gets busy with something else and never gets around to it.
One day, the Baron decides to head out with his army to watch over them practicing. During his time outdoors, he ends up going into the Wild Western Woods where he meets the Warty Witch. As anticipated, things don't go so well and the Baron ends up having a nasty spell cast upon him. Now he's forced to find ways of working with others to reverse the spell. Can the dreaded beastly Baron learn to cooperate and keep his promises in the future? You'll have to read it to find out!
We recently went on a big family holiday where we all stayed in the same vacation residence. I was reading this book at night to myself and then the kids (teens) in the bunk beds asked if I would read to them just like old times. So out of nostalgia, I flipped back to the beginning and started reading the book aloud to them. And, what a hoot. We all loved it! How could you not possibly laugh at the antics of the wild and outrageous Beastly Baron? The Greedy Goat of the Glen was by far our favourite character in the book, especially while it was eating the "spicy" vegetation. That said, all the characters are well-written, amusing, and, more importantly, memorable. They'll stick with you in your head and bring a smile to your face even days later.
Highly recommended as an easy chapter book that you can read over a few nights with the kids (no matter the age, I guess)!
The Beastly Baron of Beaux Bottom, written by Jeremy Hullah and illustrated by Zsuzsa, is a hilarious tale of one man whose day goes from bad to worse.
The Beastly Baron of Beaux Bottom is a lazy, mean man. He's ill-tempered, overweight, and spends his day doing nothing of any significance.
One day, he takes his mother's advice and joins the major for a ride in the countryside. Well, he doesn't join in with the ride, rather goes for a walk in the woods. Here, he meets the warty witch where things take a turn for the worse.
This fun cautionary tale is perfect for children aged 6-9. The host of characters the Baron meets on his travels are very entertaining. My personal favourite - the Greedy Goat.
The cute illustrations are scattered throughout the book and the bottom of each page is decorated with a beautiful garden floor. I love the text type changes within the book to highlight significant parts of the story. This all adds to the charm of the book and the storyline.
I very much enjoyed reading this book and would look forward to reading further adventures that the Baron finds himself on, especially those featuring the witch and the goat.
"The Beastly Baron of Beaux Bottom" is a charming and engaging children's book written by Jeremy Hullah and illustrated by Zsuzsa Goodyer. The story is a delightful cautionary tale about the importance of keeping promises, brought to life through vivid and lavish illustrations.
The Baron's day goes from bad to worse as he encounters a cast of colorful characters, including the Warty Witch of the Wild Western Woods and the Greedy Goat of the Glen. The plot is full of twists and turns, keeping young readers entertained and engaged from start to finish.
The illustrations by Zsuzsa Goodyer are truly stunning, bringing the world of the Beastly Baron to life with vibrant colors and detail. Each page is a feast for the eyes, adding to the enjoyment of the story.
The book also carries an important moral lesson about the consequences of breaking promises, making it an excellent choice for parents and educators looking for books with teachable moments.
The beastly baron is just that - beastly. He’s always promising the people that he will do things for them and never does. When his Mum talks him into going out with his army, it’s not long before he encounters the Warty Witch and wishes he had stayed at home.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It was entertaining from start to finish. Did I giggle like a child when farts were mentioned - of course I did!
This is a story that adults will enjoy as much as children and I think it’s a great one for reading with your child.
It does also have a deeper meaning and teaches children about respect, as well as not lying and making promises you have no intention of keeping. There are consequences to your actions.
I must also mention the illustrations in the book. They are outstanding and beautiful.
My thanks to the author and Literally PR for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
Yesterday was my stop on the online book review tour for #TheBeastlyBaronofBeauxBottom by Jeremy Hullah, and illustrated Zsuzsa Goodyer - I'm delighted to be sharing my review!
One of my favourite things about this book is the memorable cast of characters, from The Beastly Baron himself, to the Warty Witch of the Wild Western Woods - the way they are illustrated is fantastic, and they are really well written and impactful.
The plot follows the Baron's day going from bad to worse, he goes through lots of challenges. The book is really engaging, and filled with humour and charm. I read it really quickly as I was so engrossed!
I'd highly recommend this read to anyone who enjoys brilliant illustrations, character driven stories, and a chuckle. I'd pair this book with a hot chocolate, with lots of whipped cream on top! ☕ 🍫
️ 'The Beastly Baron of Beaux Bottom' by Jeremy Hullah and illustrated by Zsuzsa is a fun childrens story.
Its a tale that tells about the Beastly Baron having a bad day and meeting lots of characters along the way which look at the importance of keeping promises.
This is a fun book with a great story but there is also learning in for children.
The story is well told and the characters are fun. The illustrations are great and really add to the story.
A great story for children😀
So glad to be part and this Blog Tour and thanks to the author and publisher for allowing me to take part.
Loved this book and so did my grandchildren as I read it to them over the holidays. It is definitely a 5 star. Recommend this one and looking forward to more from this author.
Many thanks to team @literallyPR for my copy in exchange for an honest review.
A great book for young and old alike and when you think the beastly baron cant get any worse he does. Very interesting story and i cant wait to read it with my younger cousin soon Worth a read
I really enjoyed The Beastly Baron of Beaux Bottom and it felt reminiscent of what got me into reading as a child.
The Baron most certainly lived up to his title, he was absolutely beastly wasn't he? He was like a spoilt child, having tantrums, being obnoxious and horrible to other people. The Warty Witch soon put him in his place though and it was a laugh a minute all the way, especially when he turned into a big fart!
Younger children will love the story, appreciate the humour and hopefully learn from the mistakes the Beastly Baron made.
Highly enjoyable, entertaining and an absolute delight to read.
Wow I loved story of The Beastly of Baron Beaux Bottom, with author fantastic magical imagination.
I highly recommend this wonder tale to Children ages 6-12 who always love reading about a horrible character, a witch who casts magic spells, and a ghost.
A Baron lives in a castle in a town, called Beaux Bottom. This Baron is known as the beastly Baron because he was always shouting at people and being unpleasant to them.
With the Baron being over weight, his mother wants him to join the army, for the exercise.
While the beastly Baron is out with with the soldiers, he takes a walk into the Wild Western Woods, where he meets the Warty Witch, who turns him into a lovely patch of clover for not keeping his promise to her.
With the Baron turned into a clover that no one can see him, the greedy goat of the Glen appears who is very hungry looking for something to eat. I can hear children laughing as the story as it gets quiet funny.
This is one of those stories that you become so wrapped in to see if the beastly Baron will be able to make some magic of his own to bring himself back to being a human again.
A little bit of special magic can take you a long way through the perfect world of escape.
This clever story will show children to be kind to your friends and always keep your promise.
Author Jeremy Hullah is a lovely kind man, who is very willing to answer any questions about his book.
Jeremy Hullah’s book tells the tale of the Baron of Beaux Botton, who indeed is very beastly. He is rude, spoilt, and uncaring preferring his own company and ideas than those of others around him. An archetypal villain who does not think twice about reneging on promises to suit himself and his own needs. During the course of the text, as the Baron rebukes everyone and everything, including his own mother, there are some useful conversations to be had with younger readers about kindness and the necessity of truth telling. The ‘beastly’ Baron seems to be a character that is insecure and frequent comments about his weight being aligned with his malignity felt a little problematic. However, this is a book that operates more in a fairytale world. The young children Hal and Greta who are tricked by the Baron, the ‘Warty Witch’ who I empathised with in her exhaustion of having to deal with the Baron to the ambiguous character of Lumina at the end of the novel, each served a function in the ‘redemption’ narrative at the end of the story. The illustrations served to support the narrative and there were moments that young readers would find hilarious, particularly the toilet humour! This balances out the more serious message of the book and makes it suitable for primary school children. An ideal Christmas present that would work as a springboard to delve into the world of fairytale and myth, illustrating the idea that not everything is as it seems and everyone has the propensity for change. Thank you to @LiterallyPR for my ARC.
The Beastly Baron of Beaux Bottom by Jeremy Hullah and illustrated by Zsuzsa Goodyer was a sweet and hilarious tale of one man whose day goes from bad to worse.
But, Beastly Baron was not a nice man, he is lazy and very mean. He's very ill-tempered, overweight. He spends most of his day shouting at people and he never keeps his promises. So, when he breaks his word to the Warty Witch of the Wild Western Woods things go very badly for him, and then they get much, much worse for him!
This is only to teach him a lesson, but will he learn from it?
The Beastly Baron of Beaux Bottom shares an important message throughout this book for children and the consequences of breaking promises to others. This would make a great book for parents to read to their children and explain the importance to keep promises to others and especially for teachers to read books out aloud in their class or assemblies and use this book as a teaching tool.
I loved the illustrations by Zsuzsa Goodyer are truly stunning and very colourful this is great for a young child.
"I gave this book to my six year old nephew who is a book worm and is reading one of the most famous books out there which has four hundred pages, found this book very hard to read and understand, it was the way it was written which made him feel he failed in reading it for me. So it was great that his mum read it for him and she explained the wording to him."
Firstly thank you to Literally PR, Digit Publications and Jeremy Hullah for having me on this tour and sending me a copy of the book. This has been another book I've had the pleasure of sharing with my small human, and it sure made bedtime reading fun! My small one absolutely loved it! They were asking questions throughout as we got to bits that made the illustrations on the front make sense "Oh mummy look he's a big fart" (followed by lots of giggling) and they adored the illustrations on the inside too but mostly they looked forward to hearing what happened next to the Baron (we broke the book into bedtime reading for a few nights) and once we got to the end all they wanted to know was if we had the next one and if we didn't could mummy now go order it! I loved reading this, it was such a fun story that kept my little one interested night after night and it's beautifully illustrated. I have a hardback copy and it's just so lovely and the best bit is the font inside is big enough that when my small one starts to read by themselves this is perfect for them to read to themselves because they can easily point at the words as they go. Much like my little one, I am hoping we have more tales about the Baron because I think this is a lovely addition to a children's bookshelf and it becoming a firm favourite reread is something I can see happening as my small one grows.
This is a book that reminds me of so many fairy tales but with an additional ingredient - fun. Each page made me chuckle, from the grouchy baron to the gluttonous goat. The Baron, unlike his predecessors, is an unpleasant fellow, known to spend his time shouting at people and being generally unpleasant. He seems to love food and little else. However, he gets his comeuppance tenfold in this fabulously funny book. I love the characters. There's dashing Major Mountjoy. The Warty Witch of the Western Wood. The Greedy Goat of the Glen. And The Gossamer Green Ghost. Jeremy has a fantastic imagination. He takes the reader into a world of fairy tales, with the classic witch, a dashing soldier, a magical wood and ... a few new additions that create a story full of fun, adventure and also a few lessons such as, don't break a promise - or else!
The illustrations are beautiful. There are pretty black-and-white illustrations of wildflowers and toadstools running along the footer throughout the book and also stunning full-page coloured artwork all created by Zsuzsa.
Thank you so much Jeremy Hullah and Literally PR for gifting us a hardback copy of 'The beastly baron of beaux bottom in exchange for an honest review.
This was a really interesting story that had my daughter laughing out loud, the part of the story that contains the greedy goat and a green fart had her belly laughing and conversations about what would you do if you was a fast cloud. Overall this book shows that there are consequences to not keeping your promises and that treating people poorly will always come back to haunt you.
A hilarious and ingenious story of a Beastly Baron who needs to learn his manners. With stunning illustrations and wonderfully evocative language this story works beautifully for young independent readers, middle grade children who enjoy a hearty story or as a fable to pore over with a child on your lap.
