During the colder months of the Canadian winter, when all signs of life hibernate, a close friend of mine introduced me to the word " Sonder ", a word defined through The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows as an experience that someone has that you are aware of, but are not a part of; an extension of empathy - but the winter months kept the world frigid and quiet. Now, as the warm summer months’ coax forth celebrations and vacations, the fireworks that streak through the hot summer sky like beacons of glory explode onto the black canvas of the night sky with a grand expression of humanity, community, and emotion. In a sense, sonder. Much like the fireworks, boundless and diverse, Blue Crystal' s fifth anthology collection, " Phoenix" , is a collection of the human connection, woven together from aspiring poets from all over the world onto an illuminating canvas of creativity and empathy. The " Phoenix " collection is an accumulation of the spirits of nature, the bird's flying path, the tumultuous, and the gloryful; a moment for everything. Take this tender collection with you as you gaze over the cooling evening sun, as you run your toes through the coarse beach sand, or share them aloud around the campfire - maybe even put some music to it with your old acoustic guitar. We at Blue Crystal want to thank everyone sincerely for their tremendous writing and for the constant and growing support. Poetry can bring people together, and help people to understand each other, even when they are miles and miles away.
