Braided hairstyles have become very popular in recent years but they can be intimidating to recreate yourself. "DIY Braids" uses photographs and step-by-step instructions to help you create beautiful braided hairstyles that can be very simple or complex. I appreciated that the models used in the book had different hair types. One had straight hair and the other had curly hair. There is also a style that is reminiscent of the braid worn by Katniss Everdeen in "The Hunger Games" films. All in all this book will make creating beautiful braided hairstyles for any occasion quick and easy.
I love, love, love this book. I love braids to begin with, and this book takes some basic braiding techniques (included in the beginning of the book, of course) and creates all kinds of really cool hairstyles with them. There are plenty of excellent photographs to go along with the step-by-step instructions, so the instructions are very clear and easy to follow. I am seriously impressed by this book!
Wow, several braiding techniques I've never seen before, and many very awesome hairstyles I'm dying to try. The step-by-step photos and instructions are clear and detailed. Each hairdo is rated from easy to intermediate to hard. And they build off each other, so someone new to braiding can start with the easy styles at the beginning of the book and build up their skills to eventually be able to accomplish the hard styles at the end of the book.
This book has taught be how to do so many pretty styles! I wish I had it out longer because I haven't figured out the French Braid yet, but my favorites are the Snake Braid (The name sucks, but the braid is beautiful!), the Rope Braid, and the Fishtail Braid! I love doing them! This book was fantastic! I didn't do them all, but I did attempt quite a few of them. They aren't all easy, but she teaches them really well.
About a month ago I was a bridesmaid in my friend's wedding. Since we were travelling to another state for the wedding, I wanted a simple hairstyle my mom and I could do ourselves and not have to find a salon on a Sunday morning, and that would keep my hair up off my neck since we'd be outdoors part of the time. I looked on pinterest and chose a style with 3 braids spiraled and pinned into buns. We had a few practice rounds and it wasn't going well. Shortly before we were leaving for the wedding, I think maybe that same week, I came across this book checking stuff in at work, and lo and behold, the very last hairstyle in this book was the one I'd picked off pinterest! (They call it Triple Twist Braided Buns.) So I checked the book out.
By that time mom had already given up and booked me an appointment, but I took this book with me and the hairstylist was thrilled! She thought it was cute, she hadn't done it before, and with the instructions she didn't have to puzzle it out! We ended up with two larger, looser twists, but that looked a lot fancier so I guess it was good for the wedding.
I just now took the time to flip through all the hairstyles. I can barely do a regular braid on myself so I haven't tried any of these, but they make them all look easy! And there's a ton of styles. I'd like to check this out again sometime when I had a chance to play around with things, or maybe a model to practice on!
Amazing braids and other hairstyles. Loved the pictures and guides for the hairstyles giving you step by step instructions to follow. I've read many books for hairstyles claiming step by step and they never have all the instructions. If you want a good book for braids etc. This is the one you want!!
fabulous book for beginners and those trying to master harder braids. Great hairstyles!
The pictures and directions are so easy to follow! I can do many braids. However, I still found great styles and some braids I have never done! I would recommend this for anyone trying to braid their own hair or new to braiding and for those seeking new braids or ideas for new hairstyles!
I've gotten all the braiding books from my library system. This is the best beginning braid book I've found to date. I'm ordering copies for my young niece and myself. Great step by step for each braid.
I was looking for a book that taught French braiding. This book was that and more. The book starts with an introduction to basics and then shows how to expand on that knowledge.
WOW thank you for all the effort that it must’ve taken to create this book. Great step-by-step photos on how to make the braid, especially showing how to hold your hands behind your head! A book worth owning.
I really like this book and I went from wearing my hair in ponytails and classic braids to french braids (which I'd only done twice before). Some of the hair styles were a bit difficult for me.
This instructional book teaches people with long hair how to braid. The cover is eye-catching with bold, bright type on white, with a photo of a braid. The introduction is simple and the instructions are clear and easy-to-read. Teens have the option to pick and choose which braids they’d like to try, and the braids are ranked in terms of easy, intermediate and hard. With clear, large photos on colorful paper, I think teen girls will pick up this book and try some different styles. My one complaint is the models - I wish they had been multicultural and of both genders.
